Text Upside Down in Greeting Card Wizard

Kevin,
What you say is perfectly true of the images and text that are in the
template itself. However, if you wanted to add text where the cursor blinks,
you would be writing upside down. Try adding text in what would be the
facing side when the card is folded.
Maybe all added text is supposed to be hand-written?

The version of MS Works is 8.0 and I am getting this message when I am
installing the software. It gets to the point where it is registering the
software and then the error message pops up. the only option is to hit okay
and then the program uninstalls itself.

I used to use it not to long ago. But, recently I re-did my PC from scratch
and now not able to re-install works. I've tried all the steps that i found
on the web about the particular error number, i.e. troubleshooting with .Net
Framework, and still getting the error. I am not to sure if it something
Microsoft put into the software to check for registration, but it is keeping
me from installing. I need answers.

Thanks for responding.

Hi Jim,

Perhaps Works 8 has a personal dictionary as does my Works 6.0.

Below is from my Works 6.0 help.

Ken
Add words to your personal dictionary
Why add words to a personal dictionary?
Works finds any words that do not appear in the dictionary. You can add words to a personal dictionary so that Works will not flag them as incorrect during subsequent spell checking.
When you add words to the dictionary, Works stores them in a personal dictionary file. This file is separate from the main dictionary. Whenever you check spelling, Works uses both the main dictionary and the personal dictionary.

Important Database, Spreadsheet, and Word Processor share the same dictionaries. If you add a word to your personal dictionary in Spreadsheet, the same word will be added to the dictionary used in Database and Word Processor.

When you check spelling, you can add words to your personal dictionary, or if you have words you want to add to the personal dictionary all at once, you can type one of the words in a document, and then follow the procedure below to add all the words to the personal dictionary.

1 On the Tools menu, click Spelling and Grammar.

2 When Works flags a word that does not appear in the main dictionary and you want to add it your personal dictionary, click Add.
-or-

In the Not in dictionary box, type the word you want to add to the dictionary.

When Works finishes checking the document, a message appears to let you know that the spelling check is complete.

3 Click OK.

page numbers not advancing

Posted: 24 Jun 2013 07:33 AM PDT

I am working on a large document using Word 2007. In the past I never had any trouble using page numbers and the numbers always advanced when I started a new page. Like before, I used the Page Number icon under Insert/Header & Footer and selected the style. The number 1 appears on thye first page and every consecutive page and does not advance. I even tried using a different layout for odd and even and it still makes no diference. As a test I created a Table of Contents to see if it would show page 1 on all entries or diferent page numbers and it shows diferent page numbers so the problem appears to be in displaying the page number on each page. How can I get the page number to advance?

CTRL+M indent problem

Posted: 22 Jun 2013 11:16 AM PDT

I regularly format my Word documents with indents by using CTRL+M to indent.  Since switching from Word 97 to Word 2013, I have run into the following problem: instead of CTRL+M indenting only the paragraph I am working in, it indents all of the previous paragraphs as well.  If I then hit CTRL+Z to undo, the other paragraphs return to their proper place, leaving indented only the paragraph I'd intended to indent in the first place, but it seems crazy to need to do that extra step every time.

I have verified that there are paragraph breaks between the paragraphs, so I'm mystified at this behavior.

Can anyone help?

Why isn't the ToC picking up all my table captions?

Posted: 21 Jun 2013 01:44 PM PDT

Hi All,

More numbering problems!

This time w/ captions.

I have 77 tables in a 150-page Word document.

All of the tables have captions (clicking the caption area clearly shows they are set w/ the Caption style).

For some reason, when I re-generate the ToC, it's skipping a few. I can't see any differences in format or anything else, that would make it skip them!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Activate an Open Word Document

Posted: 21 Jun 2013 05:26 AM PDT

Apologies. I have posted this question (in part) before, but have not had an answer.

I have an Excel VBA UserForm with several CommandButtons. I am using the CommandButtons to invoke a Help facility, whereby the topic numbers relate to bookmarks in a Word document. This part works OK.

