are there any other free downloads to try?

Other free to try, $70 to buy suite (only Word processor & spreadsheet)
is the Softmaker suite (http://www.softmaker.com/english/). It will open
both Word and Excel documents with no problems and from what I've found
supports just about all that normal users need to do.

The other nice thing about those two programs (Textmaker & Planmaker)
are that it it ported over to Linux, Pocket PCs and Handheld PCs giving
those with a mixed batch of machines that all work exactly the same.
Being a PPC user as well, I now have a full fledged word processor and
Spreadsheet for my PPC.

InfoPath

Posted: 26 May 2005 06:31 AM PDT

Hi Alex,

To add one bit to Mary's answer, which is in the chart
on the page she linked to but may still be confusing :)

If you have a retail or OEM copy of MS Office 2003 Professional
it does not contain the Infopath app. If you have
the MS Office 2003 Professional Enterprise (volume license
http://microsoft.com/licensing) edition it does have Infopath.

As Mary's 2nd link points out it can be purchased separately.

Thought we'd run up a workflow proof of concept project with InfoPath.
However, it's not on the Office Professional 2003 CD that we have. Have
looked through the change setup in ad and remove programs and it's not
thereso; Where do you get it from?

Cheers <<

Installing offce 97 on windows XP

Posted: 25 May 2005 06:57 AM PDT

I would be interested in others' solutions (as I'm not really happy with
mine but it's quick and works), but here is mine. I got the Autoexec.nt
and Config.nt from a "good machine and copied it into the
C:\windows\system32 directory

I don't know what is causing the problem, but I thin these two files
have something to di with the 16 bit subsystem.

Anyway, I'm not happy with the result, but it works. I, too, would love
to hear other solutions

Convert files

Posted: 23 May 2005 10:13 AM PDT

Hi John,

If I recall correctly the Excel 97 converter
worked on WB2 (Quattro 6) but not v7, while the
Excel 2000 version of the converter did 7 and 8 (WB3)
but not 6. You may want to also post this in the
Excel discussion group (link below) on ways to extract
and use the older Quattro converters, but using Corel
to export the files to Excel or using a 3rd party package
such as Conversions Plus (http://dataviz.com) may be a
more reliable approach.

Hi Gyorgy,
Thanks for your help :-)

Im not sure what you mean about the VLK in the file. I have a valid VLK key
and VLK media cd. Is there a step I am missing? Is there any information you
could pass on to me.

Cheers,

You silly girl. Why do you have to always misunderstand the replies or questions on these newsgroups? Is that bleach affecting your tiny brain?

When people talk about registration they actually mean activation. I have seen many people using the term "to download the software" when they actually mean to "install the software". This is not rocket science to understand this simple fact. Activation is with us and we should all be concerned about whether or not to upgrade the system. Could you stop feeling sorry about Alex Nichol when you don't mean it. He is gone and young people like me should rule the world.

Silly bi*tchy cow!!

Aaron,

I was fooling around on the Microsoft site and found some good URLs for
using the install and maintenance wizards.

Both are available via this one URL

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011513681033.aspx

and if you want to know about rolling in patches to an admin install point:
