MS Word - How do I highlight trailing spaces Posted: 12 Jun 2014 04:18 PM PDT Recently, I've had to start using Word and there's something I need to do, but can't figure out how. I need to highlight a phrase and any trailing space(s). The problem is, Word will not highlight the trailing spaces(s). I had someone suggest putting a character at the end of the spaces and then changing the font color of that character to white, but for technical reasons, I can't use that suggestion. Anyone know how to do this?

Can't Access Onedrive Documents from Word 13 - Security Error Posted: 12 Jun 2014 02:52 PM PDT I am trying to load a document from OneDrive in MS Word 13. The document is owned by a different MS account to the one I use to log into Windows 8 with. When I try to open the document I get a popup box that asks for my credentials. I enter my OneDrive logins, and the box reapears asking the same question.

Create a Table of Contents with paginations on both header and footer Posted: 12 Jun 2014 02:13 PM PDT I have a dissertation paper (60+ pages) with Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 styles for Chapters, sub chapters, etc. I have paginated the document in the following form: Header has title of dissertation paper and to the right side page number which begins at number 2 on Chapter 1 (but actual page is 6 since I have abstract and other material prior to that and of course the blank page I have left for the TOC) Footer has page number (roman) on left side. I need my TOC to read the headings and also the roman numbers up to and not including Chapter 1 page (which is where header pages begin) and then continue to read the headings but labeling by using the headers page. Also, because I have a lot of subheadings that may or may not be on the same page as Heading one, the TOC is giving me the following table and I do not want this: Heading 1---------------------- 1 Heading 2 -------------------1 Heading 3------------------1 What could I do for my TOC to look like the following, including abstract (roman numbers that will be found on footer): Abstract----------------------v Heading 1--------------------1 Heading 2 Heading 3 Heading 1a-------------------5 Heading 2a Heading 3a All the headings are set, the table of contents is not giving me what I need and I'm not sure if there's any way out of manually deleting the extra stuff and changing stuff around. Thank you
Can't type in blank document with Word 2013 Posted: 12 Jun 2014 01:35 PM PDT In Word 2013, when I open a blank document, it won't let me type in it! I start banging on my keyboard and randomly click around and eventually I can type. The last time I decided to save the blank document, then I was able to type. I've never had this issue in 2010 or 2003. What is the problem?

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 09:34 AM PDT I am running an up-to-date version of Windows 7 pro. Same comment on MS Office. I have a script that cleans up my desktop. Its run fine for a long time. Now it doesn't. The only noted change, other than the automated updates, is that I recently installed the latest MS Office. As snip of the script is: c: It does not find the *.xls* or *.doc* files on the desktop. A Dir of the desktop directory C:\Users\Mike\Desktop>dir *.doc* Yet they show on the desktop. And a snip of the Properties on the desktop shows I have the path correct. Is a puzzlement. They show on the desktop, the "Properties" say they are, but a command line doesn't show them. Any suggestions?
Why my MS Word97 documents open in Word 2010? Posted: 12 Jun 2014 08:53 AM PDT I have MS Word97 and Word 2010 installed on my computer running Win7 Pro (32 bit). They coexisted peacefully until the last week update of Word 2010 through Windows Update. Now, when I click on any Word 97 document located on Desktop or in the My Documents folder, then it opens in Word 2010 instead of Word 97. (In fact this happened also in the past, after certain Office 2010 updates through Windows Update. To regain control, it was enough to issue the unregserver command followed by regserver from the command line for winword.exe of Word97. This time the above approach doesn't help. I checked the file paths, 'Opens with' details, etc. and I was unable to find any error. At the same time, if I choose from the Start Menu: 1. 'Open Office97 document' and double click on any of the Word97 documents from the My Documents folder or Desktop, then they open in Word97 or 2. Programs| MS Office and double click on Word97 icon (link), then a blank Word97 document opens. I'm completely stuck with this issue. How can one fix it?
Why has Office 365 Home premium failed again? Posted: 12 Jun 2014 08:03 AM PDT On 2nd June I had to uninstall then reinstall my Microsoft office because none of it was working. I had to go through the help desk to do this as I am a technophobe. Now it has all stopped working again. What is wrong with this operating system? Will we get a refund for all the days when it's not working? I paid for Home premium, thinking it would be a good reliable user-friendly system. It certainly doesn't seem to be! To say I'm disappointed is so far short of the mark. Help! Is there an alternative system I could use? I'm not looking forward to doing this every 10 days.
Posted: 12 Jun 2014 07:34 AM PDT I want to export a document that has hyperlinks to files on my computer. Can I export it and keep the hyperlinks to other files? Right now the hyperlinks go to PDF's in a file on my computer. I would like to be able to share the file with my coworkers and keep the hyperlinks. Will I have to change the file type and group them together? and if so, how do I do that? Any direction on this would be appreciated! Thank you!
Posted: 12 Jun 2014 07:31 AM PDT I'm modifying a document originally created by someone else within the company. It contains a table with text at 12pt Arial in each cell, but the row height is quite small i.e. the rows are quite close together. Alan
Trouble with list of figure in Word 2010 Posted: 12 Jun 2014 07:23 AM PDT In an existing word document, I have a list of figures that is hyperlinked to numbered figures throughout the document. I had to had a new figure in the middle of the document (ex: Figure 10) and now I have two "Figure 10"s and the numbers for the figure beyond 10 are now one off. The hyperlinks are all still working, but is there a way for Word to easily fix the numbering issues in the list of figures as well as throughout the document? I have tried clicking on "update table" under the references tab, but that just completely deletes my new "Figure 10" from the list of figures.

