| The Works word processor doesn't include a macro recorder. I thought about
| using a Windows macro prog e.g. Keyboard Express, but there isn't a
keyboard
| command for Save As that it could call. Using Save just brings up a
dialog
| box telling you the document will be saved as a .wps and that you need to
| use Save As, so you're back where you started.

Works Spreatsheet Charts

Include a chart in a word processing document

If you're creating a newsletter for a sports team, for example, you could
include a chart showing the team's statistics for all or part of the season.
For step-by-step instructions on inserting a chart in a word processor
document, see Works Help in the Word Processor.

Cannot open WDB files unless starting Works Database program

Posted: 06 Dec 2007 01:16 PM PST

Thanks Michael for your reference to a webpage text about the Windows Vista
options (1.) Set your default programs, and (2.) Associate a file type or
product with a program. I already knew these options and had found out that
they don't work for MS Works Database.
As the webpage text already mentions, the list of Standard programs shown in
Option 1 is incomplete, and nothing can be added to it. Not only Adobe
Acrobat Reader is missing, but also the MS Works Database program.
Option 2 includes the .wdb extension ("Unknown application" !!). Just like
the procedure you enter when trying to open a wdb-file by doubleclicking on
it), I can browse to the MS Works Data base program, but if this is selected,
nothing happens, this program is not accepted as a program to be used for
opening the file. It is possible however to link the .wdb extention to the
Works Spreadsheet program, but unfortanately that program cannot open .wdb
files!

Moving From Works 4.5A to 9..

Yes, there is. Works 4.5a can open Works 4.x-documents, Works 9.0

So, if you don't need your old Works-documents, Works 9.0 works.

Ask the microsoft knowledgebase:
"The Works 4.0 file converter (Works432.cnv) is not installed with
Works 9.
Works 4.0 word processor documents and templates cannot be opened
without this file converter."

If you want to open your old Works-documents with your new Works 9.0,
you can buy Works 8.0, then open each document with Works 8.0
and save it in a format that can be read by Works 9.0.
Now you can work with Works 9.0 like you did before with Works 4.5a.

If you open one of these files then save it with a different name, can you
then open the saved file as you would normally open a file?

By the way you should upgrade to version 4.5a.

Go to Works website http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/default.mspx

==> Downloads ==> Product Updates, "Works 4.0 & 4.5 - Year 2000 Update
(English)", I believe this update includes several patches to correct
problems in earlier versions.

How to load Works Calendar at Start Up

Posted: 01 Dec 2007 02:13 PM PST

Hi Tobe,

To have the calendar open at startup you need to put a shortcut to
WksCal.exe in the StartUp folder.

Windows xp has several different startup folders so you have to locate the
correct one.

I am on a WindowsMe system so cannot give you Windows xp location.

Try this.... on the desktop choose Start, select Programs, on it's expanding
menu select StartUp, on it's expanding menu there will be several items,
right click one, choose Properties, on the General tab of the Properties
dialog window you should see the location of it's StartUp folder.

Did the path to the StartUp folder include you user name?

If not, check the Properties of others.

What your looking for is the StarUp folder for your user so the calendar
will only display for you.

There are several ways to put WksCal.exe in the StartUp folder.

One way: search for WksCal.exe, right click select Send To, on it's
expanding menu choose Desktop (create shortcut).

On desktop, right click the shortcut icon, choose Properties, on General tab
change 'Shortcut to wkscal.exe' to read Works Calendar, click OK.

Now right click Works Calendar icon, choose Copy, navigate to and open above
found StartUp folder, right click a blank area, choose Paste.

To confirm, on the desktop choose Start, select Programs, on it's expanding
menu select StartUp, on it's expanding menu Works Calendar should be there.

When you start the computer the calendar should open.

You will also notice you have a icon on the desktop to open the calendar,
which is what I use instead of having the calendar open automatically on
Start..

Hope this helps,
Ken

HELP

Word constantly running into error and asking to repair. Consistently not working.

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 01:08 PM PST

I have Word for Office 365 and I've had this problem that no one else seems to be having.  Every time I open Word, it shows the following message:

"We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result.
Would you like us to repair now?"

and then it provides me with the options "Repair Now", "Help", or "Close".