I have written the following code .....

Private Sub OpenHelpDocument(strTopic)
Dim strPath As String
strPath = "C:\My Documents\Help Topics.doc"
Dim objWord As Object
Dim docWord As Object
Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")
objWord.Visible = True
    If funIsDocOpen(strPath) = True Then

        MsgBox "Testing"
        Set docWord = objWord.documents.Activate(Filename:=strPath)   ' **** This code fails ***
    Else
        Set docWord = objWord.documents.Open(Filename:=strPath, ReadOnly:=True)
    End If
docWord.Bookmarks(strTopic).Range.Select
End Sub

When the sub 'OpenHelpDocument' is run for the first time, the function 'funIsDocOpen' correctly returns 'False' and the Word Document 'Help Topics.doc' opens in read-only mode at the correct bookmark. So far, so good.

However, when run for a second time with a new topic (with 'Help Topics.doc' already open), it fails "Run-time error '438': Object doesn't support this property or method". The MsgBox "Testing" is displayed prior to the error message.

I want the Word Document to remain open and available for (potentially) multiple Help/Topic/Bookmark enquiries. It will be closed later.

How can I 'Activate' the existing Open Document when the function returns 'True'? I am assuming that 'Activate' is the correct teminology!!

Thanks in anticipation, and apologies again for a repeated question.

        ' *** Set docWord = something

    Else
        MsgBox "False" ' Testing Only

' This route works OK if I force the function to return False
        Set docWord = objWord.documents.Open(Filename:=strPath, ReadOnly:=True)
    End If
docWord.Bookmarks(strTopic).Range.Select
End Sub

Function funIsFileOpen(strPath As String)
Dim intErrorNumber As Integer
On Error Resume Next
    If Len(Dir(strPath)) = 0 Then
        MsgBox "File does not exist"
    Else
        MsgBox "file exists"
' *** Check if file is already open ***
        ' *** Set value for intErrorNumber ***
    End If

    Select Case intErrorNumber
        Case 0    ' *** Is this value correct? ***
            funIsFileOpen = False
        Case 70  ' *** Is this value correct? ***
            funIsFileOpen = True
        Case Else
            MsgBox "Unknown Error"
            Exit Function
    End Select
End Function

The areas in the code where I need some help are marked as ***.

Incoming POP mail? Mail doesn't come in via POP to an Exchange server,
it's converted from POP to SMTP and then thrown at the SMTP VSI on

they'll always aregue that black is white. Present, discuss and guide.

maybe i wasn't being clear. I WANT to run only OWA. I have about 10,000

switch to this other url, or having to change the DNS.

it usually isn't, I'm just curious because the Windows 2003 guide for
Geographically Dispersed clusters uses RR as the reference for the disjointed
NLB pairs. I know this will work from a flat site that doesn't need to track
state. knowing OWA needs to keep state, I'm wondering if there is some kind
of trick that can be used in this setup with regard to NLB.

Installation errors in Office

Posted: 18 Sep 2004 09:19 AM PDT

Unfortunately, the error messages are extremely unhelpful.

For example, here is what occurred when I replicated the problem by
attempting a Detect and Fix operation:

The process begins normally; the first major step is "Gathering required
information..."
The progress bar fills up slowly, gets about halfway, and then I receive a
modal dialog box saying:
"Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Setup failed."

I click OK, and both dialogs close, and the Detect and Fix is canceled.

Every once in awhile, I get the opportunity to send an error report to
Microsoft, but even this does not always happen.

I wish I could give more information, but I don't have information to give.
There is no "Details...." button or anything of that nature to help explain
the source of the error.

All I know is that it happens every single time I try to do anything with
Office setup, running locally or from the original installation CD.

How to upgrade Office Pro onto new computer?

Posted: 14 Sep 2004 12:21 PM PDT

Hi T.,

The OEM editions of Office are licensed only to
the original computer. Those that require activation
use that as the enforcement method.