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 06:43 AM PDT I'm on Win 8.1 fully updated, with Office 365. I was reading through the pages of one of my books, and I hovered my mouse over the vertical scroll bar near the bottom in order to be able to scroll one page (the window is just the right size so that the pages scroll perfectly). One page took me a little longer than the others and I noticed the scroll bar stopped working. At first I thought that maybe I'd accidentally pushed the mouse off the edge of the scroll bar, and sure enough when I moved it a little to the left it worked again. But what's really happening is that the scroll bar is timing out, and even though I've got the mouse properly positioned it's not scrolling. I can tell when it happens... When I first move the mouse onto the scroll bar both the horizontal and vertical scroll bars light up. At that point I can click and scroll by page. But if I leave the mouse on the scroll bar for a while I notice the other one (in this case the horizontal scroll bar) grays out again. Graphically, in this case, as the mouse has recently arrived over the vertical scroll bar, clicking the mouse will cause scrolling to work. Once the mouse has been there without moving for about 5 seconds, the horizontal scroll bar fades out and I can no longer click the vertical scroll bar to scroll the document vertically, even though the vertical scroll bar still shows as active. -Noel

How to permanently turn on Read receipt checkbox (while sending a mail from Word 2010) Posted: 12 Jun 2014 04:42 AM PDT I'm sending email directly from Word via command: File -> Save & Send -> Send as Attachment. The problem is each time I have to check the Read receipt checkbox on the 'Options' tab. I'm not able to turn it permanently on. I tried the Settings in Outlook but it seems to me it has nothing to do with it.

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 12:11 AM PDT I own a Samsung Notebook 9 Lite Windows 8 and installed MS Office on it a few months ago. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. Now none of the Office applications open and not even a message pops up to tell me what the problem is. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Posted: 11 Jun 2014 11:52 PM PDT Hi, I am currently creating a letter template for my office to use. I want to create one template that has information defined by the author of the document (not the template). Currently I have managed to insert the document author's full name using 'Quick Parts > Document Property > Author' however, I would like to be able to insert other fields such as the first name only, initials and mobile number of the document author. Is this possible? I have managed to replicate this with the 'User' initals but we need the information to be defined by the author, not the user. We are all on the same Office 365 network and have our own individual Office 365 accounts if that helps at all. Kind regards, Matt
Numbered and Non-Numbered Heading Styles in Same Template Posted: 11 Jun 2014 09:53 PM PDT I am using MS Word 2010 on Win 7. I am trying to make headings number sequentially, using the method in Shauna Kelley's Outline Numbering in Word which seems to be the definitive source for how to link outline numbers to styles. But I want to refine it by presenting users with a choice of either non-numbered or numbered headings so that users can choose to have either Standard: Heading 1 Heading 2 Heading 3 or Numbered Headings: 1. Heading 1 1.1 Heading 2 1.1.1 Heading 3 To do this, I would like to set up two sets of headings: Heading 1, 2, and 3, and Numbered Heading 1,2 and 3. (I only need three levels.) The thing is, MS Word gets very confused when I try and do it using Shauna Kelley's method. It invariably adds numbers to the Heading 1 style, which i am trying to keep plain. Then if I redefine that style to have 'no number', the Numbered Headings go out of sequence. (The reason is, the same template is used for small documents of 3-4 pages where numbered headings are unnecessary, and also large documents of 100 pages or more, where you need numbered headings.) If anyone has any experience with this, would very much like to hear about it.
