Does Works 8 fix....

Posted: 14 Jul 2004 01:23 PM PDT

Hi Neil,

Seems that both these function correctly in Works 8.

Perhaps ensure that video and printer drivers are functioning correctly?

I notice that double-sided printing did not happen for me in Works 7,
though I only had chance to try it quickly, last night. I shall try a little
more today and let you know the outcome (in Works 7).

The resizing was not a problem in either Works 7 or Works 8.

Do you have the detials of the crash ?

Works Load Time

I am using Works 2002 but I also have Word 2003 loaded.

I have to use Works 2002 because the people in the office don't want to convert all of their Works files to Word, so that is my delema. Otherwise I would happily convert everything to Word.

Hi BearSki,

If I understand you correctly :

You have Works 6 discs.

You have the Win Xp Pro operating system (reinstalled).

You cannot find a file (DVD LIST) that contains a listing of
your DVD collection, containing 417 entries ?

You have reinstalled Works 6.0.

If this is the case then perhaps this helps,

Place you CD/RW disc into the drive.

Open Windows explorer.

Start>Search>For Files or Folders

Set the Lookin to 'My Computer'

Enter the search item DVDLIST

If you are successful in finding this file then you may copy it to
your hard drive ( advisable) and/or double-click it to have
Works run and load it ready for use.

Lost documents on Word 2003

Posted: 29 Dec 2012 04:27 AM PST

When I open Word (2003) some of my documents are missing from the box. I can retrieve them using My Recent Documents but when I then resave them my folders are missing from the box. This has been going on for about a week.

Can't modify or delete word document.

Posted: 28 Dec 2012 04:28 PM PST

I'm having problems with a microsoft word document.  When I try to save the document in Word 2007, the program tells me it's a read-only file, but file properties indicate that it is not.  When I try to delete the file in Windows 7 Explorer, the program tells me it is being used by Microsoft Word, when in fact it is not.  Task manager indicates that word is not running.  Malware bytes file unlocker was unable to delete the file.  I noticed that the properties indicate that the file was "created" in 2012, but "last modified" in 2008.   Also, when I have saved the problem file as a new "non-read-only" file, the problem shows up in the new file.  I know have a dozen large files with the same problem.  Any ideas on how to delete the file?

Does anyone know if there is a replica Autotext Dialog Box for Word 2010?

I really miss the ease of use of the old version (i.e., it being automatically in alphabetical order, and being able to add a new version right in the dialog box by selecting the name from the drop-down list).

It would be wonderful if someone could write a macro to duplicate this functionality.

Below is a link to the dialog box in question.

Installin Office 2003

Posted: 19 May 2004 05:39 PM PDT

YOu can install Office on both partitions but to have Outlook use the same
..pst file, move your current .pst file to the drive/location of your choice.
Open Outlook on each partition - then close it and delete the new .pst file
it creates. Open Outlook again and when it complains, point it to the .pst
file you saved. Open the other partition and and do the same for finding
the .pst file.

There, they now share the same .pst file.

Office 2003 Administrative Install

Posted: 17 May 2004 08:57 PM PDT

No the latest setup won't help you here...

Even though as you step through the CIW it would appear that it allows this, it doesn't. Microsoft has stated that to create a Local Installation Source requires that the installation source be in compressed form (i.e. from the CD), not uncompressed form of admin install point.

Like you I wanted the best of both worlds so to speak. I settled on copying the CD to disk and running CIW against the MSI there to create my custom transform. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/two/ch3/DepC06.htm

I'm using the latest setup.exe from:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/journ/NewSetupEXE.htm

and using the new ENFORCECACHE in the setup.ini file. In addition to setting:
CDCACHE=2
DELETEABLECACHE=0

this "Sets the local installation source to NoCleanUp in the Windows registry, so that even when users run the Disk Cleanup Wizard, the local installation source is not removed. "

This all works fine for the install, but the problem I am having with this setup is that if I try to chain updates to office in the setup.ini file I get prompted for the installation media!!! At this point nothing satisfies that request and I have to abort the patch install. Even if I try to apply the "full" patch (which isn't supposed to require the install files) not the "binary" patch I get prompted for the media. I have way over the 2.5GB required to get the complete source cached local. I have verified it is there with the files present (although after the first failed patch a few files like sku011.cab are removed and later prompted for when you try to run that same patch again or another one) and that the permissions are correct for access to it. Also since I have CDCACHE=2 in the setup.ini (which I verified from looking at the setup logs is getting parsed correctly), the install should abort if it can not cache the source.

Anyway sorry for stating my current problems in your thread, just wanted you to see some of the issues that might be in your future! :-) I will start another thread for this "chained updates" issue, but if anyone has successfully chained updates please let me know. I am following this:

Why is it that when I select a block of text and press Del nearby pictures also disappear.  this doesn't happen when I place the insertion point at the start of the text and continually press Del.

Word 2010 problem with resaving

Posted: 22 Dec 2012 11:56 AM PST

This is my first help question ever.  When I pull up a Word document, change it and then try to resave with a new name, the program closes down but tells me first they will notify me with a solution.  No solution has come to me.  I am now having problems with my Excel program.  I can not open and then resave it.  I have Office Home and Business 2010.

