Microsoft Word - Moving from VBA to C# for developing add-ins to Microsoft Office

Moving from VBA to C# for developing add-ins to Microsoft Office

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 12:52 PM PDT

I have heard that it is possible to write apps for Word in C# as a replacement for VBA.  I have just spent over an hour going through a bewildering maze of what seems to be conflicting information on the Web.  I see Visual Studio 2010 and 2013, I see Visual Studio Tools for Office, I see Office Interop, I see MSDN, I see .NET 4.5.  But I cannot find a simple roadmap of what to do if I want to move on from VBA. One of the key benefits for me would be to use the more mature Visual Studio as the IDE in place of the built-in VBA editor which is ... flaky ... to say the least.

I would be eternally grateful if someone can tell me if it is possible, what I need, what would I gain/lose and how much it would cost.  I am a retired software developer currently working on a non-profit project with no possibility of any remuneration whatsoever, so I cannot even think of spending thousands of dollars.  Free downloads would be ideal.

I am using Office 2010 currently but may upgrade to 2013 if needed.

Stop Word 2013 from printing extra page showing statistics

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 12:47 PM PDT

I have not found why Word Pro 2013 is printing an extra page showing the information shown in this image followed by my document.

This does not occur when printing any other content i.e. PDF, test print, internet content. This does not happen when printing in Word Pro 2010.

How do I turn this off for Word Pro 2013?

Content Control: Address Book Option?

I'm using content controls to create a form letter.  I would like a field that give the user the option to type in the addressee and address or to choose an address from his/her contacts list.  I can get the Address book into Word on the quick access toolbar.  is there a way to link that to an option in the drop down box?

Thank you.

"Word has run into an error"

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 11:12 AM PDT

hello, so I have had Microsoft Office 2013 for almost a full year and all of my Office programs work except for Word 2013. This is a new error that keeps occurring. Everytime I try to click on the Word icon the message "We're sorry but Word has run into an error that has prevented it from working properly". I have tried literally everything I can to get help with this problem; I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2013 over 3 times, I have changed the settings for Office, I have repaired Office and I even called Microsoft Support and spoke to 2 "experts" who could not help. I have also looked at all of these discussions to see if I could find a solution. Although I have read a lot of helpful comments, nothing has worked for me and I really need this program for school. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!

exporting documents new letterhead using batch method

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 09:48 AM PDT

Hi,

We have documents that were "exported" to new letterhead as the company logo changed over the years. This was done by using a macro. Once again the company logo/information has changed and I am being asked to export the information onto new letterhead.

Two parts to my question:

1) As the information was exported from one letterhead to another the versions of MS Office also changed, therefore old codes transferred along with the information. This makes the documents act strange at times. Can we remove old macros or code before transferring the information?

2) What is the best to move the information wholesale (batched) from letterhead to another?

Thanks!

Word 13 Visual Basics Error: The language VBE7INTL.DLL could not be found.

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 09:24 AM PDT

Hello,

everytime I launch Word 13 and try to create a blank document, this VB error pops up. After closing it, it'll come up a few more times, then Windows tells me, that the VB environment couldnt be initiliazed. Afterwards Word doesnt work anymoe.

I think the problem appeared when I installed the german language pack on my Surface.

It's not bc of too little RAM, and I already tried creating a new normal.dotm file, the new one has a little ! in the icon... Um, or does it have sth to do with the .dll file?

Any help would be kindly appreciated :)

Preserving text format when copying and paste special-ing from Excel to Word in Office 2010 Professional Plus

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 09:18 AM PDT

I am trying to copy a fairly complex spreadsheet (one that contains several simple mathematical functions coded into the document -- I mention this in case it might be having some effect on what I'm experiencing) from Excel to Word, but when I do so, the text within the cells is affected ... the spacing between some characters becomes wider, causing other characters to nearly overlap with one another and rendering the text whacky-looking on the whole. I am highlighting and copying the table within Excel, placing my cursor on the destination page in Word, clicking "Paste Special," and selecting "Paste as Microsoft Excel Worksheet Document."

Does anyone have any idea how I can accomplish transferring this table from Excel to Word WITHOUT messing up the text within the cells?

Thanks!

Make spell check ignore partial words followed by a hyphen?

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 08:07 AM PDT

I transcribe audio regularly.  My format requires that I transcribe partial words followed by two hyphens.  The spell check flags every one of these.  Is there a way to get the spell check to ignore them?  I tried adding *-- to the dictionary, but it didn't work.

Thanks.

