Office 365 University suddenly is unlicensed?!

Today I tried to open microsoft Word and at the top of the screen is a red bar saying the product is unlicensed. I have Office 365 University that is active until 2017, so this should not be happening. I have ran fixit to uninstall and reinstall office on my computer, but this problem persists. I have called MS support, but after a 4 hour phone call, she was unable to solve the problem. Any ideas?

I would like to know if anyone has had any major issues with exchanging word files back and forth between Word 2010 and Word 2013 users.....specifically, style sheet compatibility issues?  I work with custom templates and when sharing with MS Word 2013 users, I am worried their built in sylesheet will clash with my custom style sheets in our standard office templates.

Hi!

I raided as many questions as I possibly could to try and fix my program, but nothing seems to directly relate to it, and I'm too nervous to try something not directly related.

I've had this program for about 2-3 years, and the problem never left. I've gotten help at the very beginning (it started to take place a month or so after I installed it), and the problem seemed to have receded... but not for long. Unfortunately, I can't contact Support because my PID number has expired. Now I've just about lost my mind.

Basically, the entire program is faulty.

Whether I open Word, Excel, etc., it lags for approximately 3-5 minutes before I can start using it (takes a while to react to me signalling it to open, the 'processing/etc.' mini-screen goes through the motions for a few minutes, and then it takes a few more to actually settle so I can use it without freezing). 

At times, every few actions results in the program (whether I'm in Word, etc.) to freeze and unfreeze; sometimes it goes so far as to freeze my laptop (HP Windows 7), whereas an emergency shutout becomes necessary.

In addition, it doesn't recognize its own documents if I try to directly open them through their own links. Instead, the documents open in WordPad. Microsoft Word isn't even an option when I try to locate it through the right-click option menu.

These are just a few of the many issues, but there really are too many to count.

Also, the first time I contacted Support I was told to disable all contact between program and Internet. However, this keeps me from being able to perform system updates.

Remove a specified number of characters from the right or left side of text

I know that in Excel you can remove a specified number of characters from the right or left side of text.  Can you do that in Word as well?  Basically, I'm editing a document that someone's manually numbered paragraphs.  Instead of manually going through them and deleting them, I'm wondering if there's a way of highlighting the paragraphs I'd like to edit and removing the first 4 characters (the two numbers, the period, and the tab) so I can then number them using the numbering tool. 

 

Is there a way?

Chapter and Page Numbering in Word 2013

Hello,
I've got a strange issue that I believe is related to conflicting multilevel lists in a large word document. Basically I have multiple chapters broken into the appropriate sections. All of my sub headings are working correctly e.g. 1.1 or 2.1. The Navigation pane shows the correct Numbering for each section e.g. 1 Title, 2 Title. However, the first page of each chapter, after chapter 1, is showing the wrong chapter number in the page number only. Where it should say 2-1 it shows 1-1. After the first page the numbering is correct e.g. 2-2, 2-3. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How do you rename custom controlled text boxes?

Hi everyone,

I really like the format of fields in cover pages because the box contains an annotation to describe the content that should go inside it (in the picture attached below, I'm referring to the box above saying 'Title').
Does anyone know how to create custom fields such as these in which I can modify the annotation (such as changing Title to something like Client Name)?

Problem with Bullets and Numbering

I select Format -> Bullets and Numbering -> Outlined Numbered and I select the 2nd to last option
I see a 'I.' But my font automatically turns itself to Arial size 16 (default is times new roman size 12) And after I type something and press Enter it does not continue any numbering it just creates a new line instead of placing the 'A.' like it's supposed to.  I tried deleting Normal.dot and also starting word with winword /a but it did not help.  Any ideas?

Distorted Flyer as Email Attachment

I created a flyer on Word.
The Flyer has an illuminated page color with a faint watermark partially on top of it and text on top of that.
I sent it as an email attachment but when someone sent it back to me for text corrections, the flyer was distorted:
  • the watermark was dark
  • the illuminated page color was gone
  • the flyer was larger than the one I originally sent.
  1. How can I make sure that when I send the flyer via email attachment, it is received the way I designed it?
  2. How can I put the flyer in the body of the email?

