Microsoft Word - Upside down text?

Upside down text?

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 02:56 PM PDT

Hello! I am using one of the templates on Microsoft Word 2010 to create an invitation. The invitation will be folded into four (hot dog style and then hamburger style). In order to get that kind of invitation, two of the boxes have to have upside down text. I have tried creating a text box so that I could just rotate it when I was done, but the text inside stays the same direction....Is there another template on Word that will be simpler to use? Or can I just flip the text upside down?

        Thank you!

Word /z command line not working for me

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 11:59 AM PDT

I'm trying to start up Word with a template in Word 2000/WinXP Home, but it's not working for me.

This commandline works to start Word:

   c:\program files\microsoft\office\Winword.exe

And this starts Word but does not start the template:

   c:\program files\microsoft\office\Winword.exe /z"c:\path_to_templates\mytemplate.dot"

I've also tried the "start winword ..." version, and it does not work either.

Word starts, but the template itself is not run.

Any clues/hints/tips on getting this working for Word 2000?

JAWS forms in a text based document - getting JAWS to read the forms and checkboxes

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 06:14 AM PDT

I am having difficulty getting JAWS to announce checkboxes and such.  They are not being announced, and in order to select them you would have to know they are there, use Shift and the arrow key to block it in and then press spacebar to either mark it or unmark it.

Locating and using the Developer tab in 2010 is not a problem, but getting it to be announced is.

A related question: If I protect my document, it is not reading the text between prompts.  The idea was to create a workbook with reference information between questions and by limiting the interaction with the text, people would know they can't 'screw up' my document.  However, JAWS jumps right to the first time I put a text entry prompt.

I have been typing on a manuscript - when I got up to leave for a few minutes. When I returned part of the work had vanished.  I found it pages down and back-spaced it back into position.  This is the third time this has happened.  I also notice the ruler on my left being very erratic.  I am also having trouble with left side. It has been quite sometime since I worked on this PC as I have a  much newer laptop.  But this is where the work began  so i decided to just continue here. Can someone please help me w/this problem?

How do i create an association so that i can send word docs as email attachments from Word, using my live/outlook account?

Posted: 12 Mar 2013 10:59 AM PDT

When I try to use the 'save and send' button in Word 2010 to send a doc as an email attachment, it says I have no email account associated with Word and I need to create one in default programmes control panel. I've been into the control panel but can't work out what to do next. I have an online Microsoft Live/Outlook account, but not a computer based email account. Do I need one to be able to create the association, or can I associate my Live account? I have to sign into my Microsoft account in order to login to my laptop, and my Live account emails are all synced to the Windows 8 email app, so I would have thought that Word ought to connect to it automatically?

Documents

Posted: 10 Mar 2013 03:27 PM PDT

I am right in the middle of writing a book, and I went to my documents to add more writing. When I opened I discovered that it had some how been changed to Word pad instead of a Word document. How can I get all my writing back and get it back into a word format? I did hit the Repair link when opened Office 2010instead of not doing anything, it did not work. When I originally posted my question I had forgotten the correct name for the product my documents are changed over to.

I need to get the documents back to the way they were because I am in the stages of writing a book.  Your original answer told me to go to  Office in my programs and features click change, when the

program's execute popped up to click repair let it do its job and open stored office documents- that changed nothing. Once again the Office program opens the original documents and at the top of the page, directly below the menu bar a yellow bar appears and within that bar are the following words: "Word Pad does not support all the features of this documents format. Some content may be missing or displayed improperly." Honestly, I do not know what Word Pad is, how to open it, or where a link for the program would be.

Mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

Posted: 02 Jun 2004 06:30 AM PDT

It looks like the missing usb-storage and sg modules were the cause of
my troubles. Today, the same disk did not want to mount - same error
- /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device. Doing 'lsmod' showed that
usb-storage and sg modules were NOT loaded, so I loaded them with
insmod usb-storage and insmod sg.

Now, I wonder - why were these modules not loaded automatically this
time?
I had the disk plugged in and powered while my computer was booting,
so it had the chance to detect the attached USB mass storage device...

Any ideas?
I can always add insmod lines to my rc.local, but that should not be
necessary.

Thank you again!

GRUB loader problem

Posted: 01 Jun 2004 12:10 PM PDT

In comp.os.linux.setup, John H uttered these immortal words:

Can you boot RH9 from a rescue option on the CD? If so add something like:

title=Windows 2000
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

to the bottom of /boot/grub/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst (whichever
you're using) and run "grub-install /dev/hda" as root to install GRUB to
the MBR.

The above GRUB stanza assumes Windows is on the frist partition of the first
drive.

If you can boot RH9 from the CD you may have to type:

# chroot /mnt/sysimage /bin/bash

or similar to get into the RH environment. It's been a long time since I
used Red Hat so maybe a search of their web site or Google is in order.

