Place logo in header on "random" pages while keeping sequential page numbering?

Posted: 06 Jul 2013 01:55 PM PDT

I have one more question for today if anyone can lend some help.

I have a Word document that is 16 pages long.

- I need to place our logo in the header on pages 3, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16. (Just to give an explanation - the department wants the logo on pages that will be returned individually even though all sheets go out as a single packet).
- I also need to begin numbering the document at page 3 (in other words, page three of the document shows page 1 of 14 (since we didn't count the first two). I need the page numbers to continue in a sequential manner through the rest of the document (e.g. page 4 has "page 2 of 14, page 5 has "page 3 of 14", and so on).

Would someone mind advising me on how best to accomplish this?

How do you change one border of a cell without changing another when using a table?

Posted: 06 Jul 2013 09:24 AM PDT

Hi All,

I'm using Microsoft Word 2010. I have a table in my document to capture timesheet information. I have blocks with 8 cells per day of the week. I would like to make the cell border on the inside of the block 1/2 size and black. I would like the outside of that same cell block (or the actual border) to be 1 1/2 size and black. Is this possible? Here is a link to a sample of the document:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7186315/BorderExample.docx

Sunday demonstrates what I'm trying to do with the 1/2 size in the middle of the block. Monday shows the 1 1/2 size I would like to surround the block. In this case, I am trying to get Sunday with a 1 1/2 size outside border while having the inside be 1/2. Is this possible? I've wrestled with it for hours so I thought I would check! Thanks for any help!

Find Certain Greek Words and Format Them in MS WORD 2010

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 09:44 PM PDT

I have a long MS WORD 2010 file that has many Greek words. I need to search for and format only those words which contain the following pattern:

Namely, only words (ignore the quotes) that have an "@" followed immediately by a "v" and one space at the end of the word (there are several spaces below for the sake of clarity)

From

tsjsjsjsjs@vdjdjjdjj   gjgjgjg@bckdkdk   rererere@vcdd etc.

To

tsjsjsjsjs@vdjdjjdjj   gjgjgjg@bckdkdk   rererere@vcdd etc/

The first and third words have the pattern (an @v and final space, while the second word is ignored).

I would deeply appreciate you help in this matter.

I have Adobe documents I used to open in WORD and it would have English text. Now if I try to open them, it looks like machine code of some kind.

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 01:27 PM PDT

Here's a sample of what I get instead of english text.  I have  these backed up in Carbonite and can read them in English there, but if I save them to WORD, I get the same code stuff when I open them in WORD.  Appreciate any help with this....

E-mail a Directory by Page - Word 2013

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 06:34 AM PDT

Hey all,

I am working with a spreadsheet where multiple rows can be associated with a single person. For example, each row could have a column for group name, comment, the name of the person that group is associated with, and their e-mail address. The problem is I want all the rows with one person's name to show up on a single page in the mail merge instead of one page for every record. I have managed to accomplish this by using a directory. The end result is that I have one page in the directory document for each person. I would now like to e-mail each page of my directory document to the appropriate person. Is it possible to do this in Word?

Thanks.

Missing Product Key

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 02:19 AM PDT

I have owned and operated a laptop with MS Office Home & Business 2010 since 11/30/2011. Yesterday mid-afternoon I became locked out of word/excel/etc with a dialogue box saying I needed to enter my product key for setup?

If I try to bring up a new app it says Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this application...

-

I have had a virus on my laptop since 5/23/13. I uninstalled all things installed on that day. Unfortunately there was something from Microsoft .NET Framework that also had that date. That was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. The last updates from .Net Framework were 6/20/2013 and 5/16/2013, but whatever was from 5/23/2013 was deleted.

Will not change Language in Word - Office Home & Business 2013

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 02:57 AM PDT

Software: Word - Office Home & Business 2013,  Windows 7 Professional in German.

In Options -> Language, I have English UK set as default for Editing, Display and Help.

In Review -> Language -> Set Proofing Language, I select English UK, I clicked on Set As Default.  I got a message asking

„Do you want to change the Default language to English UK?  This change will affect all new documents based on the NORMAL template."

