Two things:
1. You need MINIMUM of 3 drives for RAID-5.
2. Have you tried a 2.4.x kernel? 2.6.5 is pretty raw still.

Can't Install - Kernel Panic

Juergen Heinzl <manannan.org> wrote in
news:manannan.org:

That's a bit odd that it should be complaining
about a scsi device since I don't have one.

I fixed this problem up by going to the RedHat Update
server and got the updated boot.img. After I wrote
the image to floppy and booted from it, the message
did not appear again.

Thank you to all those who replied.

I could not find it in Rpmdrake. So I searched http://rpm.pbone.net for
kscreensaver and it returned results for kdeartwork. So I downloaded the
relevent rpm and installed it but it appears to have done nothing.
So what do you suggest (I happily give more info if you tell me what you
need)?

Thanks

Basic audio setup?

In article <linuxuser.org.uk>,

Ahh... 'dsp' was what I needed. On RedHat, though, all the audio stuff
just is in the root group, amd most devices that need to be generally
accessible just seem to have the world permissions.
Currently there is no 'audio' group. Doesn't seem worth creating one,
as I'm the only user!

Getting the permissions to *remain* set correctly, though, was whole 'nother
screaming session... I think I'll start a separate thread on that topic.

Thanks for the pointer.

another problem: Chinese

For plain text files, Emacs (run under X11) suffices. Make sure your
distro vendor is not trimming away the i18n parts from its binary
packages.

For other programs, your mileage varies according to how well i18nized
those programs are. (e.g. gaim works very well. mozilla also
supports Chinese inputs, in addition to display. Learn about the
"LANG" env. var. Read 'man locale'.) You'll need to install 'xcin' to
type Chinese in these programs.

ejd> OpenOffice.org?

I remember OpenOffice.org did offer versions in a wide variety of
languages, including BOTH traditional and simplified Chinese.

dselect by default will install all the important (or standard, i don't
remember) packages

so just enter dselect, go to select, touch something, exit, then run
apt-get dselect-upgrade (or run install inside dselect) and you will get
a good starting point

How to install Linksys PCMPC100 EtherFast in Fedora?

I am not really familiar with kernel pcmcia modules (just external
pcmcia), but there are at least 3 major versions of PCMPC100. The
original one used pcnet_cs in external pcmcia.

The one cardctl ident shows as "EtherFast 10/100 PC Card (PCMPC100 V2)"
was not even listed in my /etc/pcmcia/config, but sort of works if added
to use pcnet_cs. However, it is erratic at 100baseT speeds (even with
Windows drivers) and works much better forced back to 10baseT (full duplex
works).

The one cardctl ident show as "EtherFast 10/100 PC Card (PCMPC100 V3)"
and label shows as Ver:C4 works with axnet_cs (seems to be artificially
throttled internally to work smoother at 100baseT speeds).

Unless you have an old laptop that cannot accept cardbus cards, a cardbus
pc card (32-bit) would work much better than a 16-bit pc card.

No. You posted to a public newsgroup, I reply to said newsgroup.

My crystal ball appears to be broken so you'll have to help me. What have
you done so far? Does it read CDs? Is the drive jumpered correctly? What
distro and kernel are you running? Are you using ide-scsi? These questions
are in no particular order. Given the lack of information, these are the
first ones that popped into my head. There are many, many more.