Copy and paste from web page into word 2010 document loses all paragraph formatting

In word 2003 when I used to copy and paste from web pages, all the paragraph formatting would be preserved.  I'm particularly thinking of quoted paragraphs which are indented, but also bold and italics.  In Word 2010, the quoted paragraphs are never indented, even when I choose "keep source formatting".  Hyperlinks are preserved, and spaces between paragraphs, but italics, bolds and underlines are hit and miss - sometimes they are preserved, sometimes not, even within the same document.  I'm wasting an enormous amount of tim re-indenting quotes into my documents... How do I preserve the original structure?

When I choose "merge formatting" it preserves italics and bold, but not indented paragraphs. 


for example if the original web page looks like this:

when I paste it into word 2010 (using "keep source formatting"), it looks like this:

How do I fix this?  Why did it used to work properly in 2003 but not 2010?

The "old story" of WORD 2010 not displaying inserted JPEGs, PNGs, etc - I had little hair to start with and I will soon have none!

I have tried virtually all the Options adjustments for WORD shown on the Microsoft site, as well as spending much time on the net looking for solutions. Also, I have also  used Regedit to amend the AllowListEnabled list of graphics filters in the Registry, and have removed the 64 bit version of OFFICE 2010 and replaced it by the 32 bit version - all to no avail because WORD will NOT display JPEGs/PNGs and so on, which it is supposed to do by default.


The same problem is happening with PowerPoint 2010 and Excel2010!

 

The machine is a Samsung NP355V5C-A03UK running WIN 7 Ultimate with SP1, and Office 2010 Professional Plus with all current MS updates installed - and I have updated the BIOS, Radeon Video drivers, and the MS s/w as recommended by the on-board Samsung support s/w.


On that subject, I also noted several Office Security Updates were identified on the net as being prime suspects for the problem, and that at least one of them should be removed - problem is that Control Panel/Programmes/MS updates is not listing them separately now, although I think they were shown somewhat earlier.

 

This has been going on for weeks and I am absolutely at my wits end with it, especially as two other ("lower spec") machines (Dell 1525 running 32 bit Win 7 Pro, and ASUS laptop running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium) running Office Home and Business 2010 have no such problems :-(  and I can open the same files on those machines and see the graphics. In fact the OFFICE PRO PLUS suite was installed on the Dell before it was moved to the Samsung and it never threw this problem.


PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, someone give me something else to try on the Samsung as this is essentially my business machine, and I am severely hampered by effectively having a useless installation of Office on it.

Word 2010 freezes

Hello everyone

About a week ago, Word started freezing upon performing some actions:

- when I try to save a document as a pdf
- when I try to print a document
- when I try to change the font

Word just freezes and eventually I just have to close it.
My temporary solution is working on another computer, but I'd rather fix this problem.

Found a few suggestions on older threads, unfortunately these do not work. ( " winword /safe " : safe version doesn't help).

Hopefully someone can help me solve this annoying problem.

Unsupported Browser when trying to embed YouTube clip in Word Office 365 Premium

Hi, I have a student subscription of Microsoft Office Home Premium 365, I have all the latest software updates for my PC, my system is more the what is required to run these services.

I get an error " Cannot run the video as your browser is unsupported" I can intercept the YouTube clip but it does not play and get the error message I have described.

When I am referred to the details page my system fulfills all the requirements, so why cant I play the video please?

I can view the clip directly from my browser but not in the Word document I have created

I can't find any details on the internet or Microsoft Support Forums.

How to use the search function for 'paragraph signs' in a text?

Hello,

Happy New Year to everyone!

I am finishing my thesis and I obviously have a lot of literature citations in the text.

Now I would like to check whether they all match and I tried writing the paragraph sign "8" like in i.e.  "...and Walzer et al. 1998.8"

in the search box but Word doesn't turn an "8" in a paragraph sign!

Hence I can't search for the paragraph signs but only for numbers in the text, which would be too time-consuming!

Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

Sharepoint Save Microsoft Document Problem on Windows 7

I am currently running Sharepoint 2010 on user machine with (Windows XP, Office 2003 and Internet Explorer 7) and the feature of SSO is fine. We can access Sharepoint and open Micorsoft document from Sharepoint without futher login.

 

Recently, we upgrade the user machine to (Windows 7, Office 2010 and Internet Explorer 9). I can open the Micorsoft document from Sharepoint without login but it will prompt the login dialog when I try to save the document.

