Make formfield show 3 characters

Posted: 10 Apr 2013 01:12 PM PDT

I have a form field that is designed to have a number (001, 002, 003 etc) typed into it. I know you can prevent additional characters from being added by limiting it to 3 characters from the properties menu. When I do this and type 001 into the form field it auto corrects it to just read 1. Is there a way to get it to show the first two zeros?

Exclude square brackets in citations to references numbered with square brackets

Posted: 09 Apr 2013 03:37 PM PDT

I am using a company template in which references to other people's work are numbered in such a way that the numbers are enclosed in square brackets.  I don't want these square brackets to show up in the citation.  Is there a way to accomplish this?

For example, I want to cite 3 references like this [3-5] instead of like this [3]-[5].  I can do the former if I manually type the square brackets in my citations rather than having it done automagically for me by the cross-reference.

Make an image clickable

Posted: 09 Apr 2013 02:33 AM PDT

Hi,

I have a QR-code in a document. When the document is printed the QR-code should be scanned and the person scanning it will be taken to a website with a video. However, when the user opens the document in Word I would like him/her to be able to click the image of the QR-code and be taken to the website.

I tried to accomplish this by selecting the image, pressing Ctrl-Alt-H, and entering the URL that should be opened. However, when I hover above the QR-code I do not see the message that I could click it.

I made a signature for my email that contains the QR-code. When you hover above the signature's QR-code you DO have the possibility to click the image and be taken to the website.

What do I need to do to get a clickable image in Word 2007?

Mail Merge, when merging multiple records to the same start document template, How do you keep the layout from shifting?

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 11:18 AM PDT

While using Mail Merge, I'm trying to create multiple documents off a source .csv file and a previously created Word start document.  The first record works great however after that the layout shifts for the following records.  So for example the Date data is now pushed out of the Date field area and now shows in the name field area.  How do you keep the layout after the first record is merged?

configuration of word archives

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 09:37 AM PDT

Every time I open a word document (Word Home and Student 2007) it takes around 3 minutes to "configure the necessary archives".
This happens only with word and NOT with the rest of Office programmes.

What should I do to open my word archives avoiding this configuration?

Office 2003 pro question

Posted: 25 Jul 2004 08:12 AM PDT

Office 2003 (any version) will only run on Windows 2000 SP-3 or Windows XP.
Previous versions of Office will run on most other versions of Windows,
except for Office XP which will not run (in most cases) on Windows 95.

Office is a business productivity suite that runs on top of your operating
system. For instance, Office 2004 will only run on Mac OS 10.x which is an
operating system. Open Office and Star Office will run on multiple
Operating Systems, such as Linux, Windows, Mac (only OO.org on Mac, not sure
about Star Office, but I think not.)

Think of this as a house/furnishing scenario. You need a house (walls,
wiring, roof, etc.) into which you can place furniture and appliances.
Windows is the house, Office is the furnishing.

You'll want to talk to the IT Department at your university. They manage
such licensing programs and can get you set up with the software your
University has licensed.

Indented quotes have different spacing before and after

Posted: 09 Apr 2013 08:29 AM PDT

I'm writing my dissertation in Word 2013 and I have several indented quotes. However, the problem is that the space or gap before and after the quote are different, very different. For example, I would have a paragraph like this then which is 2.0.

"An indented quote here which must be 1.0" (Me, 2013)

And then continue on with 2.0. But the spacing before and after are not the same.
Any ideas how I can rectify this? Many thanks in advance

ps Dissertation due this Friday 12th April so before then would be much appreciated!

How to differentiate from Word document and Word templates?

The icons for a word document and word template are the same so if you name them the same there is no way to know which was is a document and which is a template. If the icon could be made different as it is in the desktop Word that would be great!

Getting rid of iwantsearch.com as default browser

your
Any
go to the iwantsearch.com site and scroll down. At the
very bottom you will see 'terms' click on this and you
will see uninstall options at the bottom of the page. The
first option is to go to your control panel>add/remove
programs and find "SB Soft" and remove this. If this
fails there is an uninstall link that you can download
from the 'terms' page and this seems to do the trick.

Ctrl A, E, I, and U Aren't Working (Word 2007)

Posted: 07 Apr 2013 02:06 PM PDT

Hello, I noticed recently that all italicizing, centering, underlining, and selecting all aren't working on my Word documents. This is only for Word, not Notepad or PowerPoint. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this...

A few days ago, I added a few shortcuts to make it easier to type out Chinese pinyin-- but only the vowels (i.e: Ctrl-I,4 for the letter 'i' with a grave accent). Another thing worth mentioning is that bolding (Ctrl B) and right-aligning (Ctrl R) are working just fine, and coincidentally don't include vowels...

Any help on how I can get the non-working shortcuts back to normal? (I use word a lot and find it a hassle to have to manually click the icons...)

Thanks!

Incorrect figure number when using Insert Caption

Posted: 07 Apr 2013 11:34 AM PDT

In Section 1 of a report I have four figures.  I assigned figure numbers for the first 3 figures without any problems:  1-1, 1-2, 1-3.

The fourth figure should be 1-4, but, using Insert Caption, I get 0-1.

Any idea on what could be causing the problem?

Thanks

Why do unicodes sometime appear as squares?

Posted: 06 Apr 2013 10:44 PM PDT

Specifically, I've copied and pasted musical notes from Microsoft Word to rename the Music category in the Start menu. Also, a few .wma files in Windows Media Player are labeled with kanji, hiragana, and/or katakana as they were ripped from import CDs.

Quite often, those unicodes will become squares. I used to think it had something to do with being online since that is when they'd appear as squares. However, I recently discovered that being offline will garner the same result. I started my laptop yesterday to find that Windows apparently couldn't read the unicode in the Start menu (didn't even bother checking WMP). I wasn't online and I use an air card to do so.

I posted this question in a forum regarding Windows (7 specifically), but I was eventually directed here. I was also told to download Microsoft Safety Scanner. I did, performing a Full Scan. Files Infected: 0 "The scan completed successfully and no viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software were detected."

I've had this issue for about 2 years. Windows Defender (currently off), Microsoft Security Essentials (currently active), and a 3 month trial from third-party antivirus bloatware (uninstalled) have never detected any virus, spyware, or other potentially unwanted software.

I was also told to run my laptop in Safe Mode. I did, but couldn't find any culprit. It did seem to fix the issue, but that was short-lived.

Any ideas? What's causing unicodes for the renamed category in the start menu and those in WMP to appear as squares? If it's superficial, then it's disappointing. If, however, it's deeper, then it might be detrimental. Either way, I'd like to get this issue resolved.

Your help is appreciated.
