Styles & Word 2010

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 10:55 AM PST

I've created a template (.docx) and have created 'styles' associated with it.  Somehow, I managed to get the specific styles on the  Quick Style ribbon and when I try them, they work.  My problem is I can't seem to keep them!  What I mean is if I save it as a style set, yes the styles appear on the ribbon, but the formatting of them is all screwed up.  I've tried 'modify'ing them and  click on 'new documents based on this template; and yes, I save the document, but it doesn't stick.  I'm obviously missing a step, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what it is.  Can someone help please?  Thanks..

Why can't I insert a table of figures, in addition to a TOC?

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 01:38 PM PST

Hi,

When I go to insert a table of figures (button under References tab, in Captions), I get a popup message saying "Do you want to replace the selected table of figures?" -- while highlighting my ToC.

My choices are "OK" (presumably to overwrite my ToC, which I don't want), or "Cancel", which just allows me to back out. I'm not allowed to ADD another table. How come?

Thanks!

How Do I Prevent Text I type at the Top of the Page from "Pushing" Picture Boxes/Other Below It Down the Page?

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 01:16 PM PST

I am preparing a series of documents that have a canned text element, including at times a picture, in the bottom half of the 8 x 11 paper.  In the top half, however, each document will be different.  I have the bottom half in place.  But when I begin typing the text in the top half, each line return pushes the bottom half a line down, until it jumps to a new page.

How do I "Freeze" the bottom half so it won't move??

Can I change the number of maximum undos in Word 2010?

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 12:23 PM PST

What causes the maximum number of undos you can do in Word and Outlook email messages?   Can I change this?

I noticed in PowerPoint, there's an option to change the Maximum Number of Undos, but not in Word.  I have also found that when I'm using my laptop at home, I'm limited to about 20 undos.  On my work computer it almost seems as if I'm unlimited, but another person in my company is limited to only 5 undos in his Word and Outlook messages.

If anyone has an explanation, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

I tried everything but it doesn't seem to be willing to cooperate.
It simply won't save the new settings when closing.
Any suggestions?

Hot to get Page number form the Index to jump to that page, like TOC

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 06:58 AM PST

Everyone,

I would like to find out if the following can be done.  It is as follows:

1.  When I create TOC, it gets set up that if you click on page number, document automatically jumps to that page.
That doesn't happen with page numbers listed in index. Is there any way to have that feature work in index too?

  Thanx in advance.

Office Home and Business 2010 Issues -- Corrupted Installation?

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 02:44 AM PST

I have a couple of problems that have emerged recently.

(1) Page Layout tab in Word and Excel appears corrupted in that it now only shows page size options as A4, Letter, Legal and Custome Size.

All other options such as A5, etc, have disappeared.  I therefore conclude that the aplications have become corrupted in some way.

Up until about a week or fortnight ago, everything operated as expected.

Will appreciate advice as to what may have caused this and how it me be resolved.
------------------------------------------------------

(2) Although I have purchased a retail copy of Office Home and Business 2010, have installed it on my desktop PC, and have used it for many months, it now appears that my system may have reverted to opening the OEM original trial version.  I'm not entirley sure about that, but I have attempted to obtain online asistance from Misrosoft Support and when asked for the Product ID Key, the one I identify from one of the applications (e.g. Word or Excel, etc) I get a response that the quoted ID number has expired.  This leads me to suspect that the system is not identifying my installed and registered retail copy. Is my thinking reasonable? An attempted reinstallation also responds thet my Product Key is invalid.

I have installed the same retail copy on my laptop under Microsoft's licence permissions and am not experiencing the same issues as with my desktop copy. Office operates as expected on that machine.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Any help that can be offered wil lbe greatly appreciated.

I want to somehow enter the diacritic marks for Sanskrit (these are often dots beneath or above Roman characters).

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 04:45 PM PST

I use Microsoft Word on my Desktop. I want to somehow enter the diacritic marks for Sanskrit (these are often dots beneath or above Roman characters).

Is it possible with the software I have ? I would rather not fool around with downloading some special program.

Also, for clarification, I don't need to use Sanskrit characters but rather I want to use diacritical marks with Roman characters.

Thank you very much for  patient reading and prompt guidance in advance. I really appreciate it.

Where is the Lock icon? Windows 10.

