smart graphics with protection

Dear Colleagues,

I created a form and included the Smart Art with a Nondirectional cycle. In order have the users open the document to complete the form fields, it was saved as a protected template. But the user can not enter data in the Smart Art. Is it possible that data cannot be entered in Smart Art when the file it protected?

Please advise. Thanks.

Setting the cursor position on Open

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 03:47 PM PDT

I am seeing several documents that consistently open to seemingly random locations in the file rather than the Home position.  One of the files had some bookmarks.  We created a new version of the file and removed them, and the behavior resolved.  The other does not contain bookmarks or cross references,  but cursor returns to mid document nonetheless.

I don't see any kind of autoexec macro, (can they be hidden?) that goes to last edit point and would be surprised if any of the authors or editors of the document knew of such magical things.

Suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

Heading in MS Word 2010 makes the text jump page

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 10:39 AM PDT

I'm using the heading feature in MS Word 2010 and most of my headings work perfectly. However, one heading in particular (Heading 4) makes the text of the entire paragraph jump to the next page. There is plenty of room for the text on the existing page, so I'm confused. I've right-clicked on the paragraph, selected "Paragraph", went to the "Line and Page Breaks" tab, and made sure that "Page break before" and "Keep with next" are both unchecked. Please help!

Permanent "Can't Undo/Redo"

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 08:53 AM PDT

My Undo and Redo buttons in the trial version of Word 2013 I have installed are constantly grayed out and unselectable and the keyboard commands do not work. When I begin to type the Undo button becomes selectable, but if I mouse over to the buttons or wait longer than a few seconds (or as soon as I hit ctrl+z) Undo and Redo go grey  and nothing happens to my document.

This is making Word unusable for me. Please help!

Apparent downgrade of Office Applications

Help! Where's 'ignore all' and 'Add to dictionary'?

Posted: 10 Jul 2013 04:43 PM PDT

Hi,

I just started using Word 2013 and, for check spell, there are no options to "ignore all" or "Add to Dictionary".  What's going on? I only see "ignore".

Thanks,

Styleref field is ignoring tables - how do I make it search them too?

Posted: 08 Jul 2013 05:55 AM PDT

I have a rather large document that consists mainly of a huge table containing various levels of legal text. I want to have the main article number listed in the header of each page. I've added a particular style for this and started formatting the appropriate table text with it.

I've added a StyleRef field to the header, which works for anything outside the table, but returns an error when only text inside the table is matching ("Error! No text with this style found" or something to that effect). The logical conclusion is that StyleRef fields are ignoring content of tables, and I need to reverse that somehow.

Any ideas? I should probably say I'm fairly new to Word 2010, so any arcane instructions would need to be a little spelled out probably ;)

How to change second-level form of bullets

Posted: 07 Jul 2013 08:58 AM PDT

I have a list that has bullets (circles that are entirely black). Under one of these points, I want to put a second-level bullet (I thought a circle that was white inside would appear). Instead, the bullet for that item is full black, just like the first-level items. Now I saw in Word how to change the form of bullets, but when I changed the form of that second-level item, all the other bullets changed as well. I was sure that Word would automatically provide a different form for these second-level items, just like on a numbered list, they go from Hindu-Arabic to Roman numerals, to letters.

How can I get Word to do this?

How you set the user level depends on your version of Windows. That article is
specifically for NT4 and Windows 2000. If you have multiple logons for the PC, you need
someone logon as the administrator to change your security level.

also see if this helps...
Activate by Using the Telephone
If you do not have Internet connectivity or you choose not
to activate Office by using the Internet, you can select the
Activate by using the telephone option. To activate your
product this way, start any of the Office programs, and then
follow these steps: 1. In the Office Activation Wizard,
select the Activate by using the telephone option, and then
click Next.
2. Read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy page, and
then click Next.
3. In the Select your location list, choose a
country/region. Call the telephone number that is listed in
step 2 in the wizard. The customer service agent asks you
for the installation ID and gives you a confirmation ID in
return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes that are
provided.

NOTE: Make a note of the confirmation ID provided by
the customer service agent. You may be able to reuse the
confirmation ID on the same computer if you have to reformat
your hard disk and reinstall Office in the future. If the
confirmation ID does not work at that time, call the
customer service agent again, and request a new confirmation
ID.
4. Click Next. The Activation Complete page appears,
including the date on which your license expires.
5. On the Activation Complete page, click Finish.

Thanks for responding.

I have updated the printer driver in the past (HP). I had not considered
that possiblity however. The video driver from my computer manufacturer is
version prior to the one I downloaded from MS update, but still a ProSavage
driver. I am going to paste a more thorough description of my system for you
and others now:

"When I go into MS Works version 6.0,then tools and try to change the font
in envelopes, the dropdown freezes. Other selections can also do the same and
the program crashes. Sometimes Tool Manager can shut down Works, sometimes
only pulling the plug will turn off the computer. In December 2004 I had no
problem, but I have no restore point that far back.

Installed MS Service pak 2. All Critical Updates up to date.

75% free drive space. 512 RAM. Windows XP home edition factory installed.

Sometimes a virtual memory ballon appeared indicating more virtual memory
is needed, but not while using Works. I have since allocated more space for
that, but it did not help.

No other functional problems.

I use ZAFirewall,AVG antivirus,ewido security
suite,bazooka,WinPatrol,SpyBlaster,Ie-spyad,CWShredder,Ad-Aware SE by
LavaSoft, Stinger,SysClean,SpyBot Search&Destroy. No malware detected in
scans.

Is my video driver suspect? or what? Hardware acceleration is set at
minimum. Defraggmented weekly in SafeMode. When crash occurs CPU use is
100%. Temp files and recycle bin emptied daily. No disk errors or fixes by
Chkdsk found.

