office 2013 does not work!!! Posted: 30 Apr 2014 03:00 PM PDT Every time i tried to open Word, Excel, or Powerpoint 2013 i get a message that says a problem has occurred.  So i followed the instructions to go online and fix the problem and i have used the fix it tool to uninstall and reinstall but nothing works ... STILL!! I have paid my $$ and i do believe i should have a product that works as it says it does ... so y is it NOT WORKING!!!!!!! I do not want the public to help me fix the dang thing ... I want Microsoft to fix the thing!

Another question: How can I change the bottom margin on my 2 page table, then change the bottom margin on another 2 page table. When I do this, it changes the previous table's bottom margin to match. Why are they all connected???? UGH!!!!

Table Tools Posted: 30 Apr 2014 02:16 PM PDT Word Starter 2010. After not being able to print to PDF as I have done so many times before I noticed a yellow translucent tab, a bit left of center, at the very top of the page with a white "Table Tools" in it. I can click through the File, Home, Page Layout, etc tabs and the yellow "Table Tools" tab stays in place. So far I have not found any way to get rid of it. Any ideas any wish to offer about how to get rid of the yellow "Table Tools" tab will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

Printing out to 550 printers a documentent specific to each printer Posted: 30 Apr 2014 01:45 PM PDT Hi everybody! Here's something new... I have to print out a single page document on about 1200 windows print server queued printers. Their queues are going to change, and I want to use the printer as a communication vehicle. Each document will be specific to the printer I am printing on, telling them to scan and email the document back to me, then post the document by the printer. I don't want to have to map 1200 print queues thank you very much.  I will accept having people scan the print outs back to me. I need confirmation they got them. I want to combine the mailmerge functionality of Word and Excel with print control, in order to have the merge automatically send to the queue I identify. Anyone have any thoughts on a solution for a non-coder?

Help my word isnt working Posted: 30 Apr 2014 01:14 PM PDT After being very happy with the free trial I tried to link my account to on of my room mates Microsoft account because he had bought it and there was a option to, but now it does not let me sign into my account and It says: "The account ........ isn't associated with this office product. to activate this install, please sign in with the account associated with you product. if you purchased office for urself, use that same account that you used when purchasing office if you receive office through your organisation or school, please contact administrator if you have a product key, go back and select "Enter a product key instead"." Can someone Please help

Word Global Template -- Best Practice Posted: 30 Apr 2014 01:12 PM PDT I'm reasonably new to the idea of using a global template, in conjunction with the normal.dot template.  My goal would be to have a template that houses a custom ribbon bar and on that ribbon bar there will be shortcuts to special macros -- which will be available for all users in the company. I created a template document and placed that document in a shared location on the server.  From there, I included that document in the STARTUP folder in APPData\etc. The macros appear ok, but I didn't get the new custom ribbon to go with it!  Did I miss a trick somewhere? Subsequent to that, what would be the best way to make sure that all updates to said ribbon and macros are pushed out to each workstation? Guidance is appreciated!

Office 365 on Windows 8.1, please help!! Posted: 30 Apr 2014 12:53 PM PDT Hello All, Please help!! I purchased a new laptop yesterday that has Windows 8.1 pre-installed.  I have downloaded the 30 day trial of Office 365. I have 'pinned' it so I can see the icon at the bottom of the screen, but when I click on the icon it shows a Welcome to your new Office', presentation and that is it.  How do I get an icon just to click on the desktop page and then for all the programs to show?  Do I really have to log onto office.com/myaccount every time that I want to use Word or Excel?  I previously used XP, where of course accessing each program seemed to be much easier, hoping someone can point me in the right direction!! Section Breaks do not hold when formatting marks are hidden Posted: 30 Apr 2014 12:52 PM PDT I have a word document created by a merge that has a hidden text with page and section breaks.   When the Formatting marks are visible, the information after the section break displays on a new page, when I hide the formatting marks, the information moves up to the previous page.  How can i get the section break (next page) and the data that is starting on the new page to hold when the formatting marks are hidden?

Word and PowerPoint 2007 errors on importing pictures Posted: 30 Apr 2014 12:37 PM PDT I cannot import pictures, get error message "An error occurred while importing this file. My old docx files do not show pictures but a red x with a box. If I create a new file with a picture and save it in doc format, this works. I think that has to do with SP3 installation.  I completely uninstalled and reinstalled my software. This is a problem now in PowerPoint too.  The files show a box with "the image cannot be displayed. Your computer may not have enough memory to open the image, or the image may have been corrupted."  I have checked the memory, there is enough RAM and hard drive space.  Even if I deleted the file, I cannot import a new one since I get the error message I posted in the first line.  I thought this might be a Registry issue, but I am thinking now it has to do with the update.

