Problem opening files in Word2013

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 02:32 PM PDT

Every time I open a document by double clicking on it,  the computer opens it in "protected" and "compatibility mode" and changes the file name to "Wd00000012" or similar. I can edit but needs to resave every time.

The documents were all created with word Office 365/2013, the machine is running W7/Office 365/W2013. I have tried with just creating, saving and then trying to double click to open - same result.

I have discovered that right clicking the file and selecting "edit" opens the file correctly and allows it to be saved immediately back to the current location. I have also tried to resolve the compatibility issue by going into the trust centre settings and altering "protected view" options so that no internet documents etc open in protected mode. None of this has helped.

Also, by starting Word first and then browsing to the file makes it open correctly.

Any advice much appreciated,

Sincerely,

Mårten

Mysterious behavior of photos

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 01:21 PM PDT

I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to edit digital photos for insertion in blog posts, on Facebook, as email attachments, etc. Although I invariably choose the "Document" size on the Compress Pictures tab, and they all end up the same dimensions (in pixels) and about the same size (in kb), they occasionally behave very strangely when inserted in Word.

The first screen shot below shows two picture files as listed in Windows Explorer. The second shows the result when these two pictures are inserted in Word. The Size tab of Format Picture shows both of them as being at 100% even though one is 8" x 10.67" while the other is 2.56" x 3.41".

Does anyone have any ideas?

How do I make Word 2013 stop asking me if I want to save changes to the document template if i'm not using the template right then?

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 12:55 PM PDT

I created a Word template. When i generate a new document from that template and try to save it, Word constantly asks me if i want to  save my changes to the document template. I created the template as a tarting place, and I don't ever want to change it? HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP?

Cursor movement - Word 2013, Dell laptop

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 12:48 PM PDT

When using previous versions of Word I was used to using 'control' 'home' or 'end' to get to the beginning or end of a document, and 'home' and 'end' to get to the beginning and end of lines. Why doesn't this work in Word 2013 on a new Dell XPS laptop, 8.1?

Word 2010: How do I change the default text position in a prebuilt sidebar in a report template?

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 11:20 AM PDT

Greetings, Community ---

I'm working with a Word 2010 report template called Adjacency.  I chose it because it has mirror margins and prebuilt sidebars that automatically position themselves correctly on an even or odd page.

Here's the problem. The text in the sidebar starts about a third of the way down the sidebar. I want to start at the top of the sidebar. How do I do this?

All help much appreciated!

Page numbering in Word 2010

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 10:05 AM PDT

I am creating a document that has both headers and footers.

The footer is identical throughout the document and contains page numbering (except for the first page).

The headers are a bit more complicated:

The document is divided into sections. Each section header includes the section title and the number of the page in this specific section.

Here's the problem:  starting an new section, I defined page numbering in the header  to start from 1 and it automatically did the same in the footer. I went to the footed and told it to continue from previous section, and it automatically changed the header to do the same.

IS THERE A WAY TO SEPARATE PAGE NUMBERING IN THE HEADER & FOOTER OF THE SAME DOCUMENT?!

Thanks in advance!

Pictures not showing in Word 2007, but print OK

Word 2010/2013: How to use Go To menu to go to (e.g.) Endnote 5 in Chapter 2

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 06:22 AM PDT

I have a document that contains two chapters, each in its own section. Endnote numbering is correctly set to restart at each section in the whole document.

The problem is this (I am giving a simplified example):

Chapter 1  has two endnotes, numbered 1 and 2.

Chapter 2 has ten endnotes, numbered 1 through 10.

If I use the Go To menu to go to an endnote, and enter "3", Word goes to endnote 1 in chapter 2, which is the third endnote in the document, even though it is numbered 1. If I use Go To to go to endnote 8, it takes me to endnote 6 in chapter 2.

I seem to remember that some Word dialogs have ways of specifying pages or other items within a section, but I can't find any syntax that seems to solve this problem.

It would be very inconvenient to through-number all the notes temporarily, because I am marking changes from a printout in which the correct numbers apply. In my actual document, there are six chapters, each with almost a hundred endnotes, so the problem is not at all easy to deal with.

Thanks for any help.

Help with runtime error 438 - caused by using Office 2010 macro in Office 2007?

Posted: 19 Oct 2014 04:48 AM PDT

Hi,

I am trying to run a visual basic macro in excel 2007 that was created in excel 2010.

When working, the macro creates a word document, populates it with data in the spreadsheet then converts to a pdf before emailing.

