7.0 Uninstall/Reinstall failure AGAIN!!

Posted: 15 Aug 2004 09:48 AM PDT

Since word processing seems to be the dominant area of
concern at the moment. why not try a custom install of
only Word and see how that goes? If successful, perhaps
you could later install the other components of the suite
that you want. This approach might require that the
installer install Works, but that's OK. The complete
Works Suite will not be installed, if you uncheck Money,
PictureIt!, Encarta and Streets & Trips (or whatever is
included with Works Suite 2003. I am looking at Works
Suite 2001.) Or is that what you have done already,
since you have not mentioned the other applications
individually?

Thomas,

I assume you would like an honest answer, so, no, I did
not mean Office Student/Teacher.

I purchased my laptop at Best Buy so I had no choice as
to the software installed. I have Win XP Small Business
Office 2002 on my home desktop (I am retired) and use
only Word, Excel and Outlook. That's what I would like on
my laptop, but MS makes it too damn complicated and
expensive. I can't determine how much purchasing Office
2003 out of the trial will cost but it's sure to be much
more than Office Basic 2003 (99.00 on a new computer).

Works 7.0 only complicates the issue as I have no desire
to have to convert Works documents to Office documents
and vice versa. Besides, the last time I used Works there
was a real issue with the Task Launcher which Dell
finally had me delete!

I'm planning on using my son's copies of Word, Excel and
Outlook 2003 and see no reason to use up hard disk space
with Works and the trial Office.

OK, I've got my Nomex suit on if a flame is headed my
way! ;-)

Take your new WinXP disc and insert it in the drive. Follow the steps in the
setup program - it will ask you what partition you want to install on - just
pick C:

Make sure that you do a reformat and clean install and not just a repair.

Re-install of 7.0 Problems

Posted: 14 Aug 2004 05:49 PM PDT

Hi Linda,

Often, even after using Add/Remove Programs there are remnants
of a program in the Windows registry.

There are two utilities provided to help clear the way for a successful
reinstall, they are the Works Clean-Up Utility and Windows installer
clean up utility.

These two Microsoft Knowledge Base articles help explain the process
that usually allows Works to be successfully reinstalled.

Would someone please help restore my sanity??

Posted: 14 Aug 2004 10:22 AM PDT

Hi Bill,

Since Works 4.5 is not installed you may proceed to install
Works 4.5 as normal, and use Works 4.5 with WinXp almost
as you did with Win98SE. Works 4.5 may be unaware of
technologies that have come after it.

Works 8 database is similar to Works 7 database and mail merge
proceeds as shown in these videos.

How to perform a mail merge in Works 7.0
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832797

How to perform a mail merge in Works Suite 2004 by using Word 2002
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832796

Neither Works 6 nor Works 7, uses Word as the word processor for
mail merge but Works Suite versions do use Word.

The works word processor program file is named WksWp.exe and is
available in all versions of Works, Suite does not display it in the Task
Launcher nor are the templates provided for it. Suite uses Word and
offers templates for that instead.

Works: How to Create a Shortcut to the Works Word Processor
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=280678

Recent versions of Works does not carry formatting of numerics across
in a mail merge and this is a major deficiency of Works for many users.

The Microsoft Internet Mail and News and Outlook Express programs do not come with a spell
checker. They will use the spell checker from any of several Microsoft 32-bit
(Win95/98/NT4 specific) programs. If using Works 4.0, a registry change is required. The
Works 7 spell checker is not compatible with Outlook Express. There are also some

Works 6.0 Data Base Report

Posted: 12 Aug 2004 08:03 PM PDT

Thanks Kevin. I followed your instructions and did get the report. One
problem I have is that I must use Portrait mode rather than landscape to
keep report formatting.
Someone emailed me to try CutePDFWriter. Once I created the report in Works
and used smaller fonts because I changed to Portrait, when I went to print
it I got printer panel and I selected CutePDFWriter. It created a PDF file.
I'm going to go that route since most people have adobe and I can email as

Thanks again.

Hi Colin,

The number of fonts that need removing varies with your computer
configuration though most systems are stable with fewer than 500
fonts installed.

It is know for this issue to arise with as few as 300 fonts installed.
Font file size can vary considerably.

I don't know too much, but I believe OOo and SO are essentially the same
expect you usually pay for SO, but you get some clip art and a database

Comparing OOo 2.0 and MSO 2003 is probably good. You may want to search

Congratulations, but I'm afraid you cannot "activate" the Test Drive for
ongoing use. If you intend to use your prior purchased version you need to
install *it*, using the key that applies to it, on the new system. The Test
Drive is just _that_ - a limited free trial that expires in 30 days, period.

Make sure that *before/while* you install the purchased version (X or 2004 -
you didn't mention which) you uninstall the Test Drive using the Remove
Office utility application. DO NOT just drag the TD to the Trash if any of
the TD programs have ever been launched.

I should also mention that unless you have the Student & Teacher package
(which provides 3 licenses) that you might be obligated to remove Office
from the previous system before installing it on the new one - review the
EULA for whatever package you have.

MSCRM API failing with User defined fields.Help !

Posted: 16 Feb 2004 03:32 AM PST

Anand,

The fieldname has to match excactly what is in the DB schema. The
prefix that is auto-added in actually in UPPER case, so at a minimum,
your field should be CFStestfield. Hoewever, if you capitalized
anything in the name, it would need to match as well.

If you look in the accountbase table, you can verify the correct
fieldname to use.