I have clicked "Repair Now" on multiple occasions, choosing both the "Quick Repair" and the "Online Repair".  Both of which work for one time use before I am greeted with the same message about an error.  After dealing with this message 10 times, I have finally decided to make a post as I cannot find anyone else running into the same problem.

I have already uninstalled the whole program completely and re-installed it.  I have bought the package and have it installed on my laptop as well as my desktop.  My desktop has no problems with it whatsoever, only my laptop.

My laptop is an Asus Zenbook UX31E, Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System.  It has a SSD, so the memory is only 111 GB, but it is not full and still has 44.4 GB free, so there is plenty of room for Word to run.

This happens with all of my Microsoft Office 365 products, so it is not limited to Word.  If anyone has any suggestions or can help me resolve this issue, that would be phenomenal.

Word 2013 and touch screen scroll issue.

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 08:59 AM PST

I am using a surface with Word 2013 and the touch screen scroll does not always work. Can someone let me know if this works the same on their Surface 2 pro.

  1. Open a document (or create one) that is long enough to scroll on your screen.

  2. Change your view to 'draft' or 'outline'.

  3. Does your document scroll via the touch screen?

Mine only scrolls via the scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen. Every other view mode will scroll without the scroll bar except view 'draft' or 'outline'. Is this by design or is it a bug?

XML Problem: I can't open my Word 2007 docx file (Start/Endtag Problem) - Fixit doesn`t work

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 07:57 AM PST

Hi there,

I have a big problem and I hope there is somebody who can repair my Word-Document (or at least save the text somehow).
After my flash drive crashed, I used a data restoring software and managed to get back this important Word-File, but now I can't open it.

The Fixit solution of Microsoft didn't work. I read about fixing the problem with an XML-Editor, but I have no experience with that.
The most important thing would be just the text. It would be fantastic if someone could restore this work (which took me nearly two weeks).

I uploaded the docx and the xml file here:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-8602999/Studienarbeit_-_Anw._Fallstudienseminar_-_Robert_Fromm_-_32874.docx.html
http://www.file-upload.net/download-8603008/document.xml.html

Thanks a lot in advance! You would save me a lot of time.

greeting Robert

Microsoft Word

What version of Microsoft Word should I get for my XP to get a newer version?
Does anyone know how much I need to spend.
Thanks

what do I need to do to read the downloaded pdf file?  I am using Office Word.

Is there any way to update the APA citations for Office 2013 to APA 7th edition?

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 06:40 AM PST

Currently Office 2013 is using APA 6th edition, and there are a few significant changes in the reference page between the 6th and 7th editions so when making a references page, we are forced to manually update it, or convert it to static text and then make the appropriate changes.

Is there any way to fix this currently, or is there an APA 7th edition patch coming?

Thanks

If I deselect "Formatting" in Show Markup, why is it not persistent?

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 02:02 AM PST

I use Word 2007 with Win7.

In Review > Show Markup, I don't want to see "Formatting" in the bubbles.

When I deselect "Formatting", all the formatting bubbles disappear. That's fine.

However, if I (a) turn Change Tracking off, and do some editing, then (b) turn Change Tracking on, the formatting bubbles re-appear.

When I open Review > Show Markup, I can see that "Formatting" is again selected.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Can't change voice in text-to-speech tool to desired option.

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 11:14 PM PST

I've been trying to select Microsoft Hazel Desktop - English (Great Britain) as the default voice for text-to-speech. I can preview the voice and change the voice speed, but once I click Apply, OK and go back into Word, it is still set to Microsoft David Desktop - English (United States) - although, oddly enough, the voice speed settings have changed to what I selected.

If I choose Microsoft Zira Desktop - English (United States) instead, the changes also work after clicking Apply, OK. It's only if I try to use "Hazel" that it reverts back to "David".

As an Australian, "Hazel's" voice best reflects our pronunciation of words and is much easier to listen to for large sections of text. As a copywriter, I use this tool to read through all my client copy as part of my proofing process.

Any ideas why I can preview "Hazel" but the settings don't stick?

I'm running Windows 8 using MS 2010.

