identity of spam sender in logs Posted: 22 Jan 2007 05:35 AM PST In news:45b4bd95$0$4873$com, tt <com> typed: AFAIK, the SMTP logs don't show you the full message headers, but will show you the sending server, who the message purports to be from, and to whom it was sent. If you can open a message when it *is* delivered, you can view the full headers. If it wasn't delivered, why worry about it? |

I have been on a steep learning curve with SBS and Exchange and didnt want to add another component into the mix. As ever my appreciation for sharing your expertise Geoff |
Posted: 21 Jan 2007 06:20 PM PST Thanks for that Bharat, I have taken the liberty of attaching a log file (snipped version) which looks suspicious to me. The From line shows <> as the sender. (10:32:41) Am I on the right track. If not, what should I be looking for? -- Len "Bharat Suneja [MVP]" <org> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... |

Exchange Server 2003 Evaluation Software? Posted: 19 Jan 2007 09:06 AM PST ....thats what I thought. It was version "c" of the 2400 course, it came with a CD with the practices etc. on but no evaluation software. I'm going to check back through my Technet DVD pouch when I get back to work tomorrow, but I've downloaded an eval of Exchange 2007 to take a look at too. OWA Login Prompt, how to stop it Posted: 17 Jan 2007 10:55 PM PST Well, I did make a note of the post from Lee D, which is what you need. Unfortunately I'm a little pressed to go through the groups and dig it out for you. I know it's there and I know it's less than a month old or so. |

Posted: 16 Jan 2007 01:22 AM PST Copy/paste of my answer from m.p.e.admin: -- No, there is nothing interesting in event viewer. And I cannot use old account for starting services, because it was deleted from AD, and I cannot recreate that account, because some services are still logged as "old" user. It is clear? :-) Bad situation. I can reboot the server, but it is not a good idea, before I clear the situation completely. -- Old account was deleted accidentally. I have a problem with Connector for "Lotus cc:mail" and "Event" services, but I think the others has the same problem. I'm just afraid to restart remaining services before I've understand what's going on. -- WBR, Andrew V.Chernov |
Can't send email from some locations while on the road. Posted: 15 Jan 2007 12:58 PM PST No it doesn't Require Different Profile. (Assuming he's only Connecting to 1 Exchange Server and the rest POP3) The Main Account is the RPC over HTTP And You can Create Rules if you want mail from Different Accounts to go into Different Folders. Posted: 15 Jan 2007 09:50 AM PST Thanks for that, However the limits are set to 90 days but they don't do anything. Is there any way to force the folder limits? Thanks, Nick "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" <donotsendme.unsolicitedmail.atyahoo.com> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... |
Intelligent message filter for spam Posted: 15 Jan 2007 07:10 AM PST In ESM, GLobal Settings you can go to the properties of Sender and Recipient filtering (I get confused as to which one and only have a 2007 folder) But in there you will be able to see where it says not to accept messages from the following domains. You do ban your own domain. That just means you ban it from coming in anonymously. You are not banning your BE sending the stuff to your FE and your FE sending it out. |
Posted: 15 Jan 2007 05:21 AM PST Geoff, I would definetly make this static. Alot of companies will drop connections from dynamic IPs, you can use software such as Dynsite and a service such as http://www.authsmtp.com/ to use a dynamic IP address however it is far far easier to have a static IP address !