How To Change Microsoft Word 2013 editable fields default setting. Do not want to have to click "View/Edit Document" to edit fields!

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 06:41 AM PDT

In the older versions of word, when I opened one of our lease documents, which has a text field and check box field, I  used to be able toopen the doc and edit those fields. Now with the new Word 2013, those fields are not editable unless you click "View/Edit Document". Just 2 extra steps but time consuming when you are doing 100's of leases.

Is there a way in the settings to set it so you can just edit the fields upon opening.  And not have to click "View/Edit Document".

Thank you

Directory name not valid error message

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 06:22 AM PDT

Whenever I start Word 2013 I get this message:

C:\Temp is a directory on my hard drive and I can both read and write to it.

When I start Word in Safe Mode by holding down CTRL, the error message does not appear. But when I start it normally, the error message comes back.

I have tried deleting my normal.dotx file to let Word recreate it, but that didn't get rid of the error. What else should I check to see where the error comes from?

Well I can't find this Programs and Features on the control panel............Help.

I did do a restore to previous date and that helped other problems but now this one.

Plus, when it is working it makes me save all my docs to PDF before I print, and when I want to print it keeps asking me to save as PDF when I already have, so it won't print. Suggestions?

Merging to Word2013 document with embedded spreadsheet

Posted: 26 Sep 2014 03:28 AM PDT

I am having problems when merging to a word document which has embedded spreadsheets.  This problem has arisen today previously it was working fine.

When the merge has been completed all of the mergefield codes are like this {DATE \@ "d MMM yyyy"} which reverts to the correct information when I toggle the field code.

However the document also has two embedded spreadsheets which show as { EMBED Excel.sheet.12 }.  I can open this document and edit it but cannot get it to display as a table in the word document.  Obviously a setting has changed somewhere but where?

horizontal pan when editing graphic in Word

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 05:01 PM PDT

Greetings...

Win 7, Office 365, MS Word:

Created new empty doc, creating flowchart-type graphic.

Page=letter, landscape, 1/4" margins all around.

As I add an item to the chart, then try to add/edit text, the graphic slides sideways on the screen to show the left side of the graphic.

Not the part of the graphic I'm working on, the whole other edge of the page, and I can't see the element I was adding!

Arrgh.

This is when I'm zoomed in on the graphic to where the whole page doesn't fit on the screen. Word's window does not seem to be repositioning, so I'm assuming (yeah, ****/u/me) that it's Word and not my display drivers, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Microsoft Word 2010 - Using calculations in table

Word 2010 cannot connect to Outlook 2013 address book for mail merge

I have a problem connecting from Word to the address book.

Also, after creating a quick launch icon, it is grayed out.

Adding automatic paragraph number also adds strikeout text

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 03:19 PM PDT

I have a document with multi-level lists tied to the built-in heading levels.   I am entering the text in track changes for a client.  When I enter my Heading 2 text, I turn off track changes.  However, even with track changes TURNED OFF, the document enters the previous number as strikeout text in front of the new number (in redline text)!   I tried accepting just that change, but Word ignores it (I'm in Word 2013 and "accept this change" is greyed out; "accept and move to next" just moves to the next line of text without changing anything).   How do I fix that?????

Cannot open a 97-03 Word file in Word 2010

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 03:09 PM PDT

Hello,

I have some very old files that I am now trying to open in Word 2010.  The files were created on an old computer and I had the hard drive contents transferred to this computer years ago.  The Type of file according to the list of files is Microsoft Word 97-2003 Document.  In the same folder I also have duplicates of each file with the addition of ._ at the beginning of each file.  When I double click on the file (without that addition) I get a message saying that: Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt.  I tried the Open and Repair feature and it did not work.  I also tried to open in IE and it did not work.  Please let me know how I can open these files.  Much appreciated!

If you mean that you'll be moving the user's Exchange mailbox to another

the mailbox data.

No. OST files are mirrors of a mailbox and are permenantly linked to the

Aggregating NDR's sent to multiple mailboxes

Posted: 13 Jun 2007 09:36 AM PDT

Sorry, I think my verbiage was confusing. When I wrote "undeliverables
coming from external mail servers" I was referring to the bounced NDR's that
are like a normal message. The "Mail Delivery System," "Mailer Daemon," and
"we're blocking your address as spam until you reply" type emails that hit
our inboxes.

