When I set a table cell to Around, and position it at Bottom >Page, the doc then opens to the bottom of the page instead of the top as all other docs do. In trying to troubleshoot this problem, it seems to happen when I position the table 2/3 or more of the way down the page. I am using a single table cell that's the width of the page. I have content controls and a graphic in the table cell, but the problem has occurred with an empty cell as well.

Freezing on Special Characters Insert in Word 2013

Hello,

Word 2013 on my Windows 7 x64 freezes constantly when I try to insert a special character from chart of symbols. As far as I've noticed, it came after installing French spell checking utility, but I cannot say for sure. I haven't installed any third-party plug-in.

Could anybody help me? I would much appreciate it, thanks.

I am in College. I am taking a Microcomputer Applications class. This version of Microsoft came with my book. I began using it in January and it's only March. It no longer works because Microsoft says time has expired and it hasn't. Not only that they say they don't support this version anymore so there is nothing they can do about it? Is this true? Can they really not do anything about one of their own products that does not work anymore? What can I do? I need this for class. Does Microsoft not stand behind their products? I have talked to so many people on the phone and on the internet and there was only one person that really tried to help. This is so sad. You would think they would want to help when it's THEIR product that is not working properly. Is there anything that can be done?

Cannot get fillable form to allow user to format text and paragraph style

I have inserted a "Rich Text Content Control" into the document where I want the user to be able to fill out text, and activated "Restrict Editing" under the Developer Tab, so that no other areas of the document can be edited. However, within the fillable area, I want the user to be able to format the text and paragraph styles as they please. Why is this not working and how can I get this to work?

Macro in MS Word Not Printing Documents in the Order I Selected

In MS Word I print  twelve .RTF  files of various page lengths to produce a consolidated report.  The 12 .RTF files are all in the same directory and are numbered one through twelve.  Using my mouse I can open the directory, open file one, print the report, close the report, open file two, print the report...  When record those mouse clicks into an MS Word macro, the prints do not come out in the order in which I opened and printed them.   I believe that by the time that report number three (11 pages long) loads into the printer, report number twelve (which is one page long) has already loaded into the print buffer first and printed.  Anyway, I'm trying to add a 10 second pause in the macro after each time I click the 'Print' button.   

I added the remarks:

' PAUSE FOR 15 SECONDS STARTS HERE   and

' PAUSE FOR 15 SECONDS ENDS HERE

In anticipation of where I would insert the pause after each report I opened.

Hidden error in headers, footers

Working on a large document that's an update to a previous version. Suddenly, stuff like this will randomly appear in the header and/or footer:

The document has section breaks dividing each numeric section. It doesn't seem to matter if the headers are linked to the previous section or not, I can open the doc and see perfect headers, close it, reopen it and see something like the example above, or I can be scrolling through and all of a sudden a correct header will disappear as I'm watching it and this gobbledygook pops up.

Help - we have a huge delivery next week!

Hyperlink changing in word doc

Hello All!

I have a word document where we have entered a hyperlink in the text.  When you right click on the link and choose edit hyper link, the text of the hyperlink is exactly what is on the document.  When you put your cursor over the link, the link is missing characters, namely a %20.   Does the hyperlink not like the %20? 

What is happening?  Thanks for the assistance!

Track revisions problem

I am working on a document in which I previously made revisions using Track Changes. I had no problems.  I emailed it to a colleague, who further revised it and then returned it to me.  When I now make revisions, I have two problems:  nothing shows in the bubbles, and deletions do not strikeout.  

Neither problem happens if I start an entirely new document from scratch, but if I move the current document to a new one, I lose the color on the existing revisions, and the problems remain.

I hae tried all the options under Track Changes, and am confident I have the correct boxes checked.

Any idea why these problems are occurring, and how to fix them?

Lost unsaved Word file during automatic restart

Stupid me--I forgot to save an important document I was working on.  My computer did an automatic restart to install a security update.  I found the doc in recovery but then it disappeared before I could save it.  Can't find it anywhere.  I checked the recycle bin and found some documents in there.  I chose to have them restored but I cannot find any of them in the folder they were supposedly sent to.  There is still one lone document in recovery so there was not a general delete.  Is there some way to retrieve a document when it leaves the recovery folder?  Help!

