Install Office 2008 and then uninstall Office 2004 Posted: 16 Aug 2009 04:54 PM PDT I am not reinstalling Office 2008, but will use it instead of Office 2004. When I installed 2008 yesterday I recall the installer informing me that it would not install the fonts or the dictionaries, as they already existed because Office 2004 was already installed. They are in the Office 2004 application folder, but not in the Office 2008 folder. So if I now uninstall Office 2004 and the uninstaller removes the Office 2004 application folder it will also delete the fonts, dictionaries, templates, etc. I don't need both versions on my hard drive, but I also don't want to delete items that the new Office 2008 is using from the 2004 version. Do you know if I delete Office 2004 that 2008 will still work properly? |
Upgrade Office 2008 for Mac (Home and StudentEdition) to Full version of Office 2008? Posted: 15 Aug 2009 03:28 PM PDT To clarify, Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition IS eligible for version upgrade. Office 2008 Home and Student is NOT. The upgrade is intended to benefit customers who bought the previous version of Office for Mac. Hope this helps? |
Corrupted database under Snow Leopard. Can't install 12.2.0 Update Posted: 15 Aug 2009 12:34 PM PDT <com> wrote: Really??? I'm really really REALLY surprised. The installer relies on standard installation methods. Preventing an installation on 10.6 would mean major headaches when the new version of the system eventually comes out (you know that your NDA forbids you to even mention you have access to 10.6 right??). Well it runs according to what you are describing. It refuses to install telling you the database is corrupted apparently. Can you install in a new user account?? Office doesn't want to update even after reinstalling Posted: 14 Aug 2009 03:14 AM PDT On 8/18/09 7:30 AM, in article caR9absDaxw, "com" <com> wrote: No! The Apple combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re applyingno need to roll back or do a clean install. Leopard: Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update (For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs ) <http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update> When you are saying the combo didn't work, are you referring to the Apple 10.5.8 combo or the Microsoft 12.2.0 combo? The Microsoft combo does have requirements and the combo is simply previous updaters rolled into a combo. If you can't run the Apple combo then it's not surprising that the 12.2.0 (SP2) updater will not run. Let's look at your re-install. You mentioned your DVD comes with 12.1.0. Did you restart after installing from the DVD? Did you restart after download and running the 12.2.0 (SP2) updater? Restarting your computer after an update is important! Posted: 13 Aug 2009 06:43 PM PDT Well, it isn't the responsibility - or the right - of any application or update installation to force a restart of the system. [For some types of Utilities, drivers & specialty software it's a different story.] And if things go as they typically should there is absolutely no need for a system restart after applying a successful update to Office. The suggestion being offered is in the context of when a problem does occur. Secondly, what Diane wrote is that "This simple step could be the one thing that will fix your problems." & "Some times the temp folder does not get deleted after the update is done." Note the conditional terms "could" & "some times". In the majority of cases the problem doesn't occur & a restart isn't required. I don't dispute that the temp files "should" be deleted on completion of the update, but that's an issue to be addressed by Apple it's their installer. Home & Student Registration Conflict Posted: 13 Aug 2009 06:54 AM PDT The Product IDs as shown in the "About" panes for each installation of Office 2008 are different for all 15 digits. My networking is configured as a peer to peer ethernet RJ45 connected to a switch. There are two MacPros and a G4 each running OSX 10.5x. We started using the Student Home edition of Office 2008 June of 2008, having had 3 copies of Office 2004 before. I don't remember when the conflict presented itself since it was rare that two of us would launch an Office app at the same time. Dale On Aug 13, 2009, at 5:58 PM, CyberTaz wrote: My understanding is that if the first 15 digits of the PID match it is a clear indication that the same Key *was* used for both installations -- on that we agree. However, as I understand it the fact that the first 25 digits *aren't* identical is not definite proof that they * weren't* installed using the same Key. Are you saying that the first 15 digits of the PIDs -- not just the last 5 digits -- are different? How about providing fully descriptive details of your network setup? Perhaps something there may give a clue. |
