Great! I did see that parameter, but I didn't know I could use it for
individual mailboxes. It seemed to me that it was a global setting. I'll
look more into that cmdlet usage.

It does work on some of the subfolders, just not all of them. the log shows
the subfolder and email within, it just wont delete them. but it will delete
others in subfolders in the same location. not sure how it would pick and
choose.

I posted int SBS newsgroups.

I reinstalled Activesync 4.5. I reset the phone. But when I entered
configuration information for setup I get this message. "Microsoft Exchange
did not accept your login credentials click retry to enter your credentials
again or click continue to sync with smartphone anyway."

I've checked the exchange server setup for mobile set up. It is correct. I
checked the user permissions and they are authorized for mobile. The user can
remote in using OWA from the Smartphone.

SMTP Queues "hang" intermittently

I'm sorry to take so long to reply here. I tried a couple of times with an
attachment but perhaps they are not allowed on the board. So I will try
typing in the essence of the screen shot from Message Tracking.

First though, to answer your question, of course I have the queues cleared
now,and have been all day, but it seems to me that some were scheduled, some
were queued, and some were retry if those statuses sound right.

The following is the information from a screen shot from message tracking
for one of the stuck the messages that was in one of the queues. They just
seem to keep trying but nothing happens.

I believe that the NDR at the end might have been my doing because that is
about the time I was working on things. But I had other messages in
different queues that had just as long or longer message tracking entries
just like this one.

There was one however that had a rather strange last line. After the
"Message Routed and Queued for Remote Deliver" entry, the next line was the
standard "Started Outbound Transfer of Message", but the following line
looked a bit corrupt: "Message transfered to
*************2*******************........" rather than listing the mail
server"

If there is something that could be more useful let me know and I will post
it. Tomorrow I hope I have time to look at the SMTP logs for those days
although I haven't really got the jist of how to read everything in them.

You would like to know if you can install OCS 2007 on the same server with
Exchange 2007 installed.

If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.

Since I am Exchange newsgroup technical engineer, I am not very familiar
with OCS 2007 deployment, however, based on experience and research, I
strongly do not recommend you to install OCS on Exchange server as the
mediation server role from OCS 2007 cannot be on the same server because it
uses those specific ports etc. Moreover, Exchange server 2007 is a
sensitive server for system resource, otherwise it may possibly cause heavy
workload or perforce issues and server no responding etc. potential
problems.

Thank you for your quick reply.

We are implementing CRM and I have not been brought in for much of the
project except to provide the server support. Currently, our employees have
very large Exchange mailboxes and I would like to begin implementing storage
limits. However, I was told to wait since the impression was that once CRM
is in place, e-mails linked to contacts in MS CRM will get taken out of the
Exchange Information Store and stored within the CRM system.

As the Network Administrator, I have concerns pertaining to the information
store but the COO (former Director of Finance) has asked me to wait until CRM
is in place.

Is this assumption true?

Problem updating date field

I have a date field inserted into a header in a Word document.  When I try to update the field, either using F9 or by clicking on the field itself, the date always reverts to Jan-15.  Any clues as to what might be going on here?

When trying to insert a hyperlink into some text I keep getting this code coming up and I can't seem to get rid of it. I can't see any codes or macros running and can't get this to go back to the formatting it normally has.

Edit Word Documents in Read Mode Word 2013

Is it just me or is the lack of an 'edit' funciton in Read mode really annoying? In previous versions of Word, you could edit in read mode.  Does anyone know if there is a work-around solution? I'm getting pretty fed up of having to go back to 'view' to edit documents every time I want to make a slight amend.

Changing default bullet in Word 2010 - 2013

I asked my question on the Dutch community (here) but nobody seems to know the solution. I will try to explain it in English.

I am making the new Office templates for our company, however, there is still one problem. It seems impossible to change the default bullet in Word 2010 or 2013.


The problem is this:

In the new template, we want to align each enumeration with the text, as you can see in the picture: 

This is the case when I use the style "bullet list", which is already defined in the document, and apply it to a list. I also created a "new list with multiple levels" and it works when I use it to create a new enumeration. However, most users don't use a style or a list with multiple levels to create a summing-up. They just click the default bullet in the library bullets. And when you do, the text jumps further away. Not on the same line as the other text in the template.

Does someone know how I can change the default bullet in this template without using a work around (lists, style)? Maybe it is possible with VBA? At first I wanted to avoid VBA but if that is the only solution, then fine. But not everyone will need a list in the document so it must be a code that only works when the default bullet is used.

