Hello David,
thanks for your reply!

I looked into the Enterprise Manager under Support Services and there did
not appear a Service as Full Text Search.
Therefore i took a look at the installation of SQL 2000, but I can´t find an
option for installing only this service. Have you any idea, where I can do
this?

Thanks!

Delete ALL contacts?

Posted: 22 Aug 2005 01:43 PM PDT

If you have done the migration some time ago already, you might have found
some fields which you do not want to have in crm anymore. This is a good
change to reinstall the whole product and start from a clean point again.

If you want to continue working with this installation, and there are way to
many contacts to use matt's solution, then you might want to change the
deletestatecode in the database for every contact to 2. This will tell the
deletion service to delete all the contacts including their references.

Hope this helps,

Lighten up dude.

Recommended is different than required.

However, I would point out that a technology professional that does
not point their client to this recomendation for a disk configuration
is underserving that client. The ugly fact with a SBS configuration
is that because you have put ALL the apps on 1 server you are at much
greatre risk of catstrophic failure than a non SBS environment. So you
should build these additional redundancies into the systems. Else 1
failure will mean that the company may go days without access to
Accounting, CRM or LOB production apps.

So if they are down for 1 day in a 3 year period tell me how you saved
them 900 bucks by not including a disk array in the configuration. I
dont think you did.

Logon failed

There's more to deleting a user than removing the record from the table, you
also need to clear out the AD groups that the user is assigned to. Manually
changing the data as you did won't work as there are ties to the SID's from AD
in the database that you didn't change and there are security hooks that weren't
updated.

I've installed the CRM software and everything is working fine.

However, I've created a user, which I deleted afterwards (yes, I went into
the SQL database and deleted the record from systemuserbase, along with it's

I then tried creating a new entry in the webpage, with the old logon
account, the system returned "user already exists".
So, I then created the same CRM user on another active directory account,
and went into the SQL database again to set the logon account to the first
account.

When the user tries to logon, the system says that the user is deactivated
or has no license (which is not the case).

I added the original account to the corresponding MSCRM group in active
directory, but the problem remains.

My guess is that there is still a reference somewhere to the internal active
directory userID.

Is there a way to solve this or do I have to reinstall?

If you currently own CRM 1.2 or 1.0 with current software assurance, you can
get CRM 3.0 in the 4th quarter of this year. New CRM customers will be able
to get 3.0 in the 1st quarter of 2006. Of course, these dates are Microsoft

There is a new post on my blog that has details about 3.0, as well as a post
from July (I think) that has links to on-demand webcasts with detailed demos

Data Migration Framework - inactive users?

Posted: 18 Aug 2005 12:48 PM PDT

I had a project with a similar problem. What happens is that all the
activities from the history end up looking like they belonged to the
administrator, since I had to assign ownership to someone. What I did was,
during the step where I was cleaning my data before importing it, I basically
duplicated the record owner row in the source data, then merged that into the
text field of the activity body, so that at least you could tell by reading
the activity who had previously owned it. Also, I added a field to the
contacts/leads/accounts called "Original Owner" or something along those
lines, and simply migrated the old owner's name as a string into that field.
Not the best scenario, but it worked well enough. Just one more thing to add
to your data scrubbing checklist before you import.

Mail rerouting???

BobS wrote:

You need to look at the full set of headers, not just the ones Microsoft
thinks you should see. Outlook will grudgingly show them in a tiny
window if you select Options for the message.

The important ones are the various 'Received:' headers, which will show
all the legitimate mail servers which have handled the message. It
should be easy to see if your client's server is named in one of the
entries.

Note that the destination of an SMTP message is *not* shown in the
headers, unless one of the intervening servers has added an
'Envelope-To:' header, and that's normally done on delivery to a POP3
server. The 'To:' header is *not* what is used by SMTP for delivery.

As to the original problem, it's a bit difficult to see what's going on
when no NDR is produced. This is why the email RFCs require NDRs, which
make SMTP a reliable (i.e. accountable) protocol. These days, if email
disappears silently, it's usually being eaten by a spam trap somewhere.
If the sending company are keeping SMTP logs, they can confirm whether
another mail server accepted the message, and can then ask the owners of
that server what happened to it.

