Office 2007 Set-up in corporate environment

Posted: 29 Apr 2008 10:00 AM PDT

Hi J.,

You may want to review the information on this in the Microsoft Office 2007 Resource kit,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179140.aspx on elevated permissions.

The actual installation of Office 2007 is done from the Local Installation Source (\MSOCache folder) after that folder is created on
the individual PC. The folder is created in the same drive as the \Program Files\ entry for Office. In addition, Office setup
writes files to the registry and to both the Windows folders and the \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared.
In addition, Office writes a let of temporary files during installation so be sure you have your TEMP= and TMP= system variables
pointed to a location that is neither write or deletion protected.

The permissions required for running Office are listed in this article.

==========
Hello All,
I'm project lead on the upgrade of our Office system here from Office
20003 to 2007. For the last week I have had trouble installing the
application. I kept getting an error during the first part of the
installation claiming that a certain file on the installation DVD
could not be found. When I browse to the file, I get an "Invalid
Location" error.
That being said, I was able to resolve this issue: Our office PCs are
set-up with the archaic C/D drive partition, & setting the C-drive to
READ ONLY for non-admin users. Even if you are logged in as an Admin,
you will not be able to install Office 2007 unless the C drive rights
are changed to allow writing ability for all users. By "unlocking" the
C-drive, I was able to successfully install the software.
Now, this is an over-all issue because the manpower required to
temporarily remove the C drive protection to install the application
would be ridiculous. And, by setting group policy to allow writing to
the C drive, I leave open some security holes (again, I understand
this is not the most efficient security system we have, but it is out
of my hands). So, I need to figure out which folder on the C drive is
being created &/or written to so that I can set group policy to allow
User write rights to that particular spot only.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If this does not make any sense, let me know & I can re-clarify.

Thanks much!

Installing an Office product over another version..........

Thats what I thought, but I wasnt sure. I didnt think it would remove. I
was concerned that it would remove Access because the client has software who
uses it.

It sounds like you had a trial version and it was never changed. Now
the trial is over. Are you sure it did not ask you about that?

Is your hard drive split into a C & DD drive partition? If so, make
sure the security on the C drive gives all users full write rights. I
was having the same probem & by temporarily adjusting the security
settings on the C drive, I was able to install the software.

Office 2007 Enterprise set up successful but Help will not work

Thanks taking the time to reply...
I got my Enterprise copy sent direct from MS - because my company has so may
users they cannot support the HUP installations as well as managing the
company wide rollout and use...
Just out of interest what would your reply have been if I had omitted the
word Enterprise from my question.

Office Enterprise 07 Installation help

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your help. Is there a special way to do that? I am not really
sure how I would have done that in the first place.

Thanks

Separate Office settings for different users

Thanks. My new questions are:
1. in what folder should normal.dot reside?
2. if I have MS Office already installed, how to I make it recognise a new
user?

Thanks/gary

Office Pro Trail Won't Install Because OutLook Is Not Present??

OEM Editions of MS Office 2007 trials are often 'hybrid product' editions (i.e. it includes both Student/Teacher and 'Professional'
trial editions).

You may want to try the steps in this article to remove things and then restart and try the installation.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I have no Outlook installed. When I got
the laptop two weeks ago, it only came with a trial version of Office Stu &
Home 2007. That is the dilemma.

Some coding somewhere in the MS maze seems to make the Pro trail installer
THINK Outlook is installed. That is why I was wondering if there is some
cleansing file that deletes whatever coding is confusing the trail installer. >>

office enterprise 07 wont install on vista home premium

Doesn't work like that unfortunately, support is from MS not the employer.
Anyway, MS support said DVD was corrupted & suggested I download the trail
version and use the product key that came with the DVD. Worked ok
