failures moving/copying public folders from exchange 5.5 to pst with outlook 2000/2003 Posted: 11 Aug 2004 08:58 AM PDT good day. i'm a one-man network shop with exchange 5.5 on nt4, outlook 2000 on win2k, and (seemingly random) messages in the public folders on the exchange that outlook is unable to copy to a pst. searched knowledge base at least 6 different ways, and have been unable to locate anything to help me get the messages copied. when copy attempted with outlook, either 2000 or xp, dialog says "Can't copy the items. Some items could not be copied. They were either moved or deleted, or access was denied." seems to recreate the entire pf structure in destination pst, and moves SOME messages, then quits with "some items could not be copied. they were either moved or deleted, or access was denied." if i restart the move on messages remaining in a subfolder, an unpredictable number (1 or 3 or 20 or 5 or...) will then move. if i restart again with the same selection of remaining messages, it will again move an unpredictable number. repeating this process 1,5,10,80, or 100 times will EVENTUALLY move the entire content of the folder. i am attempting the export in the context of a domain admin and an exchange OWNER. an ipm_subtree folder is created, with the structure of the pf and sub-pfs beneath, with some folders PARTIALLY populated. taking contents of a smaller sub-pf and attempting to move 22 messages to the pst file that i created with the export..... failed with the same export message noted above. then, manually moved the remaining messages one-by-one. when moved singularly, they all went to the pst. moving them from pst back to pf succeeded completely. i need to get the entire pf structure and content to a new site, so trying to remove from server and deposit into pst. any help is greatly appreciated. |

1forest, 1tree childdom and sub-childdom Posted: 10 Aug 2004 01:10 PM PDT That's a horrible set of restrictions you want to impose and out of all the groups you've crossposted to, none of them were Windows groups, which is where you need to be to get a full authoritative answer. As with most things it's just something you need to be aware of and there are several articles found by Google if you enter "cached mode" and Outlook.