I can't get rid of highlighting in my document.

I was typing an outline in Word and highlighted some words. Using "bullets and numbering" I added some numbered entries below the highlighted words and the numbers themselves showed up highlighted. Even though I removed the highlighting for the original words, I cannot seem to get rid of the highlighting on the numbers. 

Does anyone know how to remove the highlighting from numbers created using "bullets and numbering"?

Drop-down stopped working on a Word 2013 Email Mail Merge

I set up a Word 2013 template to mail merge from an Excel file and deliver the merge by email.

The final document included several drop-down boxes with Yes/No options. 

I tested the document several times in house and the recipients were able to hit reply then choose from the drop-down before sending their response.

However, the next time I opened the document, admittedly after making some minor changes like font size, the drop-downs no longer work.  I can still see the grey text "Choose an item", but nothing happens when you click on it.  The emails are being delivered the same way i.e.

I've tried setting up a new document from scratch but it seems I must have changed some setting or done something different along the way.

I've tried an online repair of Word and also ran the update but no change.  Any ideas please?

reuse date and name in Word doc

Hi,

please excuse me if this has been asked before, but much searching has not found the answer.

I am using Word 2007.

I have a form where the date and name are repeated later in the form. I would like once the name and date have been entered the first time that they will apprer later on in the form without the user having to enter them again.

Is this possible?

Word Organogram

Word 2010, Windows 7

I need to create a fairly intricate organogram and have opted not to use the Word "SmartArt|Hierarchy" option as it does not give me what I have in mind.

Instead, I use the standard "Insert|Shapes" option, using primarily rounded rectangles (approx x60) and connector lines.

For this, I have created a large drawing canvas (almost the entire A3 landscape page) to contain all the graphic elements.

For the sake of standardization, I have created a standard size and format rectangle (with text) so that I can copy this as necessary to represent a department/section of the organization.

My problem is the following:

Once I have copied the rectangle and then edit the text, the text in the previous rectangle also changes to the new text.

If however I save, close the the document, then reopen, I am able to change the text without changing the previous text, with the result, for every new text box, I have to close the document and reopen.

Is this a software or hardware problem?

And, is there anything I can do to remedy this other than having to draw and format a new rectangle each time?

Macro to Find and Replace Table Numbers

I work on a lot of reports with numbered tables and figures.

e.g.

Table 3: xxxxxxx
Figure 2: xxxxxxx

I often have to add/delete a table/figure, meaning the numbers are no longer consecutive. I am trying to write a macro to find all instances of "Table *:" and replace this with "Table _n_:", where _n_ is the nth occurrence of the word "Table *:" in the document, so that I no longer have to re-number all of the tables manually. 

I'm having trouble getting the number _n_ and inserting this in the 'Replace' statement though.

I would be really grateful for any help on this!

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D lasptop, about 4 years old. Windows Home Premium 6.1 7601. Service Pack 1. No longer have owners manuals.

Word and Word documents always opened automatically.  I believe the program was something other than Office, because recently a new icon mysteriously appeared beside my documents, which indicates Office, and they will not open.

I can open Word and type something, but once it is closed, it will not open again. Instead, a window opens up asking whether I want to activate, install or buy Office. I have no product key, and don't feel I should have to buy something when I already had a program that came with this computer.

When I click on "open with" nothing shows but Office and WordPad.

HOW CAN I RECOVER MY LOST PROGRAM?

System Restore has not helped.

Mail Merge Problems - Not sending mails in HTML format

Hi guys, I have Windows 7 Ultimate with Office 2007 Professional Plus.

All service packs and updates installed correctly. 

When I try to send email messages using mail merge with word, if i chose HTML format when finishing the merge, nothing will happen. But if i send it as plain text or attachment, it works. I have tried to installed the KB, setting outlook as default mail program, cheking this on the registry, converting the doc to html, and other different stuff that i have found on the internet. Does anyone have any kind of solution to send emails using office 2007?

How do I sign out from One Drive?