I selected Yes and OK. However, the software keeps trying to spellcheck even new text in German and, as you see above, gives me German-style inverted commas for speech.

I have tried closing and reopening Word:
Every time I open Word it goes back to having German as default in Review  Language -> Set Proofing Language.
Options -> Language still shows English for Editing, Display and Help but it has no effect when I open a new template.

I never had any problems with earlier versions of Word with same setup.

Strange, my man page indicates (and I find) it in /var/lib/dhcp.
Perhaps they've changed it.

I assume this is from your reading of source code?

My man pages indicate:

_When_ a new lease is acquired, it is appended to the
end of the dhclient.leases file.

_Before_ dhcpd grants a lease to a host, it records the
lease in this file and makes sure that the contents of the file are
flushed to disk.

Never compiled it or even looked at the source. All attempts to do
LFS get overtaken with other duties so it's nice to know someone out
there may be carrying through to the end.

I did look at all my init scripts and the only "call" made was to
dhclient -- a binary executable -- which I assume was made from the
ISC source. It uses(?) dhclient-script (which is supplied with the
ISC source?). BTW, this is an old (but freshly updated) box running
RH8. dhcpd has never been loaded but the dhcpd.leases file exits
(empty). ifdown simply kills the running dhclient.

Looking at dhclient-eth0.leases I can see that it was indeed updated
at boot when I acquired a new lease on boot this AM. It doesn't make
good sense (or seem to be good practice) to attempt to write to these
files at shutdown. The needed data has already been saved to disk and
you would run the risk of corruption when overwriting them with
duplicate data at shutdown. The data should be written when the lease
request is acknowledged and given. And you shouldn't have to do this
yourself -- except by way of the startup init script.

Does the source include any init examples? I assume that is why mine
calls dhclient in ifup -- to start dhclient and to force a read of the
lease file and acquire a new lease if needed.

Except for something not right/gone wrong I can't imagine why you are
having to do this. I can understand if you don't have an ifup script
that includes the proper calls to dhclient, etc. but that is about all
you should have to do.

BTW, your dhcp-3.0pl2.tar.gz is dated 01/15/03 while the newest is
dhcp-3.0.1.tar.gz (dated 07/16/04):

Yes, via running X-Windows servers on the clients. (X has this odd idea that
the software displaying things on your local machine is a "server", rather
than calling it a "client" like a web browser is a client. Stay aware of
this or you will become confused like the rest of us.)

Fortunately, there are plenty of those available, ranging from a VNC client
(which works well on many platforms, including via Java in a web browser)
but requires a VNC server on the application server, to installing CygWin on
the Windows boxes to provide X servers, etc., etc. But you pay a real
performance penalty running those remotely, and they can be pesky to set up.
You need to spend a lot of time and thought into what you want to support
and how you want to do it.

Not unless it's specially licensed, such as running VMware to run Windows
applications, or unless you run out of RAM and CPU to support all the
copies.

Oh, yes. You can support any modern mail servers and client login systems
(such as sendmail with IMAP or preferably IMAPS access), or even a webmail
server.

Is the software you're using Linux based, or Windows based? Getting Windows

To assign a password to root, do this:

1. When lilo boot selection menu appears, select "failsafe"
2. It will get you into a single user, text oriented console. Issue
"passwd" command there, and set your root password.
3. Reboot and when you logged in KDE as root, go into K (the left-bottom
button with a star on it) -> System -> Configuration -> Configure your
desktop. (You can also run it via "drakconf" in console or X terminal). It
is your all-in-one system management control panel. From within
"drakconf", go to System -> Users nad Groups, and open a user account
there. I usually open an account for my daily use, and another "guest"
account so that I can let a friend or a visitor use my PC without having
to enter them into my private domain.

The "Configure your computer" (drakconf) and "Configure your desktop"
(kcontrol) are two tools that you would use to manage your PC and your
personal preferences (only relevant to your userid), respectively.

