Which FS for RAID5 array?

Nice write-up, personally tossed reiserfs ages ago, data loss/fs
loss was included with reiserfs, never used any other fs on Linux
that sucked that deeply.;( Simply don't trust it an inch, even if
version 4 might be more reliable, which shouldn't be that
difficult. ;-)

JFS, at least the versions coming with RHEL 3 hasn't proven to be
stable on large arrays (2 TB). The only Linux fs I had zero
problems, on a large amount of systems are *ext2/3* and *xfs*.

Would be great to have something like AdvFS (Tru64) on Linux, it
has a bunch of features you won't find on any Linux fs, with OS
version >4.0 F haven't seen the worst that can happen "AdvFS
domain panic" any more...

Sure many might disagree with me, but they should ask themselves,
on how many systems did they make there experience?

Can I change gtk's open location file completion behavior?

No such thing exists. The whole reason for my question is that
there is no location bar showing in the newer GTK dialog. (Note,
I'm not talking about the web browser's URL bar, but about the
file dialog that lets you pick a file to upload when the HTML
page has a <INPUT TYPE="FILE"...> tag on it. In past versions
of Firefox, Firefox had a built-in file dialog for that, but now
it uses GTK's generic file-open dialog, which wouldn't bother me
if GTK's dialog box hadn't broken the ability to type a directory
path manually.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing here.

Hi Carlos

Yes you can install SQL Server 2000 on the same box as Microsoft CRM 1.2.
And yes Native mode AD is not optional!

Invalid Column Name Error

Posted: 22 Sep 2004 03:07 PM PDT

Restarting had no effect. I have published numerous times but when I look in
the Account table in SQL Server, only one of the 5 fields I added in CRM are
there. I guess that's why it says its an "invalid column name". I surmise
that CRM thinks the field is there but it is not being published correctly to
SQL?? Does this help?

It can't be that hard to get this working properly with such a small user
base. It does not make any sence that another user on our network does not
experience the same slow down that I do. This was working like a charm until
I formatted my machine, re-installed XP SP2 and Office 2003. The only
difference is SP2 and Office 2003. We need to find a common link here!

Crystal Reports for CRM are not available through an https:// connection

Solution Accelerator for Proposals

Posted: 22 Sep 2004 06:39 AM PDT

Erik: I believe that I heard that this was scheduled for release in October,
but I am not certain. I can't find anything about it. On TechNet there's a
Solution Accelerator for Proposals from November 2003. It mentions the
concept of pulling in customer data from a (genereic) CRM system. I would
guess once the MS CRM piece is available, this is where it would be. Maybe
someone from Microsoft has further info on an approximate date of
availability.

Protecting fields from owner deletion

Posted: 22 Sep 2004 06:15 AM PDT

I have similar GAPs that were filled by mapping the
information to an opportunity field that is not displayed
on the form. You could also map to a displayed field...

Also, if I need an audit trail for picklist field changes,
I trigger an onchange event to write the picklist value
and date\time to a memo field not viewable to the users.
It is a very clunky workaround, and one that I'm hoping
CRM 2.0 will make obsolete.

Good luck!

Contacts Tab

Posted: 22 Sep 2004 03:50 AM PDT

You want to Edit Associated View for the Contact object. Go to the System
Customization, choose Contacts and on the left menu is "Edit Associated View"
where you can add or remove columns.

While that procedure will bsically work, you need to first disable the
replication and then afterwards re-enable it. The steps for this are outlined
in the Implementation Guide section on disaster recovery.

mscrm user groups in New England

Posted: 21 Sep 2004 02:36 PM PDT

Hi John,
Thanks for the input. To describe our 10 months of MSCRM would be
touch in one post.

Most of our problems are with the SFO client. It has caused quite alot
of head aches on our end.

The reason why I am asking about the users group is that my IT
department is having to become more versed in CRM that originally
expected.

My thought was that if we participated in some live forum we could
getting a better education of the product that having to do it by
trial and error. As my organization grows the need for CRM to provide
business automation will grow. So getting smarter on the product will
help provide better guideance in supporting new user reqirements.

Any suggestions?

Andrew

Error Message 0x8000FFFF

Posted: 21 Sep 2004 06:32 AM PDT

Hi Bryon

I got this same error before, it would work only after a while !!!

Here what u must do ,
If you have installed Microsoft CRM on the same server as Microsoft SQL
Server, it's possible that the Microsoft CRM Security Service will fail to
start. To fix this problem, you need to make the Microsoft CRM Security
Service wait for SQL Server to start before the service attempts to start
itself.
To do so, you need to register the Microsoft CRM Security Service and make
it dependent on the SQL Server Service (MSSQLSERVER).

Here's how:
Log on to your Microsoft CRM server as a domain administrator.
Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cmd. Then press ENTER.
Type cd Program Files\Microsoft CRM\server\bin, and then press ENTER.
Type CrmSecurityService â€"r â€"s, and then press ENTER.
After completing the previous steps, follow these steps to restart the
Microsoft CRM Security Service:
Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Services.
Under Services, right-click Microsoft CRM Security Service, and then click
Start.

This should work, otherws gotto your event viewer in control panel and paste
the error msg wid details here again

Adding Users gives Access Denied: You do not have sufficient Rights

This community does not help itself much. The CRM implementation guide
is wrong chapter 12 implies using local system accounts for the CRM
services however when I changed them back to use the domain admin
accounts all was right with the world.

This also solves the silly soap 80070005 error you get adding users
using the deployment manager.

MS's server UI's and docs has taken a definite dive in recent years as
they push the envelope and the succy internet disrespect for user
experience takes hold.

Where is default value for picklist stored?

Posted: 20 Sep 2004 03:25 PM PDT

They actually are stored in the system, but not in an easy place to read
them from.

If you use the CRMCustomization.RetrieveOrganizationUIByOrgId method, you
can get to them. Using ILDASM you can see the parameters expected. You'll
get back the XML the Form Editor creates and in the FieldXml you'll find the
properties XML with all the picklist values in it. In the node with these
values you'll find the default value of each picklist.

Hope this helps!
