Unexpected way of deleting Word form

Hello:

I created a word form template, and protected it by clicking Group > Group. I then opened an instance of the template, and placed the cursor at the beginning of the form and clicked Delete to test that the form was protected. Imaging my surprise when the entire form was highlighted, and deleted entirely when I clicked Delete again.

The above does not happen when you click somewhere else first, and then click at the beginning of the file and press Delete. However, it happens every time you click Ctrl+A and then Delete.

Is this normal behavior? I thought that "protected" meant "protected".

How to get popup

I have the opposite problem. I select text, the mini menu show up, but before I can use it, (maybe if I move my mouse out of the selection), it may disappear. How can I get it back without having to reselect?

'VBA-Shading.BackgroundPatternColorIndex' keeps introducing itself into my Word 2003 document somehow so that I have to either save it or undo it. I don't know what it is and as far as I know, I didn't call for it. Is there a keyboard shortcut I pressed by accident, and how do I get it to stop?

Save As folders for Word all pointing to my Documents folder

I click Save As in Word to save a new document and select a Recent Folder.  No matter which Recent Folder I select it continues to load the Save File dialog for my local Documents folder.  It doesn't matter if I'm trying to save to One Drive locations or local folder locations, it always loads the Save File dialog for my local Document folder.  

Additionally, If I open an existing document and click Save As and select a Recent Folder I am always presented with the Save File dialog for the original location of the document.

In both cases I am forced to manually navigate to the location where I desire to save the file.  

The Save As functionality is working correctly for Powerpoint and Excel. 

I also noticed that the mouse cursor is spinning (indicating processing) when not on the Save File dialog while the Save File dialog is open in Word.  In Power Point and Excel the mouse cursor reverts back to it's default state.

Any ideas?

Replacing ^w^p with ^p fails

I'm having the same sort of problem, which I encounter periodically while using Word 2010. This time, I have Track Changes off and and am attempting to do a find and replace of ^w^p to ^p. Find works but replace does nothing. I've tried draft view and print layout view, and have tried selecting the parts of the document with extra whitespace and accepting changes before trying it, but nothing helps.

Sorting of identical index entries that use different \t switches

I have an index in which I want to refer to (1) the page number and (2) the last number of a certain sequence.


Adopting the approach described at http://word.tips.net/T001580_Including_Section_Numbers_in_an_Index.html, I use the \t switch of the index entry to specify the page (using the field "{ PAGE }") and the last number of the sequence "mysequence" using "{SEQ mysequence \c}".


A sample index entry therefore looks like this:

{ XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }


So far so good; the problem occurs if there are multiple occurrences of the same keyword: the page numbers are sorted in the incorrect (reverse) order.


For example if I have

- on page 2 at sequence number 23: { XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }

- on page 5 at sequence number 102: { XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }


I would expect to get the following index (using "{ INDEX \e " " \c "2" \z "3079" }"):

keyword......................................2:23, 5:102

Instead I get:

keyword......................................5:102, 2:23

I would be tremendously grateful if anybody could help me out.

inserting a multi-page Word document as object into Outlook

I am attempting to insert a multi-page Word document into an Outlook email message, however it only inserts the first page. Would any know why this is happening? I am selecting Insert>Object>Create from File and then selecting the Word document.

File size is HUGE from images

I have inserted two images (with total file size of 1.1 MB) as cover and title page of a document. The doc now has a file size of  39 MG, and is unwieldy to work on, to say the least!

I separated the file into "Cover and Title" and "the rest of the doc" to facilitate editing, but will eventually need to combine them.

I made sure the "do not compress images" box is unchecked.

(I originally inserted  raw images, then used some of Word's image tools to modify....which resulted in a file size of 56 MB and did not print the text on these two pages when saving to PDF!!!!! I then pasted the "modified" images into an image editing program and reduced the file sizes to 639 KB and 469 KB. I inserted these two into a new file, which, as stated above, now is 39 MB.)

It seems I must be missing something, or doing something wrong.  Is there any help for this?

Opening/ saving files with Office 2013

I have recently downloaded Microsoft office 2013 professional edition. I cannot open office documents directly from desktop or any other folders. Word or excel documents does not appear in its regular icon. If I go to say excel 2013 (start-->all programs-->Microsoft office 2013-->Microsoft word 2013), and open a file form within the excel (going to File-> open), the file opens. This also happens when try to create a document, save it in word 2013 and again try to open it from desktop/ folder, the file does not opens. Can somebody help me solve this problem?

Hi,

I'm very familiar with personal.xlsm in excel. 
I have my own macros in it, it is opened automatically each time I start Excel.

Similarly, I want to
- create my own Word macros, assigning them to "ctrl+shift+letter" combinations  
- to be able to have them in hand each time I launch Word.
I tried some time but I could not succeed.
How can I do this, if it is possible.