Splitting leads to multiple users.......

Richard,

You can multi-select (<CTLR>-click) the leads from the list view and
the use Action..Assign to assign them to another rep.

You can't remove them. Best you can do is create a tab
called 'Do Not Use' and stick these suckers in there, and
relable them so there is less confusion when users try to
query. (Yes, this is not good news, I know.) the reason
is that the recalculate button on this form auto-
calculates the revenue from the opportunity products
attached to it. (Unless you check the manually
calculated radio button, which I guess is why that field
is "system required" too.

I really hope in 2.0 that NOTHING is system required, and
ALL functionality is REALLY exposed...

Activities View

Posted: 14 Feb 2004 04:06 PM PST

Bob,

If you search this group, you can find some who have posted a way to
do this. It basically involves determing the GUID for the view you
want to modify and then setting up a URL to go into the editor on the
view.

BTW, this is an unsupported method and I haven't tried it, but it
should work fine from what I've read from others.

Paul,

Did your adminstrator have a license assigned to it? For some reason,
the product maintenance only appears for users that have a license,
even if they are assined the rights to maintain the catalog.

CRM 1.2 error

Posted: 13 Feb 2004 12:51 PM PST

Joseph,

Did you add the CRM server to the pre-w2k access group? This is
needed to allow the local system to acces SQL.

Also, check the event log on both the SQL server and the domain
controller. I ran into a weird problem once where there was a problem
with how SQL got registered with AD and it was causing authnetication
problems when trying to connect with local system.

Audit Using Picklist OnChange Event Javascript?

Posted: 13 Feb 2004 11:16 AM PST

Dave,

The call-out you are thinking of would be pretty straight forward.
I'd recommend first getting a basic callout to work (something like
the sample provided online that just puts a msg in the event viewer or
something like that). That way, you know you've got the plumbing
working properly. While they are easy to write, the callouts are
pretty sentisitve when setting them up and can sometimes be a real
pain.

Once you've got the framework working, your looking at just issuing a
retrieve to get the XML details of the case and then writing that info
to a table.

Callout problems (not working at all)!

Posted: 13 Feb 2004 06:31 AM PST

Hi ronald,

I guess the problem is with the GUID that u r using for the ICRMCallout
interface. Please note that you will have to use the same GUID as in the
CRM SDK documentation.

you are using the following
[GuidAttribute("61D2E9D8-59E4-4305-819D-BA1073E44D72")]

instead try using
<Guid("F4233E5B-17DC-4661-9ABC-6707A9F99215")>

Move versus Delete in Track Changes

Posted: 24 Jan 2013 10:04 AM PST

I'm trying to determine the rules governing moving text as opposed to deleting and inserting text when using Track Changes in Word 2010 or 2007.

It appears that you have to select a complete sentence or paragraph to "move" text. You can select a complete sentence plus part of another sentence and still "move" but you cannot "move" just part of a sentence.

Is this true? Are there other conditions?

Is there an option to update a vast amount of existing documents with a new corporate template (includes headers/footers etc)

Posted: 24 Jan 2013 06:09 AM PST

Hi,

I've been tasked with updating over a thousand documents with a corporate template that includes headers, footers and a revision history table. Any documents going forward will be using the new template, but what about options for updating legacy documents?

Is there a way to do this instead of updating each file manually?

I am using Word 2013 preview and I have found a bug in the footers

Posted: 23 Jan 2013 03:59 PM PST

Hi guys

I am using Word 2013 preview

When I make a open a .doc in 2013 with a footer style with a top border on it, the border goes all the way across the page to the right outside the margins

Updating the style does not work

I have to save as a .docx then open in Word 2010, then resave then open in 2013 and it's all good again

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this and if not, where can I report a bug to Micrsoft

update index button grayed out

Posted: 23 Jan 2013 01:15 PM PST

Hi,

I am working on a Word 2010 document and would like to update only the index, but the Update index button is grayed out.

I can update the index by selecting the entire doc and pressing F9, but this updates everything - TOC and cross-references, fig numbers, etc. - which I don't want

Any insight as to what I need to change to make the button active is much appreciated!

How to set tabs precisely in Word 2010?

In Word 2002, you could just click Format | Tabs to precisely (by numerical value) set tabs, rather than do it imprecisely by clicking on an

approximate desired spot on the ruler.  Can anyone tell me how to do this in Word 2010?  Thanks.

Email program

Posted: 23 Jan 2013 10:28 AM PST

Hi

I was trying to send a Word doc as an email attachment. I am using Word 2013 on my Surface RT. I went File>Share>Email>Send as Attachment. When I clicked it, this error message came up:

'There is no email program associated to perform the requested action.  Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.'

What do I do? I tried to to go to Control Panel, and Default Programs but couldn't get this fixed. I never changed my default email program (well, I cant, the only email program on my Surface is the Mail App).

Your help is appreciated, Thanks.

Garbage characters in Work and Excel (old) files

Posted: 22 Jan 2013 05:24 AM PST

Since a couple of weeks, almost all my old Word and Excell documents are unreadable: when I open them, I see only funny characters, and Word  suggests me to convert the file to another language.

This is with Office 2003,  but I have installed Office 2010, same behaviour.

If I create a new document, no problem.  The timestamp on the old documents has not changed.  And there is no problem  with other file types (txt, pdf, images, etc).

Any idea on why this happened (virus?), and, more importantly, on how I can try to recover these files ?

Thanks,
