No complete IMF install with SP2

Posted: 09 Mar 2008 09:58 AM PDT

I think I got it fixed. I still need to do some testing. I re-ran the SP2
install using /forestprep and /domainprep. The schema extensions are there
now. I see the UCE Archive folder, which I changed via the registry. I'll
watch to make sure spam gets filtered.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sure that I put in Enterprise key, and also when right click on that

When I created 6th database on that server, Information Store service
stopped working and in Application events showed up event saying that
Information store cannot run because there is more that maximum number of
databases.

Btw, OS is windows 2008 Enterprise and Exchange 2007 SP1 enteprise.
Really strange.

Viewing Free Busy with Outlook 2007

Posted: 07 Mar 2008 12:12 PM PST

To have free-busy data for the Exchange 2003 users, I believe you should
have a public store on your Exchange 2007 server and you should create
s on it for the free-busy system public folders. When you're native
Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007 in your organization, I believe that you will
no longer have to have the public folders.

OK, good, thanks.

Here goes the $64M question..... if I have more than one HT and more than
one edge, should I have an instance of EdgeSync for each possible pairing, or
one instance for each pair?
I thought I had read on a blog it is better to set up Edgesync between each
pair of HT/Edge.

For example, I have 2 Edge, 2 HT - should I create 2 instances of EdgeSync,
or 4?

Toolbars & Menu Has Disappeared on Word 2000

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 02:44 PM PST

I am using Word 2000 Pro on a Vista.  I have used Word 2000 for years and today when I opened Word, the toolbars and Menu did not show.

Note:  EXCEL and PowerPoint's menu appear correctly.

I have tried the following with no success:

 - Holding down ALT with V did NOT show the View menu (Word was opened w/a new document page).

 - I tried repairing WORD with no success.

 - I uninstalled Office 2000.

 - I used Norton's Utilities to clean the Registry of Office remnants.

 - I reinstalled Office and Word still does not show the toolbars or menu.

Can anyone help with a solution?

Thanks,   Ed

MS Word Dictionary Backup - Unknown File in Backup Folder

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 02:06 PM PST

Unknown File in Word Dict Backup Folder ,  2014 December 14

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and MS Word 2010 (as part of Office Pro 2010).

Whenever I add words to my MS Word 2010 Custom dictionary or Exclude dictionary, I back up those dictionary files to another folder. I noticed that in my backup folder is also the following file, and I don't know what it is.

CMAdj.9.bin

I can look at the properties, but I still don't understand. It is a BIN file that opens with "Windows Shell Commor" (not "command"), is 1 KB in size, but I don't know what it does. The file modification date is different from the file modification dates of when I first backed up my MS Word dictionaries to the backup folder.

I don't have an "open with" command available when I right-click this file name. So I cannot view it in Notepad. (Btw, is there a simple way to add an "open with" command to always show on the right-click, context/command, menu -- without editing the registry?)

And since I don't know what it commands, I don't want to click on it to run it. I could simply delete it, since it's in my backup folder and therefore cannot be integral to operating any program. If I copied it there, I don't know from where I got it.

Does anyone know or have a guess as to what this file might be or does? Could it have copied along with my MS Word dictionaries when I backed them up?

When you reply, please use simple English because I don't understand a lot of techy words.

Thanks.

Space removed in Microsoft Office Word Document

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 06:41 AM PST

Dear all,

I have a problem with some of my Word files. Whenever I reopen the file, I always find spaces removed between words as shown in the attached screen shot.

Each time it appears in different places.

This is really serious as it is very difficult for long documents to read the whole document in order to scan such errors especially that most of them are not picked up by the auto-correct option.

I do not think it is a corrupted file because it happens in several documents.

Please advise and help solving this problem noting that this is a computer connected to a network and I had the Office 2007 and Word 2010 installed recently and this problem appeared afterwards.

Thanks.

Word error

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 06:03 AM PST

I created a word document without any problems and closed the program.

