Formatting in-footnote numbers in Word 2013

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 11:24 AM PST

How do you format the footnote number in a footnote in Word 2013? To be clear: I am referring to the number that appears immediately before the footnote text at the bottom of the page, NOT the footnote reference number in the main text. I assume there's a style for it, but I can't find it. Searching this site and the MS knowledge base wasn't very helpful either - too many irrelevant entries to sift through.

Thanks in advance!

Edit:

After poking around a bit more, I've noticed that BOTH sets of numbers seem to use the same style. :( However, in my document - based on someone else's template, I'm a translator and have no choice - if I go to edit that style the font size and several other things are blank. AFAIK that means there are several different ones in use? And visually the reference numbers in the footnotes seem to be smaller than the numbers in the main text (too small, that's why I want to change it).

Word/Outlook

I used word (365) to create a document. I password protected the documented from being edited/modified by receiving end user.

I sent mentioned document as an attachment using outlook.com to my client and cc a copy to a personal email. Using my phone I was able to edit

the mentioned document with ease. I was not prevented from editing, nor required to type in a password. I called micosoft support (866) 425-4816 & (800) 642-7676 but the customer reps gave me the run around. One said it was a office 365 problem. the other said it was a outlook web problem.

Win 2010/Word 2010 fonts

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 10:17 AM PST

Hello:

I have reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate, and my Office 2010 Home and Student (the latter from an MS page). Now, I am missing a lot of fonts that I had before. I have no memory of downloading and installing non-standard fonts before, but if Idid, they wer free and probably provided by MS.

I have seen this discussed a lot, without resolve, and when I chatted with an MS rep, this person had no idea how to resolve this.

There must be an explanation. Where is, for instance Rockwell Extra Bold?

Kindly, anyone, please.

MS Word 2010 freezes up when resizing margins

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 10:13 AM PST

When I open MS Word 2010, I can type fine.  However, if I try to resize the margins, the program freezes up.  It doesn't matter how long you give it to unfreeze, it remains frozen.  It doesn't matter if you type something into the document or not.  As soon as you try to go to narrow margins, the program goes "Not Responding" and that's it.

word 2013 margin error

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 07:24 AM PST

Hello

I have a document that has customized margins that show properly when I view my document with the "two-page view", but not in the "one-page view". The pages of the document are cut off and I see on the left that the ruler isn't the entire length of the page (I'm using normal printer page length 8.5x11). I saved my document to a pdf and it saved fine, and again it shows fine in the "two-page view". I've tried rebooting my computer in case there was a bug, but the problem still exists.

I've tried resetting margins, changing the margins, splitting the pages, everything. LEt me know what can be done!

Thanks :)

Mail Merge - Asking me to "Select Table" twice (second time blank)

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 07:03 AM PST

I have created a mail merge template in Word and am experiencing a strange problem that I can't figure out. Here is what I have done and what is happening:

- I have copied another mail merge template and modified it slightly for the particular scenario I am currently using it for.

- I click "Start Mail Merge" > "Letters"

- I then go "Select Recipients" > "Use Existing List"

- I select my Excel document that I am using as a data source (It is xlsm as there are some macros in use)

- "Select Table" pops up. I choose the Worksheet that I want to use and click "OK"

- "Select Table" reappears, this time pointing to a file that does not exist and the table list is blank. My only option is to click Cancel and I lose the recipient list from the first "Select Table"

I've run a few tests and none of these have worked:

- Moved the files (Word doc and Excel workbook) to a different computer and tested. It then points to another, seemingly random, non-existent file in the second "Select Table" box

- Moved the files (Word doc and Excel workbook) to a different location on my computer - again points to yet another, seemingly random, non-existent file

- Tried removing password protection on the Excel file - no effect

- Tried connecting the Word document to a different Excel file - works fine. This other Excel file was created completely separately from the one I want to use, but does include the exact same macros.

