Do you have any disks for the Office installations on your other computers?
The OEMs should have provided you with the installation disks - when you try
to install Office 2003 and it asks for your previous qualifying version,
just plop in the old disk, point the installation to it, and you should be
good to go.

Try logging in windows as administrator. My have to log
on in safe mode to get administrator option. Press F8 on
reboot.

Hello Tonyo,

The issue may cause if
1. The CD is not clean OR
2. It is corrupted.

So, the options to resolve the issue are:

1. Clean the CD and try the installation again. OR
2. Copy all the files from the CD to a folder on the Hard disk and try the installation from there OR
3. Run the installation from another Office 2000 setup CD.

Office Professional for Windows 95

If you have MS Office v7/95 then the yellow sticker should show 11 digits along with the "CD Key" words and there wouldn't be any
product activation.

If you have Office 2000 or later you're installing you would have 25 digits.

Are you sure that the CD you're using and the program that's popping up are all from the same version? Check in Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows control panel to see what Microsoft Office applications and versions are listed.

Open Windows Explorer; select TOOLS - OPTIONS - VIEW tab - select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS - click OK
which will display all the hidden folders and you can find the required folder(s).

Automatically Opening Images in WORD from Another File

I have a large WORD document - a book manuscript - that has some 250 illustrations.  I originally inserted these images into the WORD document, but it became too large for WORD to open.  I saved it but could not open it.  I solved this problem by removing many images and placing them in a separate file.

I can create a hyperlink to the images in this file but it shows as underlined blue text.  When I click on this hyperlink, it opens the file with Adobe Fireworks.

How can I code the hyperlink so that it opens in the document as I open a page and then disappears when I go to the next page.  I need to be able to see the illustration when I am looking at the particular page, but want only the hyperlink in the WORD document to keep the size small enough to save and open in WORD.

Word 2013, Use and purpose of "Show Comments?"

In Word 2013 on the Review Tab>Comments Group, there is a contol labled "Show Comments."  On my PC it is dimmend and I've tried everything that I can think of to enable this contol and (I guess) toggle contents between shown and hidden comments.

 

When I insert a comment, they are either shown in a ballon on the right side of the document or inline depending on my setting in Review>Tracking>Show Mark-up>Balloons.

What is the purpose of this control?  How is it activated?  What determines when it is active or disabled?

When I did a "select-all" inside the footer containing footnotes, it selected all footnotes plus all of the footnote reference numbers. Thus when I modified the font for footnotes, it also changed the footnote-reference which I did not want to do. How can I modify just footnote-reference numbers without effecting footnote fonts?

word 2010 freezes and crashes while saving

While working on any Word document, if I try various tasks like setting margins, printing the document, or saving it as a pdf, Word crashes and I get a message: "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in WINWORD.EXE[--number--]. No installed debugger has Just-in-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Sudio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time".
I don't have Visual Studio.
I have tried scanning with Windows Defender and my Panda anti-virus software; found two viruses, one a Trojan, removed them, but the problem has not gone away.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Office (I am using a trial version of Office Professional Plus), I have tried a repair of Office 2013 from "Programmes and Features". I have used "CCleaner". Nothing helps!

Templates in Word

Hi all,

I'm using Word 2010 with Windows 7, 64-bit. One year ago I wrote a manual in Word 2007 for a company. Last week, they needed to re-purpose the manual, that is, make a copy of it, edit it, and then send it to me for a final edit. So here's the document's path in the past year:

1- Designed on my computer using Windows XP, Word 2007, and the Normal template. (Clarification -- I just upgraded my system to the one mentioned earlier back in the fall.)

2- The document (written in Windows XP, Word 2007, and the Normal template) is sent to my client, edited, and then sent back to me.

3- The client loads it on their computers and performs their edits. They use Word 2010 and three engineers add coments.

4- They save it as a .docx file (the same as the orginal), and then send it back.

5- I make a copy to work on. (I never work on orginal docs, just in case of a major error.)

6- The copied document is loaded on my new computer (Word 2010 with Windows 7 64-bit) for editing.

 

Problem -- When I scroll through the document, the pictures and tables become segmented, that is, table rows split up and "hang" on the display appearing as though they've been duplicated. It gets worse the more I scroll. When I close the document and re-open it, all's well. The data is intact, but the same thing happens. The document is not workable.

 

My solution -- I opened the copied document (remember -- this is the one the client edited) but saved it as an .rtf file. Now when I open the .rtf file, it's workable and the problem has pretty much gone away.

 

My thoughts --  Did my document pick up some template anomaly from the client's Word versions? Can shared documents between several computers undergo template layering, that is, where two or more templates combine?

 

Between this problem and Microsoft's pathetic bullet and numbered list style issues, I'm ready to tear out my hair! The whole world needs to move over to FrameMaker! End of rant. Many thanks in advance.

How to boot Fedora from XP NTLoader?

Thanks for all the advices and help. Really appreciate them a lot.

Few days ago when I did this installation, it took about 1 hour. The
system works out of the box. It correctly detected my video card, LAN
card, even my thumb drive works out of the box. It's really amazing
how good Linux is now!

So, I decided to reinstall Fedora, because I haven't done any
customisation, it's still in the fresh install state. And I also want
to learn to do it right from the start.

It's very slightly more fun. A file can easily and is frequently
"hard-linked", so a change in one file means a change to the other and so
that deleting one file does not delete the other. A directory can be
"hard-linked", but this tends to break a *LOT* and is almost never done.

My kernel supports nfs.