So far so good, you can now use the Exchange Task Wizard to Move Mailboxes
from AE to AEC. When finished follow,
http://mchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/16/431531.aspx. Turn off AE
for about one week to insure everything is working properly then you can
uninstall Exchange from the Server. No need to change the server name.

Exchange 2007 is mad at us and our "distinguishedName" generation says MSFT PSS, any way to customize it?

Posted: 29 Apr 2008 06:19 PM PDT

Sorry for the late update!

Thankfully you guys were right and my coworker had unintentially misinformed
me. It was the alias causing part of the issue because the directory sync
was originally setup using our display names to generate the alias on the
other AD system, which obviously wouldn't work as we have spaces in the
displayname.

The other part was DNs were/are getting changed after a user import causing
subequent updates to not work and it would duplicate people in the GAL of
our partners as the original user was no longer their so any import with a
change in it essentially created a whole new contact in AD. This is still
being investigated, but it looks like every forest with the problem was or
is running the Active Directory Connector.

Knowing that and reading this...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269843/en-us

[Begin Cut/Paste]
SYMPTOMS
When the Active Directory Connector (ADC) matches a Microsoft Exchange
Server 5.5 mailbox to a user account in the Microsoft Active Directory
directory service, the user account becomes a mailbox-enabled user account.
After the mailbox and user are matched, if any attribute is modified on the
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox, the ADC updates the active user. It
automatically overwrites the CN of the Active Directory user with the
Exchange Server 5.5 display name.

The CN attribute is also known as "Full Name." This attribute appears on the
General tab on the properties of a user object within the Active Directory
Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console snap-in.

[End Cut/Paste]

.... it seems like it not only applies to Exchange 5.5 mailbox, but
potentially also Mail Enabled Contacts. PSS is investigating if this is true
or not. I probably botched the explanation, but I've not been involved in
the troubleshooting so I am doing the best I can here. :)

Thanks for keeping me honest, I'm glad it wasn't what I originally thought
it to be.

To clairfy sluggishness, by this I don't mean network wise i mean when i'm
logged into the server it can be quite slow. That's because Exchange is
eating quite a bit of memory.

I did run the Exchange BPA and will do the SBS one today as well. Thanks to
the BPA for Exchange I was able to tweak the heck out of Exchange, and from
what I've seen it seems to be running a bit better now. One of the
bottlenecks was that the # of connections for SMTP in/out was set quite low
(like 20 or so) and we have 30 people connecting at any given time. So I
bumped some #'s up to the reccomended settings, and also turned off reverse
dns as that seemed to be an indicated bottleneck. So far, so good! We'll
see what the big guy says when he comes in next.

Firewall Ports Require behind firewall port

Posted: 26 Apr 2008 12:29 PM PDT

You are not understanding this fully so I will explain further, only ports
that should be open on your Firewall to your Exchange Server is port 25 and
443. VPN has nothing to do with this. If you decided to have remote VPN
Clients connect to your LAN to use Outlook then your VPN tunnel should be
passing all traffic so the clients will connect with RPC, similar to local
Outlook Clients on your LAN. If this is working properly you should be able
to ping your Exchange Server by FQDN and get a reply. As I suggested in my
last post, you can eliminate the VPN Client all together if you implement
RPC over HTTPs.

2010 Word not opening downloaded word files on Windows 8.1

Posted: 04 Jan 2015 08:08 AM PST

Hi all,

Hoping someone can shed some light on my problem, I'm out of ideas after extensive googling- no one seems to have a similar issue!

I have Windows 8.1

I installed Microsoft Office Professional 2010

I can make a word document, save it and then open it again.

I recent got emailed a word file, I went to open with Word 2010. The loading screen comes up.. 10 minutes later its still there..

I logged into another computer and opened the files easily- so I have concluded the files aren't corrupt or anything

I have tried a number of ways to open it differently in word, none have worked (by not worked I mean the loading screen comes up for word 2010 but doesn't actually open)

  • Save it to downloads folder and then open it
  • Save it to my documents then open it
  • Download it as a .zip file extract it, then open it
  • Start up word, and open the document from the File> Open Document... route.
  • Noticed they were .docx, so on another computer save them as .doc emailed them back to myself.. still didn't open
  • I have used the Office Fix it tool thing, that didn't work either

Next I was going to uninstall/reinstall, but I cant do that until I get back home this weekend..

