Office Update SP2

Posted: 23 Oct 2005 01:17 AM PDT

After doing a masterful art of Crossposting "Bill Ridgeway" wrote the following

Most people did not have any issues downloading and installing SP2 for Office 2003. Those that do have to look in to their own backyard for things that are out of place <s>

The only thing that was at fault from MS concerning SP2 was the MU and WU sites that reported that SP2 needs to be installed when it was already done so.

This has been corrected. If you still get this from those sites then go through the motion of installing it again and the issue will stop.

can msocashe folder be deleted? what's its purpose?

Posted: 21 Oct 2005 01:35 PM PDT

I wouldn't remove this folder because it is not uncommon to find that
when you try installing service packs, you are required to have your
original media to complete the update. Office XP was a nightmare on
upgrades especially when you want to put away your original media and
PID from pirates and hackers which most offices have! Uk is the worst
in this respect where you find that CDs go missing over the weekends and
long bank holidays!

Office 2003 SBE EULA

Posted: 18 Oct 2005 07:51 PM PDT

Either a notebook or a Tablet PC qualifies for "portable" but not a second
desktop.

After furious head scratching, AP asked:

| Thank you Bob. I checked the version of Office 2003 SBEs on my
| desktop & notebook and both are OEM versions. That settles it once &
| for all.
|
| However, I found that the Office 2003 that I use at home is a retail
| version, & the onscreen EULA allows me to install Office 2003 on a 2nd
| portable device.
|
| At the moment I have only one desktop PC, which is also used by my
| wife & 2 children. I'm planning to buy a 2nd machine, with minimal
| outlay on software. Does a portable device mean a notebook (as
| opposed to a 2nd destkop)? What else qualifies as a 'portable
| device'? I'm concerned about the ability to activate Office 2003 (on
| the 2nd machine) & receive updates/service packs (on both machines).
|
| Thank you.

XP SBE 2002 PPT missing?

How did you get your PowerPoint in the first place? If it comes with your
computer, you might want to check with the dealer for a restoration CD.

You cannot install, or repair, without the cd
(Nor can you repair / install anything inc o/s without the cd)
If a retail version, contact MS for replacement media
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246
If OEM, ie came with your PC, contact PC supplier
Alternatively if you have household insurance, claim on this

Multiple versions of Office

Posted: 18 Oct 2005 06:22 AM PDT

Hi Thanks for post

yes all sort custs are in their own folder shortcut on desktop.

Will have to get hold of machine from tutor and see what they have done!!

Yes, we run a Distance Lesrning Course of MS Office, and with 1000+
students, have to still cover each version - you would be asmazed at what
prtoblems the students come up with, and its much easier if we can emulate
what they are doing and see what's on screen.

Thanks anyway

PUBLISHER 2000 application does not open

Posted: 16 Oct 2005 01:58 PM PDT

Thx for your reply, Bob--
I am running Microsoft Small Business Office 2000, using only one
login/profile.
Also, Clip art, and anything to do with Publisher are set to run on local
machine.
Unfortunately, running a repair (both within Publisher Application, and with
a new re-install from the CD), does not resolve the problem.
Any other ideas?
