How keep a Normal Text period bolded in the Math Zone?

Posted: 06 Oct 2013 11:39 AM PDT

There's a standard logical operator that the math zone doesn't provide. It's the conjunctive period (meaning "and") with equal space on either side. It should be bold, and in the Cambria Math font the period is square, which is very suitable, especially when bold.

I made a macro that breaks out to Normal Text in the math zone, turns on bold, types the period, toggles off bold, and leaves Normal Text. It works as I record it, but when the macro is played later, 2 things happen: (1) the bold attribute disappears, and (2) the math zone treats the period as needing space to the right.

(2) can be handled, since as an operator it ought to be spaced on both sides, and it's easy to incorporate different fixed spaces to balance the spacing of the period. But how can (1) the bold attribute be retained?

The math zone is constructed so that bolding can't be turned on except in Normal Text. That's fine. Bolding in Normal Text is retained for other characters, but not for the period (and its logical synonym, the ampersand). What can be the workaround? There must be a way to consolidate the following keystrokes in the math zone:
  • Normal Text on
  • space
  • bold on
  • .
  • bold off
  • space
  • Normal Text off

Save .docx as .doc Problem

Posted: 06 Oct 2013 06:37 AM PDT

I developed a document in Word 2010 and saved it as a .docx file - 257Kb in size.  I then saved it as a .doc file - the size increased to 3,237 Kb.  The file contains a few pages of text, with the vast majority being a table for data collection.  Is there a way to save the .docx version as a .doc file, while maintaining the same size file?

Security Alert - Office File Validation (received after accepting changes in document)

Posted: 06 Oct 2013 01:40 AM PDT

I'm having an odd problem and hoping someone can help.

I'm running Word 2007 on Windows 8. I was using track changes while editing a lengthy document. Once I finished editing, I saved a copy of the document and did an Accept > Accept All Changes in Document. I saved the file in Compatibility Mode (Word 97-2003) which was the original format.

When I went to open the file (still on my machine) I received the following security alert:

Microsoft Office Security Notice

Security Alert - Office File Validation

Warning: Office file validation detected a problem while trying to open this file.

Opening this is probably dangerous, and may allow a malicious user to take over your computer.

This ONLY happened when I accepted all changes. If I saved a copy without accepting all of the changes, I did not get the security alert. Through trial and error, I discovered that it was one deletion in particular that was causing the problem. As long as I did not accept that one particular change, I could accept every other change in the document and it would open without the alert.

Does anyone know what might be behind this? Is there really something in the file that is dangerous? I'm at the point where I'm scared to send any Word documents to clients and coworkers in case they really are dangerous/something on my computer is making them unsafe. So far, the issue only seems to affect this one file but, unfortunately, it's a file I do need to send out at some point.

(I did scan the file with my AV program and it didn't find any issues)

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.

Microsoft 2007 "Word" : Sending File as an Attachment directly while working on it.

I'm unable to get the option of sending the file as an "word" attachment. This is kind of strange as I get all other options like email as "PDF/XPS attachment/email recipient as txt".

However-- I want to email as a "word attachment" .
I tried to explore all options but so far have been unlucky.

I can't see the image I pasted onto Word 2010?

Posted: 05 Oct 2013 09:32 PM PDT

The other day I copied a Google Image and was going to paste it onto Word 2010, but when I did, it showed a blank image. Like, you can still press on the image but it's a small box but with all of the image's settings. I tried Googling solutions to this problem, but all of them says to make sure the picture placeholder is unchecked and the other setting is checked. Thing is, those were my default settings. When I called Microsoft Customer Service, they said something about Premium Support for $99. That's way off, because I purchased a family pack Office Suite for the same price. I've already tried uninstalling the entire Office suite, but it gives the same results. Any solutions?

Cannot change default font setting in 2010 Word

Posted: 05 Oct 2013 03:30 PM PDT

I am not on a network.  I have a home computer.  I don't see any solution that is listed to correct the problem I have in not re-setting the default which is programmed into Word 2010.  It opens as Calbri, font size 11.  This cannot be changed.  I am the administrator of my user account.  When I make the changes necessary and choose default for all documents it will not save except in a separate document to the desktop.  Which means I cannot use the original Word 2010 document.  I have to use the saved document.   This is not right.