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 04:04 PM PST

I create forms with fields to send to employees to fill in. I lock the forms so they can't inadvertently change the body. In MS Word 2010, I can edit only the fields. I can't unlock the body of the form I created. I need to make changes to some of these after receiving them from employees. On XP and Vista, there was a "Lock" icon on the tool bar, and all I had to do was click that to unlock, then lock it back after I had made my changes. I have tried HELP, but the instructions don't match what I have on the Windows 10 screen. I can't get my job done until I can unlock the body of the form. Please help!

Drop Down Lists

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 03:27 PM PST

I am trying to creat a drop down list that will pull other information. A better explanation, I have a drop down list with customer names on it in a script. This allows me to go in and select the person I am talking to or about and see their name in my calling script. What I want it to do is when a name is selected in the box I want the phone number to appear in another location.

For instance:

Hi this message is for John please contact Mr. (drop down box name) at (222) 223-2222 <------- I want this info to populate when the name is selected from the drop down box.

I am tech savy but not familiar with this particular scenario.

should i work in draft view and format later in print layout?

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 02:29 PM PST

Is it wise to create documents without worrying about formatting - i.e. using draft view.  It was suggested that formatting be left until later when reworking the document in print layout.  Is this a wise course of action?

Mail Merge Label Print Problem

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 07:06 AM PST

I printed 33 Avery 5160 labels earlier in Word from an Excel datasheet (Office 2010) today with no problem (I used the mapping template "Address".  Later today, I wanted to change the formatting of the labels and instead of using the "Address" template, I started 'from scratch' and mapped the fields manually because "Address" did not include 'Address2'.  In addition, I added 4 more addresses (37 total) to the list.  As you probably know, Avery 5160 has 30 labels per sheet, so I would need two sheets.  When I print now, I first get 15 sheets of 'blank' labels and the last two sheets have the first address and the 31st address printed singularly on the first (top left) label on the 16th and 17th sheet respectively.  Admittedly, I must have done something differently between the first print job and the next (three attempts), does anyone know how I can remedy this "blank pages" printing problem?  Thanks...Earl

Due to email security. Alot of companies have configured their email

this would than make the email look unprofessional (red x box's around the

Also of anti spam software title html emails as **SPAM** (of configured to

Right now CRM 1.2 does not track the transation history. It is possible to
have crm call your code after an update called a post callout. The idea that
it completes an operation then runs your code so you could log to a database
for example

Offline users and synchronization

Posted: 30 Jan 2004 11:54 AM PST

Further to what Rick says, they'll have to synchronise manually, by
selecting Go Online to connect to the CRM server, and then Go Offline to
force a synchronisation. So I think the answer to the original poster's
query is actually "no", in that this won't work like Gold-Synch (which I
assume does it automatically). But it's possible for the sales reps to
synchronise manually at regular intervals, so they don't need to be online
for very long.

Watermark is stuck; unable to remove

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 08:26 AM PST

I have a document created in MS Word 2007. I originally added a "DRAFT" watermark to the document.  I've now gone in and selected "Remove Watermark".  It removed it from every page except page 2, which has my Table of Contents (TOC).

I've tried deleting page 2, including the TOC, but then the Draft appears on the new Page 2.

I've tried deleting page 2, including the TOC, then inserting a blank page & recreating the TOC.   It still appears.

How can I turn of the watermark function.  It's driving me crazy!!!

I have gone into Control Panel, Programs and features where the 2 following MS Office programs are:

Microsoft Office Click to Run 2010   &    Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student

When I click on Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student, I click change. A message appears with ''Repair Click to Run Manager, Would you like to Repair?''. Here I have selected to repair and also to repair with all user settings deleted.

In both cases it says MS Word has been successfully repaired, and then when I try to open Word, then the same error message comes up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can resolve this?

Appreciate your help

Why do I get a totally blank PDF file whenever I try to convert any (Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, Version: 14.0.6029.1000) Word document file containing either Mangal Fonts (Hindi) and Tunga Fonts (Kannada) into a PDF file (by using Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Version: 10.1.4, Program File Size: 1790 MB, Complete/Full Version) after formatting and reinstalling all the necessary software / softwares (Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB)?

http://forums.adobe.com/message/4917700

I'm using

01) Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

02) Computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00 GHz, 504 MB of RAM

03) Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB

04) Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, Version: 14.0.6029.1000, Product ID: 82503-388-0792296-26607, Program File Size: 490 MB

05) Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Version: 10.1.4, Program File Size: 1790.00 MB, Complete/Full/All Version/Features has/have been installed

06) Windows Internet Explorer 8, Version: 20090308.140743, Program File Size: 4.20 MB

Any Word 2010 document file that has been converted into any PDF File unfortunately does not show either the Mangal (Hindi) Fonts or the Tunga (Kannada) Fonts.