Huh, he wants to recover data, not destroy it. The fs exists and may be
fine, he needs to recreate the partition table. mkfs will remove the

There are programs out there that will attempt to reconstruct your
partition table. If you can get back into linux, man lilo [-U]

If the only critical data is on the Fat16 partition and it was
/dev/hda1, use fdisk to recreate the partition so it is larger than what
you had before. Back up data and fdisk, do a

dd if=dev/zero of=/dev/hda1 bs=512 count=4

reboot and reformat. Windows will reformat to the previous size if you
don't zero the first sector even if you change the partition size.

If you need to get info off of other partitions you'll need to find the
start of the partitions and recreate a partition that starts there.
(before formatting of course.)

Good Luck and once you are back up and running implement a back up
policy.

Group policies, he has to set those Priviliges for the
user accounts. If they are standard you can not "alter
the Quick launch" options.

And it is indeed a neglectable task to have to alter this
for each user everytime when they want to add one.

Try pressing "F8" repeatedly when Windows is first booting. That will bring
you up to the boot screen. Choose "Safe Mode". That will give you the
Administrator option.

I've created a template (.docx) and have created 'styles' associated with it.  Somehow, I managed to get the specific styles on the  Quick Style ribbon and when I try them, they work.  My problem is I can't seem to keep them!  What I mean is if I save it as a style set, yes the styles appear on the ribbon, but the formatting of them is all screwed up.  I've tried 'modify'ing them and  click on 'new documents based on this template; and yes, I save the document, but it doesn't stick.  I'm obviously missing a step, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what it is.  Can someone help please?  Thanks..

Why can't I insert a table of figures, in addition to a TOC?

Hi,

 

When I go to insert a table of figures (button under References tab, in Captions), I get a popup message saying "Do you want to replace the selected table of figures?" -- while highlighting my ToC.

 

My choices are "OK" (presumably to overwrite my ToC, which I don't want), or "Cancel", which just allows me to back out. I'm not allowed to ADD another table. How come?

I am preparing a series of documents that have a canned text element, including at times a picture, in the bottom half of the 8 x 11 paper.  In the top half, however, each document will be different.  I have the bottom half in place.  But when I begin typing the text in the top half, each line return pushes the bottom half a line down, until it jumps to a new page.

How do I "Freeze" the bottom half so it won't move??

Can I change the number of maximum undos in Word 2010?

What causes the maximum number of undos you can do in Word and Outlook email messages?   Can I change this?

 

I noticed in PowerPoint, there's an option to change the Maximum Number of Undos, but not in Word.  I have also found that when I'm using my laptop at home, I'm limited to about 20 undos.  On my work computer it almost seems as if I'm unlimited, but another person in my company is limited to only 5 undos in his Word and Outlook messages.

 

If anyone has an explanation, that would be helpful.

word 2007 doesn't save size and position of windows when closing

Hot to get Page number form the Index to jump to that page, like TOC

  I would like to find out if the following can be done.  It is as follows:

 

1.  When I create TOC, it gets set up that if you click on page number, document automatically jumps to that page.
     That doesn't happen with page numbers listed in index. Is there any way to have that feature work in index too?

Office Home and Business 2010 Issues -- Corrupted Installation?

I have a couple of problems that have emerged recently.

(1) Page Layout tab in Word and Excel appears corrupted in that it now only shows page size options as A4, Letter, Legal and Custome Size.

All other options such as A5, etc, have disappeared.  I therefore conclude that the aplications have become corrupted in some way.

Up until about a week or fortnight ago, everything operated as expected.

Will appreciate advice as to what may have caused this and how it me be resolved.

(2) Although I have purchased a retail copy of Office Home and Business 2010, have installed it on my desktop PC, and have used it for many months, it now appears that my system may have reverted to opening the OEM original trial version.  I'm not entirley sure about that, but I have attempted to obtain online asistance from Misrosoft Support and when asked for the Product ID Key, the one I identify from one of the applications (e.g. Word or Excel, etc) I get a response that the quoted ID number has expired.  This leads me to suspect that the system is not identifying my installed and registered retail copy. Is my thinking reasonable? An attempted reinstallation also responds thet my Product Key is invalid.

I have installed the same retail copy on my laptop under Microsoft's licence permissions and am not experiencing the same issues as with my desktop copy. Office operates as expected on that machine.

I create forms with fields to send to employees to fill in. I lock the forms so they can't inadvertently change the body. In MS Word 2010, I can edit only the fields. I can't unlock the body of the form I created. I need to make changes to some of these after receiving them from employees. On XP and Vista, there was a "Lock" icon on the tool bar, and all I had to do was click that to unlock, then lock it back after I had made my changes. I have tried HELP, but the instructions don't match what I have on the Windows 10 screen. I can't get my job done until I can unlock the body of the form. Please help!

I am trying to creat a drop down list that will pull other information. A better explanation, I have a drop down list with customer names on it in a script. This allows me to go in and select the person I am talking to or about and see their name in my calling script. What I want it to do is when a name is selected in the box I want the phone number to appear in another location.

Is it wise to create documents without worrying about formatting - i.e. using draft view.  It was suggested that formatting be left until later when reworking the document in print layout.  Is this a wise course of action?

Mail Merge Label Print Problem

I printed 33 Avery 5160 labels earlier in Word from an Excel datasheet (Office 2010) today with no problem (I used the mapping template "Address".  Later today, I wanted to change the formatting of the labels and instead of using the "Address" template, I started 'from scratch' and mapped the fields manually because "Address" did not include 'Address2'.  In addition, I added 4 more addresses (37 total) to the list.  As you probably know, Avery 5160 has 30 labels per sheet, so I would need two sheets.  When I print now, I first get 15 sheets of 'blank' labels and the last two sheets have the first address and the 31st address printed singularly on the first (top left) label on the 16th and 17th sheet respectively.  Admittedly, I must have done something differently between the first print job and the next (three attempts), does anyone know how I can remedy this "blank pages" printing problem?  Thanks...Earl