Corrupt Word Docs - cannot open

I have spent that last 2 days reading the posts here and various online, whitepapers, and recovery docs from "leading" software / document recovery tools. Nothing is working but I still do not believe all is lost. Yes, my bad for not having a backup - that aside...

I had a workstation at my office that got infected. The employee was saving her Word 2010 docx's to her "My documents" folder instead of the "data drive". A "g-squad" type person came out, told me it could not be disinfected so he wiped the system and reloaded Win7. Not sure how he "wiped" it but I imagine he just deleted the partition on Win7 reload. I freaked when I saw he didnt backup the docs in the my doc folder before he reloaded, and he told me that was MY fault for not backing up... 

He popped in a CD and
said he was able to "find" the "digital image" of the docs on the harddrive. A few minutes later I had the Word file icons back on the desktop. I tried to open the docs and got the error: "...cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents" and "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened"

I have tried:
opening as a TXT
sending to GMAIL and trying recovery
tried "open/repair" option in Word
importing into many "web-based" html/xml processors
many other attempts 
So I have spent the last couple of days looking at MANY options. The best I can do is open the doc but I get a page of ASCII characters. Data recovery specialists in this city charge a LOT of money to do this, and I am pretty darn sure I can do the same as long as I had the proper tools. I have looked at a LOT of software but haven't purchased any yet. I have read MANY MANY posts here on EE, and have looked at many of those packages, way too many to list here but lets just say at least the top 20 "recommended" packages. They all say the same thing about recovering from NTFS, rebuilding the headers, etc, etc. but they all seem "consumer" in quality. 

Is purchasing a "recovery" software my ONLY choice?

Hello All,
I'm project lead on the upgrade of our Office system here from Office
20003 to 2007. For the last week I have had trouble installing the
application. I kept getting an error during the first part of the
installation claiming that a certain file on the installation DVD
could not be found. When I browse to the file, I get an "Invalid
Location" error.
That being said, I was able to resolve this issue: Our office PCs are
set-up with the archaic C/D drive partition, & setting the C-drive to
READ ONLY for non-admin users. Even if you are logged in as an Admin,
you will not be able to install Office 2007 unless the C drive rights
are changed to allow writing ability for all users. By "unlocking" the
C-drive, I was able to successfully install the software.
Now, this is an over-all issue because the manpower required to
temporarily remove the C drive protection to install the application
would be ridiculous. And, by setting group policy to allow writing to
the C drive, I leave open some security holes (again, I understand
this is not the most efficient security system we have, but it is out
of my hands). So, I need to figure out which folder on the C drive is
being created &/or written to so that I can set group policy to allow
User write rights to that particular spot only.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If this does not make any sense, let me know & I can re-clarify.

OEM Editions of MS Office 2007 trials are often 'hybrid product' editions (i.e. it includes both Student/Teacher and 'Professional'
trial editions).

Doesn't work like that unfortunately, support is from MS not the employer.
Anyway, MS support said DVD was corrupted & suggested I download the trail
version and use the product key that came with the DVD. Worked ok

Well, I figured out something....

My application that works is executing as "Administrator" user. When I
login to the prebuilt CRM user interface as "Administrator" my
post-callouts fire fine.

But if I login to the crm as "Joe User" even if that user is a member
of the domain "Administrators" group - No Dice.

So the problem is obviously user rights of some sort? Anyone got a
clue?

As far as I know you can't redeploy to a different language. So the
redeployment is not an option. I have done the trick (from Dutch to
English) by using the data migration framework and with that tool
moving all the data to the new server.

you mentioned that the user you are installing as is a memeber of the domain
admins group - is the user or the domain admins group a member of the local
administrators group on the workstation? That's the only permission that is
required as far as I know.

The first thing that should appear (immediately) is the EULA page - can you
verify that there is a file called "MSCRMClientEULA.rtf" in the same
directory as the setup.exe?

Thanks for replay!
I wrote from external mail account (hotmail and yahoo).. In the meantime I
could receive mails but just with one user!

If I use another I got the error message: Recipient could not be found in
the system!
I have to map it manually but in this case I have no entries on users
homepage! Exchange Properties CRMEmailEnabled checked - but router did not
work correct.

Perhaps you have some mor ideas...

Again, you should create teams. Matt's right, if you assign a record
to a new owner, the old owner will still have access to it. But teams
would let you give access to individual records to multiple support and
sales staff (at the extreme, each sale could be administrated by a

Yes, if you create teams and "share" the views with those teams, you
can hide those views from other users. You might want to consider
create "My Reached" and never reached views so that each owner just
sees their own, even if the security model would allow them to see more
(salesperson/manager situation, e,g.)