Hi Andrew,

When Project does its levelling, it ONLY DELAYS tasks until the resource
becomes available - nothing more. So, if you see a Duration of 21 days, it
is because tasks have been delayed in favour of other tasks. Remember that
the Duration of the Summary Task is the working time between the start of
the first task to the end of the last task. If you examine the Gantt Chart,
you will see gaps in this group of tasks where a task from another group has
been "given" the resource.

I thoroughly recommend you take a short introductory course on Project to
get you up and running quickly. No project management software is easy to
pick up - the more so if you're not familiar with the project management
techniques on which it is based.

In the meantime, you might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft

Re installation of Project ... well, if you don't have the right disks

a way around it. Your options are to find the right disks, or buy a new

Getting MS-Project's HWnd from add-in

Heh. A perfect example of NOT using what's available and thus working harder
than necessary.
Just do:
prjApplication.ScreenUpdating := False;
(see ScreenUpdating on MSDN) where prjApplication is of type _MSProject
(that's your root variable for anything Project-related, e.g.
prjApplication.ActiveProject.whatever etc., might be called a bit
differently depending on your development tool -- that's what Project VBA
calls Application, but Delphi has its own Application variable so I
renamed). Anyhow don't forget to set ScreenUpdating back to True eventually
;)

Regarding the toolbar button, I once had some crazy person simulating
pressing a button via WinAPI command (he had good reasons, long story), so
in such a case Project won't have the focus. I'm beginning to think I'd just
have to settle for FindWindow plus creating a mechanism for the user to
manually select the Project window in case something goes wrong :(

Also, Project does have Windows and Windows2 properties, but no HWnd
anywhere that I can find.

I don't think you can really do that the way you might like. For that you
may just want to set up a Calendar group on the email server that contains
all users you want to be able to access the mailbox calendar folders. Then
each user who wants to have their mailbox Calendar shared you would just have
them right click on that, select properties and then go to Permissions. They
would then add the Calendar group with rights as they would like but you
would still have to have each workstation open the particular mailbox /
calendar for every user that they might want to access their calendar. So I
guess the answer as far as I am familiar with is yes you would have to go to
each workstation. Sorry!

Here is the quick snap shot what I have here.

Old network administrator is migrated exchange 5.5 servers to a exchange
2003, all mail boxes are migrated already and exchange 2003 is the primary
exchange.

When you go to exchange system manager and expand the servers, I get an
error which states"An error occurred while retrieving the requested
information. The Microsoft Exchange Information Store is not running or the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. ID no: c103074d.
Exchange System Manager"

I do not want to have exchange 5.5 servers any more, if you go to exchange
5.5 servers and open system manager, you are able to see everything as well.
I was asked to retire the exchange servers, they are causing problems, and
such as outlook web access is not working. I am not the one who has done the
migration, but I have to clean it up a little bit.

I am able to understand actually all the notes from Microsoft; the thing is
I have never done it. Old exchange servers are still replication; I know I
have to stop replication, so I can remove them.

Incoming Emails from specific domains take a long time to be received.

Hello,

I would appreciate it if anybody can help me figure what could be
causing the two major problems that we are facing, and if there is
anything that I can do from my end to fix the issues:

Environment:

We are running Exchange Server 5.5 SP4 on a Win NT 4 (SP6) OS. OWA and
IIS are also running on the same machine. We also have an internal DNS
server (Windows 2000 Server OS) running in our LAN.

Problem #1;

We recently started receiving System Administrator Messages for every
Outgoing email (that is sent to an internet email addresses); the text
in the System Admin messages is shown below:

Workaround thus far: If the Exchange Services or the server is
restarted, then this problem goes away for several hours and then
starts ocurring again. Please let me know if there is a permanent fix
for this, as this is the first time this is happening since we
installed the Exchange server over 4 years ago.

Problem #2:

Incoming emails that come from a few selected domains sometimes take
4-6 hours to be received by our users. For Example: if com
sends a message to com, it takes several hours for
the email to finally be delivered to com. Again,
this problem only started happening recently. I can't seem to
understand why this problem only occurs with a few selected domains as
emails from any other domain only takes a 1-2 minutes (max) to arrive
in our users' mailboxes. Please help me to figure what could be
causing this problem and if there is anything that I need to do on our
server.