Canadian English for Microsoft Office for the Mac

Posted: 23 Jul 2007 12:51 PM PDT

I honestly don't claim to know what the difference(s) are or whether there
are any, but if there are none it's quite curious that *both* Windows OS &
Mac OS recognize Canadian English & English (UK) as separate entities.
Evidently there is a distinction which is significant to some.

However, the point being made is that the Canadian English-specific proofing
tools included in Win Word are *not* available on the Mac... That's the
question which was put and John's answer is correct. I would think
acceptability of a substitute is at the discretion of the user - and some,
perhaps, are more discriminating than others.

Also, supplanting a "crack" about one nationality with a "crack" about
another kinda negates the "apology", don't ya think?

Insert Julian date with Word

Posted: 11 Mar 2013 08:04 AM PDT

I use Julian style datetexts to name areas within word files. I copied the Julian date from a paper calendar and marked it as Heading1.  Its a great way of taking notes and automatically compiling them. The today+julian date is added in Heading 1 text and all items after it are in larger numbered Headings. Its easy to assemble the notes and then use Table of Contents or Indexing functions. When Table on Contents  or indexes with links jump to the spot in the file you need.
I am assuming the hypertext link function was not removed (?) but is there a convenient way or app to give me a form of Julian date ?
Should I just use   2013-03-11 date insert instead?  It does make it a bit harder to do  various number of days calculations from that format when something needs to happen 30 or 60 or 80 days later then a date.

It would be a great app if you could get a question box " how many days to you wish to add for an end date calculation, and then deliver an end date in the format  2013-0#-## format"
example something like
today+ 21 days   response today is 2013-03-11, the end date is 2013-04-01 Monday

This would be great for anyone dealing with "its takes 21 days to do something?
It could have a spinoff for working days.

By adding this to Office 365 rollout could be a snap>

Yes I will submit to being an Alpha or a Beta test sight for this product/app.

For example, if I update the monthly calendar for "March 2013", the dates to be entered would be Friday, March 1, 2013, Saturday, March 2, 2013, Sunday, March 3, 2013, etc.

How to convert MS-Works-MAC files to Windows-Version

Posted: 18 Sep 2004 06:19 AM PDT

Do the files that you got have any extension? On the Mac, file extensions are optional as
the Mac doesn't use them to determine file type. So your friend could have saved them
without any extension or with some other extension and they still would have worked on the
Mac. Having the expected file extension on Windows makes it easier to work with a file.

I'm not sure Works 7 still has the conversion filters to handle the Mac Works 3 files.
Apparently Works 4 does. Do you might need to get a copy of Works 4 and install that. I
understand it can coexist with Works 7. You can then open the Mac files in Works 4, and
then save them in a Windows version that Works 7 can use.

Hi Lenard,

Thanks for the suggestion. I added the GATEWAY statment to ifcfg-eth0

DNS server addreseses in /etc/resolv.conf which appear to be ok.
They were taken from my router and seem to work with the other PCs

[PATCH] Patch to hook up PPP to simple class sysfs support

according to

Looks like FC may not have changed the pppd code. If I jumped to a

pppd 2.4.2 code that generates error:

pppd/options.c: option_error("error in active-filter expression: %s\n", pcap_

Perhaps your libpcap and mine differ, and mine does the right thing.
It was installed back in late 2002:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 135878 Oct 21 2002 /usr/lib/libpcap.a

Anyway something is different, since the pppd (2.4.1, 2.4.2) filter
options work great here.

a|
a| It works well.
a|
a| Provided the clients use read and write sizes that are
a| a multiple of the base page size -- which, on this machine, is *16KB* -
a| the default 8KB xfer sizes are a no-no (and an even bigger no-no for
a| the NFS client, which means you do have to patch up many IA32 Linux
a| servers quite heavily if they have to act as an NFS server for an
a| Altix -- many with a 2.4 kernel do not really support sizes over 8KB,
a| though Propack 2.4 does).
a|
a| The same advice holds for any other Linux server using a 2.4 kernel -
a| but of course, 8KB is a multiple of a 4KB base page size on most
a| IA32 Linux servers...
a|
a| As a consequence, NFS v2 is also a big no-no if you want performance,
a| given its insistence on limiting xfer size to 8KB.
a|
a|
a| > There is
a| > not much discussion for NFS in PP2.4. Can TCP be used as the transport for
a| > NFS?
a|
a| Not without patch 10054. Even with that patch, the 2.4 client code
a| is noticeably faster over UDP - unless, of course, you have a dodgy
a| network that can't get a 16KB transfer size over reliably, but
a| manages to get 1500 byte MTUs over most of the time.
a|
a| Is there any problem with large files/file systems?
a|
a| Not unless you're mounting with the "soft" option. There are
a| a few spots in the (generic) 2.4 client code that can trigger
a| bogus timeouts propagated to the application as errors
a| if you use this option.
a|
a| Don't export with the "async" option (this is generic advice) if
a| all your clients are using NFS v3.
a|
a| There's a performance divot for non root copies of files with the group
a| execute permission bit set if you don't have patch 10065.
a|
a| > How is th
a| > throughput?
a|
a| Throughput is OK for one interface. Scalability for many GigE interfaces
a| is poor if you're used to IRIX, and less good than on 2.6 kernels
a| (by a huge margin), and even in 2.6 there's quite some work cut out to
a| achieve IRIX-level scalability.

