Text boxes size printing

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 01:48 PM PST

I tried printing a text box of a certain size. 14.7cm by 14.7cm. When I printed it without text inside it its that size. When I add text the box gets smaller without changing the size.

HELP

Word constantly running into error and asking to repair. Consistently not working.

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 01:08 PM PST

I have Word for Office 365 and I've had this problem that no one else seems to be having.  Every time I open Word, it shows the following message:

"We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result.
Would you like us to repair now?"

and then it provides me with the options "Repair Now", "Help", or "Close".

I have clicked "Repair Now" on multiple occasions, choosing both the "Quick Repair" and the "Online Repair".  Both of which work for one time use before I am greeted with the same message about an error.  After dealing with this message 10 times, I have finally decided to make a post as I cannot find anyone else running into the same problem.

I have already uninstalled the whole program completely and re-installed it.  I have bought the package and have it installed on my laptop as well as my desktop.  My desktop has no problems with it whatsoever, only my laptop.

My laptop is an Asus Zenbook UX31E, Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System.  It has a SSD, so the memory is only 111 GB, but it is not full and still has 44.4 GB free, so there is plenty of room for Word to run.

This happens with all of my Microsoft Office 365 products, so it is not limited to Word.  If anyone has any suggestions or can help me resolve this issue, that would be phenomenal.

Word 2013 and touch screen scroll issue.

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 08:59 AM PST

I am using a surface with Word 2013 and the touch screen scroll does not always work. Can someone let me know if this works the same on their Surface 2 pro.

  1. Open a document (or create one) that is long enough to scroll on your screen.

  2. Change your view to 'draft' or 'outline'.

  3. Does your document scroll via the touch screen?

Mine only scrolls via the scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen. Every other view mode will scroll without the scroll bar except view 'draft' or 'outline'. Is this by design or is it a bug?

XML Problem: I can't open my Word 2007 docx file (Start/Endtag Problem) - Fixit doesn`t work

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 07:57 AM PST

Hi there,

I have a big problem and I hope there is somebody who can repair my Word-Document (or at least save the text somehow).
After my flash drive crashed, I used a data restoring software and managed to get back this important Word-File, but now I can't open it.

The Fixit solution of Microsoft didn't work. I read about fixing the problem with an XML-Editor, but I have no experience with that.
The most important thing would be just the text. It would be fantastic if someone could restore this work (which took me nearly two weeks).

I uploaded the docx and the xml file here:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-8602999/Studienarbeit_-_Anw._Fallstudienseminar_-_Robert_Fromm_-_32874.docx.html
http://www.file-upload.net/download-8603008/document.xml.html

Thanks a lot in advance! You would save me a lot of time.

I have word 2002 and XP. I downloaded a template required for my technical paper by the conference.

What version of Microsoft Word should I get for my XP to get a newer version?
Does anyone know how much I need to spend.
Thanks

Is there any way to update the APA citations for Office 2013 to APA 7th edition?

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 06:40 AM PST

Currently Office 2013 is using APA 6th edition, and there are a few significant changes in the reference page between the 6th and 7th editions so when making a references page, we are forced to manually update it, or convert it to static text and then make the appropriate changes.

Is there any way to fix this currently, or is there an APA 7th edition patch coming?

Thanks

If I deselect "Formatting" in Show Markup, why is it not persistent?

Posted: 09 Feb 2014 02:02 AM PST

I use Word 2007 with Win7.

In Review > Show Markup, I don't want to see "Formatting" in the bubbles.

When I deselect "Formatting", all the formatting bubbles disappear. That's fine.

However, if I (a) turn Change Tracking off, and do some editing, then (b) turn Change Tracking on, the formatting bubbles re-appear.

When I open Review > Show Markup, I can see that "Formatting" is again selected.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Can't change voice in text-to-speech tool to desired option.

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 11:14 PM PST

I've been trying to select Microsoft Hazel Desktop - English (Great Britain) as the default voice for text-to-speech. I can preview the voice and change the voice speed, but once I click Apply, OK and go back into Word, it is still set to Microsoft David Desktop - English (United States) - although, oddly enough, the voice speed settings have changed to what I selected.

If I choose Microsoft Zira Desktop - English (United States) instead, the changes also work after clicking Apply, OK. It's only if I try to use "Hazel" that it reverts back to "David".

As an Australian, "Hazel's" voice best reflects our pronunciation of words and is much easier to listen to for large sections of text. As a copywriter, I use this tool to read through all my client copy as part of my proofing process.

Any ideas why I can preview "Hazel" but the settings don't stick?

I'm running Windows 8 using MS 2010.

