Outlook is retrieving data from old server message

Posted: 17 Jan 2008 09:57 AM PST

All users Exchange properties show the new server. A few things I noticed.
I started the old server back up. Started the Information Store and System
Attendant. They no longer get the message.

Looking at the Public Folders Instances on the old server, I can see 3 of
the Public Folders. What is the difference between the Public Folder
instances and the Public Folder? Looking at the tion status on the old
server, it shows they have been Both Modified. I thought that I had moved
them. Could this have something to do with users having their Outlook start
slow? How do I get rid of the old server?

Storage Group Size

Posted: 15 Jan 2008 02:00 PM PST

I just created a new storage group with one database that I only moved one
user to so far. Their mailbox size is only 7 MB. It has only been a few
weeks and I was going to start moving other users to it but noticed the
storage group folder has grown to 278 GB. It wasn't being backed up prior to
last night but has now been successfully backed up. The users mailbox seems
to be fine but I'm not able to even browse to that storage group's folder.
It causes explorer to "not respond."

Questions about migrating from Ex2003 to Ex2007 and coexistance.

Posted: 13 Jan 2008 01:40 PM PST

Now I have a couple of related questions.

I know for Exchange 2007 user mailbox settings you have to use the Exchange
07 tools, you don't use the A/D users and computers snap in, but during the
"coexistence" phase, I assume I still use the A/D snap in for the Exchange
2003 users, correct? If we need to create a new user, or mailbox enable
someone on the Exchange 2003 system, do we just use the regular tools?

Also, regarding OWA. I realize that the Exchange 2007 CAS provides for the
backward compatibility 2003 "/exchange" OWA site, but due to our licensing
issues I don't want to run the 2003 users through the 2007 web system. Is
there any problem with leaving our 2003 Outlook Web server active and as we
migrate users at that time have them go to the 2007 CAS server (and use the
"/OWA")? What would happen if a user with a mailbox on the 2007 server
would try to access the 2003 OWA server?

Hi,

Yes, we do have Trend Micro Office Scan client and Scan Mail products
running on the server. But I do not think this is causing the problem, as I
have seen this problem being discussed in a lot of forums and people say that
even disabling/removing Trend does not help.

Exchange 2007 Tranisition - Public Folder replication issues

Posted: 10 Jan 2008 09:37 PM PST

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your reply.
Can you let me know how this is done - I have spent some time looking at
various settings but cant find where one adds E2K7 server as a to all
public folder instances...?
There are 2 options in EMS for PF instances (on E2k server):
1. To Select PF
2. to 'change server' i.e. move to the public folder on a different server.

I suspect neither of these options is what is required.
Many thanks...

Exchange Distribution List Limitation - Exchange 2007

Posted: 10 Jan 2008 08:57 AM PST

Mmm (deep thought) ... I appreciate the feedback Mark, but can you help me
understand this some more and perhaps suggest an alternative? My users
have a shared mailbox and in that mailbox they have populated Contacts with
many contacts plus they've also created distribution lists within Contacts
(see attached screen-shot). They used the full OL2003 client to create the
contacts not OWA. The problem occurs when they use Contacts to do their
mailings. The exact process as follows:

- Open Contacts from the shared mailbox
- View by Catagory
- Select the Category
- Expand the Category
- Click Action in Menu Bar and select New Message to Contacts which puts
them in the To: field in the new message
- Cut 'n' Paste the Contacts from the To: field into the Bcc: field
- Type the message as usual and click Send

After what seems like an Outlook hang, the result is the error message
described in my oringla posting ... the web article states "Exchange Server
2003 has a limit on the number of contacts that can be added to a
distribution list." which made me think it was an Exchange issue. Either
way, they'd like to
continue using this method, so any information on how to fix or work-around
this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

PJ.

Problem Creating Mailboxes on Exchange 2003

Posted: 09 Jan 2008 11:34 AM PST

Hi David,

i read the article of the URL you sent me. I enabled RUS logging and tired
to check for errors. But i had only informational log events, and no critical
erros on RUS.

I was waitig more than 24 hours for RUS to stamp a user object. But it
didn't happen.
I was also checking if there are some inconsistencies between exchange and
domaincontrollers (eg. time difference to big). But nothing at all was
present.

After i triggered the RUS manually to do an update, then unstamped objects
were
stamped again. I also tested if the RUS stamps new objects wich also works
again.

I'm really a little bit confused why the RUS stops working immediately, but
some collegaues told me, that they had this problem also, and they resolved
it with reboots of DC and Exchange. But in my case this didn't help.