Dave,

I do agree that version 3 will have a feature to merge two records, but this
is not attached to the import functionality. I could also not find any new
feature regarding the identification of duplicate records.

Unexpected way of deleting Word form

Hello:

I created a word form template, and protected it by clicking Group > Group. I then opened an instance of the template, and placed the cursor at the beginning of the form and clicked Delete to test that the form was protected. Imaging my surprise when the entire form was highlighted, and deleted entirely when I clicked Delete again.

The above does not happen when you click somewhere else first, and then click at the beginning of the file and press Delete. However, it happens every time you click Ctrl+A and then Delete.

Is this normal behavior? I thought that "protected" meant "protected".

I have the opposite problem. I select text, the mini menu show up, but before I can use it, (maybe if I move my mouse out of the selection), it may disappear. How can I get it back without having to reselect?

'VBA-Shading.BackgroundPatternColorIndex' keeps introducing itself into my Word 2003 document somehow so that I have to either save it or undo it. I don't know what it is and as far as I know, I didn't call for it. Is there a keyboard shortcut I pressed by accident, and how do I get it to stop?

Save As folders for Word all pointing to my Documents folder

I click Save As in Word to save a new document and select a Recent Folder.  No matter which Recent Folder I select it continues to load the Save File dialog for my local Documents folder.  It doesn't matter if I'm trying to save to One Drive locations or local folder locations, it always loads the Save File dialog for my local Document folder.  

Additionally, If I open an existing document and click Save As and select a Recent Folder I am always presented with the Save File dialog for the original location of the document.

In both cases I am forced to manually navigate to the location where I desire to save the file.  

The Save As functionality is working correctly for Powerpoint and Excel. 

I also noticed that the mouse cursor is spinning (indicating processing) when not on the Save File dialog while the Save File dialog is open in Word.  In Power Point and Excel the mouse cursor reverts back to it's default state.

Any ideas?

Replacing ^w^p with ^p fails

I'm having the same sort of problem, which I encounter periodically while using Word 2010. This time, I have Track Changes off and and am attempting to do a find and replace of ^w^p to ^p. Find works but replace does nothing. I've tried draft view and print layout view, and have tried selecting the parts of the document with extra whitespace and accepting changes before trying it, but nothing helps.

Sorting of identical index entries that use different \t switches

I have an index in which I want to refer to (1) the page number and (2) the last number of a certain sequence.


Adopting the approach described at http://word.tips.net/T001580_Including_Section_Numbers_in_an_Index.html, I use the \t switch of the index entry to specify the page (using the field "{ PAGE }") and the last number of the sequence "mysequence" using "{SEQ mysequence \c}".


A sample index entry therefore looks like this:

{ XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }


So far so good; the problem occurs if there are multiple occurrences of the same keyword: the page numbers are sorted in the incorrect (reverse) order.


For example if I have

- on page 2 at sequence number 23: { XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }

- on page 5 at sequence number 102: { XE "keyword" \t "{ PAGE }:{SEQ mysequence \c}" }


I would expect to get the following index (using "{ INDEX \e " " \c "2" \z "3079" }"):

keyword......................................2:23, 5:102

Instead I get:

keyword......................................5:102, 2:23

I would be tremendously grateful if anybody could help me out.

inserting a multi-page Word document as object into Outlook

I am attempting to insert a multi-page Word document into an Outlook email message, however it only inserts the first page. Would any know why this is happening? I am selecting Insert>Object>Create from File and then selecting the Word document.

File size is HUGE from images

I have inserted two images (with total file size of 1.1 MB) as cover and title page of a document. The doc now has a file size of  39 MG, and is unwieldy to work on, to say the least!

I separated the file into "Cover and Title" and "the rest of the doc" to facilitate editing, but will eventually need to combine them.

I made sure the "do not compress images" box is unchecked.

(I originally inserted  raw images, then used some of Word's image tools to modify....which resulted in a file size of 56 MB and did not print the text on these two pages when saving to PDF!!!!! I then pasted the "modified" images into an image editing program and reduced the file sizes to 639 KB and 469 KB. I inserted these two into a new file, which, as stated above, now is 39 MB.)

It seems I must be missing something, or doing something wrong.  Is there any help for this?

