Microsoft Word - color in track changes

color in track changes

Posted: 09 May 2013 01:06 PM PDT

I am making edits using 2013 Word in a document created in Word 2010 with several authors and editors.
In TrackChanges, I cannot display my edits in color without "show full markup", which brings up all the previous authors' edits. In "simple markup" my edits show only black. I have tried changing all the colors in the "advanced options" box, which is maddeningly hidden.
I suspect this is a glitch between old and new Word users.
I was reduced to highlighting my changes.

"in line with text" picture, fails in word 2010

Posted: 09 May 2013 11:07 AM PDT

I am using Word 2010. I have copied a picture from another document and pasted it in the one I am working on (or I have tried inserting a png, or a jpg in my current document). I can only see the bottom of the picture. The rest of it seems to be slipped up under the text above it. I have added a bottom shadow to the object, and now that's all I can see, but at least I know where the object is now.

If I click on the picture, I can see the outline of the object, again, behind the text above where I have pasted/inserted the picture. When I click on the picture, I see round handles in the corners and a square handle in the middle of each side.

When I check the Picture > Format > Position, nothing is highlighted. I click on "in line with text" and the dialog closes, but the method doesn't seem to do anything.

When I check the Picture > Format > Wrap Text box, it is already set to "in line with text". If I change it to anything else, the image appears. But I would prefer to use the "in line" setting.

When the picture is selected, the options for bring forward and send backward are gray.

How do I get my picture to use the "in line with text" setting?

Tabbing changes when restarting numbered list

Posted: 09 May 2013 04:52 AM PDT

I have set-up a style with a numbered list.
The default tab sizes are way too big for what I need, so I changed them.
Now if I restart the numbering for a new list, it messes up the tabbing, but only for the restarted number, all the subsequent numbers remain the same. If I click the style again to apply the correct formatting it switches the number back to the next number from the previous sequence. The issue is on the line wrap is tabbed more than on other entries. It took ages to get all the tabs and indents to do what I want, very frustrating but doable, until this little quirk!

My style has:
Paragraph: Left 0.5cm Hanging 0.75 cm
Tabs 1.25cm

Looking in the style description there is also:
Left aligned at 0.5 cm
Indent at 1.5 cm
It looks like these are the issue, but I can't see where I can edit these additional values for left align and indent?
I think changing the indent from 1.5 to 1.25 would solve the problem, but where is that value hiding?

Word 2007 - macro to insert an image and specify its size, position and text wrapping

Posted: 08 May 2013 10:09 PM PDT

Hi there,

I've been looking for a way to create a macro that allows the user the following:

- open the "Insert Picture" browser to let them select an image
- insert the image with the following attributes:
    - Text wrapping: in front of text
    - Picture size: width = 21.1cm, height = 8.5cm, Lock Aspect ratio = false
    - Position: Horizontal = Absolute Position 0 cm to the right of Page, Vertical = Absolute Position 6.5 cm below Page

I have a feeling that it shouldn't be too difficult but my Visual Basic knowledge doesn't go far beyond the macro recorder which doesn't allow me to record any of the steps/settings above.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dennis

I CAN COPY PART OF A LIST OF NAMES FROM WORD TO WORD TABLE BUT ANOTHER PART WILL ONLY COPY PART OF THE NAME

Posted: 08 May 2013 03:00 PM PDT

merge multiple documents into one master document

Posted: 08 May 2013 02:31 PM PDT

I'm having trouble finding info about this; everything I've seen is either three years old and doesn't pertain to Word 2007 or says it can't be done.

I want to know if it's possible to have a document (Letter A) that, when I merge it with a list of names, also pulls text from another document (Letter B). The problem is that I want to be able to edit Letter B and have Letter A just magically know I edited B without having to open Letter A and update the field.

Here's a simplified example (my final document will include more inserted files but if I can figure out one, I know I can get the rest to work):

I have 30 different letters that I merge with an Excel file and send to clients. They're all signed by the same person. That person quits and I have to update every letter (Letter A) with the new person's name. Is it possible to use InsertText or something similar to insert Letter B (which would contain the signature)? And if I edit Letter B in the future, will Letter A know it?

Thanks,

Why is the spacing before a paragraph on a new page affected by the spacing after the last paragraph on the previous page?

Posted: 08 May 2013 09:51 AM PDT

Why is the spacing before a paragraph on a new page affected  by the spacing after the last paragraph on the previous page?

I have my style "Heading1" set to have a page break before it, and I also have it set to have 78pt spacing before it. When I alter the style of the last paragraph on the previous page, e.g. from "Text" (set to have 12pt spacing after paragraph) to Table (set to have 0pt spacing after paragraph) the spacing before the Heading1 paragraph changes! Has anyone noticed this? Can I stop it happening?