Works & XP problem

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 07:07 PM PST

Hi John,

I have only used Works 6.0.

Is Works 4 better then newer versions? Reading previous post in this news
group the answer seems to be yes, they say all versions of Works above
version 4.5 are a down grade.

At the download site...
http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/downloads.mspx#EnglishY2K

There is a Year 2000 Update, it's a 2.89 MB download, seem to recall it
fixes a lot of problems other then year 2000. Think it updates the program
to version 4.5a. Perhaps it might help with your existing problems.

Works 6.0 includes it's Works Word Processor

I have Works Suite 2001, it includes Works 6.0 with it's Works Word
Processor and Microsoft Word Processor.

I downloaded the 'Mail Merg Patch' from that site but still have the
problem. Can you please tell me why I can find no reference to WORD
PROCESSOR in Works 6? Works 4 has database, spreadsheet and word processor -
when I try to open my Works 4 WP document (an invoice I made to print from
database) it only asks me which program and the only one that will open it
is 'WORD' and then it does not have any of the original connections to the
database.

I have both versions 4 and 6 installed and if you say the 4 is as good as 6
I will uninstall the 6 and try to find help on my problems with 4
disappearing whenever it feels like it.

Works-2004 - Install Streets & Trips data?

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 01:37 AM PST

Hello Ken:

Thanks for the help it worked when I used the Custom Install but with a
glitch. When the program started installing the data it stopped mid way with
an Error Message stating that it could not find a file with a choice to
retry, ignore or close. I hit retry several times and then realized that the
file must be on the data CD or Work's disk 5. In put in disk 5 hit retry and
it installed all the data. Everything works just fine. Microsoft should
have done a better job; instead of there being an error message it should
state "Please insert disk 5 and press the continue button [instead of retry]
This would be consistant with the rest of the Works program.
Thanks again for your help

Hi Matthew,

If you have an Office11 folder that would indicate that
you had/have installed MS Office System 2003 (v11) over
or with Office XP(2003). What MS Office programs are
listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel?

If your program was installed from a CD or a network server
and you need to repair or reinstall you'll need access to
that installation media.

Couple of suggestions, have you tried cleaning the disk? You can get
disk cleaners but a careful wash with mild dish soap and warm water
followed by placing the disk on paper towels will remove dirt and
smudges and often the disk will read OK. Next, do you have a CD or a
DVD burner as well as a CDROM? If so, try reading the disk on the
burner, they seem to read damaged disks better than a CD ROM.
IMPORTANT! If it will read on the burner, copy it to your harddisk and
burn a copy so you'll have it next time.

Last, call MSFT. They have a program to replace damaged disks, they'll
need proof of purchase and a couple of bucks for shipping, I'm not sure
what software is covered but it won't hurt to try. If your copy is OEM
call the manufacturer.

office xp width 98, then xp pro?

Thanks David for you prompt reply. It is a full version, not an upgrade, and
I bought it from the college bookstore, at a special educational price; big
discount, no documentation, just 3 sealed CDs.

From reading some other threads here, I see it is permitted to put office on
one desktop computer, and also on a laptop, so long as it is mine also, and
to be used when I am away from the desktop one. So that is two activations
allowed.

If I install it on this older desktop and a laptop, and eventually buy a
replacement desktop, that would require three activations. Will MS give the
three activations in such a situatiion?

You did not say how you installed WinXp if you did an upgrade then you
should have done a check to see what hardware and software should have been
removed before an upgrade
What you probably should have done was remove the printer drivers before an
upgrade then did the upgrade
A 5150 should have XP drivers they should be on the disk that came with the
printer
Check with HP for a uninstalled which may remove all the software
If there isn't one then uninstall XP going back to your original OS
then remove the drivers and upgrade again

How to get rid of CE and CY fonts?

Posted: 01 Feb 2008 06:26 PM PST

The problem is that these fonts don't appear in Font Book. Nor can I find any font files anywhere with names like "Geneva CE" and "Monaco CY."

For example, the regular Geneva font is installed by Mac OSX inside VolumeName/System/Library/Fonts. When Office 2008 is installed, the various Central European and Cyrillic fonts, including Geneva CE, magically begin to appear ONLY within the Office apps font menus. They are not available to other apps on the same computer.

Finally, the CE and CY fonts are not installed by Office with all the other specific Office fonts in
VolumeName/Library/Fonts/Microsoft (my Font Book preference is not to install any fonts in my user Library folder).

Question about what "Home" means in the Home and Student Edition

Posted: 01 Feb 2008 04:01 PM PST

Hello Diane

Thank you very much for your quick reply. That is really good news.

No, we would not be using the software in a business setting, just using at home for both work and home things; mostly home.

I guess that you my wife's situation is slightly different from mine. She has a kind of "home office" (meaning she works from home sometimes, but mostly away from home) although again, I would think the majority of her email / word usage is home.

I guess that this is still within the confines of the "Home and Student" licence?

Will people be able to open my files: 2008?

Posted: 31 Jan 2008 04:54 PM PST

Yes.

But it will be due to errors in the computer at their end, not yours :-)

The trick is DON'T TELL THEM IT CAME FROM A MAC!!

If you tell them, they will do "something different" and get problems. If
you don't tell them, it will just work :-)

Make sure you add the extension to the file name: that is a "last resort"
for the operating system at the other end, that usually enables the computer
at the other end to figure out what to do, no matter how badly configured it
is.

And don't send .docx files to people for about a year, unless they send them
to you. Many people have not applied the updates needed to handle .docx
files yet. Until they do, send the old format unless you know they can
handle them.

Cheers