In Word 2013, the cursor jumps all over the place - back to previous line, back a word or two, almost anywhere - making it almost impossible to type a document or an email in Outlook.  It is pure "torture" attempt to type ANYTHING.  I purchased word 2013 on Nov. 6, 2013, from Amazon and downloaded product.


Is there a solution?  Desperately need help with this problem.  While typing this short message the cursor jumped all around numerous times.

Keyboard layout prevalence

Hi y'all ! 

I've created a keyboard layout using KLC. I need the shorcuts of such layout to prevail over the shortcuts of other applications such as Microsoft Word and over the ones associated to browsers - typing in the notepad poses no problem at all, as every stroke combination works.
Can this be set in some direct way, or rather changing manually one by one ?
I am using W7, and the laptop is Acer.

I deployed a server farm (2 servers Server A and Server B, the status is healthy), through F5 (HLB), pointing to the Intranet 2 server.

questions:

1.When the first request to the serverA,Web Apps Server from a remote fetching(download) files to serverA,completed preview request. Second the same request to the serverB,Then the file again to the server from a remote fetching to serverB ? 

2.Whether the file can be shared between servers A / B ?

3.If the primary server A crash, server2 can work?




Header on page one labeled as "Odd Page Header"

I'm working on a book with a couple dozen chapters, each in their own files, each with pagination beginning with "1" (well, pagination is hyphenated, with chapter number, e.g., 8-1, 8-2, 8-3 for chapter 8).

In this chapter, I've been unable to suppress the header on the first page. yes, I've got "different first page" and "different odd & even pages" ticked in the File tab.

on the first page, at the top, the blue label at the header reads "Odd Page Header"

then, on pages 3 and 5, the blue header labels read: "First Page Header"
and the blue footer labels read: "First Page Footer"

on pages 7 et seq. and on all the even pages, the headers and footers appear appropriately.

Can someone tell me what I did to confuse MS Word to switch the first page and odd headers and footers on pages 1, 3, and 5?

check out a Slackware-based distro called "Slax".
http://slax.linux-live.org/ There are Standard, Server, "KillBill", and
"Popcorn" Editions that include X with a window manager - Popcorn
edition is small (fits on a 128MB usb flash!) and doesn't contain KDE,
defaults to Xfce (just took a quick look, not sure if fluxbox or any
other small wm would be on it without some adjustments). A "Frodo"
edition (no gui) is only 47 MB.

I just check with
system-config-securitylevel with an X Window (with ssh, we don't see SE
Linux options)
and I click on the "SELinux Tab" and uncheck "Enforcing" checkbox

Now when I enter getenforce command, I receive Permissive and my script
is working !

Well, the most obvious are:

/var/lib/rpm - The database of installed packages, certain to be

Virtually every package that needs disk space to store system-wide state
information keeps it somewhere in /var. Blindly sharing that tree among

output of '/bin/mount'. If a partition isn't mounted, it's not accessible.
If you originally had /home as a sub-directory of / and this was on the /
partition, AND all you did was to copy the "old" home to (example)
/mnt/temp.location.of.new.partition/ AND THEN edit /etc/fstab to mount
the new drive on /home then the old /home/ still exists, but is not
accessible because the 'mount' blocks access to files that _were_ in the
mountpoint before you mounted. Bottom line - old home should not even be
visible.
 

Now, here is where you may have a problem - you state above that the new
drive is (assuming minor typo) /dev/hde. That is the "fifth" drive, and
as a IDE type controller only handles four, this has to be an extra
controller. But you don't provide any details - not even mentioning the
distribution/version, or type of hardware involved.
 

What I'd do would be to use /sbin/fdisk to verify what's located where, and
compare what /etc/fstab says. Look also for any add-on commands that were
used to "manually" mount drives during the boot process, and look for any
boot commands or BIOS setups that relate to the extra disk controller.

Simply reversing the steps in the 'Hard-Disk-Upgrade" mini-howto, or
whatever you used as a guide should suffice.

GRUB Error 22 with SATA Hard Drive

upgrade fc4 to debian?

I think what I'll do is Debian on a dual-boot machine and then just
migrate the data.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a second hard drive, a full tank
of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing
sunglasses. This should be easy.