I have a Windows 7 computer running Windows 2013.  When using Word, I click "Save As" and can see the option to save files to my One Drive.  The problem is that I no longer remember the password for the account.  I want to know if there is some way to disconnect from the current One Drive account and sign into a new one.  I have searched for a solution to this and have not yet found one.  Please keep in mind that I am NOT interested in resetting the password for the current One Drive account.  I would like to disconnect/remove the current one and sign in with a new one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Copy/Paste options do not prevent reformatting of pasted text inside a drawing canvas within a table cell.

I created a drawing canvas inside a table cell in a WORD document. I populated the canvas with various grapical elements that contain text and also plain text boxes. The font I am using is Calibri, both in the body text proper (outside the canvas), in tables, and inside the canvas.  However, when I copy any element that has text from within the canvas and then paste, also within the canvas, the font changes to Times New Roman.  I have to select the object and manually change it to Calibri font. A real time waster.

What I've tried so far:

1.  Default Font setting

I opened the Font dialog from the top toolbar, selected the Calibri font, Regular (but cleard the font size setting). clicked the Default button, and accepted the change for this document only.  This had no effect on the behavior described above.

2.  Copy/Paste options
I went to File > Options > Advanced > Cut, copy and paste > Pasting within the same document, and  experimented with all three possible settings. It made no difference in the behavior. Just in case WORD somehow thought a copy from within a canvas was from soem other document, I also experimented with the settings under "Pasting between documents." Also, no change in behavior.

StyleRef Field in header breaks | discontinues repeating

Hello,

I am working in a MS Word (2013) table that spans across 23 pages. The Header has two StyleRef fields that display Heading 1 and Heading 2 styles from within the table, all of which are in the same Section. 

The StyleRef field for the Heading 2 style breaks | discontinues repeating the same Heading 2 content to subsequent pages in five of eight pages that use the same Heading 2, after successfully repeating on the three preceding pages. When I toggle the field code in the Header, the StyleRef field displays on those five pages, but the content for the Heading 2 does not display).  The field starts behaving again when Word picks up the next Heading 2 content. (I checked to make sure the font wasn't somehow set to white on just those pages.)

Does anyone know if the issue is a limitation on the number of pages across which Word will allow the same Style content to repeat using the StyleRef field code? This functionality is working with other Heading 2 content in the Header, but none of them are longer than three pages.

Hope this makes sense as described; any help resolving this will be much appreciated.

You dont have to install a qualifying vesion in order to install an upgrade
version, you simply need the qualifying version cd available to point to
when your upgrade instalation complains about no qualifying version
(swap cd's authentiacate, re swap and continue)

I had a problem with Vista Home Premium; my hard drive was wiped clean and
Windows Vista Home Premium (a new copy) was installed. I then installed all

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply, but I'm actually just looking for the command line
parameter/switch to use with the Office 'Setup.exe' to uninstall Groove. Our
network, servers, OS and group policy settings should not be relevant because
the Office setup file is the same regardless of the environment.

The question is, does the Office setup executable have such a switch, and if
so what is it.

It seems that in the mean time I have found another solution. The Office
Setup.exe appears to be a wrapper for multiple MSI files - one for each
component of Office. Therefore I will just use the Groove MSI file to
uninstall Groove by deploying it through System Center Essentials with the
"Approved for uninstall" option.

The sensors are available (the CPU's currently idling at 31°C); all that's
switched off is the monitoring in case of problems.

(Yes, I know, cooked CPU due to fan failure. But then I expect that the CPU
will shut itself down anyway without help from the BIOS before there's too
much of a problem.)

Debian OTOH, should work out of the box when you follow installation
instructions within half an hour, and it is rock solid. Start here:

Yes I did so,
result is that now when making a contract this option in the dropdown menu
is available, but when we try to make a template, this extra value isn't
there!

I can't understand because (so says the Deployement manager) these Dropdown
menu's refer to the same data field, or don't they?

Hi Matt,

I can’t understand why the Business Contact Manager has this feature enabled
to convert a single outlook contact and MS CRM doesn’t.
Do you know if I can customize the import contacts wizard to select only
contacts that match with a specified category?? What I mean is that the user
creates a custom category called "Must be in CRM" and those contacts that
must be in CRM have this category checked, then the wizard only takes these
categorized contacts and no others...