I'm using Win 8.1, Office 2010.

I'm trying to send email using MailMerge in Word 2007 and Google Mail.  In Word, it looks like the emails have gone, but nothing shows up in my Google Mail.  How can I tell if the emails actually were sent?

(I actually use Windows 7 Home Premium)

Dragon was working perfectly until about 1 month ago. 

Recently it started to stop working after a few documents, it becomes unresponsive and I have to restart the computer. 

Initially the computer told me at restart that there were problems with the add in and it was going to be disabled.

The add in was disabled. I enable it every time I turn on my computer, but the problem occurs again and again with both dragon and word becoming unresponsive.

I started working with the dictation box (much less comfortable), but today, it also got stuck twice!

Is there an update to fix a bug? Could there be a problem with MCaffee, which I installed recently too?

Hi,

I have a Word document with several tables, n rows, 6 columns. The fifth column contain in each cell a content control (combobox)

Depending on the selected item, I want to color that cell. Using the following code:

What I would add:

- In case "OK", add the date into the cell on the same row, column 6.

- For the other options, clear the contents of the cell in column 6.

I tried to figure out how to find the table index but I am get stuck. Any idea how to get the index? Thanks for your time.

MS Word 2003 and word 2010

I was using windows XP and ms word 2003, I have some ms word documents, which I created in ms word 2003(windows xp), but I am using windows 7 ms word 2010 now,

When I open my ms word 2003 documents on my new windows xp ms word 2010 and make some changes (like make a word italic etc) then my document size increase a lot, like it was 12 KB prior, but after doing this small change it became 41 KB and a logo which was given in header section become unvisible,

but when I open same document in ms word 2003 and make some small changes again then my document size automatically decrease to 12 KB and logo start displaying on document.

Can you plesae suggest how can I solve this problem in ms word 2010, because if size will remain same in ms word 2010 then my problme will solve.

I have wrote a book in Microsoft Office Word 2007. How to create a table of contents without changing the font style for the titles that I want to add them to the TOC. While when selecting a text and pressing on add text and applying heading 1 it change the font style.

the thesaurus on my newly loaded word 13

I recently loaded word 13.  I signed up and logged in to MS and downloaded a dictionary.  But my thesaurus will not suggest any words and no synonyms are listed.  i get the message synonyms await, but nothing ever lists.  any suggestions?

MS Word Mail Merge via DDE Problem

I have a problem with a Mail Merge Document I have created whereby when I complete the merge it throws out the error the Word could not open the data source.

However, this problem only seems to occur when the sheet is loaded with data to merge across. If the excel document is only half-full this does-not occur. There are no other variables and I have tested to high heaven.

You can tell it is about to fail because when successful it opens the Workbook and leaves it open in the background, if it is going to fail it opens it but then closes and asks you if want to save any changes even though none have been made?

I am using DDE because all other MS Excel Merge methods limit the volume of characters that can be merged per field and also the number of fields that can be merged and I have 162 merge fields.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem. It is not a Computer issue because the same issue occurs across multiple machines.

We are using Office 365 for business.

Blurry Images from Word to .pdf

I am using Word 2013. I have been reading the responses to this issue in earlier versions, and am hoping for some updated information.

I am required to create the document using Word, and also to output to .pdf using the "save as PDF"  feature (the "print to PDF" feature, which offers resolution options, does not maintain live hyperlinks.)  I have checked the "Do not compress images in file" in the Advanced Options area, as indicated in previous responses. 

However, one response referred to some settings in the "Save as PDF" dialog box that I do not find. The only options available refer to document info and bookmarks.

I need to use a small, crisp lined, logo (less than 1/2") in the header of a long document. It looks GREAT in Word, but terrible in PDF.

Any help for me before I tear ALL of my hair out?

I have a Mail Merge that uses an Excel workbook for data. It prints out a letter of the personal church contributions for the previous year for tax purposes.

It works fine. Now the church treasurer wants a PDF file for each letter sent.

I have no clue how to do this.

I bought an early version which didn't require activation, but when I got to
a different job several years later, they had individual licenses and each

Can you tell me if the disk should be smooth all the way across? I can feel

Not enough details - what do you see in /var/log/messages at boot time
related to eth0? Is the card recognized? What _kind_ of card is this?
What driver has been selected?
 

That only means that the kernel network stack is operating, and that
'ping' is usable. It has nothing to do with the network _card_ because
the address is 'localhost' and when you are trying to talk to yourself
there is no need to even have a ethernet, token-ring, fddi, or ppp
interface.
 

1. /var/log/messages Is it seen? Is the "right" driver used? Any
error messages?