I'm trying to edit a document I created and closed the other day.  Now when I try to open it for edit it shows "in use" or locked by another user.  If I say open in read only it just opens a doc with several pages of gobble-dee-gook.  I cannot delete file either to start fresh.  How do I get file to open for edit or delete it to start over?  I can edit other dos with no issues.   However, when closing Word program locks and becomes non-responsive.  I have kill it with Task Manager.  Word Version 14.0.7106.5003. Thanks.

Adding Digital Signatures in Office 365 Home Premium

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 08:53 PM PST

Hi,

I have tried to install a digital certificate on a document in MS-Word, but have constantly drawn a blank,

I followed the steps on tutorials, but could not proceed.

This is what I did

1. Clicked on the Insert menu, then Text, followed by Signature Line

2. I filled in the details in the Signature Setup dialog box

3. On pressing OK, the signature line appeared showing X and a line with my name beneath the X

According to the tutorials, I should double click on the signature image for adding images to the signature. However, if I do that I get the following message:

Before you can add signatures, you must save the document in a format that supports digital signatures. Do you want to save in a supported format (Yes/No)?

I have tried saving it, using a blank document etc. However, I cannot get around to the stage of adding an image to the signature.

Does anyone have an idea about why this is misbehaving?

Regards,

How do I keep Equation Editor from resolving a character?

word macro

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 05:18 PM PST

Hello to all
I have a document that has a lot of excel graphs imported into word 2010. When i copt and paste them the format of the graph changes so i need to manually apply a standard graph model and change the size of it.
is there a way to do this in vba?
i tried to record a macro but the result is null ( no code inside it)
So i believe i need some code that changes the size and axis properties for the selected graph, in word 2010.

Best regards
Peter

Hi Susan:
Thanks for your prompt reply.
1. Installer appears every time I launch Word, Outlook, Excel (these are the
programs I use).
2. Have not previously installed Office XP
3. It does not seem to be installing anything.
4. I'll try "Detect & Repair"

Thanks, Mark Flynn

Are you trying to activate XP or Office ? Normally Dell would do it
from their factory. Or did you just install the sw yourself ?
If you are setting up the PC, install everything as you'd like it prior
to activation. That way you shouldn't need to do it again later.( after
adding your apps on there)

OEM SBS2003 vs retail version ?

Posted: 09 May 2006 11:27 AM PDT

That's what I thought but I see LOTS of vendors selling OEM SBS sw and
wondered how to determine how/if a specific OEM package would work with
a generic box. ie. If I build and AMD/ASUS box and then order OEM
SBS2003 , how do I know that I wouldn't get a version that would only
install on , say ... a Dell server. In which case I have just bought a
coaster.
There are a LOT of these vendors online - selling both the OEM and MS
Full versions. They all state that the difference is only
"upgradeability" .

Exactly and when you try to unistall FP it asks for the disks. I'm thinking
that the only recourse I have is to locate the disks, Arrrgghhh! We Have
been going thru boxes. If we EVEr have to do a move like this again, it
probably will be as disorganised as this one!

Thanks for the suggestion, the bad thing is, no-one here ever uses FP, and I

Unistalling Office 2003 Pro from one machine and installing it on another one

Posted: 07 May 2006 04:37 AM PDT

Home use programs only allow for a single installation. You will need to
apply to your work System Admin from whom you got the program for any
workarounds for use on a different computer.

How do I cure a 'fatal error has occured '

Posted: 06 May 2006 08:58 AM PDT

Hi.

Try the following steps prior to re-installing Office.

(1) Rename the Microsoft Office folder under C:\Program Files.
(2) Back-up the registry and then delete the following keys-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office

Once you have deleted them, restart the computer and then try re-installing
Office 2003.

Let me know if it helps.

Thanks,

Mittu

Dear, I do not like to forwrd my messages as regular,
I mean when I like to send or forward a messege from my POP3 mail to the
exchange one.

Outllok 2002 can be used to send a messege using the default e-mail, if it
is failed, it will automatically use the other configured e-mail (which in
my case the exchange mail that will send properly) is this feature can be
enabled in outook 2003?

Urgent - Manage Two Domains? Make my Server backup server?

Posted: 08 Feb 2006 11:45 PM PST

>If you are talking about sharing SMTP address space, read this. . .