I'm out of ideas now!

Any clues?

Thanks! :)

Margins are too large

Posted: 04 Jan 2015 07:11 AM PST

Split from this thread.

Out of nowhere, WORD will decide to dramatically increase the page margins. All of the page margins look correct (and seem to print correctly), but they are wildly problematic on the screen view (almost 20" wide). I've had this happen to me twice now. When it happens, it effects all documents currently opened. So it's not like it just changes one document, it will change any documents that are opened. The only fix I've found thus far is to close WORD, reopen it (to get a document based on the normal template), then open the problematic files, and copy and paste the material into the new file, and then "save as" over the former file. The first time this happened I figured it was a fluke, now that I've had this happen to me twice, I'm thinking something worse is going on here.

Here's a pic of what it looks like on my screen when this happens. I purposefully opened the Page Setup in this screen capture along with the page layout view to show that everything appears perfectly normal.

I have tried all of the below fixes and I am still having issues.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/invisiblegraphics.htm

Word 2010/2013
  • On the View tab of the Ribbon or on the status bar, choose Print Layout view. Wrapped graphics don't display in Draft view.

  • Go to Office Button | Word Options | Advanced: Show document content (File | Options | Advanced: Show document content in Word 2010/2013) and make sure that "Show drawings and text boxes on screen" is checked and that "Show picture placeholders" is not checked.

  • If some graphics are not printing (or not displaying in Print Preview), go to File | Options | Display: Printing options and make sure that "Print drawings created in Word" is checked.

  • On the Home tab of the Ribbon, locate the Paragraph group and click the dialog launcher arrow in the bottom right corner to open the Paragraph dialog; in that dialog, make sure that line spacing of the paragraph the picture is in is not set to an Exact value.

  • If the graphic was inserted using Page Layout | Page Background | Page Color | Fill Effects | Picture (Page Background is on the Design tab in Word 2013, it will not be displayed unless you check the box for "Show background colors and images in Print Layout view" at File | Options | Advanced: Show document content, and it it will not print unless you check the box for "Print background colors and images" at File | Options | Display: Printing options.

  • If the graphic is a "Watermark" inserted via Page Layout | Page Background in Word 2010 or Design | Page Background in Word 2013, it is a picture or WordArt object anchored to the page header and formatted as "Behind Text," so it will not be displayed unless you have "Show drawings and text boxes on screen" checked at File | Options | Advanced: Show document content, and it will not print unless you have "Print drawings created in Word" checked at File | Options | Display: Printing options.

Controlling the paragraph background colour in word

Posted: 03 Jan 2015 11:15 PM PST

Hi

I would like to use styles with background colours to make my headers.

Its easy to make a parapgraph background colour of course. But is it possible to adjust the size of the background? For example so that the background uses the entire width of the page?

In other words, in CSS terms, increase the padding of the paragraph.

I know I can do this with text boxes, but I don't know how to quickly change an entire document with headers to text boxes. Would be easy with styles.

5,000 DOC and 2,000 DOCX Files

Posted: 03 Jan 2015 06:57 PM PST

I have 5,000 DOC files and 2,000 DOCX file that were saved without the "Save Thumbnail" box checked.

Is there any way to open the 5,000 DOC files and save them as DOCX file with the "Save Thumbnail" box checked?

Likewise, is there any way to open the 2,000 DOCX files and save them with the "Save Thumbnail" box checked?

Thank you so very much!

Unreliable draw commands in Word 2013

Posted: 03 Jan 2015 04:15 PM PST

I make extensive use of the Draw commands in Word for creating electrical and mechanical drawings, as well as other types of drawings.  I recently moved from Word 2003 to Word 2013, and I am shocked at what has happened to the Draw functions.   Objects disappear when you try to move them,  objects sometimes cannot be selected, objects distort when some commands are used, etc.  As I continue drawing, I keep finding more bugs.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Extra Page at End of Each Word Document with Document Informatrion

Posted: 03 Jan 2015 03:47 PM PST

I may have caused this problem because I did attempt earlier to make changes to the normal.,dotm template.