Thank you.

microsoft office starter vanished from my programs

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:29 PM PST

My computer came preloaded with microsoft office 2010. I  have a toshiba with windows 7. I had the computer 1 year. I finally wen't to use microsoft office a window came up. I clicked on microsoft office starter, it said it was already preinstalled on my computer. I granted changes to microsoft to finish installtion of 2010?  although it was already on my computer. Eventually office 2010 starter opened. I used it for a document and closed it. Later I tried to use it again. When I clicked on office 2010 it states microsoft officer starter 2010 is already installed on my computer. It says to click on all programs at the start menu and it should be there, but it isn't. Microsoft excel starter is though. What happened to the microsoft office starter that was pre-installed on my computer. I'm so tired of buying expensive computers that come preloaded with microsoft this or that but the programs always stop working  or you have to purchase them again through microsoft.
Thanks

Original Title: "Difficulty creating a new blank document"

Every time I try to create a new document, I keep getting an older document instead of a new blank document.  The same document opens every time that I open MS Word as well.  I've tried saving this doc, but it keeps calling it Document 1 - MS word non-commercial use.  What do I do?  I have MS Word 2010 and Windows 7.  Thanks.

How do I make shapes in Word stay in its place within the image if I move or resize the image?

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 10:12 AM PST

When adding shapes in a Word doc, how do I get the shape layout to move with the image if I resize the picture or move it?

For example, I take a screenshot of a paragraph from a website. I then highlight a sentence using a circle, but then resize the screenshot but the circle does not keep its place. Which option or how do I get it to stay in its place?

Outlook contacts in label print not displayed

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:40 AM PST

Hello,

I have issue with mass printing of addresses on labels in MS Word 2010 on Windows 7 - I need to import addresses from Outlook contacts and let print on labels.
Everything works fine according the instruction from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2003-word/why-doesnt-label-print-what-i-see/a479c3c2-331e-4d8f-a830-4aa757e8d94f .
Just when the importing of contacts finishes, the page in MS Word is blank.

Can somebody advise about this?

Thank you

Fixing Paragraphs Indents How To?

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:30 AM PST

I have documents where the paragraphs are indented. I want to flush it all to the right. However, when I do this it does not work with select all, paragraph align left . I am using the backspace or delete space button to get the sentence to move over to the left. It's time consuming. Is their a way to do this all at once for the entire document?
Here is an example of what I want to fix.

In issuing the injunction, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan ordered Chevron to post a $21.8 million bond.
Though he noted that the Lago Agrio plaintiffs, or LAPs, would have preferred a bond with at least four more digits, Kaplan said bonds are not meant to secure judgment collection.
"It is simply to protect the LAP representatives against any injury they may suffer if they are enjoined for a period from seeking to enforce that judgment and the injunction ultimately proves to have been inappropriate - in other words, to ensure payment of any damages caused by the delay in enforcement," he wrote.
The 2nd Circuit struck this injunction down in September 2011 and called it "radical" in a January 2012 opinion.
About a month later, Patton Boggs filed a federal complaint against Chevron in New Jersey, saying that Kaplan's orders "incapacitated" it from trying to enforce the judgment for their clients in Ecuador, whom the firm names in court papers as "los Afectados," Spanish for the Affected Ones.

Word is unstable since the November update

No additional assistance with this issue is necessary.

I want to create a table with a header that repeats at page breaks, but I want the header to be slightly different on the continuation pages.

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 07:43 AM PST

For example, the header may say "Table 5", but I want the header in the continuation pages to say "Table 5 (continued)".   I want to be able to do this without breaking the table up into smaller tables.   I am using Microsoft Word 2007, by the way.

Dual booting - 32 & 64 bit versions

Ok ... Thanks for that Pulse... I have a question ... it appears from the
last of those links that I can't have both versions activated with the same
CD key.

If I activated 64 bit and later had difficulties would I be able to uninstal
the 64 bit version and activate the 32 bit version with the same CD key ?

Regards & TIA

What app are you using?

Here's the info on the api from MSDN.

Remarks
This sample illustrates how to save the size, location, and state of a
Window so the Window opens in the same position it was closed. Furthermore,
this sample is multi-monitor aware, which means that if the monitor on which
the Window was closed is disconnected, the Window is shown on a connected
monitor instead.

This requires using the following Win32 APIs (from User32.dll):

WINDOWPLACEMENT: To store window size, location, and state (see
WINDOWPLACEMENT Structure).

GetWindowPlacement: To retrieve the current WINDOWPLACEMENT data for the
window before it closes (see GetWindowPlacement Function).

SetWindowPlacement: To restore the WINDOWPLACEMENT data when the window
opens (see SetWindowPlacement Function).

The WINDOWPLACEMENT structure is physically stored on disk using the
Microsoft .NET Framework support for strongly-typed application settings
(see Application Settings Overview).

Yes, most people are honest enough, but you only hear about the small

Lucky for you that you admitted you know nothing about this subject

Sounds like he just needed an excuse to ask for your old laptop.

There you go again with your claims that "most people" are dishonest.

I suggest boxing up your computer and calling Microsoft. Have them come
over and pick up your computers. Then apologize for being such a dick and
promise that you will never ever say anything else bad about Microsoft.

Then smoke a BOWL

Well, one of the reasons. But this doesn't answer my questions - was it
removed intentionally, and is there a way to get it back?

The answer to the second question is to shift-right-click the icon on the
taskbar. This brings up the "classic context menu". Yet another thing that
Microsoft changed that didn't need changing.