Forcing "Web Layout" view for document templates Posted: 30 Apr 2014 11:51 AM PDT Greetings, I am wondering if there is an "easy" way to force web layout view on a document template? I created a template for my department, for our procedures. They're best viewed in web layout format (and we want them in this view when they're migrated into SharePoint). When I created the template, I set web layout view for that template. But any time I double-click to create a new document based on the template, it defaults back to Print Layout view.  Same as when I save a new document (based off the template) in Web Layout view -- next time opening, it defaults back to Print Layout. Help me fix this, please!

Inserting math/scientific symbols in Office 365 Word app Posted: 30 Apr 2014 11:25 AM PDT I have an Office 365 small business premium subscription and am trying to use the Word App on my ipad to edit scientific documents.  But I can't find a way to insert mathematical, Latin, Greek and other international symbols like the one for less than or equal to, degrees, microliter, etc.  How to I gain access to the full list of symbols to insert?

Word 2007 Automatic Data Updates Posted: 30 Apr 2014 10:57 AM PDT Is there a way to take data from a 2007 Word Document [the text will be a summary as bullet points] and link it to another one or two 2007 Word Documents automatically.  For example, I have a large document that contains several 'summaries'.  The summaries are also used in each individual document which are stored in Sharepoint.  Since we have about 50-60 documents, hence 50-60 summaries in the one main document, could the summaires in the "large" document be set up to update in the individual docs so that we don't have to change the summary in more than one place.  We could even have 50-60 individual docs for each doc usage, and have it link to the "main" document of summaries and each individual document where the summary also needs to show up.  Hope this makes sense.  Hoping you can help.

Templates To Reuse for several documents Posted: 30 Apr 2014 10:49 AM PDT I have been asked to put together a Word template.  I have 207.  The template will be used to provide the same look and feel for several documents.  If I have created the template, how to I use the template to apply to the other documents. Or, do I open the revised document [text info revised/updated], and somehow apply the template to the old document.  Just can't seem to get a good feel on how to use the template for the existing documents.  I know I can copy and paste, but isn't there a better way

And then the value"3" becomes "21". But If a want to store the value "2'" in a variable using VBA, how can I retrieve this value et store it in a varialble?

Tab leader in table of contents reverts from blank to dotted Posted: 30 Apr 2014 10:32 AM PDT Hi Experts I have created a template where I have set up some default styles to be used in the documents based on the template. I have inserted a standard table of contents (Office 2007, References, Table of Contents, Insert Table of Contents...). In the table of contents I have selected to Show page numbers and Right align page numbers with a Tab leader: None. It picks up the format From template. Under Options I have selected to include Heading 1 and Heading 2 in the TOC level. However it seems that the settings are not stored. When I remove my dummy text (since it is a template) and update the TOC it changes to "No table of contents entries found". Then when closing the template and starting a new document based on the template the dotted tab leader is then applied to the TOC again and Heading 3 is added in the TOC level as well. Any ideas how to get rid of the dotted tab leader?

How do I input page numbers to a book written in two columns on each page? Posted: 30 Apr 2014 09:30 AM PDT I'm writing a large book in Word 2013.  We've formatted it to be 8.5 x 11, using two columns on each page.  Word seems to want to number the pages as 8.5-size, when actually the written page will be 5.5 x 8.5"  and those page numbers need to be at the bottom of each column.  I can't figure out how to make that happen.  And it occurs to me that the whole book may need to be re-formatted.  Do I really need to do that, or will Word do that for me with some magic formula? How to make a document Read-Only in Office 365 if the document resides in a SharePoint Library Posted: 30 Apr 2014 09:01 AM PDT I use Word in Office 365 to create and edit documents that reside in a SharePoint library.  Is there a way via Word that I can mark the documents Read-Only (and manage their access) so that other users of the documents can't accidently change them?  Office 365 seems to have a Restrict option, but would I need to list the email address of every editor?  Is there a way to do this via SharePoint?  Is there a best practice?

If it falls apart by the time it reaches the other end, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it immediately goes into the circular file. Not 12-year-old-kid simple, but middle-aged-man-didn't-grow-up-with-this-technology-and-is-ready-to-light-his-computer-on-fire kind of simple. Thanx.