That's not applicable given the OP's intended implementation. The
address space isn't shared, because the MX does not receive any
messages back from the mailbox server. The flow is unidirectional,
and it's thus acceptable for Exchange to consider itself the sole
authority for each domain.

Can't open OWA from within the network

Posted: 08 Feb 2006 11:35 AM PST

What you've done is hijacked your "real, public" domain. But that's not
a problem. For branding purposes I like to use my real public domain
for my AD domain too. It causes less confusion for the users,
especially in a large organization. Peter was right it is a DNS issue
but it's pretty easy to fix. You can use the CNAME record or you can
create an A record for "mail" within your mydomain.com zone. Just make
the IP address the actual private address of the OWA server. So people
accessing OWA from the inside will hit that and people accessing from
the outside will hit whatever you've got in public DNS

Definition of odd address: one that doesn't have a "domain.org" or

letter extension.

Definition of generic: pick a valid username, any valid username.

Tracking of NDRs on Exchange Server 2003

Posted: 08 Feb 2006 12:40 AM PST

Thanks for the reply!

For the following scenario,

I have 2 different Administrative Groups, each with its own EVS

AG1
- Servers
- <server1>
- Protocols
- SMTP
- Default SMTP Virtual Server

AG2
- Servers
- <server2>
- Protocols
- SMTP
- Default SMTP Virtual Server

Question 1
If a user in server1 sends to a user in server2 and receives a NDR,
where is the NDR generated? server1 or server2?

Question 2
If I enabled the "send copies of NDR" setting only on server1, and a
user in server1 sends to a user in server2 and receives a NDR, would
the specified email address in the "send copies of NDR" setting also
receive the NDR?

Thanks!

Just seems rather stupid that Outlook and Exchange allow you to say that the
folder will be a pulic folder containing tasks and then removes the normal
task functionality from it. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and if anyone
does happen to know for sure on this I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Mark,
Thanks for the help. I had set up the account like your articles indicated.
My problem was I focused too much on Exchange. We are in the middle of
rolling out
Exchange and are currently forwarding all main from our original server
(MDaemon) to the exchange server. I changed the settings on the exchange
server,
but did nothing on the MDaemon side. Once I woke up and changed the
settings on the MDaemon server everything worked as I expected it to.

Thanks again

dismounting store from a command line

Posted: 07 Feb 2006 05:45 AM PST

This seems like a rather risky thing to do on blind faith and really should
be something done in person that you can see the results of before mounting
the file again. After hours and weekends would really be best.

That being said, the only way to do it from a command line is with CDOEXM;
vbscript seems like the most likely method to get at it.

This document talks about CDOEXM:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2000/maintain/ex2kwsh.mspx

Sample 9, line 307 deals with the dismounting. HOWEVER, this code iterates
through all the stores so you'll need to modify it to dismount only the
store(s) you want to. If you let this run and uncomment the Dismount method,
it will dismount all your stores.

inetinfo consumes too much CPU time

Posted: 05 Feb 2006 12:17 AM PST

Hi,
At first, thanks for your reply.
Queue is "Messages waiting to be routed" (protocol:SMTP and
source: Default SMTP Virtual Server). When I looked at the Message
Tacking Center, I saw that the time between "Cathegorized and queued to be
routed" and "queued for local delivery" is more than 15-20 minutes.

System was working very well untill the time before 1 month.
Furthermore we didn't installed any new softwares on server also.
And sometimes it works well after restart and the process inetinfo.exe
doesn't use more CPU time, it uses 2-5 percent of CPU. I don't want
to install SP2 nowadays because of risk. Moreover it has already been working.

I looked for an error in the event viewer, but couldn't find anything. What
should I do in this case? I think that somebody should have
experienced this issue.
Thanks for all.

Tunca.

So what needs to be done now is to discover the reason why this is
happening. Is there a problem with not receiving a response to a

exceeds a certain value? Is there a problem if a packet needs
fragmenting? Is there a problem with routing (e.g. some router between
your SMTP server and the target server has a static route that sends
responses through a route different to the way the packet was sent,
causing the response to come from an IP address different to the one
your firewall thinks it should).

The reasons for this sort of problem are plentiful! 898060 fixes only
