Manually Uninstall Office XP

I don't have an uninstall option that I could find, although I've seen this
feature in Office 2003.

Moreover, it's not part of Office: you can use it in any program.

Restore Outlook Icon to Desktop

Posted: 17 Jun 2005 05:56 AM PDT

Detect and repair has not worked in our case. Here's the real fix.

Add this key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

It adds back the original icon with the correct right-click
functionality. Creating a shortcut is NOT the same thing.

Thank you for your time and effort. When I searched the Microsoft database,
this did not show up!. Thanks again!

There's another important reason for keeping old programs. According to the
EULA, if you buy an upgrade program, you're required to own the qualifying

Of course, you know the practical reason.

office 2000 - feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable

Jason,

1. It makes no differenece if the user has Admin permissions on the
workstation.

2. I can uninstall Office 2000 sucessuflly.

3. I can re-install Office 2000 and the error goes away.

However, as I said in my orginial post, I'm not looking for a solution that
involves re-installing Office. I know that will work but I have over 100
workstations and I don't want to have to go to each one and re-install
Office.

Here's what I know:

1. The only change to the workstations was removing the computers from the
old domain (Windows 2000) and adding them to the the new domain (Windows
2003).

2. The users have admin rights to their workstation.

3. The location of the admin installation point has not changed during the
network upgrade. It is the same server, share name, and mapped drive and
the server was not upgraded. It is still a Windows 2000 Server.

4. The user has full read/write access to the admin installation point.

5. Resynchronizing the workstation with the installation point using the
msiexec command or by running setup from the installation point does not
work.

Any ideas?

Fatal Error when attempting reinstall or repair

Posted: 15 Jun 2005 04:22 PM PDT

Hm. It may be that you didn't have enough disk space for a local
installation source. I only know of two cases where it won't be created:
1) if you tell it to remove the setup files at the end of the installation
(in one of the final setup screens), or 2) if you don't have enough disk
space, then it can't create the LIS.

This may give you more information:

Sorry , We are having Site license . That is we can use sam ekey for

licenses we have given. Hence I want that user should be able to enter the

Office Upgrade via GPO and Transforms

Posted: 14 Jun 2005 12:01 PM PDT

Yeah, the first one I know about. I have set up an admin install point with
features that we would want, including the username for outlook, etc. The
second link led me to believe that the only way to make sure only the updates
are brought into the current installation on the client machines instead of a
full reinstall with all of the patches is to run it from cmd line, such as in
a login script with the flag reinstall to only affect the updated
applications. Kinda stinks that you cannot do this in a transform, because
it would be much easier to manage.

Why deploying Outlook after Office resets the patch status?

Posted: 14 Jun 2005 09:20 AM PDT

Hello again,

Yes and not. Yes, I can use CMW to "add" Outlook to the installation but in
this manner the install process CAN'T uninstall old Outlook and I'll have a
big problem (this is stated in resource kit).

I have Outlook outside of the main installation process because Outlook
isn't used in our environment: we use IMAP servers. But some people want to
use Outlook to access these IMAP servers, so I must create an standalone
Outlook installation.

I've "solved" the problem with the patches by applying (chain) the same
patches that I apply in the Office installation but I don't know if this will
result in problems with the Office installation itself.

Any more idea?

Thank you.

installed infopath. Rest of office is 2000. Now OU thinks i'm 2K3

Posted: 13 Jun 2005 10:27 AM PDT

Hi Susan,
Hope all is well with you......just to recap and finish up I wanted to go
back to my original needs. I do need to keep 2000 for a while for work
projects but wanted to get moving with infoPath. I will install the entire
suite soon enough so I'll wait till then for infopath too. The live meeting
statement was a wild guess on my part. It seemed odd to me that the webcasts
were the only thing I found not working after the install as I view them
often and disabling AUTHZAX.dll got them working again. I only tied it to
Live meeting due to the fact both office 2003 adn live meeting had their own
entries for IE. It was just a guess though.....who knows why disabling that
file allowed webcasts to start working after the office 2K3 infopath install.
Someone I'm sure would know but I certainly don't. Just a guess. What
happened was I would go to an on demand webcast, hit register(funny you have
to follow the same steps as a live webcast), login to passport, enter a name
to be known by(again why? it's on demand ) and then when I clicked the icon
that takes you to the final screen that gives choice of wmp or some generic
viewer, it would give me a message that the webcast requested Could Not Be
Found. No matter what webcast. I tried probably 25. Again disabling the IE
component, whatever AUTHZAX is, did the trick.
Lastly, you mention that Microsoft does not recommend mixing Office
versions, however in this one case, I read specifically that InfoPath was
the one app that could be installed with Office 2000. In fact it is supposed
to work with Access 2000 as a data source just fine for example. The article
also talked about using it with SQL 2000 and some other non office 2003 apps.
It was a Microsoft article in an MSDN Flash that contained that info and
prompted me to install it. So my adventure was based on info right from the
source. Ok, i've now told you way more than you needed to know about my
little experience.
Thanks for all your information. This is kind of unique situation but I did
learn some valuable things and feel more confident about 2003 from things
you've said.
thanks again.

Uninstalling MsAccess and Installing MsAccess Runtime

Posted: 13 Jun 2005 06:53 AM PDT

Hi,

thanks for the info.

We have managed to solve this issue.
Running a SP3 update seems to fix this.
I think this is possibly due to the Access Runtime possibly installing older
files than what was previously installed by MsAccess.
We have found that a few machines wouldn't take the SP3 update, this is due
to the Pc not having had the SP1a update.

Unable to install Office 2003; FP 2003 or any 2003 viewer other than PowerPoint 2003 Viewer

I have several computers that won't install Windows Update, and I have no
clue why. I don't have the time to reinstall Windows yet again, so I just
leave them at their current patch level for now. I think I can download
patches individually, but I don't really have time for that, either.
