What version of Exchange?

If they're just in your 'connections' it isn't a relay issue - someone is
trying to send mail to you. Could be a spammer, might not be. It isn't a
relay issue then, tho.

How can I turn off Validation

He said that when spammers try sending mail to my server that they can check
to see if an email address is valid on that server, if they get a response
that the email address they are attempting is valid then they will start to
send the mail. Basically a check to see if the address exists on that server.

wrl001

Posted: 16 Jun 2013 12:53 PM PDT

I am using office 2010, and I have found a problem of Word file saving . Every time when I click "save", the file can be saved normally at the first time. But when I click it at the second time, I found it has popped up a window and asked me whether or not save as the name of WRL001. tmp. and after clicking cancel saving, the whole file has been changed its name into WRL001. How can I avoid this problem? I just want to make it normal, which means every time I click Save, and do not change my file's name and do not pop up the window.

Thank you!

Word 2007. While copying a small letter i followed by parenthesis and s and pasting to a blank document, it the small i often becomes a capital I. Keri's becomes KerI's and such. It's been happening to me probably from the first, but each time I saw the doc, I just assumed that was what the original read. Now upon further investigation I realize that isn't the case. I don't see anyone else mentioning this.

Word does not open a file (xml ilegal caracter)

Posted: 15 Jun 2013 06:30 AM PDT

Hello.

I made one file in Microsoft Word 2007. Then I took the file, putted in a micro-sd card and edited in an android tablet. To edit the document in the android tablet I used Olive Office Premium. I wrote some new words in the document and pasted some images in the document. After this I took the micro-sd card and inserted again in my computer. I tried to open the document, in the document, with Microsoft Word, and appeared the message that the file cannot be open due to xml ilegal caracter. I tried already "Open and Repair" and it did not work. I tried to open the document with Open Office and it does not work. I can open the document with the WordPad, but it doesn't open the complete document. It opens only 4 pages. The document has much more pages.

How can I solve my problem? In there any solution?

The document contains images.

Thanx

[discuss] Proposal for a New OpenOffice.org Art Project

Hi Alexandro,

okay, I see the problem. :-)

As far as I got, you got some sort of approval from most of the people,
that taking a second approach to initiate art as a separate project
could be an idea, am I right? IIRC, Louis also shared that position?

I don't know how to establish a new project, but in my opinion, there
are two questions we should ask:

- Who will coordinate all of that (some sort of Lead/Co-Lead, so to
say)? Are you willing to get involved in that?

- What timeframe do you plan?

Because it extends much deeper than using sub-pages.

Which was my main motivation in moving to FOSS back in the late 90's.

Personally, I do not find it undervalued, but I do find it a paradox in

No. I can't stand it. However, I seem to observe that MS boosters in
various so-called IT depts absolutely love poking and prodding the same
bugs again and again.

One can make a strong case that one of the main reasons Novell Netware
lost marketshare to MS in the late 90's was that Netware more or less
ran by itself and needed little or no attention. Often leaving no
ongoing technical crises to keep staff on.

Hmm. I was thinking the exact opposite. Based on my observations in
institutions and businesses that *do not* use software as anything much
more than a glorified typewriter or calculator MS is used not because it
increases productivity, but rather the opposite. The more a department
depends on computers for work and communication, the more burden it
becomes. In otherwords, it's a way of throwing sand in the gears.

Which is fine. However, at the same time they spend countless hours
paying overtime for something that never quite works.

In contrast, using FOSS or even a hybrid like OS X allows the machines
to be installed and forgotten, thus permitting everyone to get back to
work.

[discuss] OpenOffice being sold on eBay

Posted: 17 Jul 2007 11:13 AM PDT

marie kavadias wrote:

Free can mean one of two things:
* Libre:
* Gratis;

1: Libre

The Free Software Foundation has defined "Libre Software"
as that which meets the Four Freedoms.
* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it
to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a
precondition for this.
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your
neighbour (freedom 2).
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your
improvements to the public, so that the whole community
benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a
precondition for this.

Debian-Legal, to determine whether or not software meets
_The Debian Free Software Guidelines_, has devised the
following tests:

* "The Desert Island Test". Imagine a castaway on a desert
island with a solar-powered computer with an Internet
connection that can't upload. This would make it impossible
to fulfil any requirement to make changes publicly available
or to send patches to some particular place. This holds even
if such requirements are only upon request, as the castaway
might be able to receive messages but be unable to send
them. To be free, software must be modifiable by this
unfortunate castaway, who must also be able to legally share
modifications with friends on the island.