Adding Digital Signatures in Office 365 Home Premium

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 08:53 PM PST

Hi,

I have tried to install a digital certificate on a document in MS-Word, but have constantly drawn a blank,

I followed the steps on tutorials, but could not proceed.

This is what I did

1. Clicked on the Insert menu, then Text, followed by Signature Line

2. I filled in the details in the Signature Setup dialog box

3. On pressing OK, the signature line appeared showing X and a line with my name beneath the X

According to the tutorials, I should double click on the signature image for adding images to the signature. However, if I do that I get the following message:

Before you can add signatures, you must save the document in a format that supports digital signatures. Do you want to save in a supported format (Yes/No)?

I have tried saving it, using a blank document etc. However, I cannot get around to the stage of adding an image to the signature.

Does anyone have an idea about why this is misbehaving?

How do I keep Equation Editor from resolving a character?

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 06:15 PM PST

Often I want to use a character like a hyphen, forward slash, double-quote, etc. that has special meaning to the Equation Editor.  I'm told there is a way to tell Equation Editor not to resolve these character and instead use them literally.  But I cannot find anything in the support files.  In fact, I can find very little in the support files on Equation Editor.

word macro

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 05:18 PM PST

Hello to all
I have a document that has a lot of excel graphs imported into word 2010. When i copt and paste them the format of the graph changes so i need to manually apply a standard graph model and change the size of it.
is there a way to do this in vba?
i tried to record a macro but the result is null ( no code inside it)
So i believe i need some code that changes the size and axis properties for the selected graph, in word 2010.

Best regards

If you are setting up the PC, install everything as you'd like it prior

OEM SBS2003 vs retail version ?

Posted: 09 May 2006 11:27 AM PDT

That's what I thought but I see LOTS of vendors selling OEM SBS sw and
wondered how to determine how/if a specific OEM package would work with
a generic box. ie. If I build and AMD/ASUS box and then order OEM
SBS2003 , how do I know that I wouldn't get a version that would only
install on , say ... a Dell server. In which case I have just bought a
coaster.
There are a LOT of these vendors online - selling both the OEM and MS
Full versions. They all state that the difference is only
"upgradeability" .

Home use programs only allow for a single installation. You will need to
apply to your work System Admin from whom you got the program for any
workarounds for use on a different computer.

How do I cure a 'fatal error has occured '

Posted: 06 May 2006 08:58 AM PDT

Hi.

Try the following steps prior to re-installing Office.

(1) Rename the Microsoft Office folder under C:\Program Files.
(2) Back-up the registry and then delete the following keys-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office

Once you have deleted them, restart the computer and then try re-installing
Office 2003.

Let me know if it helps.

Thanks,

>If you are talking about sharing SMTP address space, read this. . .

That's not applicable given the OP's intended implementation. The
address space isn't shared, because the MX does not receive any
messages back from the mailbox server. The flow is unidirectional,
and it's thus acceptable for Exchange to consider itself the sole
authority for each domain.

Can't open OWA from within the network

Posted: 08 Feb 2006 11:35 AM PST

What you've done is hijacked your "real, public" domain. But that's not
a problem. For branding purposes I like to use my real public domain
for my AD domain too. It causes less confusion for the users,
especially in a large organization. Peter was right it is a DNS issue
but it's pretty easy to fix. You can use the CNAME record or you can
create an A record for "mail" within your mydomain.com zone. Just make
the IP address the actual private address of the OWA server. So people
accessing OWA from the inside will hit that and people accessing from
the outside will hit whatever you've got in public DNS

For the following scenario,

I have 2 different Administrative Groups, each with its own EVS

AG1
- Servers
- <server1>
- Protocols
- SMTP
- Default SMTP Virtual Server

AG2
- Servers
- <server2>
- Protocols
- SMTP
- Default SMTP Virtual Server

Question 1
If a user in server1 sends to a user in server2 and receives a NDR,
where is the NDR generated? server1 or server2?

Question 2
If I enabled the "send copies of NDR" setting only on server1, and a
user in server1 sends to a user in server2 and receives a NDR, would
the specified email address in the "send copies of NDR" setting also
receive the NDR?

dismounting store from a command line

Posted: 07 Feb 2006 05:45 AM PST

This seems like a rather risky thing to do on blind faith and really should
be something done in person that you can see the results of before mounting
the file again. After hours and weekends would really be best.

That being said, the only way to do it from a command line is with CDOEXM;
vbscript seems like the most likely method to get at it.

This document talks about CDOEXM:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2000/maintain/ex2kwsh.mspx

Sample 9, line 307 deals with the dismounting. HOWEVER, this code iterates
through all the stores so you'll need to modify it to dismount only the
store(s) you want to. If you let this run and uncomment the Dismount method,
it will dismount all your stores.