Table cell bullet spacing

Bookmarking within a document - Creating an active Table of Contents

Posted: 06 May 2013 01:52 AM PDT

I am almost finished with building my book for Amazon Kindle. An active Table of Contents is required to be able to link directly to the beginning of a chapter. I have Word Starter 2010, which does not have the TOC feature. In the "Building Your Book for Kindle" guidelines, it mentions that manual bookmarking would have to be done for people using Macs. I'm thinking that maybe that's what I'll have to do since I have no TOC feature in Word Starter, unless there is a way to hyperlink within the document. How do I create an active TOC in Word Starter 2010? I'm using a Windows 7- 64 bit laptop computer.

Thank you in advance,

Hello,
I use word 2007, I have read that when you can't insert a picture into word 2007 because of unsupported file type, you can copy the picture and paste it in word. Is that right? and if it is right, what happens? is the picture file type converted to some type supported in word 2007?

Add Hyperlink to Text in a column

Posted: 07 May 2013 10:34 AM PDT

I have 72 page document with multiple columns.
One of the columns is a six digit number that I need to make a hyperlink, but I need the text to remain the same.

I tried to make a find and replace in the style of hyperlink using the following syntax
Find: <03[0-9]{4}>
Options Use Wildcard

Replace With https://www.someurl.com/sessNum=^&

The replace turns the colum into the full URL.
I am guessing I need to do a macro or something so the visible text doesn't change and it only adds a hyperlink to the word.

What is the best way to go about doing this?

Why would automatic footnote numbers jump from 1 to 3?

Borders in cells (again)

Posted: 06 May 2013 10:44 PM PDT

I know that borders in cells is a major bone of contention, but hopefully someone will have a solve for this.

I am trying to create a postcard.  I am using the paper "1/4 letter", landscape, so my four postcards are 5.5" wide by 4.25 tall.  I used the Labels function to create the 2x2 table.  Now, I want borders on all four postcards.  Not terribly wide ones, but decorative.  But no matter what I select, the bottom row of cells is bumped to the next page.

I know this has something to do with margins, but I can't figure out if it's PAGE margins or CELL margins.  Or maybe cell spacing?  Or it just can't be done?

Any help appreciated.

Office 97 to Office 2000 upgrade but keep Access 97, if so how?

Posted: 04 Aug 2004 01:57 AM PDT

Hi Steve,

Yes, you can install Office 2000 and you can use a custom install
to remove all of Office 97 except Access97 if you choose not to
upgrade Access as well. You may want to start with the tools
and information in the Office 2000 Resource Kit for more information
http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2000

Note that Office 97 uses a different installer/setup program than
Office 2000 and you may run into issues where the installer runs
a lot to 'switch' from Office 97 to Office 2000 being the 'current'
version that is used by the operating system.

Office 2003 sp1 network install

So, I can not use GP to push out a client install, but must use SMS or some

This is really disappointing.

If I had realized this I would have went with an administrative install

Is there a way to get a compressed cd image of the full Office 2003

The origonal software, ie the software you used prior to 2003 is part of yr
licence and as such you have to keep it.
It is not neccessary to install the old software prior to upgrading, as
during the install of yr upgrade 2003 you will get the msg 'cannot find
qualifying product' at this time you insert old cd, and point the 2003
install to it.

Finding a modem with COM/IRQ jumpers

Posted: 12 Jul 2004 10:10 AM PDT

Great stuff, everyone. Thank you!

I am glad to hear about the USR modem, which I may try, and the
external serial modem option. I am especially glad to get the advice
on building my own driver, which I have wanted to try for a while,
now. One of the cooler things I have always admired about the Linux
community is their willingness to write software to fit their
situation. I can't imagine needing to do the same on a Winbox!

I appreciate your help, folks.

I am log on as root when insmod:

<rootttyp1[iL_hybrid]# insmod -f il.o>

I'm also running the files off a USB key.
It's the following lines I don't understand:

<il.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.>

Microsoft Word - Metadata/Track Changes Question

Microsoft Word - Metadata/Track Changes Question

Metadata/Track Changes Question

Posted: 07 May 2013 11:53 AM PDT

In Word when using Track Changes, you can hover your courser over a tracked insertion and a bubble pops up that displays who made that change, when they made it, and also repeats the text that is inserted. The goal is to remove some of that metadata but not all of it. I need the inserted text to remain in Track Changes formatting but I need the bubble that displays who made the change and when it was made to be permanently removed. Does anyone know if this is possible?

p.s.- I've used the standard Word tool where you go to [Prepare] and [Inspect] and removed the metadata that way. That removes the what I want to be removed along with the insertion that I want to remain.

Spell check autocorrect

How do I add to the spell check dictionary without going to the options/proofing and adding it there. Can I add it with a right clik like earlier versons?

How do I stop blank document from opening automatically every time Word is opened (in windows 8)?

Posted: 07 May 2013 05:42 AM PDT

When I open the Word tile, word opens with a blank document.  This blank stays open after I've selected something else, and must always be closed separately.  How do I stop this?  Thanks.