I don't know anything about add-ons, so I can't do anything about them.

I had to have my original user account removed and am using a new user account.  The old documents already saved open up correctly.  I do not know what I did in the original user account to Word 2010 to make these changes default.

Please advise!

Office 2013 Home and Student (Word 2013) opening DOCX, missing pages

Posted: 05 Oct 2013 03:23 PM PDT

Hi,

I have a legit Office 2010 at my office and purchased Office 2013 on my laptop at home.
I have written many docx files on my office computer. I came back home and when I opened the file, pages were missing!

I tried to talk to the tech support of MS but they were suggesting me to purchase this technical support plan for $100.

When I open this file on Office 2013, on the top it says [Compatibility Mode].
I remotely connected to my PC at work and checked if that file is opening correctly. which it did.

It looks like it's a bug for Office 2013.

I need some help with this desperately.

Spacing in a list

Posted: 05 Oct 2013 03:22 PM PDT

When I create a list, I usually use either 1.25 or 1.5 line spacing.  Most of the time, the spacing holds when I add a new item, but sometimes it reverts to single spacing for no apparent reason.  I didn't change the settings, so what would cause this to happen (besides an unseen malevolent force in the Universe)?

I'm pretty sure that the problem is not in the office as they get the

The Australian office is using the usual POP3/SMTP arrangement. I'm

Updating RHEL

Scott wrote:

Another poster has suggested two web sites (that I have not examined)
where you could get updates. However, in my experience, updates come out
rather frequently, say every week, because Red Hat do not wait to
distribute security updates. And four times since RHEL 3 came out, they
have distributed what I call massive updates (over 100 rpm packages). So
if you do not subscribe to Red Hat's updating service, you will need
constant (daily?) vigilance to be sure you are getting at least the
security updates in a timely fashion. As you can infer, I just got their
latest kernel 5 days ago.

It is a little risky. I would think you would want to use rpm -Fvh; there
is no point installing stuff you are not using. Also, rpm -Uvh (and
possibly -Fvh) will replace your old kernels, and you might better do rpm
-Ivh for the kernels so you will have something to run if the new one does
not install correctly or has a fatal bug in it: not likely, but you never
know.

I am not sure just what happens with rpm if you try to update something
like glibc. That better go just right. With up2date, things just happen
without having to think about them.

How do I make a boot disk so I can restore Grub?

I need it for games, softwares, and drivers that do not work in Linux. :(
Basically, I want to dual boot.

Ahh. OK.

Yikes, that sounds scary.

Are you talking about the blue Grub text menu where it shows two Kernel
2.6.8 options to boot?

Interesting and kind of confusing. Maybe I should paste my grub
configuration. It's 4am and I need to go to bed. Should I get you that
information? :)

Yes, I don't think I have /boot. I did not set up the partitions manually. I
let Debian's installer (Sarge) do that.

Thanks.

Installing Windows 98 on a Winxp/Mandrake 10 Dual boot?

The recommended technique would be to add another hard drive as the first
hard drive, install Windows on that with your Linux hard drive disconnected,
then reconnect the Linux haard drive and use a rescue CD or installation CD
to access it and edit your /etc/fstab, your /etc/lilo.conf or
/etc/grub.conf, and re-set your master boot records.

I really recommend against playing around with re-partitioning your Linux. A
new 40 Gig hard drive is pretty cheap, and protects you against all sorts of
accidents.

Compatability issues between office 2004 and 2008

This could be a few different things but what catches my eye is "running
Tiger OS".

First, you didn't say "Mac OS X 10.4 Server". Are you using a Mac
workstation for file sharing? That's not necessarily wrong but
workstations aren't necessarily configured out-of-the-box to be servers.

By default, Mac OS X 10.4 (workstation) does not have Access Control
Lists (ACLs) enabled. That means it's using the old style Owner, Group
and Everyone for permissions. Mac OS X 10.5 (workstation) uses *only*
ACLs. This could be part of your permissions problem.

