Request for GAL functionality in OWA

Posted: 23 May 2005 07:35 AM PDT

The standard Outlook client uses MAPI NSPI to provide an easily browsable
GAL. It uses a cursor-based mechanism, which allows you to easily move up
and down the list. OWA doesn't use NSPI, but instead uses LDAP. LDAP is
great for searching and accessing individual objects, but is not so good if
you want to scroll through the GAL.

I agree it would be nice to be able to have the same functionality with OWA
as you have with the Outlook client, but I suspect this is would require
some majore architectural changes. Also, it would require Microsoft to move
another step away from open, Internet standards, something I believe they
will be reluctant to do.

Not possible I'm afraid.
Any reason you want to do this if you have E2K3 and access to RPC over
HTTPS, or just curious?

Do I need smart-host in VS as well as connector?

Posted: 20 May 2005 09:26 AM PDT

Yes I originally entered the smart-host using CEICW. And of coarse as a
result it appears in the SMTP connector properties. I was just wondering
about why there's a similar smart host field in the VS properties also. I
wonder when I WOULD use it, but it's enough to know that it's correct to
leave it blank. Thanks!

POP3 Messages Marked as Read in Outlook

Posted: 20 May 2005 08:17 AM PDT

It is the built in mail app on the Treo 650's. Wouldn't this be a setting on
the exchange server since the mail app is only pulling down the messages?
Thank you for all your help.

have you looked at this:

you're restoring to a new server/same server?

Is there any other event in the event logs that may also point to a
corruption? if the Db is corrupt you may find that you get errors backing up,
unless you use an offline backup method. Have you tried running ISINTEG or
ESEUTIL on your Exchange Db?

Remember though only to perform a hard repair using ESEUTIL as a last resort
as it potentially will delete messages...

Start by making sure that you have the latest Service Pack installed.

I checked firewall and router configs and logs. They have not changed since
this problem started.

If that were the case, is there any reason you can think of for a simple
reboot of the server being the fix?

Remove any reference of non-existing Exchange server in AD

Posted: 16 May 2005 11:54 PM PDT

Hi Lee,
I'm back again after a few days.
/removeorg worked fine as previously written. In fact when I work with
System Manager I see only 1 EXCH server. And that's what I wanted.
The problem is Exch does not start and that's somehow related with my child
domain. If I run same install process on a new domain, Exch starts normally.
I've realized that the only way to get my Exch test server working again in
my child domain is removing ANY reference (of the child domain) on the
parent domain.
So the question is: is there any SECURE and KNOWN way to clean the parent
domain from any reference to my child domain?
Thank you