* "The Dissident Test". Consider a dissident in a
totalitarian state who wishes to share a modified bit of
software with fellow dissidents, but does not wish to reveal
the identity of the modifier, or directly reveal the
modifications themselves, or even possession of the program,
to the government. Any requirement for sending source
modifications to anyone other than the recipient of the
modified binary in fact, any forced distribution at all,
beyond giving source to those who receive a copy of the
binary would put the dissident in danger. For Debian to
consider software Free it must not require any such excess
distribution.

* "The Tentacles of Evil Test". Imagine that the author is
hired by a large evil corporation and, now in their thrall,
attempts to do the worst to the users of the program: to
make their lives miserable, to make them stop using the
program, to expose them to legal liability, to make the
program non-free, to discover their secrets, etc. The same
can happen to a corporation bought out by a larger
corporation bent on destroying free software in order to
maintain its monopoly and extend its evil empire. The
license cannot allow even the author to take away the
required freedoms.

Some people who work with content have added the following
test:
* DRM Dave's Hardware Platform:
Can Bob & Alice upload non-DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice download non-DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice download DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice upload third party DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice download third party non-DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice play first party non-DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice play third party non-DRM content?
Can Bob & Alice play third party DRM content?

If all of those conditions are met, then it is Libre.

2: Gratis

Whilst software that is Libre can be distributed Gratis,
there is no requirement to do so. A major issue with FLOSS
is the creation of a viable revenue stream through product
sales. The person you sell FLOSS to, can turn around and
burn a million CDs, either selling them for whatever price
they so desire, or just giving them away.

OOo is distributed under the GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC
LICENSE Version 2.1, February 1999.
As such, it meets the requirement of Libre.

You can download OOo from
http://download.openoffice.org/index.html.
* There are vendors who will charge for downloading the
program from their website;
* There are vendors who will charge for the CD or DVD;
* There are vendors who will charge a per seat license fee;

How much you pay has no bearing on the amount, or type of
support you receive. I've seen CD vendors charge $0.99 and
provide one hour telephone support. I've seen CD vendors
charge $500.00 and provide no support at all.

TANSTAAFL: There is the implication with FLOSS that one will
support the community. The Debian Social Contract is the
best known of the formally defined "contracts".

MS Office X translates PPT to Word

Posted: 10 Jan 2008 12:41 PM PST

Further to Daiya's comments:

What happens if you open them from within PPt using File> Open?

If that's still a problem;

Are you sure they are .ppt files rather than .pps or some other type?
What does Get Info tell you about the file?
What PC version of PPt was used to create the files?
Were they sent "naked" or were they zipped?

BTW: Just for clarity there is no "Office X 2004 - v. 10.1.6" - If it's
10.1.6 it's Office X, there's no 2004 about it. Office 2004 is a completely
different version (11.x) of Office:-) Also, if you're at 10.1.6 you are
behind in updates - current is 10.1.9 which may make a difference. You can
get up-to-date from either program's Help> menu or from the Mactopia web

In Office 2004 you can drag over or use the installer. Both ways will
require the "first run" to trigger. This installs fonts and preferences.
Some are invisible files like your CD Key.

Run "Remove Office". Not sure how you removed it before but simply trashing
does not get all files. Next, in System Preferences create a new User and
give it admin privileges. Now boot from this new User.Try to install. Does
this work. If not, then download and run the 10.5.1 updater. As a last
resort you might have to do an "Archive & Install" of the OS.

Apple - Downloads - Mac OS X Updates - Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update
<http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update

A tip: When updating, use Software Updater to inform you of updates, but go
to Apple's downloads page and get the standalone updater.

Luckily this doesn't happen to everyone. With Leopard there are more
problems being reported because Office uses the base OS files to work. Some
Leopard users have run into problems because of the permission issues and
other faulty system files causing havoc.

Can you drag it over. Yes and know. Office will sense certain files haven't
been run and trigger the 'first run' which could land you back in the same
place you are now.

| Hi..............,
| It is very unlikely that your file exists, it has probably gone.
|
| You may do an advanced file search for all files that were
| created very near to the time of the system crash and ascertain
| if any of the files are likely to contain the remnants of your work.
|
| The message came to inform you that the system had crashed.
|
| The option to send a report to Microsoft is a way of creating a
| database of faults, and hopefully for Microsoft to provide fixes
| for them. (Details are available when the message shows ).
|
|
| When typing long documents it is prudent to save every 10 to
| 15 minutes, the amount of time for which you would not wish to
| repeat the typing. It is also prudent to save in serial order, such
| that you may retrace your steps , if need be.
|
|
| Perhaps create a file and save it as Deanna1.wps (say), type for
| 10 to 15 minutes and save again. Type for another 15 minutes and
| save as Deanna2.wps and so on.
|
|
| Good luck in your search ...
|

Using Address book for Holiday mailing

Thanks! In a million years, I'd never have realized that there were two
separate word processors... It makes me wonder why I didn't find this in the
help files.