Hope to hear from anyone soon.

Thank you,

Using Windows 7 Enterprise (Build 7601) with Office Professional Plus 2013 I am getting differing numbers for the word count which shows at the bottom of the document in Word and that showing in the folder the document is stored in (by right clicking in the column bar, selecting more and choosing the Word Count option).

Word shows: 102,043
Folder shows: 83535

Let me know if you need any further info.

How to show two non-consecutive pages in Word

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 01:53 AM PDT

I've just moved from my beloved, highly customised, word 2002 to word 2013 (on Windows 7).  In 2002 I was able to split the document window horizontally into two panes, and then control each pane separately.  When working on a large document, I could display two non-consecutive parts of that document at once.  This made cutting and pasting, and task such as checking on style consistency across my document, amongst other things, very easy.  Is this still possible in 2013?  I've looked all over the place, plus searched the help files and the internet, but can find nothing.  If this is no longer available, has something replaced this functionality.  Thanks...

WD2013: Change source of links

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 12:36 PM PDT

Where is the equivalent dialogue to Edit/Links in WD2003?

(I am referring to links created by copying a range of cells or a chart in Excel and in Word using Paste Special / Paste Link.)

The last part of a 160-page document got cut off after editing and saving. The first 48 pages remain. Can it be recovered?

Editing was done on a flash drive. Windows 7, MS Word 2007. Lost pages 49-160.

How can I set preferences for global formatting (auto text etc) for only one document and not all of them?

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 04:04 AM PDT

I work with documents that I receive as templates and have to type into them using 2003 format, and removing all auto text and auto type formatting, i.e. no curly quotes or automatic apostrophes.  Then I need to work on my own documents where I want all that formatting back in my document.  How to achieve this?

Hiding format differences when printing merged documents generated by "compare" function

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 08:35 AM PDT

I'm using Word 2010.  I use "Compare," under the Review tab, to generate merged documents to allow me to compare edits in technical documents of some length.  It is important that I be able to exclude formatting changes from this comparison, as they are numerous and clutter the output to the point where it ceases to be useful.  An inability to print useful versions of these merged documents is very troublesome.

Under View tab, I have selected "Print Layout."  In the Review tab, under Show Markup, I unchecked "Formatting."  The display is correct (i.e., does not include format changes) as is the "Print Preview" display.  However, the printed copy includes all formatting changes.  This happens when I print to pdf as well.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How to insert text outside margins

Posted: 28 Jun 2013 08:10 PM PDT

My wife is including a children's book she's written in her thesis.  Page layout for the book is landscape, the thesis format is portrait.  I've got the book margins set and have inserted her pages as JPEG images.  The reader can turn the thesis sideways and read the children's book; then turn the book back when resuming the thesis material.  All is fine so far.  Nest, I need to insert thesis page numbers within the standard thesis margins (which, of course, are outside the landscape page margins).

I will have to do the same thing with some Excel charts (that is, mix landscape and portrait page layouts, but keep page numbers in the upper right hand corner of all pages when the thesis is held in a "portrait position."

How can I accomplish this?

yes it works fine, but install it before you install SP2 as I've had a

A file relating to web editing does'nt install when SP2 is in place.

Open With Missing

Donna,

I would just open the .txt file in excel in the normal way. Just open the excel and
File, Open, File of types [Text Files]

Now just follow the import wizard on the screen.

Please note that desktop folder is as follows:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Desktop
USERNAME = your login/username

I don't know why you don't have "Open With" item!!! M$ short changed you!!

Hope this helps.

Appreciate the information, but I gather that I do need to go into the
Import/Export and have them brought over from Express?

Can't Install Microsoft Office Pro 2003

MS Office Professional 2003 could not have been on your Windows ME machine
as it explicitly does NOT run on non NT 5.x operating systems. Windows ME
was a 9x. based system.

Thanks for the link.

I read somewhere on here that the pst file for Outlook
2003 is not backwards compatible with Outlook XP-could
this be the source of why my Outlook XP now does not work ?

I am considering going out and buying the Office 2003
software-perhaps this will fix the issue ....
