My firewall, or somerhing could be causing this, but also these computers are working remote and not part of the domain, so that could also be problems. It this case, as I have a store bought cert and have it requires SSL, the only downside is typing in my creds when I start up outlook. recieving too many NDR messages without sending emails Posted: 18 Apr 2008 12:50 AM PDT Just like Lanwench said, there is no way to block these specific NDR's while letting in other, legitimate NDR's. The problem lies in the SMTP specifications, the people who originaly designed SMTP didn't take into consideration all of the nasty things people would want to do with email, including spoofing a FROM address. Over the past few years there have been some attempts to fix this with things like SPF/Sender ID, and others, but until the *entire* Internet adopts these solutions and uses them constantly FROM address spoofing is here to stay, which means that NDR backscatter (that's what it's called when you get the NDR even though you didn't send the original email) is also going to continue to be a problem. One thing I've noticed on Exchange discussion boards and email lists, this NDR backscatter problem seems to have really picked up over the past month or two, I suspect some spam operation has been running a massive spam campaign using a large list of legit email addresses to spoof the FROM address. It said that you can have a single CA for mulitple domains. Does that mean that I would have mulitple CA's for each domain? Remember the I am in the parent domain, there are transitive trusts between them and the child domains. The E5.5 server is also in the parent domain, so everything is local to me except the remote DC's. Please tell me there is another way.... Thanks for your assistance. email routing Posted: 16 Apr 2008 02:16 PM PDT I try to make it short and clear: - Yes, we do have 3 MX records and all of them are accessible - there is no problem here - problem is that we had so far 2 instances where email from external domain (2 different domains) sent to us was bounced to original receipient, when we as the other end domain to involved their IT as we cannot troubleshoot their end problem (to some extend only) they discovered that their exchange server was trying to do smtp conection to our public website IP - our public website IP is different then our MX IPs, this particular IP they were trying to connect never had MX record for our domain does this make more sense? basicaly their mail server is trying to exchange email with our public webserver. if this is still not clear here it is again IP 1 - has MX, A and PTR record - mail server IP 2 - has MX, A and PTR record - mail server IP 3 - has MX, A and PTR record - mail server IP 4 - has A and PTR record - web server 2 different domains recently had instances where their exchs were trying to send email to our webserver (IP4) how??! there is no MX record. Those orgs IT also confirmed that if they do nslookup for our domain MX records, there is no IP4 listed anywhere... odd part is that in both of this instances email was orginally sent to group of people and bounced back as NDR only for our domain, sender then forward same message this time only to receipients from our domain and all works ok! I would say it is DNS issue but how this is possible? where their exch server is getting this from and again we never ever had MX for this IP address (IP4 webserver) "Ed Crowley [MVP]" wrote: |

I would contact them directly and ask for a patch or update to permanently resolve the issue based on what MS has communicated to you. In a multivendor solution, compatability issues become more complex. For any vendor, before applyiing a service pack check the supportability matrix for other vendors' products in your environment. It a good idea to have a test or QA environment (even a virtual one) available to test updates as well. John "patilp" <microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com... |
"Send As" Permission Posted: 09 Apr 2008 02:56 PM PDT Thanks very much. That would be a great article... except that we use Exchange 2003, not 2007. Unfortunately the comparable TechNet book doesn't contain a comparable chapter. And the instructions for using the "Exhcange Management Console" don't seem to have any equivalency in the 2003 "Exchange System Manager". The approach using AD U&C is closer, but we'd already tried that. It looks like we have given the user permission -- they even appear as a delegate. But can they actually Send As? No. Maybe I should ask the question a different way: What is the difference between "Send As" and "Send on behalf of"? If I have both permissions, how do I control which way I am sending a given message? Thanks again! David H. "Oliver Moazzezi [MVP]" wrote: |
