ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR, CAN I RECOVER DOCUMENT???

Posted: 08 Dec 2004 08:49 PM PST

By the way,
there are a myriad of ways to prompt you to save ,

An oven timer, alarm clock etc etc.

or, Just set the time of your local Anti Virus Program to do an update
in 20 minutes or so, when the screen prompt appears
cancel , re set in another 20 minutes, and save your Works file.

Saving your file will soon become second nature ALT F / S

| G'day LD,
| Firstly, it is considered shouting when one types in Capitals,
| please type in lower case in future.
|
| You sound as if you knew you were supposed to save periodically.
|
| here is a response from Google which just about covers all losses as yourself.
| It is a very common problem with MSWorks (the early versions)

| Hi..............,
| It is very unlikely that your file exists, it has probably gone.
|
| You may do an advanced file search for all files that were
| created very near to the time of the system crash and ascertain
| if any of the files are likely to contain the remnants of your work.
|
| The message came to inform you that the system had crashed.
|
| The option to send a report to Microsoft is a way of creating a
| database of faults, and hopefully for Microsoft to provide fixes
| for them. (Details are available when the message shows ).
|
|
| When typing long documents it is prudent to save every 10 to
| 15 minutes, the amount of time for which you would not wish to
| repeat the typing. It is also prudent to save in serial order, such
| that you may retrace your steps , if need be.
|
|
| Perhaps create a file and save it as Deanna1.wps (say), type for
| 10 to 15 minutes and save again. Type for another 15 minutes and
| save as Deanna2.wps and so on.
|
|
| Good luck in your search ...

Using Address book for Holiday mailing

Thanks! In a million years, I'd never have realized that there were two
separate word processors... It makes me wonder why I didn't find this in the
help files.

Hi Chuck,

I do not believe that there is a user-configurable setting for the
Footnote font that can be saved in a template file.

You can select (individual) footnotes and format, as required.

| Thanks. I'm doing that.
|
| What I am asking about is that Works persistently goes back into TNR at
| every opportunity. So if I make a footnote, down at the bottom the font
| is TNR, regardless of what I was using in the major text. I'm not
| asking for Works to match every and any font I might use. I just want
| the default font to be something else.
|
| I am not familiar with modern computer architecture, but I have gotten a
| sense that "decisions" and procedures in software are specified
| somewhere. I'd like to find out where that is and change it if I can.

Date & Time merge problems

Posted: 04 Dec 2004 08:02 PM PST

Kevin, after looking at my "DATE" forumula, I found that it did not handle
12:00 AM to 12:59 AM correctly. I showed as "0:00 AM or 0:45 AM, etc.).
Here is my fix (also includes you correction to the AM / PM part):

=STRING(HOUR(timefield)-12*(HOUR(timefield)>12)+12*(HOUR(timefield)=0),0)& LEFT(":0",1+(MINUTE(timefield)<10))&STRING(MINUTE( timefield),0)&CHOOSE(HOUR(timefield)<12,"
PM"," AM")

Thanks again for your time.

Hey, Ken - I downloaded the app you referred to and have already used it to
convert the file that has been the subject of my post - so far, so good - in
fact, so far - wonderful!

Thanks again - and thanks to all who responded to my query!

Works 4.5a and calendar pop up reminders not working

Posted: 04 Dec 2004 10:55 AM PST

Hi Horatio,

Open Works Calendar and set a reminder to occur, say, five minutes
into the future.

Close Works Calendar.

Locate the file WksCalRem.exe and double-clicked it, this should cause
reminders to be monitored. Although nothing appears to have happened
the program is loaded into memory and is monitoring the reminders.

If it is operating correctly the new reminder should appear shortly.

If the reminder is displayed, then placing the shortcut into the Startup
folder should do the same thing.

The Startup folder ensures that you will not have run WksCalRem again,
it should happen automatically,on each and every Startup.

| Hi Kevin,
| Thank you once again for replying. I located the file:
| C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared.
| Unfortunately it would not open. I tried double clicking and right clicking
| and choosing Open but unfortuately with no success.
| The reminders still open up when I open Calendar. Weird? Have you any
| other suggestions or shall I call it a day? It is very frustrating as it
| used to work OK.
| Thank you once again.

which works to buy

Thankyou,
That certainly is a plus.

| I guess I should have been more correct: iCalendar not iCal.
|
| iCalendar is a widely accepted internet standard for calendar data exchange
| (its RFC 2445 if you are interested). Think of it as a standard for how
| calendar data can be represented. It means that any program that supports
| the iCalendar format can share data with other programs.
|
| For example, Works, Apple iCal, Mozilla Calendar, Outlook, etc can all
| exchange calendar data using the iCalendar format. It also means if you go
| to a site like www.icalshare.com you can download things like sports team
| schedules, etc and they will all show up in your calendar.
|
| hope that helps
