Are you sure? Many computer manufacturers are including trial versions
of Office 2003 with new computers sold at big-box stores, but they only
put full versions on custom-ordered computers when the customer pays
extra to get the full version. Did you actually pay an extra $200 to
$400 to get Office 2003?

Problems converting a trial version

Posted: 13 May 2005 12:48 PM PDT

Than you for trying to help but the article you pointed me to does not apply
to Office small business trial edition. It applies to:
• Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003
• Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
• Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003
• Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
• Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
• Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003
• Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

I made a search on: "How to convert an Office 2003 small business Trial
edition to a full retail edition" but it did not return anything.

My trial version must be convertible though because the button convert
exists and when I hit it it asks me for a key.

The installation of Office 2000 may well have left a couple of install

"Office 2000 Professional Setup (0004)_MsiExec.txt"

Here on my system there is this file, and it contains the PID key that I
typed in when installing Off2k.
It's an entry, "Property(C): PIDKEY = (what I typed in)".

You may be lucky and find this on the system(s) in question, a text
string search for "PIDKEY" may do it.

Good luck

rpm question...

> Dude, you need to lean to use yum.

Nod.

Right now your ftp command is downloading every single RPM every single
time and then stepping through each one to determine if it needs to
upgrade or not. If there are intermediate updates (you are on 1.1 and
there are .2 and 1.3 on your FTP site) it will do all the intermediate
updates (most unecessary).

When you initialize a yum repository, it builds an index on the server
(FTP or HTTP). THe client downloads only the index and then downloads
only the RPMS it needs (and the dependencies) to get the job done.

in /etc/inittab and see how many "*getty" lines there are - you would need
to press the Alt and Fn key where n is one number greater than the number

3. If 2. fails, does pressing the left Ctrl, left Alt and the Backspace
key restart X?

4. If you _don't_ run X (try a text based login), do you have problems?

5. Could you be having hardware problems? Temperature mainly. Could it
be power problems?

6. Get a bootable CD distribution like Knoppix, or even a rescue floppy
system like Toms RootNBoot (tomsrtbt at any sunsite mirror in the
../system/recovery/ directory) and try running that. Does the system still
lock up?

7. Check the consistency of your software. As root, run the following
command "rpm -Va > files.2.check" look at the 'rpm' man page under
the VERIFICATION section - you are looking for binaries that fail size
or MD5 checks,

8. Does pressing the 'NumLock' 'Scroll Lock' or 'Caps Lock' key cause the
lights on the keyboard to toggle?

Red Hat installers and desktops

Posted: 06 Jan 2005 01:25 PM PST

this one's pretty easy :)

anaconda'll install packages (it might even un-install?). to run
anaconda insert, for example, disc one of FC3. your choices, roughly:

1.) remove linux partitions/clean install/something similar

2.) make sure not to pick "desktop" type of system...pick custom.

3.) anaconda'll prompt you for which packages you want. pick, for
example, x windows and don't click KDE or gnome. you could even choose
the "minimal" install at aprox. 510 mb of hard drive space.

after installing, for example, the "minimal" you can then then add
packages to your hearts content.

some options:

A.) re-insert disc one of FC3. use anaconda to "upgrade" your existing
FC install. add packages (such as X windows).

B.) more hard core would be to use grub. IIRC the syntax is "grub
install", "man grub" on that probably. it brings up a list of packages
from redhat, which it downloads and installs for you.

C.) even more hardcore, ftp the sources and compile yourself.

in terms of windows manager, swordfish comes to mind as being
lightweight.

As root, 'ls -lA' in the home directory. Repeat for the users. You are
missing the 'dot files' that configure X for the users. I suppose you
could also have a permission problem to the global configuration files
normally found in /etc/, but I'd expect to see error messages for that.
You could (as root) use the non-graphical login, then use 'strace' to
see what files are being opened when you start X. Try

strace -eopen startx > /tmp/some.file.name

and then review that file and see that the user has access, or has their

Works 2000 won't open Task Launcher?????

