[discuss] My prosposal: Usability and the footnote function Posted: 03 Oct 2009 12:07 PM PDT Robert Derman wrote: a) I'd suggest both PDF and ODF formats. The latter so that the user c an add notes, documentation , etc that they (the individual) thinks is necessary/useful. The former, because it can be read regardless of platform, or wehther or not OOo has been installed; b) I'd suggest a copy of all of the documentation that OOoAuthors has produced, for that specific version of OOo. Since that documentation lags behind OOo releases, it might be more useful On Sun, Oct 4, 2009 at 15:54, Gene Young wrote: a) Minor, but significant for the affected population groups: Not all localizations have translated the help file into the local patoise. b) Content is the help file is not applicable to the current version of OOo; c) Functions in OOo are not described in the help file. d) Help files are not indexed by the expected word/phrase. Ideally, every word/phrase.concept found in the help files, and./or documentation for WordPerfect Office, MSO, GnomeOffice, KOffice, Red Office, GoogleOffice, and Symphony will be found in the help file, with a cross reference to the OOo name; jonathon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: org For additional commands, e-mail: org |
Posted: 03 Oct 2009 09:57 AM PDT Actually I'm not sure why I even responded to that, that way...just a stray electron in the brain I suppose. Tabs in OO.o is a wholly different subject. I don't know even where the extension that added the tabs is any longer, and not surprised to hear that it doesn't work with the newer builds. It was my understanding that it was just a proof of concept mini-project anyway. But to tabs themselves - At one point I really thought it was a good idea. - I find that my desire for them is lessened by a window manager that automatically stacks open window titles under a single application button on the task bar. [discuss] OO.o Moving forward ... Posted: 28 Sep 2009 11:35 AM PDT "Lars Nooden" <org> wrote in message news:org I agree with your Lars, and also with Robin. In the beginning I tried to work "within" the system for exactly that purpose. But I think "culture" and syntax got in the way a lot. No matter how hard I searched and looked, my entries always came back as "duplicates" or "already fixed" with neither being the case IMO. And once that happened, getting anyone to re-look at them was fruitless - no matter how well I tried to explain further for clarification and verification. When I finally got a response back that I didn't need to write a book about it, just state the problem, I quit! And I'm still quit. My list of "problems" was meant to be a sampling, also. Even if I did decide to enter them, I wouldn't have time to do so. The system just doesn't work for me. I've given up on it other than to occasionally give my opinions here. There is some e-mail activity, some web page viewing, and other things. Maybe a spread sheet to go with the presentation or word processing document. The way I find useful to manage multiple projects is to make use of the system's virtual desktops and give a desktop to each project. That way I can have as many windows open in as many programs as needed and only the ones related to that project are on the particular desktop. [discuss] Open Office Command Error Posted: 15 Sep 2009 01:59 PM PDT Blessings Jason, Thge Ctl-E cmd is a windows both word and systems cmd. While I've never figured out what the syscmd does exactly I do know in almost any WP it centers the text. While I may be wrong I seem to recall it may be a Ctl - A function.