What I got from your message is that I can grab the true NDR's by tweaking
exchange to send a copy of them to a mailbox. That's 80 - 90% of the battle
right there. To get everything else I might be able to use our anti spam
software to identify and possibly aggregate those - probably a cleaner
solution than creating and maintaining outlook rules.

put that account in the Identity page of the COM+ application, and restarted
the application; re-registered the event sink. Still, the service will not
start, and the event sink doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

Well, I've been given a simple task: to setup a mailbox that could forward
the incoming messages to an sms-gate, replacing the Subject of the messages
with a specific mobile phone number, but leaving the Body untouched; and one
such mailbox for each of our system administrators and software developers
(about 10 or so). I couldn't find a way to do that using a rule in MS
Outlook (I mean, replacing the Subject), so I thought it would be a better
idea to use server-side event sinks. But maybe Outlook can help me with my
task? Any suggestions in this direction?

Some users unable to access OWA

I wish it was that easy. It's hard to get an exact count. They have many
remote users outside the office that rely on either OWA for email or VPN
connectivity for full network access. I know of 2 users that are in the
office and atleast one outside the office. It's possible there's more, but
I'm just a consultant and work remotely as much as I can. I've got about 20
exchange servers that I manage and none of them have this issue. This server
has no history of crashing, just one day I got the complaint. A MS update
maybe? I can't even track it back to a date now.

I'm tempted to just delete the user and recreate them, but then I'd have to
deal with their profile issues because of the SID changing. I'd rather find
a server based fix if there is one.

I appreciate the replies.

Hi Pat,

Glad to know that helped and thanks for the feedback.

Each of the fields is defined pretty well in help but unfortunately, they
are not all in "one list" as they cross the three areas of tasks, resources,
and assignments.

As far as the comments about links info, cost info etc being deleted, I
believe you are correct, but if you delete a task the baseline information
for that task would be deleted as well. The summary task would still retain
the information from the deleted task unless you were to rebaseline.

I am not sure precisely what you are looking for as far as "info
retained" -- is there a specific issue you are questioning that we can help
you out with?

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

change project end date

Posted: 15 Sep 2005 01:45 PM PDT

I'm afraid editing the end date of a project is all too easy!!! I think you
urgently need to take a course in using Project or get someone onsite to
help you ASAP. The problem is we can't see what you've done. Undoubtedly
you've entered lots of dates which makes everything fixed and therefore time
consuming to edit. You need a fresh start with no dates, get all tasks
linked, resources assigned to reflect real costs and appropriate baselines
saved.

If you can tell us exactly how you fixed the end date, we can help you with
advice on how to undo what you've fixed. Trouble is that you may well have
made many edits most of which may well need undoing and links added etc.

If the contract is also time critical you need an accurate critical path to
tell you which tasks can't be slipped even a day and which ones can be.

You could send your schedule to someone on the group to review and clean up
but that is only a very partial solution as the scheduler really needs to be
at your premises talking with key managers and resources to create a
worthwhile result.

We're happy to help but from your description, if you want value from your
schedule, get onsite help so you can learn ready for the next contract.

Default filenames in Word 2013

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 01:59 PM PDT

Hi,

In previous versions of Word, when I saved a document for the first time, Word automatically created a default filename using the first few words in the document.

This is not happening in Word 2013; when I save a new document (either in Save or Save As) the document name invariably shows up as Document1 and I have to type in the name of the document. This is time-consuming and somewhat annoying. I work as a translator, and many of my document titles are long and complex. Since I can't see the document itself when the Save As window is open, I have to write down the title on a piece of paper and type it in from there. There must be a better way!

I'd appreciate any hints anyone can give me. Thanks!

I clicked the short cut and the original link for it on my homescreen, and all are saying the following, "Oops something went wrong,  Please try starting it again. " and that has gotten me here. Help would be appreciated.

Table and Figure caption numbers do not follow Chapter number

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 12:56 PM PDT

Hello All,

I have a large Word 2010 document. I have tables and figures with captions everywhere. Up to Section 4 everything is fine. In section 5, the section number is correct, but any figure I add there has a caption identical to another figure in section 4 (4.4.8-1). If I indent the Header 5 two levels so it gets the number 5.1.1, only then the figure or table caption gets the correct number (i.e. 5.1.1-1).

Please help!

Thank you.

Image "In Line with Text" Not Lining Up or Showing Up

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 10:20 AM PDT

I am having an issue with some of my Word 2010 documents. I am able to insert an image, but I am only able to see a small line of the bottom of the image. I do not have Show Image Placeholders enabled and have compared options with another document that does not have this problem. It seems that despite the fact that the image is set to wrap "In Line w/ Text" it is not lining up with the text. It is appears to be anchoring at the bottom left corner of the image instead of the top left and then hiding anything above the line it is placed on. On other documents, when I insert an image, the image "begins" at the where I insert it and then adjusts the text around it accordingly. Please help me as my co-workers and I insert images in many documents and can't figure out why this occasionally happens. I have attached a screen shot.