You can, however, use an OEM edition CD or install
as the qualifying product for a retail edition
(any package) of Office System 2003.
http://microsoft.com/office/howtobuy

If you purchase a retail MS Office 2003 edition then
the license/install is not limited to a particular
PC and you can move your copy of MS Office 2003.

Do I understand correctly that my OEM 'old' Pro 2000 license permits
an upgrade to Pro 2003 on my 'new' computer?

There are bits of discussion in the newsgroup to the effect that OEM
licenses are bound to their original hardware and cannot be relocated
to new hardware. It's not clear to me that this restriction has
applied to *all* versions of Office.

...and while I'm at it..

If I install a retail upgrade on top of my 'trial' am I correct that I
end up with a perpetual (meaning transferable to a 'newer' machine)
license?

Thanks for the reply. >>

Yes, you could delete 2.2, but I think, that this should have already
happend during the installation of version 2.3.

Check before you delete something, you might need.

[discuss] OpenOffice Writer - Page Numbering issue

For discussion/action:

I think OpenOffice Writer needs a much better page numbering function. It
would be much better if there was an easier way to edit the page numbers and
global page numbers in the OpenOffice Writer. Presently, it's hard to set
page numbers up unless you want to go nuts editing page footers, etc. There
really ought to be a better user-friendly option in the OpenOffice Writer to
set, edit and remove page numbers easily for the entire document. Yes,
presently you can edit the footer on a specific page, but it doesn't work
for the entire document. I'm hoping that some gifted programmer out there
can fix this problem, I think it wouldn't be too difficult.

Thank you,Sam Eubanks

JJ: There is a return path somewhere in list mail headers containing
the subscription address (or at least, a big hint). Check the OOo web
site for how to unsubscribe an address that isn't your usual 'send'
address. The info is there, but you might have to dig a bit.

It sounds like you are talking about subscribing to the "discuss" list
(rather than "registering" which is most often used to mean you are
registering your free license to use OpenOffice.org sofware). Your
message did appear on the "org" list so you succeeded
in signing up!

Go ahead, we are reading you loud and clear. If you did NOT receive a
copy of your message that was sent to the list, you may need to talk to
your ISP to see why messages are not coming through ... feel free to
write me privately at net if you need help with the
mailing list itself. (I'm pretty new to using OpenOffice myself so
please do not write privately with questions about using it)

[discuss] OpenOffice and Sharepoint

Consider some other alternatives to sharepoint.

Lotus has team rooms and repositories that are acessible by both Windows
and Linux clients.

You can use CVS or Subversion, these are also commonly used repositories.
There are GUI interfaces such as Tortoise.
Microsoft is attempting to use Sharepointe to protect their monopoly. CVS
and Subversion provide the ability to save change-by-change
revisions, to merge revisions, and to manager the history efficiently.
Since these repositories can also be secured using LDAP, access control
can be very tightly constricted and controlled.

Try to determine the real goal. What are the top 5 features they want
from Sharepoint?

Then look at how OSS applications can meet those same goals.
Since OSS implementations can support both Windows AND Linux, make the
case for the OSS alternatives.

[discuss] OpenOffice and Sharepoint

Hello,

I work for a fairly large school district. We will be implementing
Microsoft SharePoint over the next several months. I personally love
Open Office but unfortunately it appears that there is no connector so
that Open Office will integrate with SharePoint the same way that Office
2003 and Office 2007 integrate with SharePoint. This is a bit
frightening because SharePoint is rapidly expanding in many enterprise
environments such as ours.

Anyway, I wanted to pass along the suggestion that the someone look into
a SharePoint connector much the same way that the Linux Evolution e-mail
client came up with an Exchange connector. That's a different situation
but the same concept is the same. Thanks again for your wonderful
product. At home it is the only office suite that I use but I'm afraid
that I'm getting wedged out from using it at work since there is an
almost seamless integration between Office and Sharepoint now.

Have a good day,

James Rawlyk