You need to use the Redeployment Tool that can be downloaded from the
support site. Backup/Restore won't work as the underlying SID's from AD
that are stored in the DB will point to your prod OU.

I used to work at GoldMine (FrontRange) and am somewhat familiar with their
data structure. The difficulty in migrating data from GM to MSCRM is that
GM's table structure is difficult to understand. That is because GM was
originally developed before email addresses were commonplace. Instead of
extending their Contact table they added to 2 new tables to accomodate new
fields. (I cannot remember their names). You will need to join the tables
together.

I did a GM to MSCRM migration for a client and that was the only issue that
I ran into that wasnt clear in the Data Migration Framework guide.

I might handle it this way: Make a workflow rule for opportunities that says
when an opportunity is won (and the product equals consulting), then create a
new case. Map some of the data fields from the opportunity to the case
entity, so that when a case is created from this workflow, it will
pre-populate some of the data for you. Use the case tasks to track your time.
When you resolve the case, the time logged for each task is totalled, and you
could report on that. This would give you the ability to create some good
reports about your conversion rates from opportunities to closed cases.

Crystal also stores the key in your register when installing crm. It might
be that you can still find the key there. Its in this location:
HKLM - Software - Crystal Decisions - 9.0 - Enterprise - Keycode - default

Within the value of this key, there is a part which is in this format:
00000-0000000-0000000. This is your key.

Advanced Find and Replace Query

So I'm cleaning up some texts, and they have fancy hyperlink "Page X" in little grey boxes interspersed through the document. This document is quite long, and I don't want to take them all out by hand. However, I can't seem to create a find a replace that hits page + ascending number, nor can I make one that takes out the hyperlink after I F9 reveal it -- the final } when I do that is some strange format that the find and replacer can't locate. 

Any tips?

Mail merge - Multiple rows in single document

I have an excel file with 100 Rows to create invoices for diferrent project by using mail merge.

. I am trying to populate a table in a word document from multiple records in spreadsheet as part of my mail merge.

As an example:

The first 40 rows need to be in the first document based on the details available in particular column in my excel sheet , the next 7 rows go into another document etc.

Could you pease help some to do the same in mail merge

I would like a Word document or template that I can pass around a small office to look at a variety of style and theme settings. Can someone point me to a report that has many of the options that might be used like quotes, numbered lists, a table of content, an index, etc.? I'm looking for something that we can all sit around and look at on screen and choose a set of styles and fonts that we would all use for an office template. I've looked at a half dozen or so templates but none that I have found so far have more than a couple of pages.

Bubble content not readable

In my document, the content in the bubbles, using Track Changes, is not readable. It is either an extremely small font, or just short little horizontal lines. I've tried every thing I can find or think of to make it possible to read the bubble content, especially for comments.  "Show comments" did not help.  How do I make settings that permit me to read bubble content?

As the post title says, Word por-up an error always I open the document: "This document contains links that may refer to other files. Do you want to update this document with the data from the linked files?"

I tried to break links, rename the document, etc, but the error is persistent. It follows a screenshot with more detail:

Office 365 - Newer but not better

I cannot be the only ordinary consumer to be so deeply frustrated at the mass of faults with office 365.

It is graphically a dogs breakfast, has a confused UI and is full of ways to make what used to be easy now needlessly complicated and unstable.

I have simple lost count of the hours I have wasted trying to work with the applications that were previously so much more manageable and I have lost work countless times with hanging, dropping out and glitching.

The result is so unsatisfactory and leaves consumers struggling to de-bug and fix troubles that really should never have been there.

If you didn't know any better you would probably think this is how it is going to be; but really,  could no-one at Microsoft realise that when you make something newer your customers also expect it to be better.

So unhappy with this mess I now have to work with.

Has anyone got a summary of sensible measures to address the obvious faults that no doubt most users are struggling with?

and why, by the way do I have to select from a list of categories which do not apply in order to be able to post anything??

...so the negative comments are hidden away no doubt :(

Issues with Word Compatibility Pack after installing OneNote

I work in a school where we have Office 2003 installed and the appropriate compatibility pack installed so staff with newer versions of Word at home can open documents in school.

I recently installed OneNote on my class computer and since then, docx files that open on other computers won't open.