While I was attaching the document in a facebook message i got 2 errors.

One said that i cant close word since there was an open dialogue box.

The other one said that there was a problem saving the document and that it can be caused by low ram,low memory, outdated antivirus or my antivirus is incompatible with word. (As far as I know my antivirus is fine and i have enough memory)

Nevertheless, the file was attached&sent, it was saved just the way i made it and it opens normaly.

How can i fix these problems?

Distraction free/Dark mode for Microsoft Word

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 02:38 AM PST

Hi,

as a university professor who spends hours in front of Microsoft Word grading paper, I feel the need for what I would calla "Dark" mode that displays text in white or green or amber on black background. This would greatly improve useability and be quite restful on the eyes. The current modalities with black text on large white areas are very tiring.

This could be introduced as a feature in full screen mode (which, unfortunatley, does not allow editing). One click, and the background goes black while the text is displayed in one of three or four options: white, gray, green, amber.

This would also keep Word abreast of the competition. Software like Scrivener, Dark Room and others already have this option.

Edit: I have found a workaround. From the Page Layout tab you can change Page Color. Since it wold be too much trouble to also change font color, using a darkish gray background also works with black fonts. This is much easier on the eyes. Only one has to remember to change the background back to white before printing.

Help with auto Line

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 05:41 PM PST

For a while I had some default or something that was of great help to me.

It worked like this:

1. I would hit enter to a fresh line,

2. Then type 3 or 4 hyphens

3. Then hit enter again.

Result:

1.  I would instantly get a continuous, unbroken line that went across the page from border to border.

2.  The cursor would go to a fresh line.

3.  Everything would continue normally.

Now I can't get it to do this. I assume I changed SOMETHING! I just do not know what or how. I am at *** Email address is removed for privacy ***  Please let me know if you can figure this out! Please. It was very handy for me. No box to click on, no window to open, no nothing! Just the 3 or 4 hyphens, hit enter, and boom! A perfectly straight line was inserted!

Please help!

Problems installing Office 2007 Ultimate

Posted: 23 Jan 2008 09:26 PM PST

I may have spoken too soon. Perhaps the list tool cleaned enough of it up
that made the 2007 install believe that it wasn't on the system, even though
many of the files were still there. I was able to successfully install
Office 2007 with Spysweeper and Norton turned off. I think the bottom line
problem was with 2003 being there without the list for uninstalling and also
not turning off spyware and anti-virus programs.

Thanks for your help!!!!

How to get rid off ctfmon.exe service?

Posted: 23 Jan 2008 11:18 AM PST

Office 2007 no longer installs this component as it is provided by Windows.
Earlier versions of Office did install it as Office installation was
supported on versions of Windows that did not provide that file. Since
Office 2007 requires Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 SP1 or Windows Vista (all
of these provide ctfmon.exe), it no longer installs that file. Depending
on which features are installed, CTFMON.EXE may be used by Office 2007, but
it does not install the file.

Since it is provided by Windows, I do not believe there is a way to remove
it.

mixed-up product keys

Posted: 23 Jan 2008 08:32 AM PST

I think you have posted some incorrect information here. MJB does not go
onto the internet to post anything. Been used for many years by very
reliable individuals with many different types of firewalls (mine won't
allow any outgoing communication by any program unless I specifically give
it permission since I have security very tight) and there has never been
anyone other than you say that the program is sending the Product keys to
some internet site.

Now, if you have McAfee, that may be your problem. One of the two
AV/Firewall program suites I immediately uninstall from any computer that I
purchase with it installed. Many known issues with both of the programs
(Symantec's Norton is the other) and I have always had problems with McAfee
products either giving false hits or not finding known problem malware.

I am guessing that there is something corrupted in your Office 2003
installation. I would suggest uninstallilng (including deleting the
'\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11' folder), and then install again.
When installing, Office Setup will not replace a file that is already
there even if it has been damaged.