Thank you!

Microsoft Word 2013 continually crashes when opening document containing custom template

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 09:47 AM PDT

I am running Word 2013 (32-bit version) on a 64-bit version of Windows 7. The application always crashes when trying to open a file containing a template. This template works fine on several other machines running the same basic configuration. Below are the contents of the WINWORD.dump file:

Applying word and excel 2013 control id's through the windows registry

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 09:44 AM PDT

Hi,

I'm unable to apply custom word and excel 2013 control id's directly through the windows registry. They get applied to the correct location where existing control id's have been inputted manually but are not visible within word and excel group policies in AD. The reason why I am looking to apply these control id's is in order to not manually insert each id through group policy to disable items in the user interface. I would like to apply a few hundred in order to lock down word and excel for our restricted users. Has anyone been able to apply these through a registry key for office 2013? Alternatively does anyone know of a better way to automate this process?

PRESERVE AUTOCORRECT ENTRY IN WORD 2013 PREFORMATTING OS.

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 09:23 AM PDT

Sir / Madam,

Pl. enlighten whether AUTOCORRECT entries created in MS Word 2013 is preserved after formatting OS. If yes, then what is the location? if not, how to preserve them before formatting windows? Because it is very much tedious and time consuming to remake them.

Combo Box Content Control - when filled out, text disappears

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 09:10 AM PDT

I have a form that uses content controls. I am copying and pasting information into it from an older version. However, I am selecting a drop-down choice and typing in a combo box. After PDFing the document, the combo box text that I selected and typed disappears. Has anyone come across this in Word 2010? Very frustrating!

Content Copied from PDF Bypasses Word's Spellcheck

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 08:29 AM PDT

Hello,

I am using Office 365 University Edition on Windows 7 OS.

Within a document there was a misspelled Word that was not red underlined by Word. As I was troubleshooting with a technician we can to the conclusion that text within a Word document originated from a copy and paste from a PDF bypasses Word's spell checker since a PDF file is essentially an image of the document converted.

Additionally, if that same misspelled word was manually typed into another paragraph (still misspelled) within the same Word document, Word would not red underline that instance either. If I was to copy the misspelled word into Notepad (presumably to remove all formatting) and paste it back into the same document, Word still would not red underline the misspelled word.

However, if I was to copy that selection into notepad and then copy and paste it back into a fresh Word document, Word would function as normal and flag the misspelled Word.

It appears to me that by copying content from a PDF and pasting it into a document, the PDF content overrides the ENTIRE document's ability to accurately spellcheck.

The word in question was "workth"; a misspelling of the word "worth". Default language for my OS and for Word is set to English.

It is my hope that a solution to this is possible and viable and would be addressed in future updates or editions of Word.

Thank you.

Publishing to PDF from Word 2010 prints empty fields connected to custom properties as boxes

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 05:32 AM PDT

I have a .docx file that has many predefined custom Properties that are empty. No value at all.

All of these are displayed in Fields in the document header, footer and body.

As a Word file it looks perfect, but when i Save As... PDF, the result shows all empty custom properties as a small box, kind of like a check Box.

All other custom properties With actual values, are displayed perfectly, and if i put a space as value in the custom Properties that fails, it's working fine when i publish to PDF again. So it appears that converting to PDF can't handle emtpy values in Fields linked to a custom property. Well, wrong. Because this is a problem only some times.

Here is a link to a sample, all the boxes should not be displayed.

Anyone know why it's like this, and can offer a solution?

Error codes 30088-8 and 1058-4

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 05:11 AM PDT

My Word 2013 stopped working. I couldn't find an answer looking through these forums. Couldn't even uninstall it. Extremely exasperating!

When executing the program I received the error message 'Something went wrong'.  Gee that's a lot of help.

Well anyway, what solved my problem was to set the 'Microsoft Office ClickToRunService' service to Automatic!!!

I hope this helps some people with similar problems.

'String too long' macro error: how to implement a workaround?

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 04:57 AM PDT

Hello,

I have been creating a large number of forms in Word 2010. I'm using form fields within tables, and then applying 'Restrict Editing' to limit user interaction to 'Filling in forms'.