Wrong. I just tried it and I get the Error 22 right away even without
removing the drive in the rack. It seems that 2 PATA and one SATA
drive is just to much for poor old Grub, for whatever reason.
Pity. Anyone know of a bootloader that can handle this?

What Project version to upgrade to?

Adding to Jack's excellent response - not only is the dealer giving you
incorrect information, if he tries to convince you to buy the 50% more
expensive Project Professional instead of Project Standard "because it has
more features" or some such, that too would be incorrect. Unless you
specifically have Project Server installed in your network, the
functionality of the Standard and Professional versions are identical.

Don't use a date field. Use a text field.
You can have dates or numbers or whatever in a text field. Project still
recognizes them as dates or numbers or whatever.

Hi Steve,

I agree, I wouldn't be surprise to see MS stop the certication for Project
as I doubt it is one of their top money makers. I also believe that as MS has
not created a certification for MSP2003 it is a further sign they are backing
away from the MOS for Project. It would be nice if MS either confirmed or
denied the rumors.....

That being said, I was able to get to the page link I gave to Bill directly
off the Microsoft Office Specialist page under "requirements" and found the
links on the page dealing directly with MSP did work. It did take some
digging, but frankly there are few pieces of the MS site that don't ;-).

Hi Tony,

View the Schedule table applied to the task sheet to view Late Start and
Late Finish as well as Free and Total Slack. You may insert the Early Start
and Early Finish into the table if desired. (Insert>Column).

Any or all of the fields may also be inserted into any task table view.

You don't get it. If you want to enter custom information for tasks, you
must create a custom enterprise TASK field. Entering a custom enterprise
Project field is no good to you for tasks. Hope this helps.

So, if I understand what your saying is that I set an additional task, a
"ring contractor" in advance of the start of the task needing the
notification and setting the start dependency the required number of days????

Is there anyway to send an outlook task notification so that when Outlook
starts it will show a "To Do" task which is to call XXX for a start date of
YYY? Here I want the outlook to notify me or another team member not the
contractor.

recommend that you post to microsoft.public.word.newusers
including version & SR numbers (from help / about menu within word)
and any other information that could be relevant, ie have you recently
upgraded your version of word / bought a new printer / installed other
software between when Word used to print and now.

The predecessor has a one day lag????? What do you mean by that?
Predecessors don't have lag times, successors do. If the link between task
A and task B has a 1 day lag time, task B will start one day later than the
link would otherwise place it.

Steve, thanks - your expert opinion that I probably will not find any
standard templates is what I needed to know. While it is true that law firms
and cases are unique, firms have areas of specialty(or lines of business).
Within each line there is a process and a set of documentation that needs to
be generated. My initial effort relates to commercial litigation and will
involve two templates. The first template will use generic resources and
provide a prospective client a time and cost breakdown. This is an
improvement over "it could take years and cost millions". The second
template will update the generic tasks/resources with actuals and provide
firm management a tool to track large litigation efforts.

I made some changes to Microsoft word 2013 program (I forgot what), now I could not open word.   I received an error messages " Word has run into an error that preventing from working correctly.  word will be closed as a result.  Would you like us to repair now?"    I repaired Microsoft Office several times, but still got the same error message when I try to open word 2013 from Start page.    


1.  The error does not affect Microsoft Excel.   It works fine. 

2,  I found out I could run Microsoft Word 2013 as administrator.   I de-activated add-ins as other post suggested.   But it does not correct the error.


Please help.

Hello.

I recently had to send my laptop for repair to PC world (have insurance). Whilst trying to print off a word document the other day I found I was unable to perform any tasks other than to view my documents. I tried uninstalling the programme and re installing it but when I open any docs it comes up with an activation message. When I try to activate I get an error message 0x8007000D.

Does anyone know what this means and how I can get my office back to how it was?

Trying to install office 2013. The internet cut out mid-process and now when I try to continue the installation a message pops up saying that something went wrong and that "office is busy right now because your product is busy with another task".

Have tried restarting the computer and opening task manager but there doesn't seem to be any other tasks running.
How can I resolve this?