I'll read a little bit more about RUS. Probably i find out why it stops
working.

Dear All,

I am using the default Windows converters [wordconv.exe, excelcnv.exe, ppcnv.exe] for converting old doc, xls, ppt format files to docx, xlsx, pptx [Xml formats]. This conversion tools works fine in my windows 7 PC. But when I execute the same command in a windows 2008 Server, the conversion is not happening. I'm not even getting any error messages or error logs.

This is the command I'm using for doc--> docx conversion:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\wordconv.exe" -oice -nme "input.doc" "output.docx"

This is the command I'm using for xls--> xlsx conversion:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\wordconv.exe" -oice "input.xls" "output.xlsx"

Both are running on 64bit Operating System only. Someone help. Any suggestion would be helpful. Is there any pre-requisite software needed which will be available in windows 7 by default but not in 2008 servers?

Please do let me know if you need more information.

Draft View has gone wonky

Posted: 29 Nov 2014 09:53 AM PST

OK... so I am a freelance publishing subeditor and to work on documents I use Office 365 with Dragon Naturally Speaking 12. So far I have found this to be a very good combination.

However... this morning I was dictating text into my computer using Word when Dragon misheard something I was dictating, believing it to be the command "Draft View".

I always work in draft view anyway, so I was already in draft view, so the command should have had no effect. However, what actually happened was that the various text styles used in the documents I edit no longer appear in Draft view. Instead, all of the text is in a font which looks like Courier. Doubleand triple carriage returns have all been replaced with single carriage returns; in short, the formatting on the document is FUBAR.

But when I view the documents in print view, outline view, read mode etc, they look fine. And when I open the documents in my laptop, which runs Word 2007, everything is fine in draft view.

I have 'repaired' Office 365 using the control panel and I have uninstalled the programme and then re-installed it and yet the problem persists.

Can anyone tell me: WTF has caused this and how can I remedy it?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I have no problem for the first part for 1, and 1-(a), 1-(b) etc. But I cannot make the second part since I cannot find a way to have 2 and 2-(a) appear on the same line. Is there is a quick solution.

Mail merge Word Excel, Could not find installable ISAM

Posted: 28 Nov 2014 10:28 PM PST

Hi there,

I am trying to do a Mail Merge using a Word document and an Excel database. When I try to open the Excel file I get the error message 'Could not find installable ISAM'.

There ar some threads about this error message. Some about a connection string, some about file locations. Since I don't use a connection string, that seems not to be the answer but I do have some worries about the file locations or the registry entry.

On my system the Msexcl40.dll is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and in C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-m..components-jetexcel_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_b2ae6f155dd6aa86.

The register key to JET is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel

So everything seems to be there, but it does not work.

Using Word/Excel from Office 2013 Professional Plus 2013 32-bit

Running Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit.

Any ideas??

VBA to detect rotation of inline shape

Posted: 28 Nov 2014 06:09 PM PST

It's only been recently (since 2007?) that Word has allowed us rotate inline shapes. I'm looking for a way for a macro to detect whether such a shape has been rotated; but apparently there's no .Rotation property for the InlineShape object. Any ideas for a way around that (in Word 2010)?

If it helps, the rotation is always either 0 or 90 degrees, so a Boolean function would suffice (that is, there's no need to detect the amount). Unfortunately the shapes are not all of the same aspect ratio or this would obviously be simple.

Thanks for any clues.

Mark

Office Professional 2007 registration failure

Actually, the way they are using the software - three people, they would be
violating the EULA if it was installed on the second machine as the second
install is "to be used by the primary person on both devices" (my quotes.)
They would need to purchase 2 more licenses to be "legal."

From MS EULA for Office 2007 Pro -

2.INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license,
you must assign that license to one device. That device is the "licensed
device." A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate
device.

a.Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the
licensed device.
b.Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for use
by the single primary user of the licensed device.

If you don't feel competent to do this, don't try it!

One other suggestion would be to find a copy of Office XP Pro w/ Front
Page and install it and then uninstall it, that should work.

Can't get rid of a program

Posted: 25 Dec 2007 10:43 PM PST

You have a digital locker if you have ever d/l'd anything from Microsoft's
website(s). You can go there and re-d/l whatever software you purchased or
d/l'd from MS. After you SAVE a copy of the software, you can create an image
file of the install package and burn it, effectively giving you a CD to use
for a repair or whatever else you may need to do.