This leads me to believe that it is not the Word document, but the Excel file itself that is the problem, the only thing is, I don't know why. The Excel file is in a shared location on the network and others have used it, so I thought maybe these non-existent files are actually real files on someone else's computer, but the Excel file doesn't have any connections to other workbooks.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sometimes deletes what I type, or moves the cursor around

Posted: 22 Dec 2014 06:16 AM PST

When I am typing, my computer will delete part (or sometimes all) of what I've typed.  Also, the cursor will also move around, which also causes problems.  I'll often get a pop-up out of nowhere as well.  It does this with Word and with Outlook 2013 emails as well.  I had originally thought I needed to disable the mouse pad on the laptop, as it was suggested that the heel of my hand was hitting it without my realizing it.  While that is possible, I've watched for it when typing, and I do not think this is causing my problem.  However, I would still like to disable it, as I use an external mouse.  The reply I found here apparently is for Outlook 2010, and I have Outlook 2013 and Windows 8.  How do I disable the mouse pad on the laptop in Windows 8?

I think perhaps I am accidentally hitting a key or keys that are shortcut keys, and that is causing my problem.  I type pretty fast, so I'm sure I may be hitting a key I do not intend to hit.  I also am thinking that my putting pressure on the part of the laptop next to the mouse pad portion, and then hitting a key, may be causing a problem.  But those are just guesses.

FYI, this 'cursor jumping around' issue has occurred four times just in my trying to type this message.  It's very frustrating.  And even more frustrating when I'm close to the end of a long message and the thing deletes my entire message!

Any suggestions?  I'm not good with computers, so I'll only attempt pretty basic steps.  For example, I'll try the menus.  But I won't do a clean reboot or do anything with the command prompt.  I'll end up screwing something up worse!  Otherwise, I'll have to take it to a computer repair shop.

Is there any way to prevent a Word 2010 picture or drawing from printing temporarily?

Posted: 21 Dec 2014 08:54 PM PST

Many publishing programs allow the user to toggle the properties of individual objects in the document.  We are looking for a way to temporarily toggle the SHOW/HIDE or PRINT/DON'T PRINT attributes of individual photos or drawings in a Word 2010 document.  Is this possible?

Just one example for this feature would be when creating a form letter or template that included a letterhead graphic.  When printing to paper stock with a preprinted logo or letterhead, the user could simply turn OFF the printing attribute for the graphic.  On the other hand, when printing to blank paper stock, the user could simply turn ON the print attribute so that the logo or letterhead graphic would print on the blank stock.

Thank you for any help.

Help in typing Mangal fonts

Posted: 21 Dec 2014 08:17 PM PST

Hello, Though I am well versed in Mangal typing but still has got a major problem…I want to write परमेश्वर like this, but when I converts Mangal fonts in Arial Unicode MS goes in the legs of half and becomes one word which is not accepted in Christian Hindi literature circle, like wise there are many other words with "Sh" Consonant like शाश्वत and then many other, I want all separate consonants to be typed in Arial Unicode MS. Could anyone please let me know the formula for doing that. I am using window 7 professional. If this does not work in Mangal then could anyone please help me in getting some another Hindi Unicode font that would help me to write the way I want without the combination of consonants. I am trying to bring this in the notice of Microsoft to get success hence have come to you…

Word 2013 Spell Check feature problem (no autocorrect line)

Posted: 21 Dec 2014 05:14 PM PST

Hello.

I recently successfully installed Office 2013 (all the programs are functional) but I am having problems with the spell check feature in Word 2013.

When I mistype a word like this 'appple', no red squiggly autocorrect line appears to offer possible suggestions to correct the word to 'apple'.

I've checked the proofing settings, they are : English (US) and the 'do not check spelling box' is unchecked.

I've also looked through the 'proofing' screen options and adjusted them but to no effect. No red line appeared.

Are there other corrective options I could try?

The interesting thing is that when I go to the 'custom dictionary' screen, the path location of the default dictionary leads to a temporary location rather than the  location where the Office files were installed.

Also, could there be a Office 2013 component (file, etc.), that is missing from the Office 2013 installation?

Wordpad

Posted: 21 Dec 2014 04:10 PM PST

I'm real new to this so I'm not even sure I'm in the right spot, but here's my question.  I have Windows 8.1.  I found a Wordpad program that was free from Microsoft, so I downloaded it, since I couldn't afford Office.  I'm quite familiar with how word pad works, but this one doesn't seem to let me change the line spacing.  I guess I shouldn't say that...it does let me change it, but it's not making the space small enough.  The smallest space it gives me is 1.0, which leaves a

space big enough for another whole sentence line, like this.  It doesn't let me go any smaller.  It's very frustrating when I'm trying to type a letter to someone and it has a huge space like this.  Can someone please help me?  Thank you very much for your time.  And I apologize if this question is not in the right place.

