How do I setup Office Sounds in Office Professional 2003

Posted: 16 Oct 2006 04:01 AM PDT

Thanks - you are quite right - I had already done this, but what I did not
realise was that sound was muted!! My machine has a mind of its own. Best
wishes.

Office 2003 editions mix-up

Posted: 15 Oct 2006 12:10 AM PDT

Hi Bob,
thanks for the information!

It is not my purpose to install apps from two different editions. I'm just
trying to spot possible reasons for RMS not working in Outlook and working in
Excel and Word. I wondered if our admins could install only the later in Pro
edition and leave the OEM Outlook in Basic edition.
However, I was not sure how the IRM features would work in such setting.

Office Still Disabled - Read Only Mode

Posted: 14 Oct 2006 06:11 PM PDT

I am starting to think this is a activation problem, but anyway...when I
goto HELP>ACTIVATE, nothing happens. It doesn't hang, it just does
nothing, as if I didn't select anything at all. It does the same thing
in all applications.

This is a full, legal version. It's worked since 2003, now I did a full
restore on my computer, and it wont activate. Is there a maximum # of
activations with Office 2003?

Thanks again!

Office 2007 apps won't start after installing converters

Posted: 14 Oct 2006 06:01 PM PDT

Office 2003 was not installed prior to Office 2007. If the converters are
not intended for installation into Office 2007 then the web page from where
I downloaded them, and to which I was taken by a link from Office 2007, is
extremely ambiguous. Furthermore, if they're only intended for use with
earlier versions of Office, why did the converters install on a machine on
which I had never installed any earlier version of Office. This was an
installation of Vista RC2 with Office 2007, with Office installed off the
Office 2007 beta 2 DVD and no subsequent updates.

registry errors after Office 2003 installation

Then tell me, how else would someone learn that there are registry entries
that are not valid? Especially someone as unskilled as the OP appears to be
when it concerns the registry?

No Office Assistant character files

Posted: 13 Oct 2006 08:07 PM PDT

Open Add/Remove Programs, select Office, chose Repair or Modify.

Repair: try and fix the problem
Modify: Install/Uninstall features ... in the list (opening some of the
branches), you should come across Office Assistant. You can uninstall by
selecting the correct option.

Re-install Office

Posted: 13 Oct 2006 12:01 PM PDT

In theory, no. Re-install (or repair) SHOULD keep all patches and updates.

In reality, no. I have had it happened that not all checks/balances prevent
overwriting newer files with older ones.
And a lot of times, DLLs become de-registered in the registry.