BIG PROBLEM : MYSQL MAYBE

-------------------------------------------------------------

We are receiving many connections.
People come to us to view 1 image or text + 1 PHP content. Some other
people come to destroy.

Tasks to our servers :

1. Do we have to give the image ? = MYSQL Querry
2. Give the Image = Brandwidth
3. Give the text-content = PHP
4. Can you click on the image = MYSQL

Our web pages are displaid too slowly, like if we had an enormous
traffic.

We try to yze and modify DB Querries and Web codes.

yzing modifications, it appears that in a web page, inserting :

MYSQL (SELECT two fieds in T1 crossed with two fields in T2) is not
consuming a lot of CPU for the MYSQL process BUT is consuming a lot of
CPU for the HTTPD process. Maybe bc of the time to get results.

What are the leveraged actions to embeed the speed of the web pages ?

1. Minimize requests to MYSQL
2. Minimize PHP readen content (e.g.
while(isset($_COOKIE['$j'."$i"]) ....)

Many thanks for any advices from your knowledge and experience.

fix for sys_vmsplice exploit: how to?

Learn to recompile your own kernel. Learn to add a new kernel file to
your GRUB boot loader configuration. Learn how to select which kernel
you are booting in the GRUB menu. Then you will be eligible for one of
the 98 different patch files I have available based on kernel version at:

http://phil.ipal.org/linux/kernel/patch/vmsplice/

Or see if your repository source for package updates has a new kernel
available for you if you're not in the "geeky learning" mode.

fetchmail can invoke procmail too. That's how I get my incoming mail.

Sionce they have m4 macros to build the sendmail.cf all the common
things are quite easy.

If your hardware can handle it 10000 users shouldn't be a problem for
any serious MTA.

mp3gain

"Doug Freyburger" <com> wrote

Thanks for another helpful reply. Now I understand why the command ran
in batches of ~1750 mp3s.

You're probably right. I'm going to let it get all the way through in
batches and see what the results sound like. Most of the batches end
halfway through an album, which should provide some continuity anyway.
If I end up with some particularly loud or quiet I can always run
mp3gain again on those individual tracks.

It's taking about 2.5 hours to process each batch (2 hours to yse,
..5 to rewrite them), so it hasn't finished yet. I run the server
headless so need to find another PC I can log in from and leave
running for ~17 hours for it to complete. I'm not aware of a way to
let the process continue after logging out. I could always schedule it
as a monthly cron job I suppose ...

Yes. Sadly mp3gain is quite limited, and doesn't have this feature -
but never mind, I'm sure the xargs solution will be fine. If not, I'll
do what you suggested earlier and output all the path&filenames to a
text file, randomise it and then feed it to xargs again. That should
ensure the convergence of gain across batches.

Thanks for all your help,

To me it has proven as the most utter crap FS I have ever used,
whenever some FS failed you could be sure it was reiserfs.
Replacing it with something know to work fixed all FS related
problems for all times. My best advice, don't use reiserfs.

Linux vs OS X vs "Other alternitives"...

I don't know about MSFT products. But I've a few OSX machines mixed in

I do miss the CLI tools when using OSX (and the ability to run "yum
list ..."), but it may be that they're there and I just don't know them.
And I've enough complaints about OSX's differences from other Unixen
(little but big things, like automounters and such) that I tend to keep
my OSX time mostly to a minimum.

Redhat's RHN is not quite as flexible as yum, but it's not bad in terms
of flexibility or functionality. It's still based on up2date, which is
backward from yum but not *that* far back. My big complaint against it
is that, unless I go for a higher end service I believe, I cannot simply
rsync RPMs to a local archive from which a bunch of machines can be
updated.

It's been a while, but my recollection of Solaris' pkg support mechanism
- just to add another example - is that it was pretty feeble. It would
check dependencies, but not act on them. That is, an install/update
might fail for missing dependencies, but it wouldn't pull the
dependencies in.

But that was quite a while ago; things have probably changed since then.

Does Project Professional 2003 come with Server CAL?

Posted: 16 Nov 2005 02:25 PM PST

EED,

You should note that most of the responses here are NOT official responses
from Microsoft and that license agreements are complicated and varied so
there may be possibilities and restrictions that people here are not aware
of. You might want to contact Microsoft directly to find a definitive answer
to the question. In my limited experience I've only seen project pro with an
included CAL. It is almost like a "free" CAL so I'd expect the price with or
without it would be the same.

calculated correctly.