Opening/ saving files with Office 2013

I have recently downloaded Microsoft office 2013 professional edition. I cannot open office documents directly from desktop or any other folders. Word or excel documents does not appear in its regular icon. If I go to say excel 2013 (start-->all programs-->Microsoft office 2013-->Microsoft word 2013), and open a file form within the excel (going to File-> open), the file opens. This also happens when try to create a document, save it in word 2013 and again try to open it from desktop/ folder, the file does not opens. Can somebody help me solve this problem?

Hi,

I'm very familiar with personal.xlsm in excel. 
I have my own macros in it, it is opened automatically each time I start Excel.

Similarly, I want to
- create my own Word macros, assigning them to "ctrl+shift+letter" combinations  
- to be able to have them in hand each time I launch Word.
I tried some time but I could not succeed.
How can I do this, if it is possible.

I'm using Win 8.1, Office 2010.

I'm trying to send email using MailMerge in Word 2007 and Google Mail.  In Word, it looks like the emails have gone, but nothing shows up in my Google Mail.  How can I tell if the emails actually were sent?

(I actually use Windows 7 Home Premium)

Dragon was working perfectly until about 1 month ago. 

Recently it started to stop working after a few documents, it becomes unresponsive and I have to restart the computer. 

Initially the computer told me at restart that there were problems with the add in and it was going to be disabled.

The add in was disabled. I enable it every time I turn on my computer, but the problem occurs again and again with both dragon and word becoming unresponsive.

I started working with the dictation box (much less comfortable), but today, it also got stuck twice!

Is there an update to fix a bug? Could there be a problem with MCaffee, which I installed recently too?

Get the table index of a content control

Hi,

I have a Word document with several tables, n rows, 6 columns. The fifth column contain in each cell a content control (combobox)

Depending on the selected item, I want to color that cell. Using the following code:

MS Word 2003 and word 2010

I was using windows XP and ms word 2003, I have some ms word documents, which I created in ms word 2003(windows xp), but I am using windows 7 ms word 2010 now,

When I open my ms word 2003 documents on my new windows xp ms word 2010 and make some changes (like make a word italic etc) then my document size increase a lot, like it was 12 KB prior, but after doing this small change it became 41 KB and a logo which was given in header section become unvisible,

but when I open same document in ms word 2003 and make some small changes again then my document size automatically decrease to 12 KB and logo start displaying on document.

Can you plesae suggest how can I solve this problem in ms word 2010, because if size will remain same in ms word 2010 then my problme will solve.

I have wrote a book in Microsoft Office Word 2007. How to create a table of contents without changing the font style for the titles that I want to add them to the TOC. While when selecting a text and pressing on add text and applying heading 1 it change the font style.

the thesaurus on my newly loaded word 13

I recently loaded word 13.  I signed up and logged in to MS and downloaded a dictionary.  But my thesaurus will not suggest any words and no synonyms are listed.  i get the message synonyms await, but nothing ever lists.  any suggestions?

MS Word Mail Merge via DDE Problem

I have a problem with a Mail Merge Document I have created whereby when I complete the merge it throws out the error the Word could not open the data source.

However, this problem only seems to occur when the sheet is loaded with data to merge across. If the excel document is only half-full this does-not occur. There are no other variables and I have tested to high heaven.

You can tell it is about to fail because when successful it opens the Workbook and leaves it open in the background, if it is going to fail it opens it but then closes and asks you if want to save any changes even though none have been made?

I am using DDE because all other MS Excel Merge methods limit the volume of characters that can be merged per field and also the number of fields that can be merged and I have 162 merge fields.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem. It is not a Computer issue because the same issue occurs across multiple machines.

We are using Office 365 for business.

Blurry Images from Word to .pdf

I am using Word 2013. I have been reading the responses to this issue in earlier versions, and am hoping for some updated information.

I am required to create the document using Word, and also to output to .pdf using the "save as PDF"  feature (the "print to PDF" feature, which offers resolution options, does not maintain live hyperlinks.)  I have checked the "Do not compress images in file" in the Advanced Options area, as indicated in previous responses. 

However, one response referred to some settings in the "Save as PDF" dialog box that I do not find. The only options available refer to document info and bookmarks.

I need to use a small, crisp lined, logo (less than 1/2") in the header of a long document. It looks GREAT in Word, but terrible in PDF.

Any help for me before I tear ALL of my hair out?

I have a Mail Merge that uses an Excel workbook for data. It prints out a letter of the personal church contributions for the previous year for tax purposes.

It works fine. Now the church treasurer wants a PDF file for each letter sent.

I have no clue how to do this.