Hi Lil,

I have Works Suite 2001 on a WindowsMe operating system.

Works calendar data is in file mswkscal.wcd, located on my system at
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Works. Copy this file to a
safe place for backup.

I think for Windows 2000 and XP mswkscal.wcd is located...
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Works.

I also think on Windows XP the Application Data folder is a hidden folder so
be sure to tick "Show hidden folders and files" in Folder Options.

page is about 40% bigger than on the screen.

.wps document borders don't show in received emails

Posted: 10 Jan 2006 04:57 PM PST

Found on PrimoPDF forum by micmos85:
http://forums.primopdf.com/showthread.php?t=367

Alright, I think I've got a simple, working solution. I had the same problem
but have now installed and printed on both Win98 and WinME.

Just a warning, on Win98 the installer overwrites my msvcirt.dll file with a
WinXP version that doesn't work. You may want to back it up first. I had to
restore it with the sfc utility.

1. Install the program normally.

2. Copy the primomon95.dll and primomon.hlp files from the C:\Program
Files\activePDF\PrimoPDF\primomon directory into the C:\Windows\System
directory.

3. Add this entry to the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\Print\Monitors\PrimoMon]
"Driver"="primomon95.dll"

4. Repeat step 1.

After re-installing, I had a working PrimoPDF printer on both Win98 and
WinME.

I hope the installer gets fixed soon, but this seems to work in the
meantime. Hope this helps.

Microsoft Works 4.5 to 8.0

Posted: 10 Jan 2006 08:15 AM PST

Hi Wayne,

The word processor in Works 8 does allow database fields to be
selected. However, a major issue with Works (versions post 4.5)
is that, during the mail-merge process, numbers lose their formatting.

Of course, there are workarounds but this should not be necessary
in a suitably-featured Works 'suite' program.

Upgrade Works 8.0

Wordart allows one to put a text over a picture. A textframe does not
have a transparent background. So Wordart is very useful in the Works
Wordprocessor. It is a shame that it has been removed. MS tells us that
it is a 16-bit subprogram. This is a shame in itself in a 32-bit
program. Moreover MS is not at all clear about the security issue that
is the reason for the removal.

I downloaded the patch, but decided not to apply it.It is too much of a
downgrade.

wmf files in works 2000

Hi,

My wkpr60.exe digital signature and/or certificate info also displays
expired(11/24/03). However when I installed it in 2003 it was valid.

You mention error message stating missing files, have you thought about
using the clean up utilities?

In reference to works update detector and wkufind.exe, "Answer That Work"
has some info about them, see the following....

MS Works Spreadsheet - Printing Issues and Out of Memory

In addition to Ken, there may be a situation in your \Temp folder causing this
problem which would be corrected by deleting the contents of that folder. Only
do this immediately after a reboot.

How to get Word to put docs from attachments into Recent files list

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 01:58 PM PDT

I often open Word files from attachments, without downloading it to my default directory. Just opening them up from the temp files directory into Word. occasionally I want to go back and view them, but they are not in the recent files list. Is there a way to get Word to put those files in the recent folders list, so I can still go back and open them up from within Word, w/o having to go into my email, and then search for them?

How can I correct an apparent shortcut or auto formatting issue?

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 01:32 PM PDT

Hello,

I am typing a cookbook of my mother's recipes as a Word document. I insert a quote mark  ["] for the number of minutes to bake an item. I inadvertently did something because now when I try to insert quote mark (Shift + ") it types something like << (except the arrows are very close together).

I have several separate Word documents open and it is only happening in one document. I assume it is an automatic formatting or shortcut issue but I cannot seem to find out how to disable it.

Thank you for any help.

MS Word crashes every time I try to print

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 12:30 PM PDT

Every time I try to print a document in Microsoft Word, it crashes and I have to close the program down. I have ran a diagnostics (I tried this several times) but the problem is still unsolved.

This problem doesn't seem to happen in other programs such as Excel. Now, when I have to print a document I have to save it as a pdf and then print it through Adobe Acrobat.