Second, Mac OS X Server can be set to not allow ownership of files by
those who create the files. That's a good thing because you want
ownership to belong to one entity (an account on the server) but you
want read or read/write permissions for everyone else. This can be
adjusted on a workstation acting as a server by setting the proper umask
on the shared folder. It's a pain to do if you're not sure what you're
doing.

If you are indeed using a workstation as a Mac then by all means invest
in the server version of Mac OS X. If you have 10 or fewer Macs
connecting then you can get the $499.00 version.

Hope this helps!

I'm confused. This thread was started by Tracey and had similar problems.
Why do you think adding your problem to this thread without giving all
details a way to find an answer?

Mixing problems in the same thread makes it harder for users to search for
an answer.

Add-In Data Toolpak Help

First of all, pull in your horns :-) - "Microsoft" isn't here. This is a
community of users who work with the product just as you do. If you want to
lodge any complaints or rant about the changes you'd be better off using
Help> Send Feedback to put your comments where MS will see them.

Second, it's already been announced that VBA will be restored in the next
version, so the return of add-in convenience should be restored as well.

Third, all the functions used by the previous add-ins are available as
built-in functions which enable the same capabilities - it's just a bit more
work since you don't have the "fill-in-the-blank" dialogs. Also, if you
search the Excel newsgroup on the subject you'll find that there are
alternatives available for many of the missing tools - some of which are
allegedly better than the add-ins :-)

I am assuming that you either have a partnersource or
customersource account to be posting. I am not sure how
public this newsgroup is. So if you do have either
account, just look around in the tech support areas.
Look at the cases and they should answer some questions
you might have. The CRM Exchange Router is installed on
the Microsoft Exchange Server. This links the exchange
server to the MSCRM Server. The email functionality is
then activated and all mscrm users that have exchange
mailboxes will now be able to send and receive email.
However, the CRM Exchange Router is a little tricky. The
system when sending email out adds or tags every email
sent out using the CRM system with a GUID(Globally Unique
Identifier) so that if someone were to reply to the
email, the system knows to send it and log the email as a
MSCRM Email and show within the original senders
Workplace Activities Area. If you have anymore
questions, the articles in the support area in MBS should
answer most of them.

Thanks Matt...but what about the values of the db stored as metadata ?
( for example drop down lists are stored with the indexes and not of
course with the values on screen )

may be i should first make an export using MS CRM statements?

So just have a multi-boot or VPC to allow for multiple installations, if its
a problem. Its no great surprise probably more to do with one instance of
MSDE to replicate with SQL than anything else.

Overall Satisfaction with CRM

Posted: 23 Jun 2004 07:28 AM PDT

Gary,

I would argue that you didn't really have a partner then. Unfortunately, you
probably found one of the many infrastructure firms that were kinda strong armed
into becoming CRM Partners even though they really didn't want to. It does
explain a lot of your frustrations, though many of your issues are truly
problems with the product.

It's those firms that actually give the rest of us a bad name though. There are
plenty of good quality partners out there that will help you out. Of course,
it's tough to weed out those who really don't know what they're doing.

I know my firm would never dream of giving you the disks and walking away. You
having a bad experience would taint out reputation as well as the product's.

I agree that there are limitations to the product and yes, it is a v1.x product.
But, if the functionality meets your needs (and it does for a lot of people),
then it is a good product.

The key is the evaluation. If you just blindly install it (as some have done),
then you are bound to be disappointed in the application. You can't trust the
people who market the product (or any product), you need ot know what you want
before you buy.

Here is why we didn't. Our partner sucked, he handed me the CDs and never
heard from him again. He originally quoted us a hefty fee to inspect our
system and then even more to install it. For a small office, this is
absolutly not feasible or acceptable (especially given the price of the
product alone). Also, its so incredibly important that yout inhouse IT
department goes through the trials of understanding the limitations of CRM.
It dramatically helps when problems arise and especially when writing your
own apps and reports. So to sum up why,......price and the need for the
experience.

when you reply to this CRM email, does the GUID stay in the subject line?
Are you able to see the email in Outlook (does it still have the GUID here?)
What happens if you use the SFO and try to promote an email into CRM, does
that work?