Converting ext2/ext3 fs to ReiserFS or XFS Journaling File Systems

After 'installation', first make sure that your current
kernel supports the filesystems that you want, and you have
the proper tools to make them, eg. mkfs.xfs, mkfs_reiser.
Provided you have a spare partition with a fs on it, mount it
and copy the files from the partition that you want to convert.
ex. # cd /var , # find . -depth -print | cpio -pudm /mnt/spare
or something like that, to preserve the original attributes of
those files. Edit your /etc/fstab, and make sure the mount points
do refer to the new partition. reboot/remount(?). Now, create
the filesystem that you desired on that old part. , copy the files,
reboot and feel the changes. And thats about it, you're done.

A loaded question. First off, Linux is merely a kernel, although
a lot of people get a bit sloppy usage-wise (after all, such
nifty stuff can be enfolded around it!). A bit like asking
what the best fuel pump for an automobile is.

Second, all the distros work for the most part, unless one
has strange needs. I favor Gentoo because I like the idea
of consistently building systems from scratch, for example;
however, the rank newbie might have problems with such
a distro, although the directions are for the most part
clear enough. (If one's behind a firewall there's a bit
of a bugaboo, though; use RSYNC_PROXY=a.b.c.d:e instead of
the suggested format in the Handbook. I probably should
file a bug... :-) )

I just installed RedHat Enterprise 3.0, however, on a
Dell Precision tower, and while I'm having minor problems
with Java/JBoss, the install itself was extremely smooth.
(It was for work, of course; Fedora is apparently the home
version, that much I know. It's using 2.4.21, which is a
little long in the tooth by now.) Debian was the system
I was using prior to Gentoo; it's a very easy system to
work with as well. I've not used Mandrake but have read
good things about it.

http://www.distrowatch.com

contains a list of over 100 distros. Pick one. :-)

(They also contain an announcement for FreeBSD 4.10. Go fig.)

upgrading disk to lvm

Posted: 26 May 2004 04:06 AM PDT

In article <uio.no>,
Patrick Guio wrote:

It's my belief that there is no "easy" way.

If you have multiple partitions, you might be able to migrate one
partition at a time, if you have some spare space. In that case, you
could archive what's on one partition onto another partition, redo the
partition as a PV, put it in a VG, create an LV, make a filesystem and
"unarchive" your data into that LV. Then archive the next partition,
declare that as a PV, extend the VG to include it, etc... repeat as
necessary. Kinda messy, but possible. For me, I'd add that second disk,
put it under LVM, migrate stuff off the first disk, then add that space to
LVM.

Of course, if you don't have any backup, then obviously, your data is of
no value to you, so why don't you just blow it off (pretending you had a
disk crash or a totally corrupted filesystem), and start over with LVM.

RTL 8139 with 2.4.2 bf2 kernel (debian)

Posted: 26 May 2004 12:53 AM PDT

One caution: if you install your own kernel, you must set kernel headers
properly; in my system, I install my own kernel in /usr/src/linux-2.4.26,
and make a symbolic link /usr/src/linux pointing to /usr/src/linux-2.4.6.
Then remove directories, /usr/include/asm and /usr/include/linux, then make
symbolic links /usr/include/asm to /usr/src/linux/include/asm and
/usr/include/linux to /usr/src/linux/include/linux. Then you can compile
additional kernel modules. On my system, NVIDIA kernel module driver and
vmware kernel modules compile and work perfectly. Debian is very generous
to your own kernel. I used woody in the past with my own build 2.4.x
kernel. But sarge is also stable and comes with newer software (for example
apache2 and xfree86 related packages) I upgraded to sarge (testing).

I can't find what's wrong with my lilo.conf

Posted: 25 May 2004 08:44 PM PDT

Removing a hard disk will shuffle BIOS device codes. This kills versions of
LILO earlier that 22.3. Since then, LILO defers final BIOS device code
assignments to drives until boot-time, allowing the boot-time environment to
be different from the install-time (/sbin/lilo) environment.

Your config file looks as though it were designed for an earlier version of
LILO, possibly version 21.