Lost Word(2013) docx file, Win 8.1

While working on this document for several hours. and manually saving it, (20x to desktop),  it now has disappeared from the  computer.  Things I have done so far:  Search This PC for the document on C:, E: and local network for:  *.docx ,  ~*.* , *.asd, *.tmp, unsaved documents, recent documents, nothing in recycle bin, etc.  The only hint of its once existence is a short cut for the file, but when I open it, Windows says it no longer exists or has been moved.  Appreciate any solutions!  tx

Every word document disappeared that was inside my dropbox folder?

I've had the most confusing thing happen. I restarted my computer a few hours ago and when I logged back in, every word document inside my dropbox folder had vanished. 

Thankfully the word documents were backed up in two other 'clouds' but it has left me a little stunned.

Does anyone have a clue how this would happen?

I have a very good understanding of computers and I only say that so that nobody recommends that I check my recycle bin. I am positive that the files are not hidden or relocated. They are simply not there. 

I have NIS for virus protection (it shows no history of a virus)
I'm running windows 8.1 on pure SSD
There hasn't been any recent modifications or program installs for over a week.

Lastly, the word documents were spread throughout many folders inside dropbox so it wasn't like a folder was deleted. It basically looks like dropbox decided that it didn't want to keep my word documents anymore and just did away with them. There is history of me accessing these files inside word, but they obviously no longer are linked to a file anymore.

Hi All,

I am wondering is there any way to re-size the columns of multiple table simultaneously?

For example, is it possible for me to adjust the first column of the 2nd to 4th tables together in a go so that they can align to the first column of the first table?

I have to drag the column borders of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th table one by one in order to adjust the width of the first column to be same as that of the 1st table.

In essence, I'd like to know is there any fast way for me to select multiple tables and adjust the formatting of them in one go, rather that selecting and adjusting them one by one?

Add non-changing date field code

For school projects, I like to use a standard word template.
I've recently stumbled upon a problem, regarding the field codes I use.
A standard date field code is located in the header, which is great as it states the date I started the project. Sadly, I found out that it also updates with every edit and reading session. Therefore, it will not display the original date the document was created on.

Is there any way to change this behavior? It is, frankly, most irritating, as it even updates when my teachers are to correct the document later on. I do, however, continue to use an automatic layout like this.

I'm working on a project and I think my nose is so stuck to the tree right now ... i lack perspective and ideas!

Here is the situation. Sales rep prepare documents that discuss clients' technology situation, and offer solutions in some form of proposal. These documents get reviewed modified and eventually become an annex to a formal contract.

Throughout the proposal, a lot of material, services and equipment is mentionned either inline with the text when its a single item (e.g. a power bar) or within matrices (since selling a server means in fact a whole bunch of components some standard some being upgrades).

There is already a document template for the bill of material. What is needed is the methodology to get the material services and upgrades from the proposal neatly listed in that BOM.

I want it to be easily updated. It will be used by the client to accept delivery and by technician to load up their trucks before service calls. 
It must also be easy for the sales rep to mark the equipment within the text of the proposal.

SOLUTIONS EXPLORED
I don't want page numbers to appear. That unfortunately eliminates the Table of Authorities which seemed the simplest way to get my 3 distinct lists. Index is also ruled out for the same reason 
\n does not seem to remove the page numbers 

Bibliography could have been an interesting option but it won't take spaces in the tag, adds ( ) and repurposing the dialog would be hazardous

End notes do not grab the text.

So that leaves me with TOC.


MY BEST IDEA (which I would not mind overthrown)

1- Use the style separator (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285059) to single out the text i want listed
2- Apply style Title7, 8 and 9 according to type of product: equipment, service or upgrade
3- Generate 3 TOC (each showing all 9 levels but in options, only title7 (or 8 or 9) has a TM order number (7,8,9) and those are identically formated.

I do not like the playing with style separator. It is not really easy to understand how it works especially within paragraphs that exist already or have bullets or special formats. I'm not sure I can control and avoid, even putting it in a proper sequence in a macro button, how the user with manage to sc*** it up.

How can I generate that TOC in the BOM template, for the right proposal?  I might use document properties to input a proposal/contract number?

office 2007/2013 header trouble

well my problem is that every time i edit one header the other also change to that one even if its a different style , i have used section breaks , broken the links , still i got jack, i tried it on my other pc same thing , and word 2013 same , i tried repairing, i re installed, talked to the techs at answerdesk still got nothing , 


anyone who can help ???