Posted: 05 Feb 2006 12:17 AM PST

Hi,
At first, thanks for your reply.
Queue is "Messages waiting to be routed" (protocol:SMTP and
source: Default SMTP Virtual Server). When I looked at the Message
Tacking Center, I saw that the time between "Cathegorized and queued to be
routed" and "queued for local delivery" is more than 15-20 minutes.

System was working very well untill the time before 1 month.
Furthermore we didn't installed any new softwares on server also.
And sometimes it works well after restart and the process inetinfo.exe
doesn't use more CPU time, it uses 2-5 percent of CPU. I don't want
to install SP2 nowadays because of risk. Moreover it has already been working.

I looked for an error in the event viewer, but couldn't find anything. What
should I do in this case? I think that somebody should have
experienced this issue.
Thanks for all.

How do I automate text and images input into multiple word templates

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 01:11 PM PST

I am an employment consultant and regularly produce a number of different documents (based on word templates) for different tasks and procedures for a large number of employers and employees.

Currently I open a .dotx template, insert the company name and the company logo and then save the template as a .docx in a different folder.

This procedure is repeated a number of times on a number of different templates, depending on client requirements, and then I print each one individually as the output ranges from A4 to A5 and Landscape to Portrait

Is there any way I can automate the process (using word, excel or a third party software program) ie:

1.       nominate the templates to be populated

2.       upload the relevant text and images into all templates simultaneously

3.       save all documents to a nominated folder and

4.       when instructed - print the nominated documents in the quantities required

Creating ordered lists with specific spacing

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 10:56 AM PST

I am trying to create ordered lists with specific spacing.  I have tried all of the option I can think of and cannot make it work like I want.

Specifically - I want it to look like this

1.  Item one

2.  Item two

3.  Item three is longer and spans two lines
I want it to be single spaced.

4.  Item four

5.  Item five is also longer and spans two lines
I want it to be single spaced.

When I use the paragraph to make the whole thing 1.5 times or double. - it separates 3. and 5. too.  when one of the items spans multiple lines, I want that item to be single spaced.  I have tried the before and after, tried changing spacing to single for the ones I want single spaced - but no matter where I put the cursor - it still make s the next item single spaced too.  So I end up with

1.  Item one

2.  Item two

3.  Item three is longer and spans two lines
I want it to be single spaced.
4.  Item four
5.  Item five is also longer and spans two lines
I want it to be single spaced.

Can you help?

normal.dot from 2003 to 2010 will not accept

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 10:13 AM PST

The office I work in has just changed from Word 2003 to Word 2010 and I successfully (after the information from the Microsoft Communities I was kindly given) managed to get the macros and autotext into the 2010 normal.dot by dropping the 2003 version into the folder and renaming the 2010 normal.dot.  I spent all of today making tabs on the ribbon and making a lot of the autotext entries up to date with colour that we are now using.  When I dropped the new normal dot into the second new computer, doing the same thing, it would not recognise any of the tabs or any of the adjustments I had made (which had taken me all day)  I did not know whether to laugh or cry !!!  I deleted the normal.dot and put the new one in, renamed etc and nothing worked.  Does anyone know what has happened ?  Would be so grateful for some help please.

Is there a way to delete a paragraph in Outline View without right-click. The long way from the Ribbon or Outline Toolbar?

MSWord 2003 Has Stopped Working

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 07:35 AM PST

I have been using MSWord 2003 with Windows 8 for several months.  Starting a couple of months ago whenever I copy from the internet to a Word document, I get an message saying that MSWord has stopped working.  It goes through the process and then recovers the document, without the information I attempted to paste.  I can paste to Notepad and then to Word, but would like to find a fix.

Word 2013 scrolling issue when typing at bottom of screen

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 07:28 AM PST

I had my screen in portrait mode (1080x1920) while I was typing, working in Web Mode at 87% on a document about two-and-a-half screens tall.
Whenever I typed at the bottom of the screen, the smoothscrolling would act up and decide I was scrolling in from somewhere off in space, animating the sudden transition to the bottom of the screen, making the text jump around in a particularly eye-bleeding fashion. I have isolated it to the smoothscrolling by disabling animation in controls and elements (System>System Properties>Advanced>Performance Options>Visual Effects), which turned off the smoothscrolling, whereupon the problem disappeared.

enlarging the font in equations & subscript

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 07:07 AM PST

I have just moved from Math type with Word 2003 to Word 2013 and the equation editor seems much worse.

I can't see how to make the overall equation larger.  When I insert it, it comes out really small.  I can make it a bit bigger by enlarging the font, but I don't seem to be able to just pull it out as I used to be able to do with math type.