Create a collapse/expand connection between two paragraphs in Word.

Posted: 21 Dec 2014 03:34 PM PST

Hello,

How do you create a collapse/expand connection between two paragraphs in Word (2013)?

On occasion, I have seen Word documents which include the ability for collapsing or expanding certain paragraphs with a single click of the mouse. In these cases, a small triangle is present (just to the left of the "parent" paragraph) which when clicked, collapses or expands (hides or unhides) some number of "child" paragraphs below the paragraph with the triangle.

In the uncollapsed state, the triangle is gray, points down and to the right, and is only visible when mousing over its corresponding paragraph. In the collapsed state however, the triangle is white (ie only its edges are visible), points directly to the right, and is always visible.

How do you create a collapse/expand (parent/child) connection between two or more paragraphs?

Is the connection in any way dependent of the styles assigned to parent & child? In other words, must both paragraphs be the same style or can there styles differ or does it not matter?

How do you designate the number of "child" paragraphs to collapse below a given "parent" paragraph?

Thanks

I don't know what shrink means. Defragmenting the drive should make it as

limits the size of the windows partition and leaves the rest untouched
instead of declaring it a linux partition. The installer then finds the unused
disk space and installs on that.

Bootable grub CD gives no menu

Darren Salt <demon.cu.invalid> wrote:

The same. The hack just deleted the error returned from a BIOS call.

After reading some of the code, I see that it tries by default to check
the geometry of the CD using the BIOS INT-13 function 4B01 (AH=4B AL=01),
and if an error code is returned, then grub assumes that the CD is not
available. As it happens, return code 01 means that the command isn't
implemented. A little experimenting showed that 4B00 returned 00, for
example. This pdf doc describes those BIOS calls:

http://www.phoenix.com/NR/rdonlyres/98D3219C-9CC9-4DF5-B496-A286D893E36A/0/specscdrom.pdf

This check is nonsensical for a bootable Grub CD, since the CD had to be
available to boot Grub, but that code block seems to be there due to
commonality with the Grub that installs on the HD. Grub might be booted
from a hard disk, then be used to boot a CD if the BIOS isn't able to
boot CDs, as with very early PCs, so there's a check using an "extended"
BIOS call to see if the CD is there.

I've no idea how widely implemented the 4B01 function is. It's not
mentioned in the INT-13 Wikipedia page. Maybe it *is* common now and
there *is* an unusual bug in my laptop's BIOS to stop it working.

Project Performance Indicator

Posted: 14 Dec 2005 02:44 PM PST

Are you not trying to go to a lot of trouble to invent something which is:
time consuming
possibly counter-productive
maybe pointless and meaningless and uninformative
already invented better and already built in to MSP provided you set it up
properly in the first place

You need to define what "performance" actually is.
You need to define what "success" is.

Since the "status" of a project at any given point in time during execution
is likely to be a mixture of things which are "over/under/on schedule", and
"over/under/on budget" it is pointless trying to boil down the whole picture
to one number or colour indicator. How serious the status any of the parts
of the project are, and whether they are cause for joy or concern or
correction, and what form the correction should take, are matters for
assessment of the specific cirstances which include which Tasks are
involved and what point of time is being considered. This is the essence of
ysis.
For example, non-critical Tasks which are starting and/or finishing "late"
(ie later than scheduled) but well within their float, are nothing much to
be comcerned about.
In this game, even a simple word such as "late" requires qualification.

CPI and SPI come close to being valid, meaningful indicators by themselves.
Your invention of adding them together, and your arbitrary 10% variance, are
creative but how do they help?

any duration that was entered in something other than days will stay
with that unit of measurement. An exception is for Summary lines. Like
the Work field, the unit of measurement will immediately change to
whatever is set in the options.

However, you can globally change existing duration measurement units by
using the Format_Duration utility. To run it, go to Tools/Macro/Macros

Project File Size is HUGE suddenly

Hadi,
Just how big are your files both in terms of task lines and storage
size? Also, do you have any imbedded graphics?

If you used the methods described in our MVP FAQ 43, then maybe that is
simply how big your files should be. However, if your files are really
big, I mean really really big for the number of tasks and nothing else
has helped, a VBA solution could do the trick. It could basically read
the necessary data from each existing file and re-create fresh new files
(it's kind of like copying to Excel or Access but I wouldn't trust that
a simple copy would capture all the Project data). That's basically what
should have happened with the "save to database and re-open with
Project" approach but maybe some "baggage" is still retained.