I'm getting a 438 error at the point where it creates the word document.  I believe this is down to the different version of word I am using (having made some changes to the references in excel (to version 12.0).

The debugger has highlighted the following code as the issue:

objword.ActiveDocument.SaveAs2 Filename:=name & "_" & BookingID & ".docx", FileFormat:= _
wdFormatXMLDocument, LockComments:=False, Password:="", AddToRecentFiles _
:=True, WritePassword:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, EmbedTrueTypeFonts _
:=False, SaveNativePictureFormat:=False, SaveFormsData:=False, _
SaveAsAOCELetter:=False, CompatibilityMode:=14

Running Office 2007 on a Windows 8.1 device.  Both 32-bit.

The code works perfectly on Office 2010 on a Windows 7 machine, both 64-bit.

I don't know how to code at all so any advice welcomed.

Thank you.

Since of late when i type in Microsoft Word 2010 after i press the enter button there s a huge space and when i try changing the spacing it does not change. But when i do press the enter and swift button together then i would not get the huge space. I am using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and running Windows 8. Glad if anyone could give me a permanent solution so that i wouldn't need to press the enter and the swift button together all the time which is kind of cumbersome. Thanks

How to keep source font color when merging styles ?

Posted: 18 Oct 2014 05:00 PM PDT

Hello,

I am trying to insert syntax highlighted code snippet into my MS word document. I have created a style for code sections in my MS word document and I would like to use it for the copied code snippet. While copying, when I use "Merge styles" option, I am losing all the syntax highlighting and the whole code becomes black colored (because my base fornt color is black). I would like to keep the source font color formatting but merge it into my code section style (which basically just enables line numbering and background shading).

Here is the original DOTX file with further explanation : Link. You can download it and open in MS Word 2013 to see the contents properly.

Thank you.

Cannot use Save As to get a picture into Word from a web page

Posted: 18 Oct 2014 03:42 PM PDT

Split from this thread.

While you should be able to copy/paste or drag an image into Word, another option is to right-click on the image and choose Save As. Save it to your My Pictures folder and then use Insert | Illustrations | Pictures to insert the picture you saved. When you save the picture, note that the default filename (the one used for the online image) may be something you would not recognize, so you may want to change the filename when you save it.

I don't get the Save As option described above, so I'm stuck. (Before I tried this I tried a simple Control + C and was told "Item not Collected; Format not supported by Office Clipboard" What next?

I think you can build up quite a good picture based on what someone says

"symptoms" are such a perfect fit to the textbook is because the people
causing the campaign "fitted me up" in such a way that what they did
would resemble the symptoms of schizophrenia. Hence TV, radio, other
media, people in the streets etc. By a fortunate coincidence (for them)
these mthods of harassment are the ones which offer easiest channels of

It's really quite neat. All it takes is for people to start believing

: context-free parts of articles, conversations and things-on-the-TV and
: assume they are meant for you. Mike, this is called paranoia.

But that's the way real abuse works, too. People interject words and
phrases into what they say which they know will have meaning for the listener.

And sometimes, they make it obvious. The very first evening of my job in
Oxford, we went for a drink with the technical director, and a couple
of other employees. The TD said in an "as-if" aside to one of the others,
"Is this the bloke who's been on TV?" (he said it directly in front of
me, and obviously meant mke to hear him saying it). The other person
replied, "Yes, I think so".

I think the subtext of what the TD said was "Why are they bothering with
him? He's so insignificant, why would they possibly want to spend the
resources going after him and putting all that expensive technology in
his home, when there must be much better targets?". The Technical
Director was given to sometimes disrespecting people, you see, and in my
case he couldn't see the point of anyone expending money on harassing me.

"Unprecedented" hits the nail on the head. It _is_ unprecedented, but we
have only just reached the technical stage at which it is feasible, and
we know video-spying is done to other people (NB the Diana-Hewitt
episode) and is a routine tool of security agencies.

Perhaps what is unprecedented is not the technical side, but the social
manipulation of many people by a concealed element in what other
countries would be called the secret police. The most disturbing element
is the degree to which people allow themselves to be unquestioningly
manipulated by an evil element within the state.

From Bruce Hagen MS-MVP OE

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook
Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974

Office 2007 breaks OE's spell check. Downloading a free spell check is the
simplest way around this.

Some free spell check programs.

Vampirefo:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952

TinySpell:
http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/ (Checks the spelling as you type).

