Urgent! Mailbox Store won't load - Help!

Posted: 25 Feb 2007 10:50 AM PST

Ok, I'm trying to restore and I it's not working! I use DataPRotector, and
when I try to restore, I'm getting this error:

[Critical] From: domain.com "Microsoft Exchange Server
(Microsoft Information Store)" Time: 2/25/2007 2:19:12 PM

ESE subsystem or operating system reported error for Database1

0xc7ff1005: Error returned from a callback function call (0x%X).

So I check the Exchange server's application log and I see this:

Information Store (7068) Callback function call
ErrESECBRestoreGetDestination ended with error 0x80070057 One or more
arguments are invalid

Any ideas? This is a 90Gb database with a lot of critical e-mail. Help!

Help - Migrate from Exchange 2003 Ent. to Exhcange 2007 Std.

Posted: 22 Feb 2007 12:21 PM PST

The one trap in this approach is . . . . you must remove the mailboxes from
the all of users while the Ex2003 server is still running, otheriwise the
user properties will still report that their mailboxes are on the Ex2003
server. Then when you view all the users in the Ex2007 managment console
all of the users will still think they are connected to a mailbox in Ex2003,
so you will not be able to create a mailbox for them in Ex2007..

Bottom line, if you wish to purge your domain of the Ex2003 organization,
use whatever tool you want to get the mailboxes exported, then remove the
Ex2003 mailboxes from each user, so they are in need of a mailbox when
viewed from the Ex2007 console.

Moving existing Exchange 2000 Standard Edition to new hardware

Posted: 21 Feb 2007 02:42 PM PST

Mark,

I had looked at the SWINC method as you have suggested. My problem or
concern is that my new hardware is Windows 2003 std edition and not Windows
2000.

Can I still use the method and ignore the fact that I am moving from Windows
2000 to Windows 2003 or should I install Windows 2000, do the move and then
upgrade to Windows 2003?

Thanks for the reply. I have SP2 and filtering, Is there a way of setting the
mail to delete automatically from that account as we do not use it for mail?
My concern is that teh number of mesgae the last time I check was in the
hundreds and unless I stay on it daily I have a lot building up...

Any suggested software or process would be appreciated

Can't send email using IMAP

Posted: 20 Feb 2007 08:32 AM PST

Okay, with OE, go to the properties of the e-mail account. Then select
the Servers tab. Where it says "My server requires authentication" make
sure you check that option. Then click the Setting button. Now you can
try it first by select the "Use same settings as my incoming mail
server" and see if that works, if not, then select the option to "Log on
using" and enter the information, making sure to check the box to
remember password. That should get you going.

If that doesn't work, then there is some misconfiguration at the server
end or the account you're using is locked out.

As for the Treos, I'm guessing its the same reason, but I can't tell you
the steps to get it done, have a BlackBerry :).

Make sure your public IP has a reverse-lookup record in DNS. If it does, and
you're still getting mail rejected, your IP address may be viewed as being a
"dynamic" one, even if it isn't - you will want to use your ISP's SMTP
server as a smarthost for outbound mail to those domains, or to all Internet
domains.

will show you what MS have put it on and it's comparable to what you
mention.

This is the fun thing. People buy EMC because they think it's the best
(it isn't, for what you want it for) and then they fail to put the
resilience in. (preaching to the choir I suppose)

You're by no means screwed. Implement CCR by all means and do it all
on LUNS on the EMC. Down the line you can then see if "they" procure a
new SAN or anything really down at the DR location. Then you can move
the server, replicate the data and be up and running.

Don't go implementing the CCR on DAS because you're just throwing good
money after bad. If I was in IT management there and you asked me for
a shed load of disks after spending half a mil on EMC I would have
some pretty "robust" questions for you and the storage people.

What is a good anti virus for email which has low server hard disk overheads?

Posted: 19 Feb 2007 04:00 AM PST

We don't use their e-mail/Exchange filter, but I can tell you that their
tech support is very good. I've used them several times, mostly in
setting up, but they are very responsive.

As Oliver M said, you need to determine why there is so much drive
access... Do you have "real-time" (Symantec) or "on-access" (Sophos)
turned on? I've found that it is generally a *bad* thing w.r.t
performance. You should only have it turned on for servers/folders where
users have direct access to save/create/store files. It sure should be
turned off for any locations where the datastores or log files are stored...

Hank Arnold
