How to import previous MSCRM data after change in AD domain name? Posted: 02 Aug 2004 11:18 AM PDT If your old AD domain exists on another DC, you can use the CRM Redeployment tools to redeploy the CRM DB to the new domain. These tools can be found on MSDN at: MSCRM Redeployment Tools If the old AD domain does not exist, you can contact PSS / CRM Support and they may be able to walk you through a process to pull some of the data out of your old DB and to load it into your new installation in the new domain. CRM has Data Migration Framework tools that can assist here. "Corcel CRM" <com> wrote in message news:com... |
Posted: 02 Aug 2004 08:40 AM PDT Daniel, Take a look at the following blog entry on the topic: http://inside-mscrm.blogspot.com/2004/05/removing-unwanted-attributes.html Matt Parks MVP - Microsoft CRM ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- On Mon, 2 Aug 2004 08:40:33 -0700, "com" <microsoft.com> wrote: it seems impossible to delete a field that has been created with CRM depoyment manager. SQL Server Error whilst creating new attribute Posted: 02 Aug 2004 07:12 AM PDT Paul, The limit you are hitting is actually a SQL limitation. The KB article you found refers to a bug that occurrs when importing schema info in CRM, not actually adding them via Deployment Manager. Basically, SQL will not allow a row to span a page (hence the 8k limit). Problem is, CRM treats the record as if every field is filled to the max (varchars only take up space for the actual data). Many of the fields in the stock app are rather large and take up a lot of that 8k limit. SQL will actually allow you to continue to add columns, but warns you of the problem. It's not an issue until you try to save more than 8k of data. At that point, the update errors out. Once you get to the pint of maxing out, CRM won't allow you to add any more. They opted to prevent an error occuring that would bubble to the end user that would result in lost data. It's kind of a hassle, but that is what's happening. In the Event Log is two related error events: (the first) dmLog: New size of the attribute ({FEC5CEBE-B6F3-4E3C-90E9- B1A1CB2333F5}) exceeds the SQL Server row limit of 8000 bytes. (second) dmLog: Failed to add new String attribute (CFSCL_ACCOUNTS_InvoiceType) to Lead entity. I've googled this error message and found a Microsoft resource page - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=832753 However I don't think the information contained on the page relates specifically to this problem - there is a software update there, but it is for MSCRM v1 rather than v1.2 (which is the version I'm using). But I think that v1.2 should already includes this update. Can anyone shed any light on whats going on here. I presume that the creation of the new attribrute is trying to create one or more new records/fields in the Metabase which SQL Server is unable to do and hence generating the error; does anyone out there know how to work around this? Cheers, Paul. Xchange Group. |
Posted: 02 Aug 2004 04:05 AM PDT You might find this article mildly interesting: http://www.crn.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=23905047&flatPage=true Basically, it talks about how "CRM" is becoming much broader than it was just a few years ago. For instance, we use Microsoft CRM for our helpdesk/customer service, sales & marketing, and reporting, as you mentioned. But, because these tasks encompass 80% of our job functions, it is easy to envision a time when CRM might become more of a portal to everything we do for our customers (both internal and external) that ties everything together in a powerful way. I know that Microsoft wants to integrate more Office into CRM in future releases, and if they could turn the CRM web client email into a full email client, they'd be pretty close to accomplishing that. -- Matt Wittemann "Derek Davidson" wrote: |

Posted: 01 Aug 2004 02:57 AM PDT If you passed the exam using vue or prometric you can call and they will send you confirmation of your result on email. This will give you the required documentation to register your pass. I understand that currently there are delays sending out official MSCRM certifications as a colleague of mine who passed before i did is still awaiting his certificate whereas i have received all of mine already. Generating documents or letters from CRM Posted: 31 Jul 2004 11:57 PM PDT Many thanks for the reply. Its good to hear that there are updates in the pipeline. The good thing seems to be that Microsoft CRM will allow us to do some things that we can't with other products. The downside is that some of the everyday tasks are a little more difficult. The problem seems to be that the assumption is that most communication will be transacted by meetings, email or telephone. In reality it is still different for us and many companies we deal with. I have tried the suggestions you make but we would still need to create some rules to allow all contact transactions to be duplicated to , say, opportunity level. This can be done as you describe but does seem more complex than clicking a button, chosing a template with the rest happening automatically with the minimum number of steps and keeping all the info for the item together in one place to allow efficient reworking of the item when reviewed. I see from the postings that a number of others have raised the same point Hopefully the closer integration and planned modifications will help with this. Microsoft CRM is potentially a very good product but with one or two changes it could be really great. Thanks again for your reply Paul Lisseter -- Paul Lisseter LNL Services - UK "Stephen Redmond" wrote: |

Posted: 30 Jul 2004 07:24 AM PDT Matt, Can you tell me how I disable the SQL joB?
