Why not install the i386 kernel and built a i586 one on your own, or download the i586 package David showed? Beside that RH 9 is EOL since nearly a year. Better get your hands on something supported. There are various distro freely download-able (www.distrowatch.com) or so. I'd try Debian (Sarge), runs like a charm on older systems. Doesn't cost you more then downloading the 100 MB .iso and a fresh CD-R to put it on. It leaves you with a text based install, you can install GUI/etc later from the internet with 'apt-get'.