2. /sbin/ifconfig -a Is the interface shown? Can you see something
that looks realistic as a "HWaddr"? Packet counts for TX and RX -
are any shown? Any error counts above zero?

3. Do you have any firewall settings? (This really shouldn't be the
problem, but it's something to check.
 

Does the card accept this mode of operation?

Works for me too. Highly recommended if you're having a similar
problem, my avahi-autoipd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386 was conflicting with
avahi-0.6.16-4.fc6.i386

I performed the following steps (as root)
rpm -U --replacepkgs avahi-autoipd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
This complained about the old fc6 package, so I did
rpm -e --noscripts avahi-0.6.16-4.fc6.i386
Then did the first command again:
rpm -U --replacepkgs avahi-autoipd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
which worked without error.
I then did:
yum update
worked fine, with no complaints.

I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2013 onto my laptop. When I go to change the font color of my text, the Gradient option is greyed out and unclickable. When I make the font category bigger, Text Effects is also faded out.  I feel like something is disabled but I don't know what. How do I fix this?

Hi,

Unfortunately since we migrated from Word 2010 to Word 2013 I experienced a lot of similar problem when working with drawings and canvas ..... in a lot of cases completing with a complete Word crash. I could even generate a Word crash creating a new Word document and doing only two single canva operations.

I observed several times thie same problem, in fact each time I forgot to not use object groups with embedded text. This is just not working with Word 2013.

I assume that Microsoft have an OOP bug in their text managemnet copying only the pointer to the text in place of copying the whole content leading to the observed behaviour that change the text in one object changes the text in all object copies.

Workaround:

- Use another program

- If you have to use Word like I have never copy object with embedded text, i.e. create each text instance individually.

TOC crashes on update unless Word runs in Safe mode

Actually I am finding that WORD 2013 cannot do a simple TOC update in normal mode - it crashes on every attempt. I can only manage a TOC, list of figures, or tables if I start WORD in Safe mode.

Our computer crashed in November and we lost Microsoft Office.  

Can I use the original program download to re-stall Microsoft Office?

The program and the computer are from 2007.

Computer problem with Word 2010

Computer  problem with word Document.

A few weeks ago my computer was going slow and my son offered to see if he could sort it out for me. He was able to clear malware off the computer and copy my files to an external hard drive. When I got the computer back everything   looked fine and the computer was working much faster. Problems arose when I open a file and later closed it. It then seemed to create a copy file . The word logo appears in the folder as a lighter version on the normal  logo that indicates the flag type.

If I try to print a copy of the doc from what looks like the genuine one or the fainter one,  it will not print . If there is a watermark on the doc it will print the watermark only.

An email will not print either although the Epsom  window on the computer will show as normal as will the print page and  the printer window on the printer. I have enclosed a photo of an example  from a word folder and as you will see the file name changed from 10 to a sideways s and what appears to be a $ sign. In addition the normal appearing file contains 1.21 mb, while the fainter one indicates  1.62 bytes.

My computer operates on Windows 7 and word 2010 which got about 2 years ago. Is there a setting that is making my files save as docx and if so how do I change it and restore my files.

"Microsoft word document" is how my files were tagged in the file index.

Any assistance how I might solve this problem would be most welcome.

N. B. I do not have much technical knowledge but can follow instructions.

word multilevel outline-- lock numbers??

I have created a 200+ page document w/ outlines and multiple numbered lists and multiple multi-level lists.

Is there a way to "lock" or "freeze" the list numbers?

I want to allow others to edit the content but not change/delete/add to the numbers on the various lists.

Can you help?

Swapping documents in side-by-side view

I'm using MS Word 2010 and looking at 2 documents using the side-by-side feature.  I'd like to change the positions of the two documents from A-B to B-A.  Doing this by dragging and resizing windows is awkward.  Is there a more elegant or simple way to do so?

Typing in Vietnamese using Arial in Word 2013

While placing Vietnamese text from a Word 2013 document into InDesign, I noticed all characters printed using the Microsoft font Arial. It appears to support more glyphs than some other fonts.

I was asked how people can type in Vietnamese using Arial --- do they use different combinations of modifier keys or do they need a special configuration of either Microsoft Word, their computer, or their keyboard?

Hey guys,

I've just been sent a word document by a friend who has a deadline for a proposal and and most of the document has changed to a series of characters. I have tried all the typical methods to reverse this i.e. converting and reconverting from text and rtf, opening in a 3rd party work program, deleting final paragraph and extracting it in fragments into a new document, but alas nothing seems to help. It appears that the problem is stemming from the tables...

I have attached a screenshot outlining the problem. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Word 365 recent documents default location is Onedrive

Everytime I open Word the recent documents list is always the files located on OneDrive, even though they have not been synced or updated.  I am looking for a way to enable all recent documents to be displayed, not just those on the cloud.