Posted: 30 Apr 2014 08:50 AM PDT This has happened several times recently when I need to fill in forms in a word document sent to me and the error says the form was created in a more current version of Word than I have.  I am subscribed to Office 365.  I've tried to copy and paste the info, but the images do not come along.  What am I doing wrong? File trust setting on Office 365 University Posted: 30 Apr 2014 07:42 AM PDT My computer isn't allowing me to save documents because of file trust settings, but when I go into my file trust settings all of the word documents are allowed to open and save. Copy Objects between files / templates in Word 2007 Posted: 30 Apr 2014 06:09 AM PDT I have file with custom styles, custom cover pages, and various other custom items.  I recall (correct me if I am mistaken) that you could copy these types of items between files/templates using the Organizer.  I can not seem to figure out how to do this in the Office Word 2007 application.  I work for a company with a lot of secure health related data which is protected by US Federeal laws (HIPPA).  My question is how can I do this without installing third party applications?  OUr security people will not allow that to be done by us worker-bees.  And anything new to be installed goes through a lot of testing and then a lengthy Change Management process. I want to compare two Mail Merge Fields within Word 2010, and depending on whether or not they match return a different string in my document. In Word I've linked to the datasource and I am using the following IF command { IF { MERGEFIELD FIELD1 } = { MERGEFIELD FIELD2 } "SAME" "DIFFERENT" } When both fields begin with the same number this will always return 'SAME'. If FIELD2 starts with a different number or contains no numbers then it will correctly return 'DIFFERENT'. The following table shows some example results. FIELD1 FIELD2 IF COMPARISON RESULT 1 ADDRESS 1 ADDRESS TWO SAME 1ADDRESS 1 ADDR SAME 1 ADDRESS 1 ADDR2 TESTING SAME 1 ADDRESS 2 ADDR DIFFERENT ADDRESS ADDRESS TWO DIFFERENT I suspect that it may be Word is not comparing these fields as text when they begin with a number but, if this is the case, I'm not sure how to override this? The macro cannot be found or has been disabled - after creating own macros in Word 2010 Posted: 30 Apr 2014 04:26 AM PDT I create my own little macros in Word 2010 (WIndows 7) to do certain simple repetitive tasks such as replacing or formatting things in documents that I am working on. When I used Word 2007, all these macros worked all the time, no problem. When I switched to Word 2010, I recreated the macros from scratch. But some of them throw up the above error message when I try to run them. Others work fine. I recorded them all in the same way so I can't understand why some run and others are blocked. I have set Enable all macros in the Trust Center as described in the help link on the error message. I have then even re-recorded the macros that didn't work. But still they don't work. This is really annoying. How do I get Word 2010 to run my macros every time? NB: I have looked at other similar threads here but the scenario is different. I don't get an error message when I open Word, only when I try and run the macro concerned. Many thanks for suggestions.

PDF files Posted: 30 Apr 2014 03:57 AM PDT Please advise on the simplest way of converting word or other office documents to a pdf file. I have recently started a trial of MS Office 365. Up until just over a week ago I was using MS Office 2003 and had an easily downloadable app but I have forgoten what it was.  I had the option of saving as a pdf file when I chose print. Since requiring a new hard drive and operating system the app had gone but I don't believe I need it now with MS Office 2013!?

(current WORD version 15.0.4605.1003) I get the message ....trying to reconnect to your account, sometimes have to reenter my MS account details.  Unless I am on wifi, it will not connect and I can no longer work with any documents offline!  This is absolutely impossible to work with as I am often out and about. I tried turning automatic updates off, but that makes no difference.  Please help! SJ

cannot open word and excel Posted: 29 Apr 2014 11:14 PM PDT The Windows OS is now OK, but when I try to open Word or Excel, they are not in operation.  The word interface appears, showing that I can choose template, letter, document, etc, but when I further click on either icon, the application closes.  A dialogue box pop up, telling me there is a problem and the problem cannot be solved.  The same case happens to excel, while PowerPoint is working alright.  It is weird to me. With product key, I had download the MS Office once again, yet the problem remains the same.

error code 30029-4 received when trying to repair Word 2013 online Posted: 29 Apr 2014 09:33 PM PDT Yesterday I updated Office to 15.0 now Word does not work.  Word, Excel, Office and Power Point were all missing. I did the quick repair and it recovered the logo's but they are grayed out and the short cut can't be found. I tried the online repair and received error code 30029-4. Additionally Adobe is the only program listed to open the .docx but will not work either.

Paragraph settings in text boxes reverting to default at save (?) Posted: 29 Apr 2014 06:01 PM PDT In Microsoft Word 2010, I have inserted a lot of text boxes (calendar format) and I changed the paragraph settings in each one to single space. When I save the document, close it, and open it back up all of the text boxes have reverted to 2 spaces (the preset). I have tried many different setting changes, and get the same result.

To explain why I needed the 2 columns- I had to proofread a document on my sheet I had to write the wrong text and in the column on the other side I had to put the correction along with my justification for the change. Hence, the other column, so the reader to cross over to the other column and to make it easier to read. Error Message Please Help Posted: 20 Jun 2009 04:47 PM PDT Often large scale documents will not copy and paste from one program to another because of formatting issues. For example, to copy the contents of a large Word file to WordPerfect or other word processing may produce the very same message box that you received. Try copying to the notepad first and then paste the ASCII textfrom there to your new program. This erases all formatting, good, bad or indifferent and allows the new program to accept the article as a new document. Microsoft Word 2007 has partially solved this problem by including "Compatibility mode" that will allow the importation of just about any file from any word processor, including Works, wordPerfect . I hope this helps. A secondary situation may ocurr if your PC does not have enough free RAM to support such a large copy/paste operation. There were 10 updates from Microsoft at that time, including the one for Works. I had problems with the Works Calendar back in April and finally managed to get it going again at that time. I've pretty much decided that I don't want to keep trying to figure it out this time because it might just happen again--then it would be the same aggravation one more time.