Need Help with High Level View Resource Template

Posted: 13 Dec 2005 11:41 AM PST

Hi,

Really similar is not possible.
You can come closer in the task usage view (I misread your question thinking
you needed it by resource)
Hope this helps,

Multiple delpoyment schedule help needed for large project

It sounds like you need to have a Summary Task for each area and within each
area "Sub-Summary Task". You also need to make logic ties between the areas
but I don't suggest making logic ties to the Summary Task. Here is an example
of what I see:
AREA 1 - FIRST DEPLOYMENT (Summary Task)
DISCIPLINE WORK (Sub-Summary)
ID 1 -
ID 2 -
MOCK TESTING 1st DEPLOYMENT (Sub-Summary)
ID 100 - XX (successor ID 200)

(Repeat For 2nd Deployment)

AREA 2 - PROGRAMING (Summary Task)
INCREMENT 1 (Sub-Summary)
ID 200 - XX
You would continue this through out the entire project making the logic ties
you talked about. It's like eating an elephant. Good Luck.

How do I link tasks so that when i level there is no gap in tim?

Posted: 12 Dec 2005 11:14 AM PST

Hi Craig,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I would advise against scheduelling from the finish, as every task will
finish as late as possible and thus everything becomes critical and you lose
any flexibility that Project could give you. Schedule from the start and
create a deadline task based on the latest date the job can finish. When
you level, you will then see the amount of time you have to play with. If
it's going to be late on the deadline, at least you will be aware of it and
do something (like overtime) to bring forward the finish to within the
deadline. Let Project do the scheduelling to see what's possible with your
inputs. You can then adjust to meet your target.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

This is a known bug in Project 2003 Standard.
You can download and apply SP1 or SP2.

Microsoft CRM - CRm and map point

CRm and map point

Posted: 02 Aug 2005 01:48 PM PDT

Yes you can integrate CRM with mappoint. here is an article to get you
started

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnmbscrm1_2/html/mbs_crmmappointintegration.asp

there are many tools available for data import into crm starting with
www.scribesoft.com

Lastly Microsoft stores all data on a central database and has a security
model meaning that if necessary you could stop salesman A seeing salesmans B
data

Contract Template

Hi John,

Thank you for the detailed response. I am sorry for not being more specific
in my question. As I know how to change the actual contract creation, I was
looking for how to change the contract template in Settings>Template
Manager>Contract Templates. When I click "New Contract Template" there also
is a Response Level Filed, independent of the on under the Service Tab >
Contracts "New Contract." Is there any way to change that Response Level
field?

Once again, thank you in advance.

slugs are not officially supported by Microsoft. I believe it was becuase
there was not enough time to test the features out. Becuase of this there is
no doentation on slugs availabe, simply the postings on these newsgroups
which you can see on groups.google.com

I believe there is an articles on partnersource that says direct sql updates
are not supported but of course you would need access to partnersource to
get it so its not publicly available

Kathy, if you are going to be doing quotes with more than 1 or 2 line
items, check out our Quick Quote add-on. It helps you build multi-line
item quotes & orders much faster. Quick Quote also includes Proposal
Publisher which outputs a nice looking quote (with logo!).

KB Search in Service

I understand about the 15 minute delay for the searching, however, I have
tried it once again within Service and still I cannot find the article. It
seems strange that when I search within the KB contained within "Workplace"
for the same article I can get the article back but not in "Service". Surely
the search in the "Service" section of CRM is exactly the same as the
"Workplace" search??? Any other ideas?

CRM 1.2 Network Bandwidth usage

Posted: 28 Jul 2005 04:50 AM PDT

It's also perfectly possible to run the web browser client over a standard
internet connection, as CRM is ultimately just another web application. All
you need is:

- Public IP address that is mapped to the CRM server
- SSL (strictly not necessary, but I wouldn't want the traffic unencrypted)
- Browser that supports Windows Authentication (i.e. Internet Explorer)

Promoting Email to CRM problems URGENT!

When u promote a Email to CRM email and link it with the specific lead (with
the 'regarding' field) then the email is related with the lead, but since the
emails has alreday been received so it is appears as closed activity. This
is as per the CRM design.