Can anyone think of a reason for this? I really don't want to uninstall OneNote as it offers a really simple way to get photographs from my iPad on to the computers.

Mail merge using outlook 365 on my server

Hello friends,

A friend of mine owns a company and 5-6 users are using the same contacts groups found in office 365 - exchange (cloud).

He needs to create a mail merge every now and then using this shared contact group.  The problem is that the user might be the one or the other each time.

I have tried to make mail merge using his PC (MS-Word 2013) using outlook  contacts and works just fine. 

If i move the mail merge template to another PC it doesnt work properly since it looks in e.g. C: userABC....

Is there any way to make mail merge using the contacts directly from outlook 365 (cloud) or any other way to have this mail merge in the server?

Word-Drop Down List

Within a Word document, I would like to have an outline.  I would like to have hidden information under each of the bullet items that would appear with the drop down list function.  So, at first all you would see would be the box with the drop down arrow and when you click on the arrow the next level of bullets would appear. It is just a hidden list you don't have to select anything from the list.  Then, the list could close and you continue  reading the Word document until you come to another bullet with a list to view more information.

It would function similar to what I see on this entry screen where you have:

Category:

-Select One- (drop down arrow)

Then, the list appears. 

My example:

  • Opens to contact view (drop down button here)
    • Use icons to switch views
    • Can manually change status
  • Find and add contacts (drop down button here)
    • Type name, department or title in search bar
    • Right click, Add (can select multiple, can search groups)
    • Can create a new group
    • Click New to see who has added you

Adding page numbers to a book

Is it possible to add page numbers to a book that are printable?  I seem to always get hung up in the header/footer situation where the numbers can be seen on screen but will not print.  Do I simply forego words on each page to insert a page number or is there another way?  TY

I've run into a problem with Word and Excel on multiple computers, both at home and at work, in which Word and Excel files won't maximize from the task bar after you open them. It has only happened to me with Office 2013. It seems to occur when I already have a document open in Word or Excel and then try to open a second or third one of the same file type. The solution I've discovered is to click on the "Restore Desktop" button in the very righthand lower corner of the monitor. After doing that, the window comes right up the next time I try to maximize it.

I think Microsoft missed a bug in their program.

Placing text boxes over a table

I'm trying to make what seemed like a relatively straightforward document using Word 2010. The basic premise is that it's a schedule to show timelines for various projects planned for the coming fiscal year. I have created a table that shows the main objectives on the left and the months at the top. I then tried to just overlay some text boxes over the month cells to show each individual project and its expected planning period.

However, it seems the way Word anchors text boxes makes it nearly impossible to do this, as the text boxes get anchored inside cells and they jump all over the place when moved around, especially when trying to place two text boxes close together. I cannot even use the cursor keys for precision movement, because moving a box, say, to the right will cause it to shift to the upper right or lower left or god knows where else. Is there any way around this behavior?

2013 Office Language Preferences

Hello,

I have installed Office 2013 Home & Student and updated the language preferences, however I am unable to have Word edit Portuguese (Portugal).

This language appears as Enabled/Installed (showing the ABC editing check mark) under File>Options>Language, but this is not the case when editing the actual document, where the ABC check mark is no longer visible during language selection.

I do not have a problem with English, French or Spanish.

All proofing packs (Portuguese & Spanish) have been downloaded as the x64 version. I have restarted my computer, but there is no change. I am not sure why the language can show within Word 2013's Options as Enabled/Installed/editable language, but not so when actually editing a document.

I was prompted to install the proofing tool (which I already have as mentioned above) while typing as the program was not able to proof my text. This was after setting Portuguese as Default and restarting Word, but with no effect.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you beforehand.

Microsoft Word App

HI,

I started a document on the Microsoft Word App for ipad yesterday.  Closed the app, watched some netflix, went to bed.  Finished the document today, went to the store to get a USB stick...came home and its like the document never existed.  It must have saved because it was there today after closing the app last night.

My assignment is due tomorrow.  I've tried reinstalling the app and logging into my onedrive, its like the document never existed!?!?

Any suggestions...otherwise I'm up all night starting from scratch and never using a microsoft product again!!!!