Also, the subscript function doesn't work properly.

Ctrl + doesn't work within the equation editor, so I have to use the sub/super script function within the editor.  However, it adds two little squares and if I move the cursor back with the arrow key I can enter a subscript, but the other square remains between the letter and subscript.  Annoyingly, I can't cut and paste it into this or upload a Word doc.

The only way I can get a sensible subscript is if I use the function to put in x2 and then replace the x and the 2.  Tedious.  I never had this trouble with math type.

trouble editing documents on my pc via my laptop

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 06:51 AM PST

I recently bought a PC with Windows 7 pre-installed.  I am now having difficulty editing documents on my laptop which is set up as part of my home network.  When I try to edit, I sometimes get a message saying "Read only" but when I check document properties, it isn't set to 'read only'; other times, it won't let me save it unless it's saved under another name; sometimes it won't let me edit.  Any help appreciated.

How to print multiple pages per sheet without inner margins?

Posted: 08 Feb 2014 02:21 AM PST

I have Office 2013 and I want to print out a big chunk of text and still consume less papers.
My printer requires these margins:
Top 0.12"
Left 0.13"
Right 0.14"
Bottom 0.2"

How can I remove the inner margins when I print 4 pages per one sheet?

problem in opening word 97-2003 file in office 365 / Windows 8

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 11:51 PM PST

We have tried using the link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918429?p=1 but could not open the file. ( The file word 97-2003 file and we are currently using it in office 365 / Windows 8 )

We were using this word document but suddenly since yesterday it is not opening but asking for FILE CONVERSION - it says select your encoding for making the file readable.

We feel that the file is corrupt and we need technical help to resolve this matter. If required we can attach and send the file for viewing.

"Next Page" section break switching to Continuous

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 08:39 PM PST

I have many sections within a document, I had been mixing them between Continuous and Next Page, but after finding I needed to use Next Page to make headings work the way I wanted, I switched all of mine to next page.

I have two sections (out of something like 20) that don't stay that way, though.  I switch them to Next Page, and use the Outline view to make sure I've deleted the Continuous.  I save.  I close.  I open it again, and they're continuous instead of next page.  I've tried this now 3 or 4 times and it always goes back to Continuous.

Any ideas?

multiple references to an endnote Word 2010

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 08:38 PM PST

I can create a list of references at the end of my document using the endnote function in word 2010.  When I delete a reference the list automatically gets renumbered and the reference numbers in the document are updated.  That's cool!   I can create multiple reference to an endnote in Word 2010 using the insert/link/cross reference function.   I then have multiple references numbers in the document body that refer to the same reference at the end of the document. However, if I then delete a reference in my reference list the the multiple endnote links are not updated, i.e. the link is now tied to the wrong reference.  How do I have multiple or repeated references in the document and have the ability to edit my reference list and have the whole document reference numbering updated correctly??

Thanks

Blogging in Word: rename blog accounts

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 07:43 PM PST

How can you change the name that Word 2010 gives to blog accounts you register in Word?

I have registered 3 wordpress.com blogs and Word has given them the same name, with 1,2 afterwards to distinguish them. The name it has chosen is the name of another inactive and hidden Wordpress.com blog of mine. I cant see why this has happened as it is not the title of any of the blogs I have registered, and I don't know why it has given all three the same name. I have checked in Wordpress and these names do not appear in any of the settings for the particular blogs I have registered in Word.

Can I edit the name?

Error status 0xc00012f

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 07:31 PM PST

I get this error status when I open Word. It gives me a "WINWORD.EXE - Bad Image" error message with a path to C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\AcSpecfc.DLL and tells me it is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. It suggests a reinstall. I have had this computer for over a year and it came with Office 2010 installed, so there is no disk and reinstalling is a real hassle.

I'm on Windows 8.1.

Is there a work around anyone is aware of?  I tried to repair office, but that did not work.

Thanks.

Unsaved file and missing backup

Posted: 07 Feb 2014 04:37 PM PST

I have been working on a file saved to a SkyDrive folder. I saved it every 10 minutes or so. When I closed Word, I saw a message about needing to log in, possibly to SkyDrive. Now, when I open the file, several hours of work is missing. Although the AutoRecover option is set for every 10 minutes, there are no ASD files anywhere. And no backup files. So it appears that none of my Save commands actually saved. Any ideas on how or if I can recover the work?

Autocorrect buttons greyed out

I want to add a block of text to my letters with a couple of key strokes. The "replace text" and "formatted text" buttons are greyed out under the "replace as you type" line just above the buttons. How do I activate those buttons.