Trying to create a fill-in form where several of the fields will be the same answer/value. It's simple with Adobe Forms to do this with the property name being the same. Help. I've read some articles but can't get it to work. Any step by step instructions would help. Using Legacy Tools, Developer Tab.

Splitting, selecting and deleting words by unknown colour

Hi

I have a document pasted from the internet that contains several hundred lines.   The names are in a purple colour (not sure exactly which shade) and the job titles are in black (see example below).

I want to split out the first name, surname and job title into three columns.

Here's what I have to work with.

The first name and surname are in purple and separated by a space.   

The job title has no space between the surname but is separated by colour (ie it's black!)

Any pointers would be appreciated!

I'm thinking search by colour might work but I don't know the shade? 

I've tried "select by similar format" but it picks up the whole line.

Copying a text from a website that has a narrow textbox, and pasting it into word.

Whenever I copy a text from a website where the textbox is narrow, pasting it in Word will always cause it to follow the same narrow formatting instead of being continuous. 

Example:

year and on weekly earnings in the previous year. No significant impact was

found on the labor force participation rate or the employment to population

ratio in the census week or the number of weeks worked in the previous year.

The magnitudes of the coefficients imply that a 1 percentage point increase in

the percent of foreign-born in a city reduces the unemployment rate by

0.23 percentage points; reduces the number who worked in the previous year

by 0.25 percentage points; and reduces wages of unskilled natives by

1.2 percent, at most.

Instead of:

Office 2013 over Windows Server 2012 RDP World Add-On Macro/Template Error

I have a new Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop environment for about ten users (not R2) with the latest Office 2013 Pro installed.

The users all have an add-on word template in Word for Office 2013.  That add-on was installed as administrator and ONLY works as administrator.

When any other user (even if they are local administrators, domain admins, etc.) opens Word, they are immediately prompted with the following message:

"Could not load some objects because they are not available on this machine."

If a user "runs as administrator" it runs fine.  Obviously, I don't want that.  I have been searching and searching and thought maybe there was a group policy or Office setting someone may know that I just can't find.

Any help would be awesome!  Thank you.

Restart after level question

I have set-up a customized multilevel list where I have associated paragraph styles with 7 levels that seems to be working properly.  My document has other paragraph styles that may be mixed in with the multilevel list and are not part of the multilevel list so I would think they would not have an effect on the list. My question concerns Restart after level.  It seems to me that any higher level would reset a lower level numbering, but from experimenting a lower level will only restart after the specified level.  Am I correct?

Avoid printing a worksheet object

I have a word document with an inserted excel worksheet object in the footer, how can I avoid getting the excel icon printed when I print the word document?

WORD why does it automatically go to 11pt.? 12pt. is the norm. why do some WORD documents show 8pt. asviually different sizes?

Although some if I copy and paste a smaller looking 8pt. to page it is bigger those letters become bigger. Is it from using the same document over and over adding info.?

(1) a particular line to a particular line. Say the doc has 200 lines and I wish to copy from line#56 to line#112. What is the short cut?

(2) similarly a particular line to end of the doc.

Word for iPad upload pending forever to OneDrive

Was excited to switch to Word for iPad, but quickly found it extremely slow saving and retrieving from OneDrive. My 2-page Christmas letter w 6 pictures hangs indefinitely at "Upload Pending". After 24 hours of not updating, I deleted and reloaded the app, losing my letter, of course. Re-wrote the letter. Same problem. It's been a couple days now, and it's still pending. Documents without pics do save to OneDrive, but seems sluggish compared to Pages. Help?

Word 2013 & Exel problems

 I have monthly newsletter that I have written using a template in Word 2013.  When I bring up previous months newsletters, the formatting is all very messed up.  I also noticed that when I bring up an Exel document from early December all the cells are unformatted.  What in the world is going on ????

I'm trying to do a project and i want to put in a footer to show the pages. My problem is that the first page will say one, but then i have to put the footer in again on the next page. When i do this, the third page will say two as well. If i change the third page to say 3, the second page will then also say three. How do i get it to automatically change number with each page?  I had the exact same problem earlier today on another project but i asked my teacher and he said it didn't matter. My current project will have 20+ pages, so I don't really want to put it in manually. I also don't feel like it would let me anyway, but I haven't tried to do this with more than three pages.  

Opening files

Hi today I downloaded Office Home and Student. Before there were some files I cldn't open, Now I can't open any. Neither can I open attachments from emails. Windows just stops working. Help!

word 2010 automatic updates to excel links working but not to jpg links. Under the dialogue box showing links the "Update Method for selected link" is available for excel links but not for jpg. The jpgs were inserted as link to file.
