Dear Kevin,

this downgrading of the task launcher is another example of the way MS
looses sympathy among the users of its software.

I worked around the matter by opening a new folder on my desktop and
putting shortcuts in it to my own templates and the programs making up
Works 8. This way I do not need the task launcher any more. I never use
projects or the calendar, except for birthdays. The question now arises:
what did we win with this new version? I cannot see any advantages over
version 7.

Multiple tabs in spreadsheet

To my knowledge this is not possible. But there is a work around i have found
to view the different tabs but in different Spreadsheet files.

Here are the steps:
1. Create as many copies of the Excel files as the number of tabs in the
file.( I usuall create a folder and copy the Excel file into it and name it
as tab1.xls,tab2.xls and so on)
2.Now Open Spreadsheet and File -> Open. Point to tab1.xls and open it in
Spreadsheet. Choose the first tab in the "Import Excel Spreadsheet" dialog.
3.Now open Spreadsheet again and File -> Open. Point to tab2.xls and open in
Spreadsheet. Choose the second tab in the "Import Excel Spreadsheet dialog".

This way you can open each and every tab in an Individual Works Spreadsheet
document. This way you can view all the tabs at the same time.

Sadly, you have to create many copies of the Excel file because once you
open the Excel File in Spreadsheet for the first time you cannot open it in
another Spreadsheet file since one instance of it is already Open.

If there are easier ways to do this please do share.

The best way to work with versions of Works later than version 4 is to
make an intermediate file yourself. Choose csv or txt format and put
field names in the first record. The formatting of numbers, amounts,
dates and times that you have chosen in the databse will be transferred
to the intermediate file, and you can merge from this file easily.

a different print driver, but it's driving me nuts tryiung to work out what
it is

You could create an address book with customised fields using the Works
Spreadsheet or database. I dont think you create new fields in the address
book.

If you use the Works database for this purpose you can mail merge into the
Works Word Processor or Word without a problem.

The suggestions list lists the words in order of closest matching
suggestions. For example say you have mistyped "these" as "thes"
The first suggestion in the list will be "these" and not any word like
"cheese" which might be alphabetically higher.

The AutoSave feature doesn't work that way. AutoSave helps protect you from
computer crashes or power outages, but if you overwrite an existing file and
don't have a backup, AutoSave won't help.

Trouble opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010

I run windows 7 home premium,I went to type some notes today but when i clicked on it a pop up appeared that said,Microsoft Word Starter cannot be opened.Try again or repair the product in control panel.When i go to the control panel and click on office it just tells if i want to uninstall????????? Hoping some one can help me.

How to move "Navigation Pane" to the right side of MS Word?  I have tried many times but it does not fit the space as it does on the left side.
I prefer to place it on the right side, which is much familiar to my style.

Our new computer was loaded with MS WORD Starter. We may want to upgrade to full WORD. MS website only directs us to MS OFFICE. We no longer use any other OFFICE applications than WORD. Can we buy WORD without OFFICE? (We use Windows 7)

Yes...rather than run the reinstall and possibly change what is a fairly
complicated setup (lockdowns and settings and such for classroom use in a
University) it seems it would be much simpler just to try to install that,
now needed, driver.

Time after time questions like these appear on this newsgroup and the advice
given by MVPs (Most Vulgar Professionals) is invariably misleading and
unlikely to solve the problem in the long run. The simplest solution is as
follows:

1) Determine how many departments are there in an organization;
2) Determine how many personnel are employed in each department;
3) As a rule of thumb, calculate the number of copy CDs required to
distribute by dividing the number of personnel by 5 { basially 1 CD for each
5 users}
4) Make/copy number of CDs required for distribution to each department;
5) Record the VLK number on each CD using permanent marker;
6) Send these CDs to each department for use by them;

From my experience every time I try to update Office (XP or 2003) the
original CD is always required. I have installed nearly 1000 copies for my
clients and now I find that the only way to minimise my own time/cost is to
distribute copy CDs with firm's own VLK inscribed on it. If Microsoft wants
to be difficult with its customers so be it. We too can be difficult even
if there is a risk of piracy by distributing copy CDs with VLK. At the end
of the day we too are running a business like Microsoft and we too have
targets to achieve. My solution is a long lasting one.

I have also heard that Office 2005 will not require activation because
Microsoft has just realised that it is losing more money by people not
buying its product due to total cost of ownership, incidentally this
includes support costs such as patching its crap product range. I consider
common sense has prevailed here!!

this problem before with microsoft on other software where
the programmers failed to write competant installers.

Hi Lady,

Assuming that you're installing with Administrator rights
Error 1304 may indicate that your CD needs cleaning or that there is
an issue with the drive configuration.

Be sure that you have shutdown all other software/utilities/antivirus
when running setup of MS Office.

My modem is on a four-port switch; I share it among the Amiga with
which I'm posting this message, two laptops running Linux, and a
Windows 98 box. One of the Linux laptops has an internal Winmodem,
but I found it much easier to just string a cable from its serial
port to my modem switch (it doesn't leave the office all that often).

As for the Win98 box, my policy is to never give Windows unsupervised
access to the Internet. I admit that my situation is different from
many people's, in that what 'Net access I need can be handled by
other machines running other OSes. I cannot justify the ongoing
investment in time and money that's needed to install and maintain
firewalls and anti-virus software for an OS that's so ridden with
security holes, yet I need a modem on this machine for non-Internet
applications which I develop. Here, too, an external modem proves
its worth. There's no way that any spyware or malware (and, being
the paranoid sort, I consider this to include Windows itself) can
get out and start doing damage if the modem is either physically
disconnected or switched off.

Personally, when Linux displayed its inability to consistently probe the