Office won't work after install

Posted: 19 Jan 2008 10:23 PM PST

Ok, my version is a real version. I have this same copy installed on my
laptop no problem. As for some further experimentation I created a new user
on my computer as an administrator and it works fine. Only it won't work on
my user that i've had since I bought this computer. I'd really like to avoid
having to completely remake a user and deal with custom settings. Obviously,
the problem here is not with word, but somehow with my user accounts and
something there in. Please remember I'm not running Vista, I have XP.

Also, which 2007 Office system product do you have? Some are distributed
on DVD disks not CDROM disks. If your drive is not a DVD drive, and the
disk is a DVD, then you won't be able to use it.

novice and I infer he has little on there of importance at this point.

Linux offers both possibilities.
It is important in my view to maintain a balance
between these two aspects of the system.

So while there should be clear instructions on how to use Linux,
it is just as important to maintain access to the underlying mechanism,
for those who want to look deeper into how things work.

The alternative is a kind of priesthood who know how everything works,
but only tell the ordinary user as much as the priesthood
think they need to know.
Like Microsoft, in fact.

how to check status of mirror handled by BIOS?

In comp.os.linux.setup Magnate <here>:

Iirc "dell 2950" sounds like a 19" rack server, so I guess it is
a real hw raid controller. 'lspci' should tell more, usually Dell
provides software for online checking. Some driver in addition
log faults to the kernel, though not all.

Checking which controller/driver is used and trying to find the
app to check/configure it sounds like the best idea.

What do people use to access the machine via the agetty running
on the serial port? Normally people would assume one device, but
there are some variables... so I'm just curious.

With regards to the stty change... my guess is that's happening
due to settings someone has for their particular login (??).
Again... just a guess (see another guess below)...

So it always changes on reboot? Hmmmm... not sure.
Maybe BIOS defaults, maybe BIOS does see something attached to
the serial port and does something (some of the time)??

Might just have to put something in a startup file.... maybe
in a system wide login/logout profile to set this. My guess
is that perhaps the value depends on how the serial device
connects to the system... but again, it's just a guess.

For example a serial device that is more or less physically
bounced attached to the serial port might confuse some things.

Distro with mail server?

Congradulations. You just installed software that will allow
you to send and receive and forward and filter mail (a gross
simplification of the functions of a mail server) for 10,000
people located all over the world.

When all you want to do is send mail from one computer located in
your own home to one mailserver located at your ISP.

Which can be done with a simple bash script.

Obviously, it is up to that simple task. But it is a
highly-complex piece of software, and you are not a professional
mail administrator. And if something goes wrong you may well
find yourself spending a hundred hours trying to find out how to
fix it. Not even understanding the basics of the SMTP protocol,
you will find the docs, and advice from the pros, mostly
incomprehensible.

That's why there are what are called "sendmail emulators". These
are highly-simplified mail servers that do one thing: They send
mail to a real mailserver. They are very easy to configure and
use and take up almost nothing in the way of system resources.
They are bulletproof and just work.

They are incorporated in mail suites such as the one that
comes with mozilla, and kmail, etc.

The two I hear about most often are msmtp and esmtp. I use
msmtp.

Using ctrl-alt-F# keys crashes KDE and X.

Posted: 09 Mar 2008 07:58 PM PDT

OK I reproduced it without KDE, so it is not KDE's fault!

I basically loaded up GKrellM2 (doesn't matter if it uses defaults or
customized) with gkrellm-hdplop plugin running only on ONE virtual
desktop in KDE v3.5 or Gnome v2. Then, I switched to another virtual
desktop that didn't have GKrellM on screen.

Then, I pressed ctrl-alt-F# (# is a number like 1) to go back to
console/text mode. It resulted a X crash like:
Backtrace:

If I disable this plugin, then I won't get the crash. This plugin is so
cool to have. I am just wondering if I am the only one with this problem. :(

Thanks in advance. :)