Hi Chuck,

I do not believe that there is a user-configurable setting for the
Footnote font that can be saved in a template file.

You can select (individual) footnotes and format, as required.

| Thanks. I'm doing that.
|
| What I am asking about is that Works persistently goes back into TNR at
| every opportunity. So if I make a footnote, down at the bottom the font
| is TNR, regardless of what I was using in the major text. I'm not
| asking for Works to match every and any font I might use. I just want
| the default font to be something else.
|
| I am not familiar with modern computer architecture, but I have gotten a
| sense that "decisions" and procedures in software are specified
| somewhere. I'd like to find out where that is and change it if I can.

Date & Time merge problems

Posted: 04 Dec 2004 08:02 PM PST

Kevin, after looking at my "DATE" forumula, I found that it did not handle
12:00 AM to 12:59 AM correctly. I showed as "0:00 AM or 0:45 AM, etc.).
Here is my fix (also includes you correction to the AM / PM part):

=STRING(HOUR(timefield)-12*(HOUR(timefield)>12)+12*(HOUR(timefield)=0),0)& LEFT(":0",1+(MINUTE(timefield)<10))&STRING(MINUTE( timefield),0)&CHOOSE(HOUR(timefield)<12,"
PM"," AM")

Thanks again for your time.

Thanks again - and thanks to all who responded to my query!

Works 4.5a and calendar pop up reminders not working

Posted: 04 Dec 2004 10:55 AM PST

Hi Horatio,

Open Works Calendar and set a reminder to occur, say, five minutes
into the future.

Close Works Calendar.

Locate the file WksCalRem.exe and double-clicked it, this should cause
reminders to be monitored. Although nothing appears to have happened
the program is loaded into memory and is monitoring the reminders.

If it is operating correctly the new reminder should appear shortly.

If the reminder is displayed, then placing the shortcut into the Startup
folder should do the same thing.

The Startup folder ensures that you will not have run WksCalRem again,
it should happen automatically,on each and every Startup.

| Hi Kevin,
| Thank you once again for replying. I located the file:

| The reminders still open up when I open Calendar. Weird? Have you any

which works to buy

Posted: 03 Dec 2004 10:45 AM PST

Thankyou,
That certainly is a plus.

| I guess I should have been more correct: iCalendar not iCal.
|
| iCalendar is a widely accepted internet standard for calendar data exchange
| (its RFC 2445 if you are interested). Think of it as a standard for how
| calendar data can be represented. It means that any program that supports
| the iCalendar format can share data with other programs.
|
| For example, Works, Apple iCal, Mozilla Calendar, Outlook, etc can all
| exchange calendar data using the iCalendar format. It also means if you go
| to a site like www.icalshare.com you can download things like sports team
| schedules, etc and they will all show up in your calendar.
|
| hope that helps

Microsoft Word - I still not understand in depth about paragraph alignment

Microsoft Word - I still not understand in depth about paragraph alignment

I still not understand in depth about paragraph alignment

I still not understand in depth about paragraph alignment.

In my screenshot, 2 paragraphs in 2 columns have same formatting (Alignment: Justify) but last line of each paragraph is different. Help me explain about this different. Thanks!

font size settings seem to be "off" somehow

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 12:33 PM PDT

I'm using Word 2010 with Windows XP, and have the font set at 12, however it looks too small on the screen.

When I increase the font to 24 for example, it looks like font 12 on the screen.  However, it prints out very large.

I first noticed this problem after I set up a new printer.  When I tried to print something off the internet or an email, the print would be very tiny and only a small portion of the image would show up.  I called the printer manufacturer (Brother), and they said the problem was with the internet provider.  I ended up changing internet providers.  Now I can print fine from email or internet, but Word documents are not printing properly.

Any suggestions as to what I might try to fix this problem.

Thank you

Keyboard locked

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 11:11 AM PDT

On start up windows installer kicked in, just updated to new windows installer.  Only in MS Word the keyboard entry seems to be disabled.  All other functions seems to be normal, but cannot enter any test from keyboard.  Cursor is locked to first position in upper left corner of new document.  Opening an existing word document works but keyboard is locked so cannot edit document.  When word art is selected allows me to enter text into text box but not into the document itself

cross reference to heading style

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 07:54 AM PDT

When you put in a cross reference to a heading style and toggle the style you get something like this:

{REF _Ref358983731 \h}

Where does this number come from and can it be changed to something more recognisable?

How to use word 2010 to write and edit equations in a doc file

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 08:12 AM PDT

I save the document as a doc file, but all equations become figures.
Is there any way to create a doc file in word 2010, such that the equations are still editable? Thanks.