The PDF file will unfortunately become/remain totally/fully/completely blank.

When I convert an Excel Workbook having the Tunga Fonts (Kannada) to/into a PDF File, some of the Tunga fonts in the PDF file are legible and some are unfortunately illegible (get superimposed / overwritten on each other).

Perhaps I may get the same result if I try to convert an Excel Workbook having the Mangal Fonts (Hindi) to/into a PDF File with some Mangal fonts being/becoming legible and the rest being/becoming illegible (getting superimposed / overwritten on each other).

Thanks for answering, Milly ... however, outlook.pst is not going to
preserve my email account information (servers, connections, userIDs,
passwords, etc) ... that's the kind of thing I'm trying to figure out if
Office 2003 is going to inspect, preserve and restore when it installs; I'm
also wondering if it will do the same for other preferences ... like default
document directory for Word, Excel ..

Replacement CDs for OEM MS Office XP

Posted: 02 May 2004 05:51 PM PDT

Computers have insurance. MS has a replacement policy if
you purchase the software from anyone but the
manufacturer. Point is, why pay full price for software
from a vendor, Dell et.al., when you can purchase the
same from anywhere else and receive the assurance that
your CDs can be replaced. Dell doesn't tell you that when
you purchase your software in good faith.

MDAC 2.8 installed fine on my SBS2003 box, but installation on my XP client gave me the roll-back problem that is described as a known issue and I should contact PSS. Should I contact PSS or MSDN, as the software I am using comes from MSDN DVDs?

Install Office 2000 on XP

If you Office came with yr sys, as an OEM copy then I'm afraid licence is
tied to origonal sys and is not transferable. - It may even be that the OEM
supplier has configured the install to prevent it installing on anything
other than origonal.
Or it may be simply a question of you entering the wrong key or missreading
it.

Problem with EULA popup window

Posted: 30 Apr 2004 07:58 AM PDT

Hi James,

Besides Gyorgy's suggestion, I would suggest you have a check to see
whether the new machine has other version Office installed.

In addition, please find the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0 and right-click and go to
permissions, make sure that ADMINISTRATORS and SYSTEM had full control set
to allow.

Hope it helps.

Must I download Office Service Pack?

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 01:40 PM PDT

We recommend installation of service packs to ensure that your system stays
secure and to prevent crashes. Users who have opted in to Microsoft "Error
Reporting" send data to us about their crashes. We then fix the bugs which
cause crashes most often and push out these fixes in Service Packs.

As it turns out, the list is a bit smaller for XP.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290540
There are generally three rules for upgrading to Office XP:
a.. Office 97 suites and Office 2000 suites are the only valid upgrade
products for the Office XP suites. You cannot use the Academic Edition of
Office 97 or Office 2000 as a qualifying product.
b.. Office 97 stand-alone products and Office 2000 stand-alone products
are valid upgrade products for the Office XP stand-alone products.*
c.. Office 97 suites and Office 2000 suites are valid upgrade products for
the Office XP stand-alone products only if the Office XP stand-alone product
is included in the corresponding Office 97 suite or Office 2000 suite*.

Office 2003 will not read past files?

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 08:45 AM PDT

I just upgraded a windows XP/office 2000 computer to office 2003 and now any file I try to open is now unavailable/ could not be found, is there any eplanation for this or should I take 2003 off and leave 2000 on??

Brando

I have the same problem with old Word files and get the following error when opening Excel files
The file cannot be opened because your virus scanner has detected a problem with the file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no success

Pet

Have you tried opening each of the apps by using their icon. Do this first because a small install is run to
create the hkey current user section of the registry. then try double clicking the docs

Mik

I have tried that option, and no different still can't access my files. I do also get the same error as the post above me with the Excel documents. Then on top of it I get warning when I shut down Word that states changes have been made to the template normal and trys to make me save the changes. Even though I have not touched a key, Any one have any other ideas??????????????

First run of Office product

Baker,

Thank you very much,
will go hunt out the ork as you suggest. thanks

can download from the microsoft website.
configured the way you want it, save the template then run
the office custom installation wizard to pickup the
template. this can be done from a cd or installation
point. the custom install wizard (CIW) gives you heaps of
options like dropping extra files into your install,
setting custom directories, configuring outlook, lots of
great stuff. It even saves stuff like changing macro
security (because it's default set to block, not prompt).