Or from this blog:
http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/11/13/80

After installing Office 2007 RTM, you don't have English as a choice of
language in the spell checker of Outlook Express and potentially other
programs.

a.. Office 2007 is replacing the v.3 English Proofing Tools that shipped
in prior versions of Office with a new version (v.6). There are a number of
changes in this new version, but the one that is causing this problem is
that Outlook Express doesn't understand the new English Proofing Tools. This
is a problem because Outlook Express has never shipped with its own proofing
tools but has used the ones shipped by Office.
b.. There are a few scenarios in which you won't run into this problem:
a.. An upgrade from Office 2003 or earlier to Office 2007 RTM if you
don't manually uninstall the earlier version of Office.
b.. A configuration in which Office 2003 (or earlier) has not been
removed.
For example, I have Office 2003 still on both of my computers, and I
still have English in Outlook Express.
c.. The workaround for this problem is to install the English dictionary
from Office 2003 (or Office XP). There should be no need to install all of
Office just the dictionary. The English Proofing Tools can be found in the
Custom Install tree under Office Shared Features|Proofing Tools|English.

KB936048 is for Office 2003, not office 2000. Do you have any office 2003
products installed? Furthermore if you do, the patch also requires Sp2 for
Office 2003. For this patch to install correctly you will need to meet both
of those pre-requisites.

Hi, rhinehart489,

Not exactly sure what you're asking. If you have legal licenses for Vista
Premium on both PCs, then you can use any Vista Premium disc to install it.

Hope that helps. If you have more questions about Vista, you should post to
one of the Vista newsgroups, as this one is related to setup of Office
products.

It worked!!! Many thanks. I should have known that, because I've had to use
that method for other set-ups. It was easier to set things up in win. XP..

Oh yes. And you can use FrontPage as the qualifying product for an upgrade.

Hi Stb,

If you've downloaded an additional time to be sure it's not the download than you may want to try a different conversion utility or
a mount utility other than Nero if you're on Windows Vista. There have been problems with using the MS images with some versions of
Nero.

Office reload, after OS recover

Posted: 14 Aug 2007 11:26 AM PDT

Still the same outcome. After trying the installer cleanup, I'm back to
Office programs opening, with Windows intaller running every time and the
program taking about 90 seconds to load. I've still got the inability to
unistall, or reinstall, still getting the "patch not available" error.
Outlook won't startup at all. I get a message saying that I should reinstall.
Excel, Word, Access, etc..., all open after the 90 second delay.

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks,

When you say it opens the "original Account" form, what do you mean? Are you
expecting a different form? The sub-Account form is the same form, it's just
that it should open with the Parent Account already populated.

Agreed. Modifying the web.config for the actual CRM app can cause issues that
might not be readily apparent. Creatig your own virtual direcotry under the CRM
site that overides this seeting is the way to go.

Hi,

You might want to create a different application in IIS which contains your

Creating appointments with SQL

The short answer is "no" you can't create any CRM records without letting
the CRM platform first get hold of the XML. There is an Activity API set
that you can use (as Matt mentioned) to create or update Activity instances.
You would only use <fetch> if you want to query those instances later. The
issue you're going to run into is that you can't add attributes to any
Activity type without knowing an awful lot about the internals of
Activities. And, anything you do to change the Activity definition in a 1.x
installation will break when you upgrade to the next version.

Sorry to paint such a gloomy picture, but it's for your own good (I remember
my grandfather telling me that once... he was right).

I am open to other suggestions though. I do appreciate the post Rob. Thank

Form customization will NOT fix this. The form in question can't be changed in

modifying createdate in Activity

Posted: 17 May 2005 04:03 PM PDT

Sunny,

While this is not a supported solution, you could try to update the CreatedOn
directly in the database after you import the records. The biggest issue you
will have is getting the actual value correect as they are all stored in GMT so
you will need to convert your original values.

I would do this in small batches though as I have heard of some people aving
trouble when trying to process a large number of updates in a single batch.
Also, just make sure you don't touch any of the GUID's or the security
descriptor.

Publish Form Changes without restarting IIS?

Posted: 17 May 2005 08:30 AM PDT

Also, if you are 24x7 I hope you aren't making that many changes to your system.
If you are making changes that frequently, you have a change control issue that
you should address as you are asking for trouble. Changes should be scheduled
to be done during a period of low usage and the users notified to avoid
problems.

If you are running on Windows 2003, you "may" have another option. The App
Pools in Win 2003 can be configured to automatically refresh after a certain
amount of time. By default, this is somewhere around 27 hours. You could just
wait until the app pool recycles and I think it might refresh the cache.
However, I'm not sure this will work and it does introduce some risk as you have
no control over when this will happen.
