Items included in Navigation - Headings that shouldn't be

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 03:02 PM PDT

We are just upgrading to 2013 and I'm starting to appreciate the Navigation bar but with one exception. The list of Headings in the Navigation pane includes Heading 1, Heading 2, ... which I want, but it also includes a bunch of other items. For example some, but not all, of the captions. Also, again, some but not all, one line paragraphs. As far as I can tell the "Caption" style is applied to the captions and "Normal" is applied to all of the paragraph text. These are hundreds of page long technical reports with dozens of figures and tables, so cleaning up the navigation to just include the section heading would make it much easier to navigate. So the bottom line is is there a way to distinguish what is included in the Navigation pane?

(Note, these reports were written in an earlier version of Word)

Thanks,

Dan

White Type Defined in Style Shows Gray

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 12:52 PM PDT

Using Word 2010 (Windows 7), I have defined a style using White as the type color, but it appears as gray. After applying the style to the appropriate text, I have to the highlight the type, apply color white from the Home tab/Font and then when I open the file again, the type has changed back to gray. How can I define this style so that the type always shows as white (even in the Styles window where it also appears as gray)?

Creating monthly reports in Word using data from Excel

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 11:15 AM PDT

I would like to create a report from a personal excel database I am keeping.  For example in excel I would have something like the following:

Job Name       Job description      Job Number      Job Status

Clean              The bathroom        5                        Active

Mow               The Lawn                7                        Pending

Wash              Clothes                   10                      Closed

Then in Word I would like to make it dynamic so that if, for example the job status changes to Active then my report comes out in the following format:

For your information, my current jobs are as follows;

<job name, active> <job description, active> which is job number <job number, active>

The jobs I have pending are as follows:

<job name, pending> <job description, pending> which is job number <job number, pending>

and I have closed the following jobs:

<job name, closed> <job description, closed> which is job number <job number, closed>

The basic idea is that I can go through and update my spreadsheet as needed and when I need to have a report completed then it will be automatic.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Microsoft Text Protect with Insert Key

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 10:02 AM PDT

I have a business book that say, "In Microsoft Word, prevents users from typing over existing text after accidentally hitting the Insert Key.  You can launch the Insert Toggle Key program, and the PC will beep whenever a user presses the Insert Key."

Does anyone know anything about the Insert Toggle Key program?  Can someone describe how it works? Is it the book wrong and the Insert Toggle Key program never exist?

captions/ XReferences lost in Word: ERROR: reference source not found

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 09:58 AM PDT

Hi

I created two years ago a book in MS Word Office 2010 (I think)

Now I reopen the same document under my Office 365 Licence

All the captions, figures, tables ... are there

However all references in the text to those captions are gone:

"ERROR: reference source not found. "

Is there a way I can regenerate those links dynamically, from the captions. (Instead of re-creating them manually)

Thank you

Custom Office Templates folder has reappeared

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 08:24 AM PDT

This is so weird.  Last week I posted a question and got a quick response on how to move the Custom Office Templates folder from Documents, and it worked for three days, now has reappeared (see attached).  How can I fix this once and for all?

Why is MS Word 2013 acting up?

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 04:19 PM PDT

My copy of MS Word is part of the MS Office Professional Plus 2013 package. Lately it's been acting strangely.

Whenever I open the program, or a document within the program (even when starting a new document), the cursor starts rapidly flashing, from the arrow to the circular...process indicator?...and back. It does this incessantly, as if something is going on in the background.

I don't recall this ever happening before recently, and it may or may not have coincided with my installation of Dragon Naturally Speaking. However, the cursor acts up even when Dragon isn't running.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Posted: 12 Mar 2009 12:26 AM PDT

Picture Manager is still available as a Shared Tool in Office 2007. To
remove it, do the following:

1. In Add/Remove Programs (WinXP), open the Microsoft Office 2007 listing
2. Select Add or Remove Features
3. Expand the Office Tools list and scroll to MS Office Picture Manager
4. Click the small arrow to expand the Feature State and select Not Available
5. Click Continue at the bottom to update the installed state

So, I presume you have never made a grammatical faux pas, ever, not once in

After Installing Office 2003 without Outlook Getting Updates for Outlook

Posted: 09 Mar 2009 09:48 PM PDT

OK, thanks for clarification...didn't see that original post in the other
thread. I was hoping that didn't mean that four different versions of Office
would be running on the same machine - not recommended at all, mainly because
of the known shared file registration problems.