This works fine most of the time, but some of the forms request lists of discrete items of information (for example, the names of people working in an organisation). Since there is no way of knowing how many form fields any given user will need in order to provide this information, the form has to allow them to add rows, containing form fields, to the table.

After a lot of Googling, I found a macro that enables the user to do this in a protected form (http://www.gmayor.com/word_vba_examples_2.htm):

Sub AddRow()
'Run on exit from the last form field in
'the last row of the table
Dim oTable As Table
Dim oRng As Range
Dim oNewRow As Range
Dim oCell As Range
Dim oLastCell As Range
Dim sResult As String
Dim iRow As Long
Dim iCol As Long
Dim CurRow As Long
Dim i As Long
Dim sPassword as String
sPassword = ""
'password to protect/unprotect form
With ActiveDocument
.Unprotect Password:=sPassword
'Unprotect document
Set oTable = Selection.Tables(1)
'Select the appropriate table
iCol = oTable.Columns.Count 'Record the last column number
Set oLastCell = oTable.Cell(iRow, iCol).Range 'Record the last cell
sResult = oLastCell.FormFields(1).Result 'Get the value in the last cell
Set oRng = oTable.Rows.Last.Range
'Add the last row to a range
Set oNewRow = oTable.Rows.Last.Range 'Add the last row to another range
oNewRow.Collapse wdCollapseEnd 'Collapse the second range to the end of the table
oNewRow.FormattedText = oRng
'insert the content of the last row into the new range
'thereby adding a new row with the same content as the last row
CurRow = oTable.Rows.Count 'Determine the new last row of the table
For i = 1 To iCol 'Repeat for each column
Set oCell = oTable.Cell(CurRow, i).Range 'process each cell in the row
oCell.FormFields(1).Select 'Select the first field in the cell
With Dialogs(wdDialogFormFieldOptions) 'and name it
.Name = "Col" & i & "Row" & CurRow 'eg Col1Row2
.Execute 'apply the changes
End With
Next i
'Select the formfield in the last cell of the previous row
oLastCell.FormFields(1).Select
With Dialogs(wdDialogFormFieldOptions)
.Exit = "" 'and remove the exit macro
.Execute 'apply the changes
'but note that this clears the value from the cell
End With
oLastCell.FormFields(1).Result = sResult 'so restore the result of the cell
.Protect NoReset:=True, _
Password:=sPassword, _
Type:=wdAllowOnlyFormFields
'Reprotect the form
.FormFields("Col1Row" _
& CurRow).Select 'and select the next field to be completed
End With
End Sub

This is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I have now discovered that if the form field contains more than 256 characters (which for some of my forms it will do), the macro returns the error message 'String too long'

After some more investigation, I found that this error has long been a problem in Word VBA. The workaround most often referred to seems to be the one at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SetLongFmFldResult.htm

My problem is that I am clueless when it comes to VBA. I know just enough to install a macro and set it to execute, but that's it. Could anyone possibly tell me how to implement this workaround in the macro I'm using? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Neil

I can 'find' a space right after a paragraph break, but not 'find and replace' them! Why?

I've tried searching for ^p^w among other things - but though it is found, I can't replace with just ^p. Help!

Many thanks in advance everyone!

Crash. Dump. Burn. (When Office crashes, it leaves a dump file while deleting the original)

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 03:17 AM PDT

After installing, the most recent rounds of updates Office 2010 seem to be acting up.  Although the trigger event has yet to be identified, here is a painful symptom description.

So, while working in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., each application creates a temporary working file.  Of all the past years I have been using these applications, should an error occur the original file and the temporary file would be accessible.  However, there is a new alarming trend.  Now any Microsoft Office 2010 application, when it experiences an error or crash, has a working temporary file but now deletes the original file.

This can be more than just a little problematic, especially when working with original files and they just go poof.

PRESERVE AUTOTEXT ENTRY IN WORD 2013 PREFORMATTING OS.

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 02:15 AM PDT

Sir / Madam,

Pl. enlighten whether AUTOTEXT created in MS Word 2013 is preserved after formatting OS. If yes, then what is the location? if not, how to preserve them before formatting windows? Because it is very much tedious and time consuming to remake them.

How to see size (resolution) of images in Word 2010 doc?

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 01:16 AM PDT

I have a Word 2010 doc with images from various sources.

Some images are low resolution and need to be replaced.

Once an image is in the doc, is there a quick way to determine its resolution?

Something like properties?

I can only find formatting and positioning commands.

Thanks, this is new territory for me.

