How to properly route Internet bound email? Posted: 18 May 2005 02:27 PM PDT Jim, Thanks for the reply. I actually have two Front End servers. One is strictly for OWA and the other one is for POP3 users to connect to and for SMTP email direct delivery. Let me explain. My setup is as follows My company has two MX records pointing to our SPAM SMTP gateways smtp1 and smtp2. We have 2 Front End servers We have 3 Back End servers I want all email coming from the Internet to be received by smtp1 and smtp2 where it is checked for SPAM. The email is then forwarded to my Front End server GW1 which then delivers it to the proper Back End server. For all outbound Internet SMTP email, I want the Back End servers to forward email to either smtp1 or smtp2. We have a basic set of outbound rules that we check for plus it give us a "choke point" to siphon off a copy of the email for archive. I do not follow your recommendation of : "I would create an SMTP Connector on the front-end server; use the SMTP virtual servers on the front-end as the bridgehead. Then configure JUST THAT CONNECTOR, not the SMTP virtual server, to use the smart hosts. " Could you elaborate further at it sound like it will work for me? Thanks, Fred "Jim McBee (MVP)" <spambegone.net> wrote in message news:%23YiSfK$phx.gbl... the user's to SPAM filtering to |

Message Store size not adding up Posted: 18 May 2005 12:22 PM PDT We have 58 GB free on our D drive (database drive) and 16 GB free on our C drive (system drive). C: is raid1 2x36GB and D: is raid5 3x36GB. Shadow Copies is disabled on both drives. Running Windows 2003 Standard (no SP -- Cisco VOIP constraints) but Exchange 2003 has SP1 installed. You might even find it on the root of the C drive on the sert server itself! Then put it on the client PC and open it, select install and follow the wizard through to make sure it installs into the Trusted Root Cert Authorities area. It really is a simple process. |

Posted: 16 May 2005 12:52 PM PDT We are just using IP, not IMAP. By relaying off us, I mean that we setup our clients Exchange server to use our gateway as a smarthost. "Mark Arnold [MVP]" wrote: |
Posted: 16 May 2005 07:44 AM PDT We are using Veritas Backup Exec v9.1 with the Exchange server agent. I checked again - we are using the option "FULL backups - Database and Logs(flush committed logs), set to "purge committed transaction logs when the backup completes" and still nothing get deleted or flushed. What is the keyword 'committed' logs imply? Thanks for your time. "Todd Fatheree" wrote: |

Survey of how big your Exchange mailbox should be Posted: 13 May 2005 02:11 PM PDT Good analysis, Ed, and a good procedure for others to follow in analyzing their own scenarios. Regarding cached mode having problems at 700MB, do you have any similar empirical evidence? I've dicussed this with Microsoft, and they said that they've backed off their initial warnings that cached mode .ost files greater than 1GB could be a problem. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "Ed Woodrick" <com> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... |
