Posted: 28 Sep 2004 09:32 AM PDT Hi Kevin, I posted this on the Works Help Site which lists all requests- I did not realise that it would also appear here.It was a fault on their system. It has now been corrected Blair "Kevin James - MSMVP Works" <org> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... |
Posted: 28 Sep 2004 09:25 AM PDT Hi Kevin, Thanks for your help. I looked at the site and took cold feet- I am not comfortable using strange instructions with no clear idea what I am trying to do. However I have added it to my favourites and perhaps will have the courage later! Works suite add-in for Microsoft Word Posted: 28 Sep 2004 02:37 AM PDT Here is a knowledge base article which recommends removing Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word. Hi Nigel, I used Works Suite 2001 for about six months without 'Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word' installed. Via this news group someone provided the following knowledge base article. Works Suite: Word Is Missing from the Task Launcher http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;Q309499 Prior to using the knowledge base article to install Works Suite Add-in I had no problem with either Works or Word. In fact for quick access to Word I had placed a shortcut to the program on my desktop, which I still use today instead of going thru the Task Launcher. Hello I am currently using a piece of software that interacts with Microsoft Word for Mailmerges.I have Microsoft Works 6.0 installed. Within Control Panel | Add or Remove programs there is an item 'Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word'. With this 'works add-in' present my piece of software doesn't work when it isn't present it works fine. Before I remove it: 1. What does this add-in do for Microsoft Word / Works. ie will word word without it? 2. Will this cause any serious problems if it is removed. Ta |
Mail Merge, Filters, and Works 6.0 Posted: 27 Sep 2004 12:44 PM PDT Hi Ken I went back into MS Works Word Processor and found the article by typing "mail merge." As I reread the instructions, I realized the Help meant to check Tools in the Word Processor, not the Database. DUH! I am humbled and thank you for pointing me back to the documentation. Posted: 27 Sep 2004 09:13 AM PDT Windows XP is the operating system. It does NOT include Office, Works or other applications. If you want Office, you need to buy Office. There is an Office XP but it's not related to Windows XP other than that's one of the versions of Windows that it will run on (Office XP runs on Win98 or newer.). The latest version of Office is Office 2003. If you just need Word (not Excel, Outlook, etc.), you can get the Works SUITE which includes Word. The regular Works does not include Word. Some PCs comes with Works and/or Office installed. But that was a decision of the PC manufacturer. They are not part of Windows. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "windows XP" <windows microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com... |
Posted: 27 Sep 2004 06:22 AM PDT Hi Amber, This is a problem were the sender has to know what program the receiver is going to use when opening an attachment. Not all programs open other program files. Or, receiver has not installed converter that opens other program files. For instance, on the menu bar of Works Word processor click File, then click Save As, click the down arrow for Save as type. Notice the various extensions for different programs. I find most if not all Word processor programs can open a file with .rtf (Rich Text Format) extension. You might try saving your document with .rtf extension, then attach that file to the email. works database missing decimal when merging with works word processor document. Posted: 26 Sep 2004 11:05 PM PDT Aldus sprak Ray op 29-9-2004 9:43: The problem is: the program that extracts the data from the wdb file to make a mdb file cannot read the results of formulas, nor the formatting of numerical data. If MS had chosen to extract the data into a csv file (the program for this is in MSWorks already) all would have been well. If you use a flat file like Works does, you could download openoffice.org from www.openoffice.org and use the spreadsheet for your data. These can be merged into its wordprocessor without loss of formatting. Erik. |

Posted: 23 Sep 2004 10:16 PM PDT Huh. Well I'm afraid that taps out my ideas here. You might try sending some email to Works support and having a conversation with them. There is probably something unique about your setup that is causing this, and they can probably work through the details with you. Sorry we couldn't set this straight for you on the NG.
