No, my file associations are fine. Double clicking documents with each of
the file types that I listed above correctly opens the correct Works and
Office applications.

The problem appears to be the inability of works to open a document that has
been handed off as an attachment in Internet Temporary Files, even though
Works can open the file in that IE5 directory if I double click on it
directly. (NB: the Ie5 files can be listed in explorer by opening Disk
CleanUp and then using the list files button against the Internet Temps.)

This is clearly a bug or an inappropriate Microsoft disabling of a standard
windows caability used by every other application. It is absurd that Works
users need to subject the recipients of their attachments to false error
messages and the inability to open those attachments, and then have to learn
and subject them to various workarounds.

Can Works 9 with Windows 7 64 bit OS open .doc files?

Being an attachment can make a difference.

Is he using the Hotmail web interface? If so, there should be an option
download or save the attachment. The try opening the saved file.

Office 2010 is not compatible Wih Works 9

Posted: 04 Mar 2010 03:51 AM PST

Office 2010 wont work with works9 because it will replace it completely once
it is finnished.

There will be no works "10" . Version 9 was the last works app ever ( and 9
was released only because of Vista compatibility reasons - version 8 and 8.5
have issues with vista ) .

Office 2010 comes as a "starter edition", excel and word with limited
functionality. That is your replacement application for the future. OEMs can
preinstall it for free. I personally ecpect it on retail or as a download
where you can later just enter a product key of a higher SKU to unlock the
missing features.

As a matter of fact therefore excel and word wont show up in any works
launcher, cause Office is the launcher..

Microsoft got rid of a lot of apps we all know and love : Encarta, Money..
and now works.

Windows lost half of its features with "7" that were in vista ..
Calendar,Mail,Moviemaker,
Teamwork,Software explorer..

Sometimes having always the latest is not the desired solution . I reverted
to vista and wont stop using works/ word 03 combination.

If you don't believe then google for "office starter edition"

Works 9 Greeting Card Template

Thanks for the suggestion. It just seems like back to the stone age compared
to my old Works, which died with my old computer. The old one also had
options like "shaped text" which the new one apparently doesn't.

There will be a new Works version every so often,
until the sun becomes a red giant, and we shall all vapourise.