Anyway, whenever I print a Word document I get a summary which includes the following:

Filename,

Directory,

Template,

Title,

Subject,

Author,

Keywords,

Comments,

Creation Date,

Change Number,

Last Saved on,

Last Saved by,

Total Editing Time,

Last Printed on,

As of Last Complete Printing (Number of Pages, Number of Words, Number of Characters).

Before this happened. I was trying to edit the template to show the file paths, date, last saved date in the footer.  I was unsuccessful.

You *do* have to uninstall the trial first, then clear temp files & simply
reboot, as the H&S will not simply overwrite the trial

You can keep your earlier version, which may include outlook, if you desire,
and if doing so you should modify the shortcuts, eg Word >Word03. Or you
can, in 2007, save docs in the old format
(NB H&S 2007 doesnt contain Outlook, if you use that)

Help! Using an MST file to modify installation with group policy

Posted: 10 Apr 2008 05:09 PM PDT

Hi Bob,

Thanks so much for pointing me to the correct article. Seems half the
battle, the more i do, is finding the right combo of words to search with.
Once I added the MST file to the modifications tab for the new package, it
all worked perfect.
Thank you again,

I would try uninstalling the compatibility pack, reboot, and try downloading
it again. (Don't know if that wil work but it can't hurt.)

macros in Office 2007 (and in office 2003) with self-signed certificates

Posted: 08 Apr 2008 11:17 PM PDT

Thanks. It is a great info.
How about if a department wants to use a cetificate issued by Verisign or
other vendor? As an administrator how could I distribute that certificate to
the users to use the macros with the least user interaction?
Any possible options would interest me.

Also, is there is way to avoid the import action of the digital certificate
while we are doing a rollout without using a trusted location? Is there a
good scenario for desktop rollout regarding macros that are signed in Office
2003 and will move to a new OS and Office 2007?

Office 2007 No Longer Working

I seem to have found a 'sort' of fix.

It seems that creating a brand new Windows user profile, and logging to that
reveals that Office will launch fine. Which must mean the
corrupt/failing/persistant files do indeed exist somewhere within the user
profile. The few posts online I read on this, reveal that no-one has ever
successfully 'fixed' this problem yet.

I really don't want to have to spend God knows how long bringing my new
profile back in line with my old, and I prefer a fix than a work-around any
day, so if anyone can provide a complete list of Office related files which
exist within the user profile, I would be extremely grateful.

Look at that sticker again. You'll find that's for Windows, not Office. I'd
suggest calling Gatrway and asking them where you 'll find the product key
for Office.

Office 2007 Proofing Tools

Hi K2NNJ,

If you're going into the Microsoft Office Choice in Add/Remove programs and set the French and Spanish tools to 'not available'
state then no, they shouldn't be reinstalling unless you're on a corporate setup where the configuration is predetermined by company
standards.

I have been trying to un-install the spanish and french proffing tools.
When ever I do they seem to install again when I go back into setup.

Is this normal or is there a more thorough way of doing this?

How can I remove the <OPTION> to enable password protection in Off

Posted: 04 Apr 2008 06:00 AM PDT

Thanks Bob, however, I did try the option in the OCT and it failed to
restrict that password usage. I am not able to test the use of the ADM
option as we are not setup to use policies that way.

We continue to have the need to disable the password feature. We are
preparing to push Office 2007 out and really would like to disable the
feature of password protection. I still have to time left to test any other
ideas.

Thank you,

No websites.

If you have a product key, you would need to find someone with that exact
same version of Office. If you have the key and it was for a retail copy of
Office (not OEM), Microsoft can replace your CDs for a nominal charge. If
your key is for an OEM version, you can't install it on another PC, with or
without the disks.

You should have uninstalled the trial, cleared temp files & rebooted prior
to installing Office2003.
Try

If that doesnt work, then likely you will have to restore the Laptop to
factory condition, then uninstall the trial

Switching from Office 2003 and Office 2007

Posted: 30 Mar 2008 09:09 PM PDT

I currently have installed Office components from O2k and 2003, together
with Office 2007
The MS reccommendation is to install earliest version first (Versions from
2003 install to version specific folders) update, then install later version
The shortcuts will be replaced by the later version, so you should rename
earlier shortcuts first, eg Word > Word03
Opening a file from explorer will open latest version
You can only install a single instance of Outlook