Cross-referencing Unnumbered headings?

Posted: 06 May 2013 07:14 PM PDT

Could anyone tell me how to cross-reference Unnumbered headings? (e.g., H1 Unnumbered, H2 Unnumbered)

They do not seem to appear in the Cross-reference dialog box.

What I need to do is to place a page number of each Unnumbered heading.

Thank you in advance.

How to change two pages into one page via scaling printing??

Posted: 06 May 2013 06:02 PM PDT

Dear All,

I edited two pages in word 2007 and i want to print them in one page. I remember that in Word 2003 I can print two pages in one page by adjustiing the scaling of print preview (such as 80% ,the two pages change to on page in the print preview). But now i cannot find this setting in the Word 2007.

Could you please tell me how to do it.Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Sorting ranges of numbers in a Word Table

Posted: 06 May 2013 12:48 PM PDT

I know how to sort a Word table by positive real numbers (e.g., 5.1, 6.2 or 9.0), but the sorting I need to do involves ranges of numbers (e.g., 6.2-9.1, which is not intended to be an arithmetical calculation resulting in the number -2.9; what the range actually represents is the bloom period for a plant described in the table, in this case blooming from the second half of June (6.2) through the first half of September (9.1), i.e., Summer).  Can Word tables containing these sorts of range entries be sorted (perhaps if the range were set out differently, e.g., 6.2/9.1 or 6.2...9.1)?  TX

I must have changed a setting to screw this up. When I open a saved document in Microsoft Word there is a blue dotted box around it and blue dotted lines between each sentence. It once was a plain document without all that. Can you help?

How do I permanently get rid of One Note when I print?

Loss of predefined style formats in word 2003 .dot file when opening in word 2010

Posted: 06 May 2013 09:57 AM PDT

Hi all,

I work for a client who has provided a template in 2003 word for completion of a report (they haven't upgraded yet, so can't provide a 2010 template). It has within it predefined styles, i.e. bullet points, reference, footer formatting. My entire office has been upgraded to 2010 which means when I now open the template the styles are all the "quick style"s.  Where are all the styles that have already been set in the document?

On opening an older document produced when we had 2003 and trying to save the styles to the quick style tab it informs me that the names already exist, so they are obviously still available, just hidden from view. On trying to paste special the styles over doesn't always work. Feel very much like I am hitting my head off a brick wall with office 2010 when trying to do stuff that was simple in 2003.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Sara

My cursor moves around the page on its own, why windows 8

Is is possible to have 2 Normal.dotm templates operating at the same time, one for personal use, one for company-wide use?

Posted: 05 May 2013 05:40 PM PDT

In past versions of Word it was possible to create a Normal.dot template and rename it (we called ours DP.dot) which contained styles, macros etc. in use company-wide.  We were also able to have available a local Normal.dot that contained our own personal styles/macros etc.

This seems to be a little problematic with Word 2013 for renaming a "company-wide" "Normal" template meant we lost some functionality around auto-text conversion to Word 2013.  I've overcome that problem by renaming the DP.dot back to nORMAL.dotm so that (when viewing it from the Macro Editor/Organizer or when saving building blocks etc. it was easy to differentiate between the two Normal templates).

That gave me back the functionality I was looking for, but then I find that keyboard shortcut keys assigned to styles saved in the company-wide template (nORMAL.dotm) do not work.  Those shortcut keys will work if you have that template open, but not otherwise.  Also those often used company-wide styles are showing in the Quick Styles Gallery when that nORMAL.dotm template is open, but those styles are not showing in a blank document.  I am assuming this is because the blank document is created from the locally available Normal.dotm rather than the company-wide nORMAL.dotm.

How can I make those styles available in the Quick Styles Gallery or make the keyboard shortcuts for those styles work when nORMAL.dotm is just running in the background, rather than being the template behind the open blank document.

Maybe I'm going about this all the wrong way.

Any help in steering me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Right-click boxes incomplete in Word and Office 2010

Posted: 02 May 2013 02:40 PM PDT

When using the right-click mouse button in Word 2010 and Excel 2010 only parts of the drop down menu/right-click boxes appear. Usually the top bar and some of the other information. Since the top bar is visible, I can close and re-open and then it's fine(usually). Typically using for creating a hyperlink, or with pictures, font editing, etc.  I am using a Dell Inspirion N5110, Windows 7, Home and Student Office 2010. Your suggestions to fix this problem are VERY welcome!

Ascending numbered macro in Word

Posted: 01 May 2013 07:44 PM PDT

I am trying to create a macro for a transcript in Word 2007 that will increase by one each time it is used in a document.  For example:

1.  Q.     How are you?

     A.     I am fine.

2.  Q.     How old are you?

     A.     I am ten.

3.  Q.    Where do you live,

and so on.

I have tried and tried but just can't seem to master it.   I can get the 1st one but that's it.   Would appreciate any help I can get.  Thanks.Ascending