Beginning a document in Office Word 2007, I'd like to have a "3 letter ident to EVERY paragraph."

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 01:14 AM PDT

I got confused when I read all the responses on how to indent the first line of paragraphs to the same place throughout an entire doc..

Whenever I type a personal letter, or condense a document (doc) for personal use, I always type the first body-line with a 3-letter indent, like herein, (instead of the usual 5-letter indent). I've been doing it by hitting the Space Bar. I would like to have it done automatically throughout the entire document instead.

Upon starting a doc, I was hitting the Tab on the keyboard, but it indented too far (to where those little lines below the white part of the ruler are).  Most of the time, to save paper, I pull the thing which sets the margin of the paper to the left (though the white bar part of the ruler doesn't move), then moved the top little triangle ("1st line indent") to where the 3rd letter will be, and begin typing.

How can I do this automatically for the entire document?

How do I format 'columns' to make column 1 continue over the page on the left as column 1 on all subsequent pages. Needless to say, I want column 2 to continue on subsequent pages as column 2 on the right. Help, please. Regards to all. Don Purvis.

Office 2013 programs crash when following link that is redirected to other protocol

Posted: 25 Sep 2014 12:26 AM PDT

It seems like some recent update to Office 2013 causes the programs to crash with a null reference exception in mso.dll when following a link that is redirected (http response 301) to some other protocol than http/https.

For instance, if the link is redirected to about:blank, then Word, Excel and PowerPoint will crash.

We've set up a very basic test server that simply redirects to about:blank

https://www.macrobond.com/r/about.php

Add this link to a Word 2013 document and then ctrl+click to follow the link.

The same problem can be reproduced by redirecting to other protocols, such as telnet:

I have installed all updates for both Office and Windows 8.1 available until now (25 Sept 2014).

We had an older machine that was not updated with fixes from WIndows Update for several months. The links worked on that computer until we installed all updates. Unfortunately we have not been able to pinpoint what update that causes this issue.

Can you also reproduce this?

Any ideas?

How to stop Word 2010 document spreading across two monitors

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 08:52 PM PDT

I started using a second monitor two months ago so that I can go back and forth quickly between two or more Word 2010 documents. The only hiccup has been a frequent tendency for a file to suddenly and spontaneously spread across both monitors, forcing me to drag the right side back so that it is contained within one monitor. The same file will subsequently re-spread at some point (sometimes when I open a new document), forcing me to again drag back.  Is there any way to stop this happening?

Spacing between words is missing after I reopened to begin editing

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 05:27 PM PDT

Hi! I have been editing a document and opened it to finish, and the previous chapters were missing spacing in between words.  They look like spacingismissing in betweenwords. Please help. I had this once with two different versions of word. It was on my end and not on theirs.  So I had them save their docs as a 97=03 version and resend, and they disappeared. I'm thinking it's once again related?

Microsoft Word 2010 -bug in number of copies command in the Print menu

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 04:56 PM PDT

When I advise the number of copies required for printing my Microsoft Word 2010 does not recognise such and defaults all the time to a single copy.  I have to then have to go through the continuing cycle of telling it to print until I get the number of copies I need. Can I correct this bug in any way as it is at present very time consuming and somewhat annoying to keep repeating the process?

Chart Merge from Exxel

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 04:12 PM PDT

Hello All,

I am creating a merge for total compensation statements in which I have all my data in excel.  What I want to do is a merge into work that will create individual pie charts in the word that will show the % of each component.  This is based on certain data fields.  I need a different chart for each of my 800+ employees.  Is this functionality possible in Office?

Warm regards,

Windows 7 - Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable.

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 03:43 PM PDT

Hi All,

Re: Windows 7 - Office Word 2007

Need help with the error message "Word could not create the work file.  Check the temp environment variable."  The system says that I don't have access to the temp internet folder???

I tried the following from Microsoft:

Method 1

Change the location for the Temporary Internet Files folder for Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

1.In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
2.In the Internet Options dialog box, click the General tab.
3.In the Browsing history section, click Settings.
4.In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box, click Move Folder.
5.In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the following location: <Drive:>\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files.

6.Click OK to close the open dialog boxes.
7.Restart the computer.

Found no "Temporary Internet Files" folder in the above-noted location.

I also tried "regedit" fix.  The location of the folder "cache" is fine.

See fix here:   http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-word/word-could-not-create-the-work-file-check-the-temp/710178ff-d9b9-4c2a-b7d3-b95cd06e1525.

Any suggestions to fix this annoying problem.

Thanks, k
