Using a Mac that has a DVD drive, create a disk image of the DVD with

disk image and install Office.

Flash drives are relatively inexpensive these days, and one will likely
be useful to him in the future.

Can't find download

Absolutely not! I just posted a note to Mactopia folks to see if I can find
out anything that will help.

Can you test in a new User to see if it will work with a clean User's
folder?

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Sorry you are having so much trouble.

I'd suggest running MapPoint and/or Internet Explorer under CrossOver
Mac from <http://www.codeweavers.com> or Parallels
<http://www.parallels.com>.

Not only will you have compatibility but you'll also be supported by the
vendor.

Of course, if the system was working fine before the vendor changed then
you can also threaten to move your business to another vendor unless he
continues to support your needs.

Hope this helps!

Hi John:

Please re-post to the Works group. You're in the Office:Macintosh group at
the moment, we have no idea :-)

The PC groups are here:

Office 2003 Pictures not compatible with Office 2008 Mac

Posted: 11 Jul 2008 10:42 AM PDT

If you *did* know where the problem is, then you would know that this is a
known bug in Office 2008. Nothing you do on the PC side is likely to make
much difference, although if you do what Bob suggested, you will have a lot
more success.

Beg to differ. Office 2008 has just as much trouble with 2007 graphics.
You would be spending a lot of money ($500 a seat) for nothing.

Develop Add-ins for Office 2008?

Posted: 10 Jul 2008 02:13 PM PDT

Microsoft has indicated that there may be an SDK offered, at least for Word.
As far as I know, this is being offered directly to ISVs, it is not
available to the general public.

If you want to send me an email with your complete company contact details,
I will pass them on to the product group.

Cheers

loss of word for mac 2004

Well, you're a different poster, so we need you to start your own question
so we get all your system information.

Then, we need a detailed step-by-step description of what you have done so
far.

For example: You say it hangs on "Save As" but not on "Save"? That's a new
issue we will have to track down: we have never seen that before and neither
has Microsoft.

When you say "Hang", what exactly do you mean? Have a look at your disk
stats in Perf Mon. What's happening?

Cheers

Compatability issues between office 2004 and 2008

Posted: 07 Jul 2008 08:14 PM PDT

This could be a few different things but what catches my eye is "running
Tiger OS".

First, you didn't say "Mac OS X 10.4 Server". Are you using a Mac
workstation for file sharing? That's not necessarily wrong but
workstations aren't necessarily configured out-of-the-box to be servers.

By default, Mac OS X 10.4 (workstation) does not have Access Control
Lists (ACLs) enabled. That means it's using the old style Owner, Group
and Everyone for permissions. Mac OS X 10.5 (workstation) uses *only*
ACLs. This could be part of your permissions problem.

Second, Mac OS X Server can be set to not allow ownership of files by
those who create the files. That's a good thing because you want
ownership to belong to one entity (an account on the server) but you
want read or read/write permissions for everyone else. This can be
adjusted on a workstation acting as a server by setting the proper umask
on the shared folder. It's a pain to do if you're not sure what you're
doing.

If you are indeed using a workstation as a Mac then by all means invest
in the server version of Mac OS X. If you have 10 or fewer Macs
connecting then you can get the $499.00 version.

Hope this helps!

I'm confused. This thread was started by Tracey and had similar problems.
Why do you think adding your problem to this thread without giving all
details a way to find an answer?

Mixing problems in the same thread makes it harder for users to search for
an answer.

Add-In Data Toolpak Help

Posted: 04 Jul 2008 04:31 PM PDT

First of all, pull in your horns :-) - "Microsoft" isn't here. This is a
community of users who work with the product just as you do. If you want to
lodge any complaints or rant about the changes you'd be better off using
Help> Send Feedback to put your comments where MS will see them.

Second, it's already been announced that VBA will be restored in the next
version, so the return of add-in convenience should be restored as well.

Third, all the functions used by the previous add-ins are available as
built-in functions which enable the same capabilities - it's just a bit more
work since you don't have the "fill-in-the-blank" dialogs. Also, if you
search the Excel newsgroup on the subject you'll find that there are
alternatives available for many of the missing tools - some of which are
allegedly better than the add-ins :-)