Thanks.

P.s. I am using Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

Path cannot be used for 'security reasons'

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 11:49 AM PDT

I have a networked drive (mapped to S:) where I keep most of my files.    I'm running Windows 7 and recently started using Word 2010.

I want to make my networked drive "trusted" so I don't have to "enable editing" on my Word files.     "Allow Trusted Locations on my network" is checked.   In the Microsoft Office Trusted Location dialog I've checked "Subfolders of this location are also trusted"     But regardless of whether I use the drive letter S:\  or the folder path, S:\SharedFiles, I still get the same error message - "the path you have entered cannot be used as a trusted location for security reasons. choose another location or a specific folder."

What exactly does this mean?     I've seen all sorts of discussion on the web about this with people trying various folk-remedies like using UNC paths, editing the Registry, running word "as administrator", etc.   Some of them seem to work for some people and not others, or not work at all.    I'm sick of playing games -  where does Microsoft document these things?

Thanks in advance.

Constantly Not Responding

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 11:15 AM PDT

My Microsoft Office, particularly Word, is constantly not responding and it doesn't seem to matter what I do.  From simple things like changing the font , inserting a symbol, or switching tabs to more complex things like switching the dictionary from English to Spanish while I'm typing.  In the past 5 minutes it has stalled out at least 10 times and it's getting way past the point of ridiculous.

Is there anything I can do to get it to work properly?

Opening existing blog posts not working

I am trying to use the blog posting feature of Word.
Posting to my Wordpress blog from Word works fine.
Using "Open Existing" from the Ribbon does not list any of my posts.
Post published from Word do not show up in its recent documents list.

Maybe this is the same bug as in LiveWriter.

Userform toolbox suddenly empty!

Posted: 22 Sep 2013 02:00 AM PDT

Baffling. Went to create a new userform and found the Toolbox consists of 2 tabs, labeled Page1 and Page2, both of them blank -- that is, devoid of controls.

Happens in all my existing .dotm templates, as well as in new ones I create.  I can copy controls from existing userforms, but not to the toolbox (circle-slash symbol appears when I try).

I don't recall ever seeing 2 "pages" in the Toolbox, and I'm sure I didn't add one.

It's not the templates: copying any of them to my other machine (identical Windows & Word versions) shows the full normal toolbox, and the (one) 'page' on it is labeled 'Controls.'

No problems with Excel userforms, only Word. No recent software changes. What went wrong?!  Userforms are my life....kind of.

Hello,

I am noticing that the font that I use in my word doc, CMU Serif and Espinosa Nova are bitmapped when saved to a PDF. I would like to know how to avoid this. When I turned off the "bitmap when font cant be embedded", the fonts showed up in a different font on my PDF. I also need it to not bitmap, so that the document will be searchable. Thanks!

How to construct a List of Tables which includes table description when APA 6th drops a line from the Table 1 before showing the label of the table -

Posted: 21 Sep 2013 05:36 PM PDT

Hello Microsoft Word users.

I am using APA 6th for my dissertation and I noticed that because APA 6th has the Table number and the table label on separate lines when I try to form a List of Tables by going to  References -> Insert Table of Figures -> Caption Label -> and complete the function all that comes up is

A list that  looks like this Table 1 ..................................... (6)

This is how APA 6th insists on Tables being labelled ...

Table 1
The Basic Emotions

Is there anyway that I can modify the Table of Figures function so it can actually include the label of the table when it forms its Table of Figures so the end product looks like this

Table 1 The Basic Emotions ............................(6)

It works fine when making a list of Figures - mostly because APA 6th does not insist on dropping a line after writing Figure 1.  so Word is works with picking up the full label.

For example Word automatically picks up this when it forms its list of figures

Figure 1. Percentage of response time for each Wellness Capacity ........................................................(10)

Any help would be most gratefully appreciated - I cannot be the only person who has come across the quirks of APA 6th Table labelling and trying to form a list of Tables in Microsoft!

Kind Regards
Lionelgee
